Balcony romance

As Abhi Dada and Shanaya di walked around the altar, which was glazing with fire, everyone surrounded it and tossed flower petals onto the couple. I eyed Sidd who was standing diagonally opposite to me, around his friends who were laughing and joking around.

He smiled and I showed my pair of pearly white teeth.

I blinked away and pretended to tell Tunisha something, who was next to me, when I saw Sumedh eyeing her.

"Reem darling, give everyone a ladoo from this platter and Jannat can you go around behind Reem asking whether they want a jalebi with it." Vibha Aunty handed us the trays.

I started off, with Jannat behind me as I bent down and offered everyone a ladoo. Suddenly, I felt something small hit my back.

I turned round in shock and opened the scrunched up ball of paper.
"Meet me at the balcony." Was all it said with a smiley. I looked around me and suddenly caught sight of Sidd smirking at me.

I "ohhh"ed in my head and smiled back at him.

As the celebration went on, Reem and her friends had a great time, and so did the ball of paper which was now flying around to loads of people. Sumedh picked up the paper and was meant to throw it to Tunisha, but it landed on Jannat's back instead and she looked around to see Vishal waving at her. Dear me, all this confusion!

Evening drew upon and lights from the chandeliers added a cheerful joyous atmosphere to the pre-marriage celebrations. Now we were onto games and we had certainly had a great game of musical chairs!

"Err... Roshni I'll be right back. Save my seat."

"Alright -" she laughed and continued to play charades.

I did as the note said, so I went to the balcony and waited for a short amount of time in the cold air which plucked goosebumps out onto my arms. I rubbed them and turned round to see Sidd coming towards me slowly.

"Hi."

"Hi..." I replied uncertainly.

"So... how's the wedding going?"

"Great! I guess..."

"Reem, I have something to say..."

"Go on...." I urged him.

"Well...." he took a deep breath and was just about to speak when the disturbing sound of laughter interrupted us. We turned round frustratingly.

Vishal and Jannat were holding each other's hands and they were right under the moon.

I felt a grin starting to show in the corners of my mouth and me and Sidd exchanged glances.

He gestured to keep my mouth shut. Err. Rude.

We slowly began to make our way behind them and prank them.

They were so engrossed in their little private meeting that they didn't even realize we were there.

We crept up on them real slow and "BOO" ED."

Jannat screamed and Vishal's mouth fell.

Me and Sidd fell back laughing and they just about managed to let a few bottled breaths sneak out of their dry mouths.

"Hmm.... looks like there was some meeting going on am I right?" I teased Jannat.

Jannat shook her head and looked away.

"But - what are you two doing here then?"

It was my turn to feel uncomfortable.

"Ohhh.... err - S-Sidd just err, wanted to tell me that..... um - what did you want to tell me Sidd?" I looked at Sidd for help and he didn't break eye contact while responding.

"Ahh... well yes. I wanted to say to Reem that - that, she's looking beautiful." He blurted out.

I face palmed myself in my head.

Sidd mouthed "sorry" and I chuckled.

"Guys.... where are you?" We heard a voice appear from somewhere behind and we quickly decided to hide.

I gasped at the sight of Abhi Dada and Shanaya di and my eyes widened in shock.

I felt two hands creep up on my mouth instantly and found myself crouching between Vishal and Sidd stopping me from making a noise.

"Aren't they meant to be at the wedding?!" I asked hesitantly.

"Shut up and watch." Vishal still had his hand over my mouth and eyed the couple like a predator would to it's prey.

To my surprise, Abhi Dada started shuffling his feet and Shanaya di was blushing. It was so cute!

"Oooh... hmm." Sidd softened his gaze and smirked.

I shoved their hands off my mouth and panted slightly.

We all watched each other's inclusive faces and nodded our heads like we had a plan, although we didn't.

Due to this, we all ended up creating a fail of a prank.

I stood up and just stared at them like I had seen an alien; Sidd jumped around and crouched behind the small wall again and Jannat went and hugged a very odd looking Shanaya di. Vishal was awkwardly holding a balloon which said 'happy marriage', and as soon as silence dropped onto the balcony we all stared at each other in shock.

The balloon seemed to blow out all its air and it contracted; going flat onto the floor.

We all burst into giggles at the unexpected noise it made and we came in close.

"What was all that?" Abhi Dada said, speaking through his laughter.

"Well, what were you two doing here; that too alone during your marriage?"

"Hmm..." Vishal giggled and wrapped a hand around Jannat.

He slipped it off like he slipped of his smile as soon as we all laughed at his silliness.

"Right. Let's get back otherwise mom will worry."

We all headed down towards the hall and some of the guests had gone.

"Where were you guys?" Faisal and Roshni came up to us with a bowl of Ras Malai.

I stared at it longingly.

"Go grab some before it's over!" Faisal advised.

I rushed off and found myself amidst an intensely cheesy conversation between Avneet and another youngster.

"Sooo.... how do you play?" I saw Avneet rolling her locks in her fingers seductively at the Ras Malai counter.

"Err, excuse me." I swept in between them as they parted.

She straightened up at the unexpected sight of me and I watched them both.

"When you say play, which play do you mean?" The guy smirked.

Avneet rolled her eyes at this dirty interpretation and I found myself cringing but a smile dissolving into the pink gums in my mouth.

"Everything all right?" I asked them interestingly.

"Oh yeah. We're good." The guy noticed I was now amongst them.

"Reem." I nodded and extended a hand.

He glanced at it then slid his into mine unsurely.

"Adi."

"Adi is a professional photographer here and he's graduated from Cambridge! Pretty impressive ay?" She widened her eyes at the thought.

"You're no less yourself. Oxford am I right?" I reminded her.

She ignored that and was too busy trying to make a cheesy eye contact with her soul mate.

They walked closer, almost throwing me out.

"Err, Avneet?" A small, shy voice sounded near the entrance.

Bhavesh was standing there holding a music stand and his guitar.

"Wanna practice for the reception rehearsal? It's tomorrow and you said we can do it today." He kept his hand lingering in a knocking position near the door.

She sighed and spoke quickly.

"Um.. today is a bit difficult Bhavesh. Why don't we re-schedule it for, maybe tomorrow?"
Avneet said, turning herself so she faced him.

"Oh. O - okay." A disappointment was apparent in Bhavesh's voice and he turned round to head back.

Avneet seemed to be too engrossed in Adi to realize. I watched him till he was out of sight and turned back to this forming couple.

"So Adi, my mum absolutely loves photography. It would be great if you could take loads of pictures of her, and using that excuse, you can also get to know her! You know, family friends."

My eyelids flickered at this clingy conversation and I left them, almost unnoticeably.
