{{Chapter 9}}
The 3 teens remained stunned from the sight across the room. The elite was seen standing in front of the exit after the crowd of former dance track members left the room. What Luz quickly noticed about her that both of Amity's hands formed into fists.
It appears that she was already wearing her gym bag on her back which made the freshman's eyes widen at the thought. Multiple questions were filling Luz's mind, but she could help but focus more on the elite than her friends.
The sounds around her became disorientated once again, ignoring all of her friends' gossip behind her. Even though the freshman was able to recall all the troubles and interaction they had, she still wanted to talk to her
All remained silent after a few seconds, both Willow and Augustus shifted their attention to the elite. They thought she was about to leave the club since her reputation as an elite started to go downhill, but there she stood.
Luz was the first one to speak up, taking a few steps towards Amity who still has her back turned to avoid any contact with the freshman
"Amity?" Luz reached out with a worried tone in her voice. Sadly, the elite didn't reply nor turn around.
The freshman took another few steps, breaking the distance between her and Amity. She reached out her hand once again, attempting to tap Amity's shoulder to get her attention.
She got even closer. "H-hey, you okay?" She asked before placing her hand onto the elite's shoulders. "Look, if you hate me that much, I'll leave."
Amity's eyes widened, turning around to face Luz afterward. "You... you ruined everything." She managed to stammer out.
The sound of her broken voice was enough to send Luz into guilt. She could admit, ever since she appeared here in Hexside, everything began falling apart, including the whole dance casts leaving and burning Amity's reputation to the ground.
The moment where Amity turned around, the two met each other's eyes. The light was reflecting onto them which made their gazes brighter. Both felt like they were together for hours, but in reality, it has only been a few seconds.
Amity's cheeks suddenly started to burn up. Despite the tension between them, she knew she could never show any affections nor weakness to anyone lower than her. But at this point, Amity started to question herself if she was still an elite.
For Luz, she was more focused on fixing the mess she made. Guilt was now overtaking over her mind. "Amity is right, I did ruin everything." She repeatedly told herself.
But after a while, Amity was the first to break their gaze. She pulled away from the freshman and looked at two freshmen in the distance.
"Why are you three still here? Go, go with those cowards!" The elite shouted, making Luz take a few steps back.
"We're not leaving, Amity." Luz confidently replied. "No one can force us out of this club, we're not giving up that easily."
She turned to her friends. "But what about you, captain? We can ask you the same question." Willow added. " Why are you still here?"
Augustus stood beside. "Yeah, why didn't you join them when they left? You already know that you're no longer an elite at this state-"
"Gus!" Luz was quick to stop her friend, lightly punching his arm.
Augustus softly chuckled. "Okay, I'm sorry. But why are you still here though?"
Amity folded her arms to her chest. "I don't give up like them, I'm STILL an elite after all." She then turned to the freshman. "And you... You just don't give up, do you?"
"I don't." Luz smiled, placing a hand behind her neck. "So, are you okay? You're staying right?"
"Of course." The elite started and faced the stage. "Since you three are staying, I'm just staying to make sure you won't burn Hexside's reputation."
"Like what Luz did to you- Ouch!" Augustus was interrupted by Willow. "Sorry, geez."
The freshman followed. "But aren't you still mad at me for... you know?" She worriedly asked. "I mean, If you want, I could leave right now-"
"W-what? No don't you dare!" Willow pulled her into a hug from behind. "You didn't just make a whole club quit their future just to be here! Oh, wait-"
"That's the point, Willow." Luz started. "It's my fault. If I did listen to Boscha then none of this should have happened."
The freshman suddenly started to tear up, making her friends share the same worried look. They both pulled Luz into a hug and comforted her.
In front of them was Amity, even she was surprised when she saw the freshman tearing up. Based on their interaction earlier, a brave teen like her shouldn't show any weaknesses to anyone. That's what the elite thought of course.
She only remained in her position as she secretly glances at Luz once in a while. Aside from her anger towards Luz, something else was still dragging her down.
The pressure of her being the captain, the guilt of putting Boscha in her state right now, the loss of all her crewmates, and lastly, the confusing feeling whenever she looks deeply into Luz's eyes.
All the elite could do was watch Luz break down into tears. Not long after, the feeling on her chest started to deepen. She had no idea what this what called nor how to counter it. It all made her snap out of her thoughts.
"Shut up, freshman!" She snapped out, making the others turn their attention back to her.
Amity then walked towards Luz and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Crying isn't gonna fix anything, it only makes you look weak and an easy target to others with an upper title."
"Let me guess, Boscha taught you that." Luz wiped her tears away. "Everybody has to cry sometimes, Amity. We couldn't just hold it inside, it will just make it worse!"
The elite stood speechless, unable to think of any response. As much as she wanted to admit that Luz was right, she kept forcing herself to follow Boscha's advice.
"I prefer to keep it to myself. Mine's more effective, just saying." She scoffed before walking near the exit. "Well, I hate to break it to you Luz, but a crew of 4 is not enough for the qualifying matches next week."
Luz pulled away from her friend's hug. "Well, yeah! But... We can find some more members now, right?"
"And where do we find them? Remember, Luz, were the Hexside witches, we are the defending champions all over the land! Every member must be an experienced dancer with a valuable background.
She pointed a finger at Luz. "And you, since you're still here in the club, may I ask you what were your achievements in your past school?"
The freshman couldn't help but chuckle nervously. "Uh, about that..." She backed away, using Willow as a human shield. "How about I tell you that I only started to get into dancing just 3 months ago and I don't have any achievements... yet."
"YOU WHAT?!" Amity was quick to ask, almost shouting. "Oh, Titan please help me. I'm being surrounded by idiots."
"Now what did you just say?" Luz asked with a smile while walking up to the elite.
Luckily Willow managed to pull her back and pat her hair to make her calm down. Luz growled at Amity, almost trying to intimidate a dog sound.
"Aw, is the stray puppy mad?" Amity continued to tease with a smirk.
"Better yet, is she mad because we are NEVER gonna find any new members for the club? Oh please, I've been in this club for 2 years, I have never seen any new members being approved except for Willow and Augustus."
Augustus butted in. "It's because you never let anyone audition! It's always the same boring crew you and Boscha have."
"Because our lineup of members were skilled and experienced. We managed to win in the nationals tournament because of that. And now, "angry-stray-dog" over here had to scare them away."
"Call me that one more time and I swear I'll bite-"
Before Luz could even counter Amity's continuous insults, a voice was heard calling in the entrance. With that, all of the teens followed the sound to the door. And there they saw a girl with a blue and orange jacket.
She awkwardly waved her hand before stepping inside the room. "Uhm, is this the right time or?"
"We're kinda in the middle of something important here-" Amity was cut off when Luz cheerfully blocked her way. "Noceda!"
"Don't mind her, is there something you need?" Luz happily greeted with a warm smile. "What brings you to this hellhole- I mean to the dance track?"
The student smiled, placing her hand behind her neck. "Uhm, I couldn't help but listen to the shouting and yelling coming from this room but I heard you need new members for the club."
A huge smile suddenly forms on Luz's face, her excitement was now rising once again after hearing the student's question. She then crossed her arms and turned to Amity with a smug-teasing face.
"No members, huh, Blight? Just wait and watch me." She lastly said before walking towards the students.
"W-whatever! She's only one, we need more-" The elite paused when she saw 2 more students appear behind the first girl. "Well, crud."
"We heard there's an opening in the dance track! Finally, they're recruiting new members again!" The tall boy cheered.
He then peeked inside the room. "Finally, we have the chance to audition. The Dance track usually doesn't let anyone in nor let others watch them last year."
The girl continued. "It's an honor to sign up to this club! So... Is it true or?"
Luz was surprised that just by the argument of her and Amity had gotten attention outside the hallways. But she knew, this was the chance she needed to get back on track.
"Yes, it is true! Please come inside and introduce yourselves!" She freely opened both doors to make a huge entrance for the students waiting outside.
Amity gasped. "Hey! Y-you can't just let them in like that!"
"Amity please, we need this." Willow tried to stop her from approaching the recruits. "Please."
The elite sighed and looked away. The sight of Luz freely letting others into the club really disturbed her. It's a known fact that everyone had to be interrogated and questioned before they can get inside the club.
It was not that easy when Boscha still holds the club, especially last year. Despite the two being freshmen that year, they still managed to build up and make the club even stronger.
"If Boscha sees this, I'm so screwed." She facepalmed herself, still trying to hide her anger from showing.
After the 3 new students entered the room, Luz made them form a straight line in front for further questioning.
"Okay, before we let you guys in, please introduce yourselves!"
The girl in a ponytail was the first to step up. "Name's Viney! I'm a second-year and former healer and pet-keeping president. I'm hoping to join this club to mix things up a bit, I hope you consider!"
"Awesome, how bout you two?" Luz made her finger-guns move and pointed to the 2 boys beside Viney.
"Uhm, hi. I'm Jerbo and this is Barcus. We three are known as the underdogs in this school but we try our best to ignore them. I'm also in the plant and arts crafting track while Barcus is in the science and magic last year.
The freshman quickly gave the 3 handshakes, barely keeping the excitement to herself. "Nice to meet you 3, how about you, my dude?"
Jerbo chuckled. "He's Barcus, he doesn't really talk that much." He patted his friend's brown hair.
At that exact moment, Amity suddenly walked beside Luz, scanning the recruits. "They look... Okay, but we're still missing 3 members."
"Then we'll find some more." Luz calmly replied.
Not long after that, another voice was heard near the exit. Luz gave Amity her usual smug look before running to the door to check who it was.
But when she opened the entrance, there she saw a boy in dark clothing, two-toned hair with white as the top color, and two demon-like horn accessories in his hair.
"Uh..." Luz took a few steps back, letting the small student enter the room.
Once he entered, all of the students inside shifted their attention to the new kid.
He smirked, placing down his skateboard to step on it.
"Behold, your king of teens!"
