23. E Pluribis Unum
I still couldn't believe what we were looking at. "The gate." Steve, Dustin and I said to each other. We then started going back downstairs.
"I don't understand. You've seen this before?" Robin asked, not in person but we knew about it. El had barely closed it up.
"Not exactly." Steve said to her.
"Then what, exactly?" Robin asked us, we couldn't say the truth.
"All you need to know is it's bad." Dustin said to her. Which is was. Who knew would could come out from it.
"It's really bad." Steve said to her and this was why I hated Hawkins.
"Like this needs to be closed yesterday bad." I said to them, or even a week ago. I don't think Hawkins would survive another round of those beasts.
"Like, end-of-the-human-race-as-we-know-it kind of bad." Dustin said to her and I knew that Robin would definitely have a load of questions.
"And you know about this how?" Robin asked us and I definitely couldn't answer that. It was safer if she didn't know.
"Um, Steve? Where's your Russian friend?" Erica asked and that's when we saw him gone. An alarm then came on. We had to go.
"Shit." Steve said before he opened the door and looked out.
"Halt! Halt!" I heard someone yell from out there.
"Shit. Go, go, go, go, go." Steve got out as we tried to find somewhere to go to.
"Shit." Dustin got out. We then went into another room.
"Move! Let's move!" Steve yelled and we made it into the control room with more people. We had to run. "Go! Shit! Shit, shit, shit! Go, go, go!" Steve shouted and I was hating this. This was worse then Demogorgons. I was unarmed this time.
"Shit!" I shouted and we made it to a dead end.
"Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!" Dustin screamed we were absolutely done for.
"Guards! Go!" Erica called out. We couldn't get her in trouble at all.
"This way!" Steve shouted as he pushed a guard out of the way. "Oh, shit! Oh, shit!" Steve shouted as he kept raining. Us running behind him.
"Whoa!" Erica called out and I made sure she was in front of me the whole time.
"Come on! Go, go, go, go, go!" Steve shouted at us and I didn't stop.
"Keep it moving guys!" I shouted at them. Track really came in handy all those years ago.
"Come on!" Robin shouted at us and that's when I saw a door. I held it open.
"Come on!" I shouted at them all.
"Come on, quick!" Robin shouted at us all.
"Hold the door!" Steve shouted and as soon as he came in he closed the door. "Robin! Y/n!" Steve shouted at us and we looked around. This wouldn't keep us for long.
"Shit!" Dustin got out and I heard the banging on the other side growing louder. Along with the yelling as well. I then ran to the door putting my weight on it.
"Help me, come on!" Steve shouted at Robin and then she came over.
"Here! Come on, let's go!" Erica shouted and the kids needed to be the ones that went.
"Come on!" Dustin shouted.
"You need to go!" I shouted at them both. They needed to be safe.
"Go! Just get out of here!" Steve shouted at Dustin but I knew that he wouldn't go without a last word.
"Go, come on, now!" Dustin shouted and that wasn't going to happen.
"No! Just go get some help, okay? What are you doing?!" Steve shouted at him as Dustin just stopped.
"Go!" The three of us yelled at him.
"I won't forget you!" Dustin shouted at us.
"Go!" We all shouted and the door flung open. Guns in our faces straight away. We all put our hands up. There was no way I was dying down here. But for now we'd been caught and whatever happened next at least the three of us would be together. Although we were all in different rooms. Being interrogated.
"Who do you work for?" The guard asked me and I looked at him.
"Like I've said I work for The Gap. You think I'll wear something crazy and patterned like this if I was a spy." I said granting myself a slap.
"Answer correctly, who do you work for?" He asked again and I shook my head. I kept getting objectified to this until I was taken into another room. I saw Steve on the floor.
"Let me go!" I shouted at the guards that had me. Trying to fight them off. They then tossed me to the ground.
"Get your hands off me!" Robin shouted before she landed next to me.
"Steve. Steve." I said as I looked at his face. It was all beaten.
"Hey. Steve? Steve? Steve?" Robin said and Steve wasn't talking.
"Steve? Steve. Please be okay." I said to him and that's when I heard a door open. I felt tears starting to form in my eyes.
"Steve?" Robin said and we looked at the guard. "What did you do to him? What did you do?" Robin shouted and she got a slap from the guy.
"Tell us what you did to him. What did you do?" I asked before I got slap landing on the ground. I'd gotten used to it now. He then spoke to the guards and they picked us all up.
"Don't touch me! Steve- -" Robin shouted and we were placed in chairs. My back was to both of them.
"Steve, you're gonna be okay. I'm here." I said to him but I still couldn't help him. I felt useless.
"Steve, wake up. Steve?" Robin said and that was before they tied us all up. "What did you do?" Robin asked them and I saw one of them lift up Steve's head.
"Let him go! Leave him alone!" I shouted at them. They doing anything else to him. They'd kill him.
"Don't touch him." Robin shouted at them and I heard the guy tut. "Steve? Steve, can you hear us?" Robin asked him and the guy started walking around the room.
"I think your friend need a doctor. Good thing...we have the very best." The officer said before laughing. Robin and I both spat at him. He deserved more than that. "You are going to regret that, little bitches." He said to us before he started to walk out the room.
"Bastards. Let us outta here! Bastards! Let us out! Let us out!" Robin shouted but they were gone.
"Come back! Bastards!" I shouted but they wouldn't. I then looked as much to my right as possible. "Steve, stay with us. You are going to be fine. Stay with us." I said and in this moment Dustin and Erica were our only hope. I couldn't even tell you how long we'd been hostage for.
"Help! Help! Help!" Robin and I shouted, hopefully Dustin or Erica would hear us. Help us.
"Hey, would you both stop yelling?" Steve asked as he stirred awake. He was ok.
"Steve!" I said happily. I hadn't lost him yet.
"Steve! Oh, my God! Steve...are- -are you okay?" Robin asked him.
"Please say your okay." I said to him and I looked at him.
"My ears are ringing, and I can't really breathe, my eye feels like it's about to pop out of my skull, but, you know, apart from that, I'm doing pretty good." Steve said to us and I wish we could get him help.
"Well, the good news is that they're calling you a doctor." Robin said while letting out a chuckle.
"Don't know when he's arriving yet." I said to Steve and I don't think they were coming.
"Is this his place of work? I love vibe." Steve said making Robin and I laugh. I was glad that he was like his normal self. "Charming." He added making me smile.
"Yeah, tell me about it. So, okay, do you see that table over there to your right? No, your other right. Y/n, it's in front of you. And do you see those scissors?" Robin said to the two of us.
"I can see them." I said to her with a nod.
"Uh-huh." Steve said to her.
"Yeah, well, I think if we move at the same time, we could get over there, and then maybe I could kick the table and knock them into your lap." Robin said and this would be a plan.
"And I could cut the binds." Steve said to us and I liked this plan.
"Yeah, and we could get out of here." Robin said to us and I smiled at this whole idea.
"Then we get the other two." I said quietly just in case they were listening.
"Gotcha. Okay, yeah, we can do that." Steve said and this was good.
"Yeah." Robin said with a smile.
"Those morons. They left scissors in here!" Steve said to the both of us.
"They are clearly idiots." I said to him with a smile.
"Yeah, morons." Robin said while laughing. This is what was making things feel better.
"Total morons." Steve said as we all laughed. "Okay." Steve said to us all.
"Okay, so, on the count of three, we're gonna hop." Robin said to us and I nodded n
"Got it, on three." I said, this was going to be one of the hardest parts.
"Okay, good, hop on three. I gotcha." Steve said to us and this I wasn't looking for.
"All right. One, two, three." Robin said and we hopped. We landed it. It worked. "Okay, that worked." Robin said and I was glad it did.
"A few more to go." I said with a smile, we were doing well so far.
"Okay. Right." Steve said to us and I smiled. We could do this. We could get out of here.
"All right. Uh, let's try again." Robin said to us and I had complete faith in us.
"We can do it." I said to them both.
"One, two, three." We counted down and hopped again. We did again.
"Holy shit, this is gonna work!" Robin shouted and I'm glad that it was.
"We're close. Ready?" Steve asked us both.
"I'm ready." I said to them all.
"Okay, one, two, three." We all counted down and toppled over leaving me suspended in the air. I then started to laugh.
"It's okay, it's okay. Don't cry. Robin. Y/n." Steve said and that's when I heard Robin laughing. I then laughed even more. "Are you both laughing?" He asked us and we just laughed harder.
"Yeah." We both said. If we didn't laugh we'd cry.
"Jesus!" He got out. It was nice to know he was worried though.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry. It's just...I can't believe...I'm gonna die in a secret Russian base with Steve 'The Hair' Harrington. And his girlfriend Y/n 'Oregon Beauty' Solace. It's just too trippy, man." Robin said while see was laughing. I had no idea people called me that.
"We're not gonna die. We're gonna get out of here, okay? Just- -you gotta let me just think for a second." Steve said and I didn't think we were getting out of here.
"I think this is it for us Steve." I said to him and unless something happened. We'd be staying here.
"Do you remember, um, Mrs. Click's sophomore history class?" Robin asked, this was way before my time here.
"What?" Steve asked her confusedly.
"Mrs. Clickity-Clackity. That's what is band dweebs called her. It was first period, Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you were always late. And you always had the same breakfast. Bacon, egg, and cheese on a sesame bagel. I sat behind you two days a week for a year. Mister Funny. Mister Cool. The King of Hawkins High himself. Do you even remember me from that class?" Robin asked him and it went silent. I didn't know they knew each other before. "Of course you don't. You were a real asshole, you know that?" She asked him and I remembered those times before he changed.
"Yeah, I know." He said to her and I was glad he was different know.
"But it didn't even matter. It didn't matter that you were an ass. I was still...obsessed with you. Even though all of us losers pretend to be above it all, we still just wanna be popular...accepted, normal." Robin said and I didn't know she was getting at here.
"If it makes you feel any better, having those things isn't all that great. Seriously. It's just baffles me. Everything that people tell you is important, everything that people say you should care about, it's all just...bullshit. But I guess you gotta mess up to figure things out, right?" Steve said to her and he did a bit of that.
"I hope so. I feel like my whole life has been...one big error." Robin said and Steve chuckled.
"Mine has felt the same." I said to her while laughing. Mine was a mess before I came here.
"Yep." Steve laughed out.
"At least it can't get any more messed up than this." Robin said and we all chuckled again.
"You know, I wish I'd known you in Click's class." Steve said to her and I was feeling like an odd one out here.
"Yeah?" Robin asked him.
"Really, I do. Maybe you could've helped me pass the class. Maybe instead of being here, I'd be on my way to college right now. Which you should've gone for Y/n, instead of staying here with me." Steve said and he knew that college wasn't for me.
"You know I would've left immediately." I said to him and he didn't say anything about that.
"And I would have no idea that there were evil Russians beneath our feet, and I would be happily slinging ice cream with some other schmuck getting visits from his girlfriend." Robin said making us all chuckle.
"Gotta say, though, I liked being your schmuck." Steve said to her.
"And I liked being the schmucks visiting girlfriend." I said and I was already missing it. Going on my break to get ice cream and visiting Robin.
"It was fun while it lasted." Steve said and I smiled.
"It was." Robin said as we all came to terms we were never leaving this room.
"My favorite summer." I said and we heard the door open. It was the officer with the doctor.
"Where were you three going?" He asked before clicking his tongue. They then pulled our chairs back up. "Try telling the truth this time, yes? It will make your visit with Dr. Zharkov less painful." He said to Steve as he started to chuckle.
"Wait a second. Wait. Hold on. Okay! Wait, wait, wait! What is that thing?" Steve asked the doctor as he had some kind of gun in his hand.
"It will help you talk." Dr. Zharkov said to him and I didn't want that.
"Did you even clean that thing?!" Steve asked before he started screaming in pain. Maybe we should've gone to college. He could've left with me then we wouldn't be here. Robin and I were then next in line for it. "Honestly, I don't really feel anything. Do you two?" Steve asked and I felt like the same old me.
"No, I feel normal. Completely Normal." I said to him and I wasn't lying.
"I mean, I...I feel fine. I feel normal." Robin said so we were all on the same page about this.
"Yeah, I feel- -I feel fine. I kinda feel good." Steve said and that's when we all started chuckling.
"Wanna know a secret?" Robin asked while she was laughing.
"What?" Steve and I asked her. She was enjoying this a lot.
"I like it, too!" She said and we all laughed together.
"I feel so good right now." I said while laughing. This was the best I've ever felt.
"Morons. They messed up the drug." Steve said to us all.
"Terribly as well." I said to them while laughing. At least we could laugh before we'd die.
"They messed it up! Morons. Hey, morons!" Robin shouted and I smiled at this.
"Morons!" We all shouted together.
"Moron! Mor- -" Robin started and we were having too much fun with this.
"Hey! Whoa-oh!" Steve shouted out making me laugh.
"Oh, no. There's definitely something wrong with us." Robin said and I was glad we were this way.
"Something's wrong." Steve said and that's when the officer walked in. With the doctor behind. I saw all the tools that were getting put out.
"Would now be a good time to tell you that I don't like doctors?" Robin asked and I looked at her.
"I don't like them either. They scare me." I said to her before I looked back at the officer.
"Let's try this again, yes? Who do you work for?" He asked Steve and the answer would be the same as before.
"Scoops. Scoops Ahoy. And she is Gap. The Gap." Steve said making Robin and I laugh. Although this shouldn't even be a laughing matter.
"How did you find us?" He asked Steve and not by our own means.
"Totally by accident." Steve said before chuckling. He then said something in Russian and I saw the doc get the forceps. "What is thats shiny little toy?" Steve asked and I looked at it.
"Now, what is that for?" I asked them but we probably wouldn't get an answer.
"Where you going with that, doc?" Robin asked and they went close to Steve.
"Whoa, whoa, hey, hey. Wait! No! Wait! Wait!" Steve shouted and I saw them take his hand. They were going to pull his nails. "Whoa!" He shouted and I couldn't watch.
"There was a code! We heard a code!" Robin and I shouted. We had to help Steve.
"Code. What code?" The officer asked us and I looked at Robin.
"'The week is long. The silver cat feeds when blue meets yellow in the west.' Blah, blah, blah. You broadcast that stupid spy shit all over town, and we picked it up on our Cerebro, and we cracked in in a day. A day! You think you're so smart, but a couple of kids who scoop ice cream and one that sells clothes for a living cracked your code in a day, and now, people know you're here." Robin said to him and how stupid were they really. These Russians.
"Who know we are here, little bitch?" He asked her and we couldn't say anyone.
"Uh, well, Dustin knows." Steve said and I looked at him.
"Steve, be quiet." I said to him, we couldn't have them looking for Dustin.
"Hey, Steve?" Robin said to him. He needed to shut up.
"Yeah, Dustin Henderson, he knows." Steve said and I shook my head. Dustin was at risk now.
"Steve!" Robin and I shouted at him.
"Dustin Henderson. It is your small, curly-haired friend?" He asked Steve. I was hating this.
"Oh, curly-haired. Great hair. Small. Kind of like a 'fro. Yeah." Steve said and I gave up with him. Henderson could get caught now because of this.
"Where is he?" He asked Steve.
"He's long gone, you big asshole. And he's probably calling Hopper and Y/n's dad, and Hopper's calling the US cavalry. They're gonna come in here, commando-style, guns a-blazin', and kick your sorry asses back to Russia. You're gonna be two pieces of toast." Steve said letting out a snicker. My dad would kill Steve if he heard about this.
"Is that so?" The officer asked him.
"Yeah." Steve said and we all started to laugh again. I then heard an alarm blare and that's stopped everyone. Dustin and Erica had done it. They were getting us out of here. That was when they both stormed into the room with a cattle prod. Getting the doc.
"Holy shit!" I shouted at that. Once he was done Dustin looked at us.
"Hey! Henderson! That's crazy, I was just talking about you." Steve said to him and Robin looked at him.
"Oh, my god!" She got out when she saw him.
"Get ready to run." He said to us and I noticed Erica wasn't there. She must've been somewhere else. Dustin then helped to get us out. I've never been more happy.
