School

Right, so one thing about my school. The dress code includes no weirdly colored hair, except when it comes to me. Cause my pink hair is genetic, and can't be helped. A lot of new kids have issues with it.

I would think they would.

Yeah, well, pink hair can't be helped in my family. Most kids give up and just accept the fact that my hair doesn't usually change.

Continue, if you'd please.

I ran up to the school, breathing hard. Raven and Exodus were waiting for me, along with a new kid. I could tell it was a new kid, cause they were staring at the section of my hair that was pink.

"There you are, we were worried you'd be late," Raven scolded.

"Sorry?" I said, shrugging. "Who's the new kid?"

Exodus glanced at her. "Um, I think we forgot to ask your name."

"You think?" She replied skeptically. "My name's Kelsana."

"I'm Raven, and we really ought to get inside." Raven turned around, marching inside.

"Exodus," he said, following her.

"Sabanthia, nice to meet you," I said in my turn, following my friends, Kelsana close behind.

"Why do you have pink hair? It's against the school dress code." Kelsana asked, following me through the crowded halls.

"If I told you why I had pink hair, you wouldn't believe me," I replied simply, turning into my homeroom.

"Seriously," Raven added. "Don't ask."

Kelsana regarded us with an irritated expression. "I want to know."

I raised my arms, sitting down in the seat I'd sat in last year. "Fine, if you insist. The pink hair is genetic. All the females in my family have it."

Kelsana made a hard to read face, and left, drifting over to the more popular crowd.

"I don't think she believed you," Exodus noted.

"Yeah, I think you're right," I agreed. Exodus and Raven sat down on either side of me, setting their backpacks on the floor. "Oh, my mom says to bring you over after school. If your parents are fine with it."

Raven nodded. "It's fine, my parents are going on a date, so, I'm casually invited to stay over at your house while they're gone."

Exodus grinned. "Fine by me. Mom and Dad barely notice that I'm gone, as long as I'm back for dinner."

Nice how your parents trust you so much.

Well, we're not exactly social outside of the three of us, so our parents have a general idea of where we are when we aren't home. Which consists of with another's parents.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. Besides, they can always call you to find out who's house you're at.

"That's good," I replied, glancing at the teacher, who had her attendance sheet out.

The teacher called roll, with the new kids glancing curiously at Raven when her name was called.

What's her full name?

As called in roll, Ravenna Le Fay. It's the Le Fay bit that startles people. Cause that's not exactly a common last name. Well, I mean, it's more common in my world, but still.

I glanced at the clock, then at the screen, where the teacher was going over what we were doing that year. Deciding nothing interesting was going to happen, I decided to ask Chihre about Raven and Exodus. 'Chihre, what did my mom mean about Raven and Exodus?'

And during school too, I like you.

'Um, thanks? Answer the question if you don't mind.'

Right. Raven's last name is signaling of her rather distant relation to Morgan Le Fay.

'Like the old myth?'

Yes, but they are not myths. They were real people. Your friend is a very distant relative and does not have the magic that the much closer relatives of Morgan have.

'Magic?'

Yes, Morgan Le Fay is from Camelot, and all people from Camelot have an ability to gather magic from the air, then channel it into spells.

'And Exodus?'

He is from a family with the genetic potential to be able to split compounds into their individual elements and build them back up again. He does not have the ability, because he is not a twin. Fortunately for his mother. Twins born with the ability are always born at midnight and noon. 12 hours apart.

'Ouch for the mother, I'd hate having to be in labor for that long.'

Well, their women are sturdy, probably a good thing. Exodus has two cousins with that ability, Midnight and Daylight.

'I think I can guess who was born when,' I remarked dryly.

Yep. Middy can split compounds apart, Day puts them back together. Eclipse remembers the compounds so Day can make them.

'How do you know all of this?'

Jierhe. We can communicate, you know.

'Makes sense I suppose.'

"Sabanthia, come on, class ended," Exodus said, touching my arm.

I started, looking at him. "Oh, right, sorry." I got up, grabbing my backpack and following him out.

"You really zoned out there," Exodus noted, dodging students as we walked down the hall.

"Yeah, just, thinking."

"Doing an awful lot of it, apparently. By the way, what happened to your face?"

I blushed slightly. "Explain later, officially, I fell off my bed and cut my head open. Oops."

Exodus grinned. "Oops is right, seriously, falling off your bed and cutting your head open? That's quite the cut."

I shrugged. "I know, I saw it in the mirror."

"Is your hair getting more pink, or is it just me?" Raven asked, coming up behind me.

I jumped, spinning around best I could in the crowded hallway. "I dunno, is it? It's just first period."

Um, Hydroxa? You have a nosebleed. We might want to get some tissues and deal with that before we continue.

Huh? Oh, you're right, turning it off now.
