01 - GRUDGES
Even in the stars, Aurora remembered Thor, the man of thunder and lightning. It wasn't every day one met a god. Years had passed in the blink of an eye and she found herself wondering what the immortal being was up to. Being up in the stars became miserable as she watched her earth began to die. The worst part was being out of control, there was nothing to fight except for what humans had created. She could only dream of other places.
She was waking up from her starlight slumber when she could have sworn she heard her name echoing through the stars.
"Aurora! I could really use your help! Please tell me you're up there!" a familiar voice screamed. She didn't exactly have a direct line of communication to Earth, so for someone to communicate with her it had to be a man of the Gods. Following the call, she slammed down to Earth as quickly as possible.
A blast of light exploded from her as the ground caved beneath her feet. There, she was met with a being the complete opposite of her. Aurora recalled the reign of Hela. It was the only time before 2012 she came close to having to protect a realm in person.
Behind her, there was a cheer. She turned to see Thor smiling wide, "Yes! The Lady of Light has returned! Have you met my sister?"
"Who might you be?" the Goddess Hela questioned before shrugging, saying, "Doesn't matter, guess I just have to kill one more person."
"You might find me a little difficult to kill," Aurora shot back as she fired the largest blast of light she could towards the Goddess. However, the woman was able to use her sword to block it, which was worrisome. Sure, she was a God, but how powerful could she be? Surely not enough to be stronger than Aurora.
Aurora fell to her knees, doing her best to be stronger than Hela, but it was too late. Another man, an Asgardian, was there. Aurora couldn't remember where she knew him from, but he was clearly on the side of Thor at the moment which was all that really mattered.
"Bring us back!" the dark-haired Asgardian shouted, which confused Aurora. It began to make sense when he grabbed Aurora by the arm to bring her with them as the Bifrost shot down, lifting them and hopefully leaving Hela behind. Aurora had never traveled through the Bifrost, she never had to.
She felt something grab her by the ankle and pull her from the other God's grip, looking down and seeing Hela with bloodthirst in her eyes and her teeth bared. Her sword slashed Aurora's throat, but all it did was release a beam of light before sealing back up again. One perk of not being human was that it was just a little bit harder for her to die. Aurora began to wonder if she even could, then again, there wasn't exactly a rulebook for what she was. Out of frustration, Hela let go of her and shoved her through the Bifrost. A feeling akin to shards of glass pierced her skin as she broke the beam, soon falling into open space. She was only freefalling for a minute before she fell through a portal of some type and hit the ground harder than she had ever felt before. Usually, when she hit the ground, her blast would protect her but instead of that she just had the wind knocked out of her while everything around her shook with her landing.
Looking around, trash and miscellaneous objects fell from the portal-seeming openings above her and she was surrounded by piles of the most random objects. To her left, she saw a beaten-up porcelain doll with a hole in the chest and dirt-clouded blonde hair. She picked it up, eyeing it for just a moment before she tossed it aside in favor of looking at the other objects around her.
A tuft of her own blonde hair fell into her face as she did her best to blow it back into place, but instead, she just shoved it behind her ear. Turning to her right, what she saw startled her. It was a shattered mirror, but what shocked her more was her own reflection inside of it. Aurora had never seen herself before. Obviously, she knew certain things like she had blonde hair and took the form of a female but knowing that was so much more different than seeing it. Eyeing her reflection, she squeezed her pale cheeks, watching the blood rush to them and turn her skin pink. She smiled at herself, eyeing flecks of gold in her jade-green eyes, even through a dirty, shattered mirror they shined.
"You seem to be enjoying yourself," a voice interrupted her gleeful review of her human form. Whipping around there was a woman there. She had dark hair and skin just a shade or two darker than olive. What stood out the most was the white lines on her face. Aurora was immediately intrigued by this woman as she crossed her arms and tried to appear intimidating. Aurora realized her glow, as well as her power, felt dampened on this planet. Maybe it was the dreariness. Or the dreading feeling of crippling loneliness.
"I was, thank you," Aurora tried to sound tough, but it was hard for her when half the time she sounded like a Disney Princess. "I didn't realize people lived on this trash planet. What exactly... is this planet?"
"Your new prison," the woman answered, throwing something at her. A small metal plate latched onto the inside of her wrist and the woman lifted a remote. She pressed a button and the metal plate sent a shock through her, but although the intended use was likely to harm her, Aurora just felt a surge of power.
The woman looked baffled by this, looking at the remote and back to Aurora, "What the hell are you?"
"What? Women don't glow on this planet?" she scoffed, doing her best to throw out a smirk as she arrogantly twirled a lock of hair. "I'm... a Guardian. Yes, that's what I will call myself! Now, you seem to know your lay of the land, care to try and answer my question?"
The woman in front of her backed up, but her expression didn't falter, "You're on Sakaar. If that thing can't hurt you, I'll be happy to enlist some help."
Aurora wondered what she meant as the woman clapped together her wrists. The gloves she was wearing lit up and something moved in the ship behind her. In a flash, there was rapid gunfire. The being didn't back down, however, instead, she used as much of her power as she could to protect herself. Her power was dampened by both the state of the planet and because of the battle with Hela, but she was doing her best. When the gunfire ceased, Aurora stood strong.
"You may not want to make such a powerful enemy. What was your name again?" Aurora, in the interest of peace, held out her hand. She believed this was customary when meeting someone new if she remembered correctly. The first to shake her hand had been Thor, oh, she hoped he and the other Asgardian were okay. She really should have asked for his name, she could have sworn she knew him from somewhere. That was a problem for later.
Cautiously, the woman stepped forward and gripped Aurora's hand, "You can call me Scrapper 142."
"That's an odd name," Aurora furrowed her brow, "Are you sure that's it?"
The woman, Scrapper 142, nodded, "It's the only one that matters. I guess I should be sorry for trying to kill you, right?"
"I don't hold grudges unless you try to destroy humanity," Aurora said with a smile, "So, care to help me find my friends?"
Now, obviously, Aurora isn't totally invincible because every good hero has a weakness! Aurora's power has to be completely drained and then she's pretty much just human so she can be killed, but we'll see her get pretty close throughout her story! I'm so excited for this story and I'm especially excited for Aurora's role in the Unfortunate Heroes series!
