{{Chapter 15}}
After both teens made it to another building within the campus, several other elites followed from behind them. Most of them were keeping a steady look for an elite yet some were trembling in fear for the ongoing meeting.
Luz and Amity were able to stay on a small dimmed spot near the entrance, where they both regained their breath from all the running.
The freshman sighed and sat down, offering Amity to sit beside her. As for the elite, she accepted and took her offer.
With still a few minutes free, Luz took the chance to look around the representing elite building on the campus. There she saw all elites from different clubs, looking frightening amongst the other regular students.
"Should we go inside or?" Luz asked the teen beside her. "Are we late?"
"No, just in time actually." Amity forced out a weak smile. She then looked around the place, avoiding making contact with some specific elites waiting near the entrance.
Luz arched an eyebrow at her. "Hm, what's wrong? Don't you want to talk to your other elite buddies?"
No response came out from Amity, instead, she only looked away and moved closer to Luz, acting as she was a known prey amongst the elites.
With this, Luz became confused. "If Amity is a known elite, then why is she acting so scared all of a sudden? Wait, is she?" She asked herself.
All she could do was comfort the teen and wait for an announcement. The freshman must admit, staying right beside Amity made her feel comfortable. Unlike their first similar situation back at the club room.
Moments later, the doors opened. All elites, including Amity and Luz, then faced them, feeling nervous as ever.
And yet, most of the elites stood strong and presentable for their title. But inside those doors was a prepared table for all second elites and their assistance.
Now that the meeting has begun, Luz immediately stood up and offered her friend a helping hand. "Come on, let's just get this over with."
But before Amity could even place her hand on the teen, she noticed that other elites were glaring at them, in disgust and anger.
Amity knew her title is on the line, and without Boscha by her side, she's falling apart as a standing elite. Every action presented will affect your status and your title. All elites trained for proper manner and leadership and yet Amity fails to show it.
The teen paused, looking back into Luz's eyes. But instead of using Luz's hand to help her stand up, she quickly slapped it away and stood up by herself.
"I don't n-need your help, Noceda." She started and walked towards the entrance. "Let's go. We don't want our seats taken, don't you?"
The freshman sighed. "Yeah, lead the way I guess." She pulled back her hand and placed it inside her hoodie's pocket.
As Luz followed the teen inside, something else was bothering her. Fear was slowly overtaking her mind, nervousness made her heart beat faster, and seeing the fear in Amity's eyes just made it worse.
Because of the rumors, all elites started to target the poor teen. Because of her title of being the third elite in the dance, she now has to act like one.
After taking back row seats, Amity, Luz, and the other elites stood quiet as they waited for the others to get settled.
The freshman yawned and looked around. "This place sure is fancy, huh? It's actually cool that you get to hang in here every day, Amity."
"Well, not always. Boscha is the one dragging me to this place but, it's nice I supposed." She replied before facing Luz. "How are you?"
The teen arched an eyebrow at her. "Huh? What do you mean?"
"We're... You're being surrounded by all these elites. Doesn't it scare you, even just a little bit?" She asked in a weakened tone, stuttering in some parts.
Luz simply smiled and patted her shoulder. "Why should I be scared? It's not like I was about to break down out of fear earlier." She nervously chuckled.
"Eh, What I meant was. Yes, I was scared, but now that I think of it, they're just students just like us. So what if they're elites? It doesn't mean they have to be feared and be mean to others, you know?"
Amity's eyes widened as if she was inspired by the teen's short speech. " I wish it was that simple, Luz. But ever since the Elite system was built, obedience, patience, and peace were formed, placing our school in one of the best in the country."
"It doesn't matter if other students hate it, the principal and the lead elites would just ignore them. All of these just to make our school better."
"What kind of school forces its students to be feared by higher ones? This elite system is straight out unfair and disgusting."
Amity giggled. "Shush, they'll hear you."
Luz smiled back. "Hm, I'm surprised that you actually agree with me. Is there a rebelling soft side Amity that I should know about?" She asked with a teasing look.
The elite's cheeks redden, realizing that she was actually getting along with the freshman. "N-No! None, I-I... Shut your mouth, Noceda. It's about to start." She managed to stammer out.
"I got my eye on you." Luz silently giggled before following Amity's gaze, leading to another Emperor's coven representative on the stage.
-
Several minutes have now passed and the meeting is nowhere near the end. The representatives started showing slides about the recent events and problems that occurred on school grounds.
Luz was eventually about to sleep at this point while Amity tried her best to listen to every detail being discussed, but she somehow couldn't recall anything about the earlier discussions.
She wasn't like this before, it was weird. She would most likely be the most active among the elites when she attends meetings with Boscha. But now, something was distracting her.
Amity brushed through her hair with one hand, looking down at her partner afterward. And there she saw Luz, taking a nap right beside her.
Instead of getting angry at her for ignoring important lessons, Amity suddenly felt her heart skip a beat. Her cheeks eventually reddened when she realized Luz had her kitty-eared hoodie on to cover her face.
"Awh." A small gasp escaped from her mouth, still watching the freshman sleep cutely while discussions are still ongoing.
Then suddenly, she recognized her actions and affections towards Luz. Her eyes widened as she glanced around the room.
"Wait, what am I doing? Focus on the discussion, Blight!" She kept repeating to herself. But mentioning her last name over and over again somehow made her eyes tear up.
"No." She rested her face on her palms. "I'm not like this at all, what's going on with me? I know what they're teaching us is wrong, Boscha told me herself. But unlike before, I couldn't focus on the discussion."
"Is it because-" She paused, looking down to her fellow club member. "Is it because of her? She's just an overconfident idiot, why is she even here with us upper ranking?"
Before Amity could even answer her own questions, she heard a soft yawn coming from the teen beside her. She shifted her gaze into her eyes as she waits for a response.
Luz yawned. "Wait, it's not done yet? For the love of Titan." she flipped back to the other side to continue her sleep. "Wake me up when this is over."
The elite was quick to respond, making her anger grow worse. She gritted her teeth and held Luz's shoulders to make her face her once again.
"No! You can't just sleep through an important meeting! This is the elite council, act like this and they'll kick you out!"
"Woah, relax, Amity." She gasped, grabbing Amity's shoulder. "I know you're an elite and all but this is an absolute waste of our time."
"Nonsense! I've been attending all of the meetings for the past 2 years and look what I've become now, a better student. They're trying to educate and help us become better elites for this school's role models."
"A better student? Amity, open your eyes. All they do is force you to be mean and powerful to others. What do they mean for the school's role models? Every basic student fears all elites because of the way they act, it's stupid!"
Amity quickly covered the teen's mouth. "Shh, lower your voice, idiot." She glanced around the place to see if anyone was eavesdropping.
Luckily, all elites focused on the discussion, and Amity and Luz were barely heard. After checking if they were clear, Amity pulled back her hand.
"Just... be quiet."
The freshman sighed. "Oh come on, we're way out here in the back, no one can hear us. Don't worry." She started with a sincere tone in her voice. "I know what you said about the elites was wrong, Amity. I know you also know that it's wrong."
"Beleive me please, what you and the elite system do is visible to the whole campus, not only it boosts your fame and recognition, but it also makes you a jerk that everybody fears."
The elite became speechless, not knowing what to reply. Amity hated to admit it, but she somehow agreed with what the freshman has told her, and yet, she never stated it.
She instead tried to ignore her, forcing herself to forget what the teen said. But even if she stood there silent, she couldn't help but speak to Luz again.
"F-fine." She stuttered, getting Luz's attention back.
"Huh?" Luz arched an eyebrow. "You finally came to your senses or what?" she continued.
Amity sighed. "I mean what you're saying is... actually true. For the first time, I agree with you in what you just said."
"Oh thank the stars you're not ignoring its flaws." Luz finally smiled. "If you agree with me, then why don't you tell them and stand up for what's right?"
"I can't, Luz. It's not that simple. If anyone is against the elite system's policy then the members themselves will make their life a living hell."
The freshman's eyes widened, thoughts wondering with disbelief. "W-what? Why isn't anyone against it? Well, there's gotta be someone in this system that knows what they're doing is wrong! Do all of you idiots enjoy this kind of attention and power?"
"Most of us, yeah. But I know some elites think the same way, too bad they only hide it to protect their club and themselves. "
A smile slowly formed on Luz's face. "I see, I'm not the only one trying to rebel against the machine."
"Rebel?" Amity asked, confused. "What do you mean? If they see you break any rules, not to mention the drama that happened back at the club, they have the power to demote you and expel you from this school!"
"And yet they won't expel me nor kill me if I'm not alone. Gathering the ones who's against it will bring attention. I don't care if they come from normal classes or the elites, we need to rally together."
"Listen to what you just said, that kind of doing will surely expel your butt, Noceda! Don't do some stupid rally especially the ones you're against are 50 times superior to you. Not to mention the upperclassmen attending it!"
"Geez, Amity." Luz facepalmed. "I know deep inside you that you agree with me. I know what you need."
"W-what?"
Luz smiled and placed her hand on top of Amity's. "You need to relax, get some time away from all the works, the stress, and the pressure you carry when you're with us on the club. I know that you just wanted to help us keep the school's title in the dancing career but come on, you gotta loosen up a bit, just... have fun."
Amity's eyes widened, especially the last part of Luz's offer. But instead of denying her offer as always, she suddenly had the urge to lean in and extend the conversation.
"R-really? And how could I do that? I'm filled with duties and matters to attend to every day, the only free time I have is when I finish my work early and when I sleep. "
Luz thought about it, she looked down at her watch and smiled. "Hm, do you have any plans right now besides this?"
"Now that I think of it, no. Only this meeting and our finalization of planning back at the club. Why?"
The short-haired teen irresistibly smiled. She placed all her belongings back in her bag before fixing her hoodie. The elite on the other hand continued watching her, being mesmerized.
"How about we go ditch these losers and hang out somewhere else, together."
The teen's eyes widened, her heart beating faster as her cheeks slowly turn red while in realization. She kept staring at Luz, unable to reply properly.
As much as Amity wanted to speak up her answer, she cant choose between breaking the rules or having fun just what Luz expressed.
She wanted this, she wanted to get away from all the stress and troubles for a while. But spending this opportunity with a freshman she hated was putting her into a hesitating state.
"I-" She stuttered, eyes still widened. "No. I can't, I never skipped any meetings nor classes! T-that would be like breaking the rules and-"
Luz interrupted. "Woah, calm down. I just asked you if you wanted to, I mean we could but I know you aren't up for it, as an elite and all but..." She paused, looking into the captain's eyes.
"I just wanted to see you smile and relax for a bit."
Once again, Amity was left speechless. The moment where Luz started to show her affection and concern towards the elite made Amity feel something she hasn't felt for a while. And yet, the anger she has for the freshman suddenly fades.
"Why? You sound like you actually care for me." Amity managed to stammer out while keeping an amused expression.
"I do."
"Y-you do?"
The freshman nodded. "Mhm, of course, I do! Look, I know we met with a pretty bad start and I accidentally destroyed the dance club but... All I wanted is a friend." She started with a weak smile.
"Friend?" Amity gasped, feeling a bit of disbelief. "I never needed one of those, Boscha is the only one I considered a-" She paused for a few seconds. "Friend?"
"See? Even you don't know what to call Boscha. She's been treating you wrong and I know you can also see it."
Amity sighed. "I know but, that's the way she is and... I actually admire her for it." She sweetly smiled, making the freshman make a fake disgusted face. "Oh come on, she's not that bad once you get along with her."
"Yeah, I doubt it." Luz laughed before looking down at her watch. A confident smile quickly formed on her face. "You know what they're talking about?" She hinted at the one representative discussing in the distance.
The elite nodded. "Yeah, they actually already taught us this, I just don't know why they're repeating the same lesson."
With that, Luz smirked and offered Amity her hand. "And this meeting ends for another hour so-" She added before kneeling to avoid being spotted by others.
"What do you say, Amity? Wanna ditch these losers and hang out with me? Let's show our rebelled side against this system!"
