Undaunted

"And we were dancing to 'Buddy Holly and the Crickets,'" Anastasiya explained, trying to convince Elena about the mystery man of her dreams and how he was real. She had talked about him since they arrived to set up, Elena barely getting a word in edgewise about this mystery man. Both girls wondered who he was. Although Anastasiya knew him and his personality, she couldn't recall his voice or name, which left Elena in the dark, a dim flashlight in hand.

"And it was the 50's?" Elena questioned wearily, taking a sip of lemonade while looking around for her blonde vampire friend, Caroline Forbes. The brunette tried her best to be interested and supportive, but so much was running through her mind and it became hard to keep up.

"And it was the 50's! Elena-" she turned her brunette friend toward her by the shoulders, "-believe me when I say that I've never met that man in my life, but I feel like I know everything about him." The look Anastasiya gave her reminded Elena of the way Stefan stared into her eyes when he needed her to know that everything will be alright. A mixture of adoration, urgency, and truth with a splash of fear of the unknown swirled in their green eyes. A flicker of hope in the midst of wonder and fright.

"I believe you," Elena sighed out, placing the lemonade down, "I just don't believe that he's real and it's true. You know we can't make up people in our dreams, right? They're made up of faces we've seen before, even strangers' faces." Anastasiya groaned, rolling her head back for dramatic effect.

"I knew what it felt like to hold his hand," she reasoned, trying desperately to convince Elena, "he was there, Elena, he made me so happy and his smile, it was beautiful and mischievous. He had this look in his eyes that said, 'I'd kill for you.' I know it doesn't sound that romantic, but I could feel that he meant it and he cared so much." Remembering the dream left Anastasiya in a bubbly haze. One that would let doves fly through her as if a magician had let them all go at once.

"Do you even know his name?" Elena countered, raising an eyebrow as her friend frowned.

"Know who's name?" another blonde asked, popping up beside the two girls and beaming cheerfully. She wanted to include herself in the boy conversation she had heard from a mile away.

"Hey, Caroline. We were just talking about Ana's dream guy," the brunette joked, watching as the blonde vampire furrowed her eyebrows.

"Elena," Anastasiya scolded, lightly hitting the mentioned girl's arm.

"Who is it? Do I know him?" Caroline gasped, thinking she had solved the mystery, "Is it Tyler? No, Is it Damon? Please say it's not Damon bec-"

"Caroline," Anastasiya's calm demeanor made Caroline stop and eagerly listen, "It's neither, stop worrying."

"Please tell me who it is!" the blonde vampire pleaded, tugging lightly on Anastasiya's wrist.

Elena shook her head with a small frown, "I don't even know who this guy is."

"It's Mason Lockwood." Caroline could tell she was lying from her heartbeat, but let it go. Anastasiya started to walk backwards away from the two, throwing up her arms and exclaiming, "My dream guy is Mason Lockwood! Now, hop off my di-" Back collided with tree, causing Anastasiya to grunt. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. She knew there were no trees here, this was too soft to be a tree and too hard to be a bear, but- Anastasiya quickly spun herself around to see a cheekily smiling man. Sun shone through his light brown, curly hair and his teeth were as white as paper.

"Mason!" the platinum blonde clapped her hands together and pulled her best Joey Tribbiani impression, "How ya doin'?"

Mason laughed and shook his head, responding with a lighthearted, "Dream man, huh?"

Anastasiya waved her finger slyly at him, "Actually, I said 'dream guy.'" She patted his chest with her hand and, her mouth pressed in a straight line, said, "Don't flatter yourself too much, we don't need your head to pop," and walked away.

"What're we looking at," Anastasiya questioned, stepping beside Damon on the right and looking at Caroline to his left.

"Stefan and Elena," Caroline said bluntly, obviously annoyed by something Damon had said before the girl joined them. Anastasiya nodded and then looked toward the couple not far off, watching as they conversed, both looking quite ticked.

"Damn," Anastasiya complained, "I wish I had super hearing or that they were speaking sign language. What're they saying?" She cocked her head at the more experienced vampire, who looking on as if she wasn't there. "Actually, don't tell me, I can read lips. Stefan just said-" Anastasiya cleared her throat and put on a Stefan impression "'-No, I'm staying up in the mountains.' Why would-" The rest of her words were muffled by Damon's large hand. She glared up at him as he smiled sarcastically and tapped his left ear.

"Relationships are about communication," Damon told Caroline just as Stefan and Elena stopped talking, keeping Anastasiya in the dust. He turned and whispered, "They broke up," to the platinum blonde, widening his eyes in fake shock only for a second. Damon winked as he walked away.

"Damon's a creep," Anastasiya muttered to Caroline, knowing the Salvatore would hear her comment and, hopefully, laugh or smile. Before Caroline had the chance to respond, the platinum blonde exclaimed, "E...lena!" The brunette tried to smile, but it didn't really show up on her face.

"You okay?" Caroline questioned, glaring at the over-cheery blonde next to her. The blonde vampire loved to be cheery, hell, she claimed the title of 'Captain of the Cheer Team' but she knew her boundaries. Anastasiya did not, she was always putting up a good front as long as she has the strength to. Caroline both admired and despised her for it.

"No," Elena admitted, "Can we go back to the 'Mason is Ana's dream guy topic?'"

"You know," Caroline went on, ignoring the comment, "maybe it's for the best." Anastasiya nodded in agreement, smiling with her eyes as the other blonde looked softly at Elena.

Elena snapped harshly at the girl, "It's not for the best, Caroline. None of this is for the best!" she stopped, caught herself, and apologized all too quickly for the vampire to comprehend, "I'm sorry, okay? I...I don't mean to take it out on you. You're just being a good friend."

"No, I'm not," Caroline argued, "I'm not being a good friend at all."

"Uh," Anastasiya nodded her head toward Sheriff Forbes, who was talking on the phone urgently, "is she leaving?" Her brows knitted as she watched Caroline's mom walk further away from the crowd.

"Where is my mom going?" Caroline questioned in aggravation, trying to listen in on the call. The blonde vampire stepped away from the two girls and toward her mother, leaving Elena and Anastasiya to sit and wonder. They waited until Sheriff Forbes left to reunite with Caroline.

"What's going on?" Anastasiya questioned with a look of concern toward Caroline.

"I don't know," the blonde sighed, "Somethings up." Caroline started to walk away, causing the two girls to share one another a strange glance and follow their friend.

"Where are you going? What's going on?" Elena questioned frantically, following the blonde vampire towards the woods.

"I need to be able to hear better," Caroline explained, looked back at Elena.

"Hear what?" Elena questioned like a lost puppy.

"Don't be dense, Elena," Anastasiya suggested, "She said something was wrong, let her figure it out." Although the platinum blonde loved Elena like any best friend should, she could get tired of the girl's illogical mind at times.

"Caroline-"

"Shh!" It was then, when Elena stopped talking. After another moment of waiting for the two humans, Caroline whispered, "Oh, my god."

"What is it?" Elena inquired, looking in the direction Caroline was looking. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

"Stefan and Damon..."

"Are they okay?" Anastasiya quizzed next, having enough of the slow responses from Caroline as well.

Caroline took off at a sprint, ignoring the question. Anastasiya's athletic mind kicked in as she jumped to follow quickly behind Caroline. Elena followed suit, hoping her boyfriend and his brother were okay.

"What is it?" Elena questioned Caroline in frustration.

"They've been here," Caroline stopped, looked around and sniffed. She walked a few steps to the left and bent down to a plant, pointing.

"Oh..." Anastasiya whispered out, hoping the Salvatore brothers weren't dead. A single drop of fresh blood stained the green leaf. The platinum blonde and light blonde vampire shared brooding looks, both questioning the other of who's blood it was.

"What?" Elena asked, not getting what Caroline was putting down. Leaves and branches crunched behind them. The three sharply turned to see Mason Lockwood, Caroline and Anastasiya standing tall at the sight of him.

"What are you three doing out here?" he questioned, walking slowly closer to them as if he were afraid they'd pounce for fear of being cornered. Mason wasn't afraid, no, but he knew what Caroline was and what her kind could do to his. He had learned many useful things from Katherine.

"Have you seen Stefan?" Elena questioned like an overconfident chihuahua in front of a pack of wolves.

"Elena, you idiot!" Anastasiya whisper-exclaimed, hitting Elena lightly over the head, earning a glare.

"Yeah, Elena, I've seen him. Seen Damon, too," he answered, his words careful and full of distrust, eyeing the three cautiously.

"'saw Damon' not 'see-"

"Where are they?" the brunette asked urgently, cutting off Anastasiya and holding her arm out so she wouldn't pounce on Mason.

"You don't need me for that," he scoffed in disgust, "I'll let your friend here sniff him out." He looked over at Caroline and inquired, "Does your mother know what you are? I'm happy to tell her." Mason had said all this, creeping slowly closer.

"This isn't a coming out party, Mason, get lost," demanded Anastasiya as she stepped closer to him, unafraid of what he might do. She knew what he was, and yet she felt as if this was nothing compared to what cards she'd been dealt before. Caroline charged towards him, but stopped when Mason grabbed Elena, holding his arm around her neck.

"Don't be stupid! Necks snap easy around here!" Mason snarled, watching both girls back up and widen their eyes, fixing them on Elena. Anastasiya glanced at Mason's tightening grip around Elena's next. It was as if his muscles were the body of a boa constrictor, slowly cutting off what little air Elena could grabs in her fearful haze.

"I can take you," Caroline informed, squinting her eyes at the wolf. He smirked, challenging the girl with his free hand.

"And I'll assist," Anastasiya added, pulling a pocket knife from her jeans and clicking it open. She wasn't one to be violent, but ever since leaning about vampires and wolves, she kept herself safe. A pocket knife stashed into her clothes and vervain in her anklet.

"Wanna bet?" Mason dared, raising an eyebrow at the two.

"Yeah," Caroline smirked over at Anastasiya, "We do." The blonde vampire super sped toward Mason, shoved Elena into Anastasiya's arms, and pushed the werewolf into a tree. After Elena was steadied on her feet, the platinum blonde ran up to Mason and put the knife through his hand causing him to yell in pain.

"Told you," Caroline smirked, kneeing Mason in the crotch and dropping him to the ground. She kicked him with so much force that he flew into another tree and groaned as he fell to the ground.

"Come on."

Anastasiya, without hesitation, traveled down into the cellar as Caroline protested and argued with Elena. She made no sound behind the wall as she listened to Sheriff Forbes talk about her plan to kill the Salvatores at her feet. The platinum blonde didn't know why she felt so fearless and brave all of a sudden, but she had. She felt like there were scarier moments in her life than potentially dying in this one.

Elena joined her behind the wall, accidentally kicking a rock. Anastasiya groaned quietly and glared at Elena, hearing Sherriff Forbes demand for a deputy to check out the noise. Anastasiya readied her knife while Elena frowned and grabbed the wooden plank nearby. Quickly, Elena swing the board at the officer's head and knocked him out. The platinum blonde ran up next to her friend, still pointing her knife out for safety precautions. Sheriff Forbes had her gun pointed at the two as they  came into view.

"Elena! Anastasiya! What are you doing?" Sheriff Forbes exclaims, lowering her gun slightly. She wasn't sure if the girls that had grown up with her daughter became what the Salvatore's were, and she was terrified of finding out.

"You can't kill them, I'm not gonna let you!" Elena announced, glaring at Caroline's mom. The deputy from earlier snuck up behind the pair, Anastasiya pouncing to turn around and pointing her knife at him as he weny to nudge Elena forward. The platinum blonde stepped fully behind Elena as the deputy pointed his gun at her.

Slyly, she smirked, "You have to keep all eyes open, Deputy, never turn your back on danger." The deputy turned around just as the cellar gate slammed shut. "I meant me," Anastasiya concluded, pushing the deputy into the concrete wall and knocking him out for good.

"Who else is with you?" Sheriff Forbes wondered urgently, staring at the bleeding deputy. A gust of wind swept around the three humans and then it stopped just as Caroline Forbes bit into the other deputy's neck.

"Hi mom..." Caroline greeted, dropping the deputy and smiling at her horrified mother, blood covering her face. Liz Forbes was raised that vampires were emotionless blood suckers and needed to be killed on sight and seeing her daughter in such a way disgusted and pained her. She scrunched her nose and stepped back from Caroline, keeping a hand on her gun.

"Nice entrance, Care," Anastasiya complemented, not at all phased by the dead body. She started to question her sanity or will to live, why did she have no fear nor remorse? Why did she feel like this wasn't anything new?

Sheriff Forbes stood in shock and utter disappointment, she thought her daughter was better than this.

~

"Who knew you could dress down for some fun?" Anastasiya asked rhetorically, smiling at the vampire in front of her. He was wearing a simple white t-shirt, black leather jacket, jeans with rolled up bottoms, and black patten leather shoes. His curly hair was greased and thrown about as if he had no care in the world, but it was all fashion of the time.

He chuckled at her and countered, "Did you think I only owned suits? Besides, look at you and your black pants. Who knew you wore pants?"

"Did you think I only owned skirts?" she joked, pulling him out onto the dance floor as 'Blue Suede Shoes' started up. Anastasiya smiled as she danced with the man who made her heart go wild. He smiled, too, loving the way she could effortlessly make him happy. They danced the night away at the night club, drinking and laughing.

Anastasiya woke up and looked around the pitch black room, she wished it wasn't all a dream. The memory was still fresh in her mind, and she wished to relive it again and again. She felt as if the dreams and memories she had were more calming than her life of witches, vampires, and werewolves, but something in the back of her mind pushed the thought away and willed her back to sleep.
