The soft little pitter patter of rain that gently shook the creaky windows a little bit, that made the little girl's eyebrows scrunch up, trying to snuggle back into the faded source of warmth. Her eyes slowly slit open, feeling around the couch, disappointed that Jack was once again, not here by her side whenever she woke up.

She huffed, sitting up and yawning, stretching her little limbs, her legs slightly dangling above the floor lazily. She blinked slowly, her brain still not awake.

A soft scratching sound against the door made the girl jolt up awake. She froze, eyes wide as she kept quiet.

Scratch, Scratch

Biting her lip as she looked around, nobody was there. Not in the kitchen, nobody by the stairs. She was left all alone on the couch, where the room was dimly lit and she could hear the gently rattling of the windows.

She whimpered, scared as she shrunk herself closer to one of the pillows, hugging it and holding it to cover her face, just below her eyes, as she felt her heart hammer against her chest repeatedly. Paranoia started kicking in as she felt herself break into a cold sweat.

She wasn't really afraid of the dark,
just afraid that she'd be alone in the dark.
(wait isn't it the same thing—)

And the scratching noise hadn't disappeared, which scared the girl even more. Who was behind that door? Was it Jack?

She began gnawing on her lip, unaware that a bit of blood drew out as she winced, tasting the metallic flavor. Curiousity got the best out of the little kitty as she slowly placed her feet on the cold tile, shivering.

She carefully got up and quietly made her way to the door. Her eyes fluttered up to the tiny peep-hole. She huffed as it was too tall for her.

Tip-toeing she tried to balance on her two feet, peering up into the peep-hole, but nobody was there. With furrowed eyebrows, she plopped back down to her feet, confused. Yet the scratching noise was still there.

The windows, she thought. Nodding to herself, she padded over to the curtains, inhaling a deep breath she carefully moved the soft fabric of the curtain away, doe-eyes peering out into the window, moving around in different angles to get a better view of the front door.

Suddenly, a sneaky pair of hands circled around her waist, making her draw in a sharp gasp. Behind her, someone chuckled, leaning closer to ear where she could feel his heavy breath fanning on her skin, making her eyes close shut in fear.

"Aw, did I scare you baby?" A familiar voice spoke, making the girls eyes open wide. She quickly turned around, in confusion and anger, eyes shining for a brief moment from the swell up of tears brimming to the full.

"Y-Yes you did!" The girl whisper-shouted, hitting Jack's chest with her sweater paws. "M-Meanie.." The girl huffed, crossing her arms and looking away.

"Ooh, I should take that as a compliment then," Jack answered back playfully, sticking his tongue out, smiling, making his little sharp canines poke out, making him look like a lil' tiger.

The girl stared at him for a moment, fiddling with her sweater paws, a faint hue of pink dusting her cheeks as she mumbled, "Tiger.."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "What tiger?"

The girl pursed her lips, her eyes turning into litle crescents as she smiled. "Y-You look like a w-wittle tiger!" The girl exclaimed, pointing towards him.

Jack looked offended, placing a hand over his chest. "Excuse me, I am not little. Take that back."

"N-no." The girl shot back, sticking her own tongue out. "Y-You're wittle."

"I'm not little!" Jack exclaimed, raising his hands up in exasperation. He pointed a finger towards the girl, more directly near her eye, but thankfully the girl was quick enough to dodge. "You're the one whose little." He said.

"Am not."

"Are t—"

Jack's sentence was cut off as his ears twitched, picking up a small little scratching sound against the door. His eyes narrowed, as he gently pushed past the girl, pressing his ear against the door.

"Baby, can you go up the stairs and wait inside my room? Be sure to lock the door too, okay? Don't ask why." He turned around, eyes cold and tone serious.

The girl flinched at that tone. And though Jack couldn't see, he knew that the lingering silence scared the girl, so he sighed softly, stepping forward and leaning down pecking the little girl's forehead with his blue lips, gently cradling her face and kneading the chubby cheeks.

The girl hummed at the show of affection, melting to the touch, and when Jack pulled away, the girl whined, making Jack chuckle, rubbing his nose with hers, cooing softly.

"Please do as I say, okay?" Jack murmured, resting his forehead against the girl's.

"Okay.." The girl mumbled.

"I'll be back soon, I promise." Jack said, lifting the girl's hand gently, making her little chubby pink stick out, and wrapping it with his own, sealing the promise with a stamp with their thumbs. He kissed the back of the little girl's hand, his empty eyes boring into her sparkly doe-ones.

"Go on," Jack said, standing up and gently pushing the girl towards the stairs, not leaving until he heard the sound of the door shutting from upstairs.

His eyes turned back to the cold demeanor, quickly walking into the kitchen and drawing out a sharp knife from the drawers, hiding it inside his sleeve as he quietly walked towards the door, gently pressing his ear against it.

Surenly enough he could hear the faint scratching noises against the door. He nervously chewed his lips as he slowly lifted his hand up, knocking on the door three times, the sound echoing throughout the room through the hollow wood.

The scratching noise stopped for a moment or two before he heard a long drawl of whine, followed by a whimper as the scratching noises continued, more desperate this time. Jack's eyebrows knitted, confused.

It sounded like an injured animal more than an intruder.
But still, he couldn't be sure.

Closing his eyes and letting out a sharp sigh, he shakily grabbed the door knob and quickly twisted it open, arms spreaded out and sharp knife glinting in the air.

His movements were cut off by the sound of a loud gasp and loud footsteps from upstairs. Before he could turn around, he felt something push past against him, making him stumble a little bit.

"What the f—"

"Look J-Jwackie! I-It's a wittle kittyyy~" The little girl cooed, crouched down out on the front door, gently petting the damp white fur of the little kitty who was drenched from ear to tail outside from the rain.

Jack raised an eyebrow, lowering his knife down and casually shoving it up inside his sleeve so it was nowhere to be seen. "Right. A cat."

"Can we k-keep it?" The girl asked, voice filled with hope. "Pretty pleasee~" The girl begged, shiny orbs boring into his.

Jack groaned, rubbing his temples. Although he wasn't really affected by the puppy-eyes the girl gave him since he couldn't see, her voice was filled with so much excitement and hope— he knew that if he turned down the offer the girl's tone would lace with disappointment and he could literally picture the girl acting all sulky around him.

And of course he wanted to do whatever made the little girl happy.
It made him happy as well.

Damn, he was whipped.

"Fine." Jack huffed, holding the knob of the door tightly. "I'll go get a towel or something to dry it. I don't want it soaking the house everywhere.." grumbling voice disappearing as he walked away to the bathroom.

The girl giggled, still crouched as she watched the little kitty rub it's head against her hand for more affection and warmth. Her eyes turned into little crescents as she gently scratched against one of the little ears on it's head, hearing the loud purr rumbling off it's chest.

"Good kitty.." She whispered under her breath, watching in awe as the cat lifted it's head up, green emerald eyes with black sharp diamond pupils staring into hers, meowing in response.

"Okay, wrap that kitty in a burrito, I'll go make us some cocoa or whatever." Jack said, literally throwing the towel to the girl, when she turned around to thank you him, the towel draped across her face, making her scowl, glaring at Jack with a pout who was busy rummaging through the cupboards.

The girl huffed angrily, lifting the towel up and around the little kitty's body, it's head turning around, confused as it watched the fluffy substance wrap around itself. "He's always this g-grumpy." The girl muttered. "B-But I love him." The girl sighed, annoyed yet fondly.

The girl carefully lifted the little cat burrito into her arms, shutting the door as she cradled it gently as she set it down on the couch, rubbing its forehead, the cat breaking into a fit of purrs, leaning into the touch.

As the girl lifted her hand away from the cat, the purrs stopped immediately, making the cat wriggle itself free from the fluffy towel, tail swishing high in the air, as it leaped into the girl's lap, making her giggle, watching as the cat freely spun around in circles before laying on her lap, tail curling by it's body.

The girl rolled her eyes but smiled, running her fingers through the fluffy cat's body, scratching behind it's ears, hearing the sound of loud purrs fill the air again, it's tail swishing side by side happily in content.

"Cocoa?"

The girl snapped out of her daze to look up at a mug of warm cocoa. The girl stared at it for a moment with twinkling eyes before looking up at Jack. "T-Thank you!" She mumbled, gratefully grabbing the warm mug into her hands, staring at the little bubbles that floated up to the top.

"Blow on it first." Jack reminded, sitting down on the opposite couch, refusing to sit with that furry feline  at all costs with his own mug of coffee.

The girl did as told, blowing on the hot mug, squealing in fright as she blew too hard, the hot liquid splashing a little bit on her face, making her flinch, wiping it with her hand.

Jack sighed in the background, making the girl look up. "Shoulda told you to blow gently.."

The girl smiled sheepishly, blowing gently this time before tilting the mug back, the warm liquid rushing down her throat, her eyes widening as she licked her lips. And in a few seconds she quickly drank the yummy cocoa down, enjoying the warm liquid rushing down her throat and warming the inside of her body up.

She was finished by the time she proudly set the mug down with a loud clonk on the table, wiping the excess liquid around her mouth with the back of her hand.

Jack raised an eyebrow, still gently blowing on his hot mug of coffee. "Already done? I could make you another one if you want."

"N-No thanks!" The girl said, sitting criss-crossed as she gently shifted the little kitty into her arms, cooing as it snuggled into the girl's fluffy sweater.

She looked back up at Jack. "I-It was really yummy." She said. "N-Never had it before.." The girl murmured at the last part.

"Why not?" Jack asked, sipping his mug of coffee.

The girl shrugged. "D-Dad said I c-couldn't."

Jack frowned, his fingers gripping onto the mug tightly before sighing, keeping his anger in. "Look, baby if you ever want something you can just ask me without hesitation. I'm not your dad. (—ddy 👀 yet) "

The girl felt a smile tug on her lips. "Anything?" She asks, leaning in.

"Well okay, there are some circumstances. That's why today we're gonna set rules for you and I." Jack said.

The girl pouted, leaning into the soft cushions on the sofa. "U-Unfair."

"Very fair." Jack tutted. "I'll set rules for you and you can set rules for me, deal?"

The girl thought about it for a minute before muttering, "fine.." gently stroking the cat's now half-dried fur, staring down at it. "W-We need to buy M-Mr. F-Fwuffles treats.."

Jack almost spat his coffee back into his mug.
"Mr. fluffles?"

"H-He's fluffy." The girl pointed out. "T-Touch him! He's really s-soft."

Jack recoiled with a disgusted look on his face. "No thanks."

The girl pouted. "C-Come on!"

When Jack didn't answer or budge, the girl had a mischevious idea, slowly standing up the couch and gently carrying the little kitty in her arms, Jack listening to her movements with a twinge of worry and fear in his chest.

"What are you doing."

A sudden dip in the couch made his heart jump and the next thing he knew he felt a fluffy soft fur rub against his shirt and he immediately freezed up, feeling the cat walk around his lap, before laying down, purrs rumbling off it's chest.

"Oh my god."

The girl giggled next to him, wiggling her eyebrows. "I-I know right."

"Get this thing off me!" Jack hissed, his body still frozen.

The girl frowned. "T-That's Mr. F-Fwuffles."

"How do you even know it's a guy?" Jack whispered, scared of waking the cat up, arms slowly lifting up from his lap away from the cat.

The girl pondered that thought for a moment, unsure what to answer. "M-Mrs. F-Fwuffles d-doesn't sound g-good.." She muttered underneath her breath.

She heard Jack snort beside her, muttering something against the mug of coffee as he sipped from it. Luckily the girl heard it and she let out a loud gasp, gently slapping Jack's arm, making him chuckle.

"I-I am n-not naming the k-kitty chicken n-nugget!"
