The poem

The wet henna on my hands created a beautiful aroma and my group of girls all sat on a mattress where Shanaya's arms were being decorated.

"Wow! I just want that pattern like yours Reem." Roshni became choosy when it was her turn for the henna. "Hmm, maybe I might go for this one." She sat engrossed in a book of designs while the henna applier rolled her eyes.

"Madam, I'm getting late. I have so many others to do as well."

"Okay okay, chill dude. I'll go with this one thanks."

Suddenly, my phone rang from my pocket that dangled beside my waist.

I saw Sidd walk past me.

"Arre! Sidd wait...."

"What?" He asked me.

"Can you please take out my phone? It's here."

I displayed my wet hands to him and he smirked, trying to get as close to me as possible while trying to take the phone out.

My head jerked back slightly at his strange behavior but I was somehow liking it.

He winked and I jumped with a smile, startled.

He held the phone on my ear for a bit while I spoke.

"Hi? Oh! Sumedh? How was it dude? That's great - oh my gosh! Really? Alright then - we'll wait! Come soon!"

Sidd cut the call.

"What did he say?" Sidd asked, questioning my happiness.

"Oh - he said he'll be free to come for the next ceremony and he won't miss the wedding tomorrow."

"Wow! That's amazing."

"Erm, Sidd...." I began, taking my chance.

"You know that n......"

"Sidd Bhai! Please carry this there thanks."

Urgh - Vishal had to interrupt us just now.

He left me and the wedding atmosphere became intense. Everyone was engrossed in preparations and somehow, a fashion show was emerging out of the celebration.

"Roshni! Look - my wing is just not coming perfect!" Jannat moaned, frowning at herself in the mirror.

"Alright, just go thick on the tip then lean the eyeliner stick to an angle of 45 degrees." Roshni shouted over her shoulder, as she was busy applying make up to Shanaya Di.

"That precision though!" Abhi Dada came from behind, getting a glass of water.

"You guys look beautiful the way you are!"

Shanaya di blushed and we all bit our lips at this cute romance that was blossoming amidst our conversation.

Abhi Dada realized what he had said and he scurried off, leaving us laughing.

"He really does love you, Di...."

Shanaya di shot me a look of embarrassment.

"Alright alright - it's a joke!" I stroked her hair and went off to the kitchen.

"I'll quickly call Faisal and see if he's brought the sweets yet..." I murmured, walking hurriedly.

"Where'd my ph......" I trailed off, my eyes widening in shock.

"SIDD!" I ran down the corridor and found Vishal and Sidd taking selfies on my phone.

I snatched my phone from their hands and checked my camera roll.

"Oh wooow... what a beautiful picture!" I said in a slow, short sarcastic way.

"And oh look! Maybe we should post these on some DATING site and get you two married as well!" I said frustratingly.

"Ahahaha! You're amazing Reem!" Vishal laughed uncontrollably with Sidd and fell back.

"Hahaha funny huh? Let me just go show Jannat these....." I turned to go when Vishal caught my arm. I looked at him with a straight face.

"Chill bruh! She's only showing Jannat, not like she's a queen or anything..." Sidd winked at me.

"She is for me......" Vishal muttered something under his breath.

"What did you say?" Me and Sidd asked him at the same time.

"Oh... err nothing! I have to - to go." Vishal realized what he said and he left us.

Sidd's laugh and mine bounced off the grey plastered walls and I shook my head.

I turned to go when he caught my hand.

I stood where I was for a few minutes before turning around.

To my surprise, he had a notebook in his hand. Suddenly, I felt awkward, remembering that time when he didn't talk to me for just touching it.

He pulled me in real close and handed me the notebook.

"Huh?"

"Go ahead and read it."

I gulped and opened the page slowly.

To my horror and disappointment there was a cartoon drawing of me and everyone else.

I gasped and looked up at him with a hurt face.

He glanced at me with a cheeky look and I burst out laughing.

"Is that.... all?" I said quietly, after the laugh had died down.

Without a response, he flicked the next page of it and this time, it was something completely different.

A bunch full of words; words that probably meant the world to anyone.

As she walks, her surroundings stop to see her.
As she talks, her smile makes her seem more beautiful than ever,
How I wish I could grasp her hand,
And hold her close to say she is grand.

When her hair flutters in the cold winter breeze,
A dash of chill gives me a freeze.
The summer leaves fall gently onto her innocent head,
When her rouge-red locks reflect the sunlight.

I may say she is special, precious or a treasure.
However much I love her, she exceeds far from my expectations.
My desire to take her hand in mine and slip a ring on her finger drives me crazy every day and night.
If only she'd realize.....

Woah. A poem.

I looked up with a watery glisten in my eyes.

He was watching my face as I read through it with a hopeful smile.

"You're a poet now!" Was all I said. I was too flustered to even mention how good it was.

He took the book out of my hands gently and we stared at each other for a short time; probably for five minutes, but it felt short after it had ended.

The voice of Vibha aunty broke us out of our trance.

"GUYS! Come down! It's the wedding now!"

We blinked away awkwardly from each other and I slipped out of the door, still in surprise from what I had read.

Who could that poem be about?
