02 - GRIEF

Traveling with Scrapper 142, Aurora wasn't sure as to just how much she could trust this drunkard of a woman. They traveled together for what seemed to be weeks, which Aurora found odd how quickly time passed on this trash planet. Yes, of all the places someone like Aurora could possibly land, it was a planet formed by trash and scavengers. Of course, being the physical being of all things good in the universe, this put quite a dampener on her mood. The only good on this planet was the capital because of the rich, but even Aurora knew the rich were no good. The Scrapper had explained to her the contest of champions and how, similar to the days of the Roman Empire, champions fought for the entertainment of the Grandmaster. Aurora had yet to meet the man, however, because findings were slim and Scrapper 142 was growing anxious with her lack of ability to find a champion for the Grandmaster.

"Why do you do this?" Aurora asked as they were flying her ship on the hunt for anything living, "Hunt for champions and other things you can sell to him?"

Scrapper simply shrugged, "I need the money."

"To fund your alcoholism? Seems unnecessary," the being scoffed, twirling a lock of her light hair absentmindedly as she spoke. She had lost her godly shimmer, at least, it had dimmed greatly. Aurora knew this planet was having a terrible effect on her, but a sinking feeling told her that her human form, in general, had something to do with it as well.

The woman rolled her eyes and lifted a bottle to her lips, "It doesn't count if it's a coping mechanism."

"For what exactly?"

Meeting her eyes, Aurora could practically feel a shiver go down her spine. In that one look, Aurora could see those eyes had seen too much in her days. With one word, the hairs on the back of Aurora's neck stood on end. "Grief."

As the woman turned back to face the terrain, Aurora shifted uncomfortably in her seat and refrained from saying anything else. Maybe she had underestimated the woman next to her, but still, alcohol wasn't healthy in a state of grief. It wasn't healthy in general. Aurora could tell this simply by the effect it had on the woman next to her. It was easy to see how destroyed she was internally.

"What's that?" the woman asked as their eyes landed on a group of scavengers, crowing around and attempting to capture something, or, someone. Sure enough, in the middle of the crowd attempting to defend himself, was Thor.

"Holy shit," Aurora mumbled. She doesn't think she had ever muttered a curse word in millions of years of existence, but the moment called for it. Rising up out of her seat she pointed to him, "I know him. Get him out of there, please, I need to speak with him. His whole realm is in danger he cannot die here."

Scrapper 142 furrowed her brow, but something in her trusted Aurora's urgency as she landed the ship and opened the door. Looking at the blonde woman she rested her hand on the other's as if motioning for her to stay put. It caused goosebumps to rise on Aurora's skin, something she had never seen before. She would say she was getting used to the ordeals of being human, but that was a bald-faced lie if she's ever heard one.

"Stay here," the woman instructed as she stood, the bottle still in hand, and walked through the opening of the ship. She watched as the woman stumbled and fell off the runway of her ship. Hiding a laugh, Aurora covered her mouth so no one outside would hear her. Hearing the woman speak once she regained her balance, Aurora grew increasingly nervous, "He's mine. You want him, you go through me."

She could not hear what the scavengers said, but directly ignoring the woman's instruction, she rose from her chair and crept over to the entrance of the ship. Who knows, maybe the scrapper would require backup. Well, she deemed this unlikely once the woman activated the guns on the ship.

"Well, then I guess I go through you," the woman remarked before the recognizable sound of gunfire reigned throughout the terrain, taking out most, if not all, of the scavengers yet somehow leaving their victim unharmed. As soon as they were all dead or ran, Aurora walked up and stood behind the woman.

"Thor, thank God you're all right!" Aurora exclaimed and she began to run to the man before the woman held her back. She tossed something that latched itself onto Thor and lifted a remote. She gasped as an electric shock went through Thor and he tumbled onto the ground. "Hey! Why'd you do that?"

Scrapper 142 shrugged, looking nonchalant and grabbed the man by his torn cape with no hesitation. "He's a champion. Finally, something good to bring to the Grandmaster. You want your friend? Get back on the ship and don't question me or I can leave you here for the scavengers to eat."

"Oh, you severely underestimate me," Aurora seethed as she followed the woman back onto the ship. Of course, she would rather get the hell out of there, but she couldn't abandon Thor. The man was no unconscious and she could see his eyes opening and closing as he faded from the electric shock. "I demand you let him go immediately."

"Sorry, princess, no can do," the woman laughed as she locked the man underneath the drivers' seat where there was a small storage area. "Off to the capital, you with me or am I losing a passenger?"

Aurora crossed her arms and did her best to look threatening, "You are despicable! I won't abandon my friend even if he is in the position of a heathen!"

"You're a feisty one, princess," she remarked with a scoff as she settled in and launched the ship into motion.

"My name is Aurora and I am no princess," she corrected with a matter-of-fact tone as she reluctantly sat down to avoid toppling over with the movement of the ship. "I am all-powerful, virtually indestructible being so I think you should be a little nicer to me."

"You're a walking stun gun."

Aurora took offense to this and huffed, doing her best to think of a hard-hitting retort but nothing was coming to mind. Groaning, she settled for direct insults as her cleverness was abandoning her at the moment, "You are evil. No wonder you're nothing but a grimy scrapper. I'm no princess, I'm simply a decent being. Something you might like to take notes on."

The woman simply laughed despicably as she began to start up the ship, smiling and shaking her head as she looked over at the blond fuming in the seat next to her. Aurora was so angry she could feel herself beginning to seeth and glow again. Strands of hair lifted as her golden aura surrounded her in a surge of power for just a moment. "You don't even know how to control yourself so do not talk to me about taking notes. What even are you?"

"Everything you're not," Aurora scoffed, "I embody good, everything blessed and beautiful in this world."

"So that explains how pretty you are." The comment stunned Aurora. Her jaw opened as though she were going to say something in response, but her words faltered and nothing made it past her lips. It was unexpected and threw her off. One does not expect a compliment in the midst of biting remarks and vile tones. When Aurora decided to stay silent, the woman next to her smiled as she drove and raised a bottle to her lips. "So, now I know how to shut you up. Noted."
