It's a very long intense night, every sound, every beep of the machines rings loudly in the boys ears. They don't want to sleep just in case, they end up tag teaming. It's hell, the pit in their stomach is heavy and they just need Louis to be okay.

Louis thankfully survives the night, Andy says it's a step in the right direction, the boys just need Louis to open his eyes or for Andy to tell them he will be okay, but he can't he just can't promise that yet.

James, the head of headquarters turns up on day two. He's known Harry and Scott for years, they are good friends and when he walks in and sees the boys so broken his heart sinks

"Any news?" James asks as they all hug hello

"No, he's fighting but that's as much as we know right now" Harry says sadly

"Louis won't leave you. He always does things in his own time, and his own way, just remember that" James says and the boys smile slightly, that's so Louis.

"What's the update on Liam and Jax?" Scott asks. He hopes someone secretly poisoned them in the night.

"Let's sit down hey" James says and they do

James looks towards the boys and sighs, he wanted to be the one to talk to them about everything, it's best coming from him

"Forensics just finished with Louis vest this morning, it was tampered with" James starts

The boys feel so many emotions but they don't know how to express them

"Was it Liam?" Scott asks, holding his anger at bay

"It was, he admitted to replacing the insides of the vest with paper weights" James says carefully

"Fuck, let me get my hands on him James, let me take care of him please" Harry says and he's serious, he wants to kill Liam so badly.

"Harry, as much as I would love to allow that, you know I can't" James says

"Do we even know why? Why did they go to so much fucking trouble to try to kill off Louis?" Scott asks and he's at breaking point

"Listen, Liam and Jax have both cooperated fully, they've plead guilty to attempted murder to downgrade their prison time. They are both on the force they will be protected by their badges but we will do our best to make sure they get the book thrown at them" James says

"This can't be happening" Harry says as he runs his hands over his face

"So what happened J? Tell us" Scott says

"Liam got his family caught up in Stanley's gang, he's been wrapped up in a drug ring for the last 18 months. He thought If he gave Stanley what they wanted, they would leave him and his family alone. Liam outed Louis as undercover before the first raid. Liam thought that if he gave them Louis and helped them avoid arrest, they would give him his freedom. It worked, but they said that Liam had to be the one to pull the trigger. Liam fucked up when he only grazed Louis shoulder with that Bullet, Stanly then came down hard on Liam and they told him if he didn't complete his end of the deal his wife would be next, Liam orchestrated the car crash, Liam organised the hit on Louis at the hotel and Liam set up yesterday's raid in the hopes to finish the job. Jax was working for Stanly the whole time, he's been a corrupt cop for years apparently and was brought in to keep Liam in line" James explains

"This is fucked up, how could they do that" Harry says shaking his head

"We knew something was going on, we were working on bringing Liam and Jax down, we just weren't quick enough" Scott says

"Boys, to think that one of your own could do this is one thing, but to act on it is a completely different story. No one wants to belive that there's a corrupt cop among us. It's not your fault" James says

They sit in silence just taking everything in.

"I've organised you both to take three months off, paid of course, and Louis job is safe when he decides to come back" James explains

"Thanks J" Harry says

"Louis doesn't want to go back, he was supposed to resign yesterday" Scott says

James sighs, he definitely doesn't want to see Louis go, he's too talented and a brilliant detective

"Well, he can go anywhere he wants, SWAT, the dogs, anywhere, I'll make a spot for him, if he wants too" James says

The boys nod in thanks

"I have to head off but keep me updated on Louis. Make sure you eat and sleep, you're no good to Louis if you're not looking after yourselves" James says

The boys smile slightly at Jame's over protectiveness. He's been like a father figure to both boys for as long as they can remember and they appreciate him so much.

When James is gone the boys just sit in each other's arms, wondering how on earth all this happened. All they know is that they will not let Louis out of their sight and they will protect him from everything forever.
