Severe drama

"What?!" Everyone sat up from their seats and all the smiles slid off worn out faces.

"Huh? That's sudden?" I walked over to Bhavesh and eyed him worryingly.

Bhavesh didn't make eye contact with me, however just shuffled his feet in embarrassment. It was obvious he hadn't thought of a good excuse.

"Mate, what's up?" Sidd thumped him on his back as he lowered his gaze from the rest of the group.

"Nothing. You know I don't have to have a reason for everything?" Bhavesh sighed.

Sidd moved away and raised his hands up in a surrendering position.

I gave him the look.

"Alright alright, chill." He rolled his eyes.

I motioned towards Bhavesh who stared at me solemnly.

"What's wrong?" Roshni stopped chewing her jalebi.

"I'll tell you what's wrong." I blurted, not breaking my eye contact from a stunned Bhavesh who looked at me in confusion yet he had a nervous urgency in his facial expressions.

"Reem, what are you talking about?" Sidd looked at me more seriously.

"Do you know what's going on?" Vishal stepped up.

"Yes, I know perfectly what's wrong." My eyes carried a pure reflection of Bhavesh's anticipating face which almost gestured me to not say anything.

Tough. I would.

"Firstly..." I spun around, facing the rest of the group.

"Bhavesh has always wanted to hold a rehearsal with Avneet for their duet and he's been urging her since so long."

I saw Avneet scrunch her eyebrows and look at me questionably.

"So? We had one today?" She asked Bhavesh.

Bhavesh didn't reply.

"Second. When you have strong feelings towards someone, seeing them with someone else is painful. It hurts your heart."

"What on earth has that got to do with anything Reem?" Faisal appeared and sneered, making the guys laugh at this cheesy statement.

I, however, remained calm and continued.

Everyone except Bhavesh giggled slightly but listened to me for fun.

"Similarly, Bhavesh's heart hurts."

"Oh, so you're saying that our innocent little Bhavesh who used to have an allergy to girls, has a crush on one?"

"Well - yes." I said bluntly, making everyone look at us in shock.

"Oh My Gosh! Who?? I need to know. I can't wait for your marriage!" Avneet squealed in delight and wrapped an arm around his shoulder.

"You."

Pin drop Silence.

Avneet's face softened and her smile slowly reduced to a look of guilt.

She slid her arm off, not breaking eye contact and she turned round in shock, quickly heading to her room.

"Av....' Bhavesh began. I stopped him.

Everyone straightened up and the usual gossiping began again.

I let go and went up to her room myself.

Now, as per my expectation - I thought she would be sitting in her room, sobbing in a pillow because of her guilt - however to my immense horror, as I turned through the door I saw an unusual sight.

Avneet was standing up by her bedside, embracing Adi.

My mouth fell in astonishment.

"Oh... hi." Avneet murmured, breaking apart from him as soon as she saw him.

I gave Adi a crooked look which compelled him to leave in confusion.

"Avneet." I sighed.

"Reem, I know why you're here. But what you want can never happen." Avneet turned away, folding her arms.

"But why? Instead of dating a guy who you don't even know that well, why can't you give your friend a chance? I can see how much sorrow he is facing for you, Avneet."

Avneet acted dumb.

"Well - no. I can't because - because he isn't rich!" She blurted out hesitantly.

My eyes widened.

"Is that what you think of him? I must say, he may not be rich but your personality makes you even poorer, I'm telling you." I raged.

Avneet shot me a look of anger.

"Fine then! If your so stressed about my life, my relations and my boyfriend - focus on your own! You needn't be so worried about me."

Avneet stormed out of the room, leaving me staring down at a photo frame of all of us on her side table.

"Reem?"

Just as I was engaged in my thoughts, a timid voice sounded behind me.

I jumped.

"Oh, it's only you." I sighed.

Bhavesh walked up towards me.

"Err, what - what happened?" He looked toward the door and back quickly.

I gazed at him miserably.

"Just what I didn't want."

Bhavesh gulped.

"Well, all that happens is for the good." He said quickly, turning to go.

"Really?" I pressurized him, making him look regretful and even more nervous.

"Bhavesh." I said annoyingly. "Why can't you just tell her the truth? I don't want to be a third wheel between you because now my relationship with her has been shattered."

Bhavesh looked at me remorsefully.

"I - I didn't mean to." He ducked his head.

"I'm - sorry." I said hesitantly. "I'm getting impatient but I hope you understand why."

"Yes. But what did Avneet say?"

"I don't think you want to know."

Bhavesh left the room in sorrow and I felt guiltiness for him prick my heart.

I really did want to help them, but Avneet was busy with Adi, Bhavesh is busy trying to find himself, forget Avneet.

He's lost. Completely lost in anxiety, depression and anticipation.

Sidd walked through the door with a worried expression plastered on his face.

"What's gotten into him?" He cringed.

"The whole Avneet thing..."

"I should have guessed."

"Well, leave it. I don't think we should interfere anyway. He's sensible enough to handle it."

I nodded.

He rested his palms on my shoulders. I felt his own broadness come closer than I expected, and I sniffed a second's duration of a perfume which attracted me.

"Uh - Sidd, I'm sorry but I'm not ready." I said quietly, pulling back my head.

"Ready for what?" He pulled himself back from me.

"Th...."

"Hey, I was just comforting you."

"I'm so sorry, I...."

"It's alright. I know how you're feeling after that argument with Avneet."

"What if she leaves Sidd?"

"She'll have a happy life with Adi then won't she?"

"But -"

"You can't force someone to like someone, Reem. Bhavesh's love is one sided, and if she doesn't reciprocate it then it will stay one sided. I guess that's life, you know."

"Not fair is it?"

"Life's not always fair, Reem." He gazed deeply and spoke in a whisper.

I gulped and pondered over his words...
