{{Chapter 11}}
After class hours have ended, it gave the freshman little time to rush back to the dance club to settle the newly recruited members for its major 10.
While the other classrooms were yet to be dismissed, Luz immediately took the chance to sneak inside the club without gathering any attention from other students interested in the club.
Upon entering the room, she reached out her arm to her side, searching for the light switch to lit up the room.
Flicking up the switch triggered all the lights above her to open. And there she saw someone in the distance.
She glanced in their direction, only to see Amity seating near the stage. A smile formed on her face, waiting for the elite to exchange looks with her.
Sadly, Amity never looked back to the freshman. Luz arched an eyebrow, showing slight confusion.
"Didn't she hear the door open? Maybe I should call her-" She paused, taking another step forward to take a closer look at the elite. "Oh, she's wearing earphones. That explains it."
Luz sighed and continued walking towards her. "Hey, Amity, can you hear me?"
Amity sighed, ignoring Luz's greetings. Now that her reputation is destroyed, she couldn't help herself but avoid having contact with the girl who ruined it all.
"I know you can hear me."
Once again, no response from Amity. With this, Luz suddenly realized the chaos she created within the day.
The fact that she managed to destroy a whole club by driving its original casts away as well as destroying an elite's image had gotten into her. And what's worse about this is it all happened in one day.
The freshman accepted the fact that Amity would never reply. So with this, she sighed and placed her gym bag beside Amity, and sat down.
Just like Amity, she also took her own pair of earphones and plugged them into her phone. With a music freak like Luz, she took a few minutes before picking out the right song.
"It won't hurt to listen to my music while waiting for the others." She chuckled to herself before resting her head on the step behind her.
It may be awkward for the two to share this quiet moment, but Luz still hopes to hear a reply from Amity. But whenever she tries to speak, hesitation cuts her off.
"I have already done so much, talking to her just makes it worse, does it?" She asked herself, scrolling down her songs listed on her phone.
Since their class was dismissed early, Luz didn't wonder why Viney and the other members were late. She took the time to rest and come up with a plan for later's audition.
But her thoughts suddenly vanished when she felt something lean on her shoulder, her eyes widened at the touch, and yet she was afraid to move nor look back.
"W-what?" She muttered, slowly redirecting her gaze to the teen beside her. But when she realized her current situation, her eyes widened in shock.
"She... fell asleep?"
"Hey, Amity?" She tried to wake her up. "Wake up, idiot, I know you'll kill me once you wake up."
For Luz's current situation, she couldn't react nor push the elite back. "You seem tired?" She gently placed her hand in her cheeks.
The sight of Amity cutely sleeping on her shoulders eventually made the freshman's cheeks turn red.
"Heh, I bet you're just tired... It's actually weird to see you leaning this close to me." Luz started, directing her gaze to the door. "I hope nobody sees us."
The freshman slowly lifted her arm, rolling up its sleeve to reveal her wristwatch. A weak smile then formed afterward.
"We still have a few minutes before the other classes get dismissed. "I better let you rest, you had a tough day."
"We both did." She added in a weak tone.
She continued listening to her song as she tried her best to maintain her position to avoid waking up Amity.
It wasn't long after when tiredness tried to overcome the freshman. Despite all the shouting within the day, she was also as exhausted as Amity.
Her eyes started to slowly close, barely knowing it happening. The audio from her songs became inaudible.
Moments later, she fell asleep with Amity in her arms. The two teens were now resting, unaware that both were in each other's arms.
After a few minutes, the bell eventually rang for the other classes' dismissal. With the sound's continuous ringing, Luz was awoken by it.
"Argh, finally." She yawned and properly sat up. "I better wake Amity before we-"
"Before we what?"
Her eyes widened at the unexpected response. "Ah!" She turned to her side, only to see Amity rubbing her eyes.
Luz nervously chuckled. "Oh, you're awake, finally."
"Shut it, Noceda." The elite removed her earphones. "Why are you here? I supposed both our classes ended early, huh?"
"I guess so," Luz answered, pushing back her hair to keep a clean appearance. "You seem tired, want me to get you something?"
Amity arched an eyebrow at her. "How can you tell? You know, aside from burning my reputation and image as an elite on your first day in Hexside."
"It looks like you cried." Luz started, leaning a bit closer to Amity. " Plus the eyebags under your eyes."
When she was about to place her hand on Amity's cheeks to show her, the elite quickly slapped her hand away and turned around.
"Isn't it obvious? You ruined everything, Luz.!"
The freshman sighed, leaning on the step behind her once again. "I know, I messed everything up. But I'm trying my best-"
"Not only that, you don't have any achievements nor records of any dance history! All former members in the dance track have achieved many titles in their past school! It's required to show any evidence before Boscha can get you admitted."
"Well, Boscha's isn't here," Luz muttered. "Why does it really matter to you? I'm a fast learner! I promise I could fit right in if you give me a chance."
Amity gritted her teeth, trying to avoid letting her weakness from showing. "No, you don't understand! You, an untrained rookie, and some random underdogs cant carry this team!
As much as Luz wanted to avoid making another fight between the two, she calmly stood up and ignored the elite instead of defending herself.
Even if Amity only met her today, it seemed off that Luz doesn't reply nor fights back. Now that the tension between them started to grow bigger again, Amity couldn't help herself but chase after the freshman."
"Hey, I'm talking to you!" She yelled out as she took hold of Luz's hand. At that exact moment, their eyes met once again. And yet, Luz was shocked when she looked back at Amity's gaze. She wasn't angered like before, her eyes were showing reflections of fear.
"You made me look like a fool in front of my team, my future! You think it's so easy being a dancer. I have been working my whole life to get to the top! You ruined everything, you're not supposed to be here. Say it, say you're not a dancer!"
Luz shifted away from Amity's gaze as she took a few seconds to think of a response. Not long after, she knelt and took out her journal.
She then opened it on a specific page and handed it to Amity. There she saw notes and lectures about different forms and styles of dancing.
Luz silently chuckled, returning her gaze to the elite.
"I'm not a dancer."
With that response, Amity's eyes widened, hoping to hear the disbelief in Luz's voice. And still, she continued scanning her journal to avoid making any contact.
Luz weakly smiled and stood beside her, moving a bit closer to Amity to point at her lectures.
"But I'm training hard to be one," she added as her finger continued to show Amity her written works.
After finishing all the pages, Luz gently took her journal back from Amity's hands to place it back inside her bag.
"It may be true that I'm inexperienced and I only started to get into dancing three months ago. But I'm trying my best to catch up with the others." She started, turning around to face Amity.
"So it doesn't matter if I don't have any history of achievement in the dancing career. This is my dream, and I'm not giving up just yet. I swear I'll bring our team to National, I promise."
The elite stood silent, with Luz now showing her side, she wasn't able to reply nor fight Luz's proposal, Instead, she only stood silent as her anger started to slowly grow within her.
"How can you b-bring us when you're untrained, with only 1 week left before the qualifying matches, we can't make a new plan!"
Luz gritted her teeth and pulled her hand back. "Maybe you should stop thinking negatively, Blight. I know we can come up with something, just have some goddam faith."
"You can't just expect that we can pull off a show-stopping performance in a matter of 7 days, Luz! Face reality, we're gonna lose and this is all your-
At that exact moment, Luz suddenly snapped. With half of her anger overtaking her, she couldn't help herself but bring Amity into silence with all her nonsense.
With this, she quickly turned around and grabbed Amity by her shirt's collar, bring her closer to make her meet her eyes.
But when the two came in contact, Amity couldn't help but stare back at Luz's angered eyes. Was it toward the elite or was it about her not wanting to face reality?
"Why do you hate me so much?!"
Hearing Luz's broken voice made Amity's anger vanish. She was once again speechless and yet so shock to be encountering something like this again.
The two teens fell into silence. Luz was now bowing her head to avoid letting Amity see her being angered. For the elite, on the other hand, she didn't do anything, she only let Luz take control of her.
After a few seconds, Luz realized her actions. She quickly loosened both her grip onto Amity's shirt to release her.
She finally looked up and fixed the hair strands blocking her sight. Before she can speak up once more, the door was heard kicked open.
They directed their gaze to the entrance, and there they saw six teens rushing to get inside the room. After they managed to get in unsuspected from others, they turned their attention to Luz and Amity who were still in the same position.
"Luz, Amity! You're here." Augustus greeted.
Willow followed from beside. "What are you doing here so early? Our class just has been dismissed."
Viney laughed. "And trust us, it was hard sneaking into this place. Luckily, King managed to spread rumors about this place being closed for a while.
"Those fools can get so easily... well, fooled!" King cutely cheered, raising his fists in the air for celebration.
Luz managed to force out a smile as a response to all of them. Now that they were complete, Luz lastly nodded at Amity before walking towards her.
She leaned in closer to her ear. "Listen, I know you had a rough day, and I'm sorry. I really am. But please, get some rest, I'll handle this, I promise."
The touch of Luz's hands-on Amity's shoulder suddenly sent shivers down the girl's spine. Not only that, her cheeks began to slightly redden.
At this moment, Amity knew, Luz was really serious about fixing the mess she made. You can tell by how she looks at the elite and how she talks to her.
Amity just responded with a nod back, walking towards the benches to continue her rest like what Luz asked her to do.
After that, Luz quickly wiped away the worried expression shown on her face and replaced it with a cheerful one.
"Welcome back guys! Now that we're all here, we better start the auditions before school closes!" She greeted the others, leading them to the stage.
As the rest continued following the freshman, 2 teens continued watching them from the control room above.
They were seen to be hooded and unidentified because of the thick black glass covering the room, And yet, their visual upon the teens was clear.
One of them chuckled, flicking on the stage's light to help Luz lighten up the place. Sadly, no one ever noticed or wondered why it was suddenly flicked open.
"Hm, this year's gonna be fun."
