Love Is Gone (Angst)

This will be my first oneshot to start out this Ryuga Boyfriend/Husband Scenarios and Oneshots book. Warning: this will make you cry. Lyrics are in the video above. I do NOT own the rights to the picture, the cover of this book nor the music. They belong to their respective owners. Prepare yourself, this will be angst for the whole oneshot!

Name Request Change: None, it stays as Kari.

"Dragon Emperor Supreme Flight!"

As soon as Ryuga does the finishing move, it's over. The blader that he and Meteo L-Drago had gone up against was beaten. He can hear the crowd chanting his name, and he can't help but grin. But there's one person that he thought was going to be here cheering for him, but he doesn't catch sight of the auburn hair anywhere. He then hears his name being called back out by Blader DJ. Not wanting to disappoint, he walks out, and he frowns only slightly.

He'd been wishing that his biggest supporter throughout his tournaments and career as a blader, his wife was here to see his big win, like she usually is. But not this time. She's been working daily shifts again, even though her job is harder than his on a daily basis. Not that he can complain. His golden dragon eyes land on the black and gold wolf wedding band that dons his left hand in a gleam.

He sees that Blader DJ is there, huddled beside two figures. When he looks up, turning to the man behind him, Ryuga's breath catches in his throat, and he has to hold it back.

His two children, his seven-year-old son, Ryu, and his four-year-old daughter, Amelia, are here, crying and shivering. But their mother, his wife, Kari Kishatu is nowhere in sight. He races up to them, wrapping his arms around them, and picking them up.

"What's the matter?" He asks them. "Where's your mother?" Blader DJ steps forward, Ryuga can see the man's trying to hold back tears himself. Ryuga's eyes narrow, his heart slowly breaking.

"Where is she?" He asks again, gritting his teeth. "Don't make me ask again." The whole crowd has gone silent, watching this. Blader DJ looks up, meeting Ryuga's eyes, then holds up two things, two things that makes Ryuga's heart drop to his stomach.

It's Kari's wedding band, an infinity symbol crossing over a dragon head, and her bey, Rage Lupus. Blader DJ finally starts crying.

"Kari Kishatu has been.......killed. A car wreck on her way here. She was picking Ryu and Amelia up from school, and she was on her way here to the stadium to watch you. But a car ran a red light and crushed the driver's side. Ryu was sitting in his booster seat on the left side, thankfully, his injuries aren't severe. But Kari......she........s-she didn't make it. By the time we got to the hospital, she was already too far gone." Ryuga doesn't say anything, just carries his children, Kari's wedding band and her bey as well. He closes his eyes after a moment, then turns.

"Let me take my children home," he says. "They're traumatized by what happened to them today, and I'm just happy that they're safe." Blader DJ looks up.

"But the tournament- Ryuga cuts him off.

"Screw the damn tournament! Just.....please, let me take them home." Ryuga's shoulders shake, clearly he's trying to keep his composure from crumbling right now. He carries Ryu and Amelia to a taxi, telling the driver their address, then paying him with a crap ton of bills he's earned from winning tournaments. Amelia's hands fist in her father's white jacket-cape, but doesn't say a word. Ryu just looks out the window, not saying anything either.

For the whole time they're in the taxi, they don't say anything. Amelia ends up falling asleep on her father, but Ryu stays awake. Ryuga turns to his son.

The boy has his mother's hair, auburn, but has his father's dragon eyes, and his mother's stubborn attitude. Amelia is the complete opposite of her older brother, having white hair like her father, but having her mother's hazel-gold wolf eyes, and her father's attitude. They're still good kids, always playing with each other, and Ryu is a good big brother, always protecting his little sister from bullies and such. Ryuga leans his head back, but doesn't say anything.

The taxicab stops at their home, and Ryuga gets out, picking up the four-year-old in his arms. Ryu goes to the other side to help out his father.

"Daddy, I got her-

"No, Ryu. I got her. Just pay the driver, and get inside, okay?" Ryuga is still trying to keep up his composure, but Ryu can tell it's starting to crumble. He obeys his father however, and takes the cash from his father's hand and hands it to the driver. The driver tilts his hat to them with a smile, and says to Ryuga,

"I'm sorry, man." Ryuga just waves the man off, and the taxi pulls out of their driveway. Ryu grabs the keys from his father's pocket without a word, and opens the door, rushing inside. He goes upstairs and starts getting ready for bed, while Ryuga just follows his son upstairs, and places Amelia in her bed, dressing his daughter in her pajamas. He kisses the top of her head, then tucks her into bed.

"Good night, my little dragon." He whispers to her. He turns and walks in Ryu's room, seeing that the boy's cheeks are red, and tears have started to flow from his eyes. He gathers the boy in his arms, picking him up, as the auburn-haired boy finally cries into his father's jacket, his head buried into the soft fabric.

"It's okay, little wolf," he whispers. But he can barely stop his own tears from falling himself. "It's okay. I know. I miss her too." Ryu sobs into his father's shoulder, even as Ryuga rubs the boy's back tenderly.

"I miss Mama," he whispers. "I miss her so much." Ryuga shushes his son gently, finally putting him down. He would've if the boy's grip hadn't tightened on his jacket, pulling him as close as he can as if he's afraid of losing his father too.

"Hey, I'm right here," he says softly to Ryu. "I'm right here for you and Amelia, until the last light goes out. I won't leave you, not yet. Not now, not ever." He kisses his son's head, letting him down after the boy has finally calmed down.

"Is Mama watching us?" Ryu asks. "From Heaven?" Ryuga nods. He wipes at his son's tears.

"Yeah," he says. "Your mom's watching us from Heaven, yes. She's proud of you and Amelia, you know that? Following our footsteps, as bladers."

"Do you think that we'll become professional bladers, like you guys?" Ryu asks. Ryuga nods gently.

"Yeah, someday. You will. Never forget that even though your mother's gone, she still lives on, in here." He says softly, putting a finger to the boy's chest. He kisses the boy's head again, but just as he's about to walk out, his son asks,

"Will we get a new mama, Daddy?" Ryuga's heart almost drops again when his son asks this. He turns to the boy.

"No," he answers truthfully. "I don't think that will happen, little wolf."

"But why?" Ryuga sighs and answers truthfully,

"Because your mother was the love of my life, my best friend, my best supporter, and my soulmate. No woman could ever complete me like she did. She was my rock on every tournament I've ever been in. No one else could ever love me like your mother did. Do you understand me?" Ryu nods.

"Yes, Daddy." Ryuga nods, then kisses the boy's forehead again.

"Okay, little wolf. Get some sleep. I'll go make sure your sister's asleep, then I'll get some sleep as well. Okay?" Ryu nods again.

"Yeah. Goodnight, Daddy." Ryuga nods gently, turning on his son's nightlight, then before closing the door, he says to his son softly,

"Goodnight, my little wolf." He closes the door, then goes to see Amelia.

The four-year-old white-haired little girl is awake, as he thought, on her knees, praying, her little hands folded in front of her. Her cheeks are red, and wet with tear-stains, her bow that her mother puts in every morning before daycare, ruffled and loose from her hair. Ryuga stands in the doorway, listening to his daughter's prayer.

"Dear God, if You can hear me, send an angel to look after Daddy and us. You have gained another angel in Heaven, taken from us too soon. Please send an angel to look after this household in this time of grief in our family. We are struggling hard, and I know that Daddy works hard as a blader, and Mommy did too. Please, take care of her, and send Daddy angels as well. Amen." Amelia stands up, and crawls into bed, hearing her father's voice in the doorway.

"That was a beautiful prayer, my little dragon," he says. "I miss her too, you know. Your mother, she was my light, the love of my life, my stone, and my greatest supporter." He wraps his arms around her, fixing her bow, then kissing her forehead.

"I miss her, Daddy." Amelia admits. Ryuga nods, picking her up the same way he picked up Ryu, running his fingers gently through her white hair.

"I know, little dragon," he says, his tears starting to prick his eyes. "I know you do. I miss Mommy, too." Amelia pulls away.

"Daddy, why are you crying?" She asks, noticing the tears in her father's eyes. Ryuga wipes at his eyes with a finger, sniffling.

"Because," he says, choking up. "Your daddy misses mommy, too." Amelia kisses the tip of her father's nose, then his eyelids, him closing his eyes so she can do so, then lets her little hands caress his cheeks, wiping at his tears.

"Don't cry, Daddy," she says to him. "Mommy is watching over us now. She's one of God's angels now." Ryuga buries his head in his youngest child's shoulder tenderly, sniffling.

"Thank you, sweetheart," he says, sighing shakily. "Thank you, my little dragon." He pulls away, kissing his daughter's cheek tenderly, then puts her down in her bed, watching her curl up with two plushies: a plush of Meteo L-Drago, and a plush of Rage Lupus.

"Goodnight, Daddy." Amelia whispers. Ryuga nods, turning on his daughter's nightlight, then turns back to her.

"Goodnight, Amelia, my little dragon." He whispers back, before placing another tender kiss on his daughter's forehead before walking out, turning off his daughter's light, then leaves the room, closing the door. He then looks over the pictures.

*Cue music*

Don't go tonight,
Stay here one more time,
Remind me what it's like,
And let's fall in love,
One more time.

One of the pictures shows Ryuga and Kari after they had met at a tournament, Kari on Ryuga's back, grinning as she holds up a trophy, Ryuga laughing.

I need you now by my side,
It tears me up when you turn me down,
I'm begging please, just stick around.

The other picture shows Ryuga and Kari on their first date, Kari laughing as Ryuga gets chocolate syrup on his nose. A third shows Ryuga playfully throwing pie at Kari's face, and laughing as she tries to get some of the frosting from the pie on his face.

I'm sorry, don't leave me,
I need you here with me.
I know that, your love is gone.

A fourth picture shows Ryuga and Kari on another date, Kari wearing a sundress and a pretty red bow in her hair. Ryuga's wearing casual clothes, but is still wearing his trademark headpiece.

I can't breathe, I'm so weak, I know this isn't easy,
Don't tell me that your love is gone.
That your love is gone.

A fifth picture shows Ryuga on top of a mountain, on one knee, with a ring box open in his hand, Meteo L-Drago swirling around to form four words in the dirt, "will you marry me?" Kari in the photo bursting in tears, hands over her mouth in shock and joy. He can still remember her reaction and her saying yes. That look she'd given him with her hazel-gold eyes had been priceless, he had to take a shot of her. That picture hangs right beside that one, her showing off that gorgeous rock on her left hand.

Don't tell me that your love is gone,
That your love is gone.

A seventh picture shows Kari and Ryuga on their wedding day, Kari wearing one of the most gorgeous wedding dresses in the world. It had been lace, sleeveless, showing off her bare shoulders, her wedding veil flowing behind her, her hazel-gold eyes shining with love for the man she was marrying. Ryuga had worn a black tux that day, his golden headpiece shining broadly on his head. His breath had been taken away that day when he saw her walking down the aisle with her father at her side to give her away. She even had a bouquet of white roses in her hands. Ryuga had almost been in tears when that happened.

I'm sorry, don't leave me, I want you here with me,
I know that your love is gone.

A couple more pictures show them on their honeymoon trip to Amsterdam, one of the most gorgeous places on Earth for them to spend their honeymoon at in Europe.

I can't breathe, I'm so weak,
I know this isn't easy,
Don't tell me that your love is gone.
That your love is gone.

Another picture shows Kari holding up a positive pregnancy test, and Ryuga with his arms around her. That was the most beautiful, heartfelt and best moments of their lives, when Kari had found out that she was pregnant with Ryu, and Ryuga had wanted nothing more in that moment to be a father. There's even pictures of ultrasounds from both Ryu and Amelia in the last couple of years.

That your love is gone, hmmm.

The last few pictures are of Kari throughout both pregnancies, then of Kari holding her oldest son, Ryu in her arms after she'd given birth to him, the love shining in her eyes, and in tears because she was overjoyed at being a mother at last. Ryuga remembers when her water had broken, she was cursing at him relentlessly, saying that he had done this, and that they were never getting intimate again, until Ryu had come into the world. Ryuga could not believe his eyes when his golden eyes landed on his son for the first time, nor his daughter after she arrived three years later.

I can't breathe, I'm so weak, I know this isn't easy,
Don't tell me that your love is gone,
That your love is gone.

Ryuga's eyes then land on their most recent pictures, of Ryu losing his first tooth, of Amelia playing in the sand with her older brother, both siblings hugging each other, of Kari sleeping at both their sides when they were tired and wanted to take naps. Then, their last picture of all: the whole family gathered around after Kari's recent win at a tournament, kissing Ryuga hard, her bey, Rage Lupus in her hand, the kids with their arms wrapped around their mother's neck for the win.

Ryuga then loses it, his emotions tumbling out like a waterfall, his tears coming down like waterfalls as the dam breaks, and so does his heart.

"Why'd you have to leave us, Kari?" He whispers. "It wasn't your time, my Empress. It wasn't!" His voice rises, and his tears continue to fall, sinking to his knees. He cries as his heart shatters, his fingers running through his hair in frustration and grief. Never has he grieved in his life until today. That accident cost him the love of his life, his anchor, his supporter, the woman who not only took his breath, but his heart, and everything else. His eyes then land on a note, folded, with his name on it. He opens it, and starts reading.

"Ryuga,

If you're reading this, then I'm already gone. I'm sorry that I had to leave you and our children, but know that God has a plan for our family, and for me as well. Dry your tears, my love, and look up to the sky. When the sun sets and rises, it's the end of one day and the start of a new one. That doesn't mean your life will end. Raise our children the way that I want them to be raised, that we want them to be raised, and someday, you will join me up here in Heaven as a guardian angel, watching over our children as they grow up, and live their lives as we raised and taught them to be. Know this, my love for you will never fade, and I hope yours doesn't, either. I love you, my Dragon Emperor, and take care of yourself, the kids and Rage Lupus for me. I'll see you in the Garden of Eden someday.

Love,
Your Dragon Empress, your biggest supporter, your wife, your best friend and soulmate,
Kari Kishatu.

Once Ryuga has read the note all the way through, it's almost like he can hear his wife's voice in his ear, reading out the letter she'd written for him. He cups his mouth with his hand, taking in a shuddering breath, then hears footsteps. He turns to see both his children on the stairs, watching him. He turns to them, the note still in his hand, and holds out his arms, sniffling. Amelia and Ryu race towards him, their eyes shining with tears, and the father holds his two precious angels in his arms, on his knees as the three of them cry, the aroma of a cinnamon candle floating throughout the house, giving it a calm, yet serene and melancholy mood. The three stay like that, the lights dim in the living room, Ryuga seeing the silhouette of his wife, as a spirit, smiling at her family.

"Watch over them, Ryuga," she whispers, her voice like a small wind in Ryuga's ear. "Watch over Amelia and Ryu, and tell them that even though I'm gone, I'm still watching over them. Tell them I love them, and I'll see them soon." Ryuga nods, sniffling.

"You can count on me, Kari," he whispers. "I'll tell them, so that they don't forget your love for them as a mother." He sighs shakily.

He stays in that position with his children, Amelia perking up.

"Mama's here," she says. "She's here with us." Ryuga nods.

"Yeah, my little dragon," he says. "She is here. With us, in our hearts." Ryu grins.

"I love you, Mama," he whispers. "With all my heart." Ryuga nods.

"She loves you too," he says. "She loves you both so much."

Whoo, boy! This was hard to write, oh my gosh! This was long, too! I'm in tears, I literally was crying the more I wrote this! The question is: is it harder to lose a parent or a child? The answer is it's harder to lose a child, much harder. Kari's parents, which are not mentioned, have lost their little girl, Ryuga has lost his wife, and their children lost their mother! The song Love Is Gone, which I do not own the rights to, I think it fits perfectly with this, since it's the acoustic version, and it sets the sad, and melancholy mood of this oneshot. This wasn't by request, I actually wrote this out myself, and I didn't think it would turn out like this, but it did. I wanted to start off my Scenarios/Oneshots book, and this is the start! Comment, vote, and I'll see you in the next oneshot or Scenario, by request!
