I might get some backlash for this ship. But I don't give a damn. ;)

"He will cease in 16 seconds."

Nightwing was the first to understand what he meant.

And his legs immediately put him into action.

He started sprinting across the snow, his feet barely even touching the ground, and he ignored the screams of his name.

There was no way he was going to let this happen.

No one else was going to die because of him.

He simply wouldn't allow it.

And especially NOT Wally!

He was almost there now and as he got closer his awareness of the world around him started to change.

He was no longer aware of the pounding of his feet, or his gasping breath.

And he couldn't hear the Team's screams anymore either.

But he could feel the crackle of lightning as he got closer, his hair was standing on end.

He felt invigorated. It pushed him on and suddenly, time seemed to slow.

Neither Flash or Impulse had noticed him. Not yet anyways.

But Kid Flash, Wally, had.

He was nearly passed him, but his head turned and his eyes widened.

Shock or fear. Dick couldn't be sure.

Maybe both.

But Dick himself felt nothing.

In the next instant, Dick had shoved Wally out of the way, taking the lightning blast that was originally meant for Wally.

Wally was flung onto his back, knocking the wind out of him.

Dick was flung onto his side, his body was practically smoking.

Time suddenly seemed to become normal again.

Now he could feel.

He could feel the chilling snow yet he kept his eyes tight shut.

He could feel the severe burns all around his body, probably even his insides were burned.

And he knew he was bleeding.

Definitely from his nose, he could feel it.

And he could taste copper on his tongue.

A shock of residual electricity flew through his body, making him involuntarily curl into himself.

He could feel, but he couldn't hear.

At least, not very well.

He heard some muffled sounds but the majority was just a painful buzzing in his ears.

He couldn't move, not like he wanted to, but spasms were instead starting to take form across his body.

Now he heard shouting.

He wasn't sure what was being said but it was getting louder, as if the voices were getting closer.

He opened his eyes a crack in time to see a pair of yellow knees fall beside his face.

Confusion instantly took over, although he knew what he was doing in the moment, he was now dazed.

Confused and in pain.

A groan escaped his lips before he shut his eyes again.

There was a noise. A LOUD noise.

Just up ahead.

'Jet' he thought numbly.

But he didn't think on it anymore.

Because in his frazzled state, he wasn't entirely sure what that meant.

The noise stopped and soon crunching snow took it's place.

He opened his eyes again to notice a pair of black boots beside the yellow ones.

There was muffled talking before he felt a searing pain in his shoulder.

Someone, no multiple people were trying to turn him over.

He groaned again, now louder.

One pair of hands faltered before they succeeded in turning him onto his back.

As soon as his back touched snow, it was like his ears popped.

He could hear everything clearly now.

And his memory came back to him.

His eyes narrowed in pain, and now he let out a sort of growl.

Despite regaining his memory, he didn't want anyone touching him at the moment.

"Dick..."

His vision became blurry and he closed his eyes for a minute to clear his head.

When he opened them again, he was looking at his old mentor.

He was obviously in uniform but... he had his cowl off.

His face was as stoic as ever.

But his eyes told a different story. 

"His eyes are starting to glaze over..."

Bruce's eyes grazed over him before looking past his shoulder. 

"He's going into shock-- Batgirl, Robin! Get the med-kit and blanket!"

Now Wally's face came into view, his cowl was down and tears were starting to form.

"Dick... you didn't... why--"

His words were cut off as Robin ran over with the blanket and carefully wrapped him in it. 

Bruce quickly got up to aide him.

"Kid Flash, keep him focused. He's not gonna like this."

...what?

Now, Wally's face and a little sliver of sky was all he could see.

He managed a sad smile and gently set the back of his hand against Dick's cheek. 

"Does this hurt you?"

He gently caressed his cheek a little, carefully watching Dick's face for signs of pain.

'No' he mouthed.

He managed a small lopsided smile before his eyes bulged, someone was touching his legs.

His mouth opened in a silent scream.

They were only lifted for a few seconds and then set back down on something soft but the few seconds of pain...

He blacked out.

The last thing he heard was Wally's soothing voice...

"Please don't... I love you..."

When he came around, he first thing he noticed was that he was in the Batcave's med-bay.

The second thing he noticed, was Wally's tired eyes staring at him, a relieved smile was playing on his lips. He was out of uniform... in some of Dick's clothes.

He wasn't completely unscathed. There were burns and bandages on his hands and face. And who knows how many more there were across his body.

The third thing he noticed, was that Wally was firmly grasping his hand.

Dick couldn't help the weak smile that formed on his face.

"... he really let you down here?"

At that Wally chuckled and helped him sit up before promptly letting him lean against his body.

His breathing was ragged. But strong... stronger than...

He stretched out his arm and encircled Dick's body with it, holding him close.

"Didn't really seem fair that Bat's girlfriend was allowed down here and not his son's boyfriend."

Dick managed his own weak laugh.

"Alfred?"

"Alfred."

They sat in comfortable silence for a while.

"Why did you do it Dick?"

Wally's tone was now serious and as he looked down at Dick, so was his expression.

"You really scared the hell out of me... I could have taken one more--"

"We both know that's a lie Wally."

Dick turned his head to face Wally, his expression matching his.

"You were about to die--"

"You DID die Dick!"

Wally's outburst echoed around the cave, causing some startled bats to fly off.

Wally's voice lowered to a gentle murmur, his eyes gazing into Dick's.

"Your heart stopped two times. The second time we thought you weren't going to make it. You've been out for five weeks."

Dick was silent, he was stunned. He knew it was going to be bad but...

He looked away from Wally, eyes downcast.

"Uh um... s-sorry."

Wally's arms tightened around him and a hand reached up to cup his cheek.

He gently turned his head back around to face him.

"Dick, I'm sorry. I'm not angry or anything I'm just..."

He sighed through his nose.

"I lost you. And right after I almost lost you again... each time I held you in my arms and pleaded with you to stay with me. I stayed beside you the whole time because I was terrified something would happen if I left. I just--"

He broke, tears fell from his face unchecked, small sobbing sounds coming from his throat.

He kissed Dick's head gently before nuzzling into his hair.

"I just love you so damn much, Dick. I don't think... I could live without you. The Invasion was bad enough just... don't leave me again, okay?"

Dick was silent the whole time, listening to him spill his heart out.

When he knew he was done he lifted his head up and grabbed Wally's face with both of his scarred hands.

He looked into his eyes for a moment before pulling him down into a kiss.

Wally's lips froze against Dick's for a moment before moving with him, in sync.

They haven't been able to be like this since before... well before this whole mess started in the first place.

Dick pulled back just enough to laugh softly and whisper in his ear:

"I love you, you idiot, I'm not going anywhere."

And with that, he pulled him into another kiss.

Sooo, a couple of things.

This is NOT how this little book was going to be. First part is the original but after that...

I started dreaming a bit.

Secondly... this was my first time going full on into a ship.

And I've barely ever addressed Birdflash except in a little 'experiment'

And... damn did I love writing about them.

With all that being said...
