A small male teen stood in front of the crowd with his fist up in the air, showing a smirk fit for a self-proclaimed "King" like what he mentioned before.
The other students took the time to examine the boy. He was only about 4'10 in height and yet he still charged inside the room with such showmanship and bravery. With those two combined, you're more likely to be called an elite.
And that's what the recruits thought. Aside from his adorable appearance, the rest of the crew members only stared at him, showing slight confusion at his proudly-said statement earlier.
But for the teen behind him, she couldn't help herself but let out a loud squeal as she immediately rushed towards the boy.
"¡Ay, Que Lindo!" She shouted, pulling the stranger into a tight hug. "Who's this little guy? He's so tiny and adorable!"
The male teen's eyes widened, unaware of the current situation. "I'm not your little guy! I don't know who's your little guy!" He shouted back while trying to get away from Luz's tight grip.
Amity facepalmed herself, looking to the rest of her crewmates. It seems like they were sharing the same shocked yet amused reaction when they first saw Luz pull a stranger for a hug.
"He looks like an elite," Willow whispered to Augustus. "But he's so tiny and cute! There's no way that kid's one of them."
"He's not."
The two teens looked beside them after hearing a response. There they saw Amity with her arms crossed to her chest, still despising Luz's weird antics.
"I'm a part of the elite members in this school, which means I know all of the standing elite in all tracks." She started before turning around to face Gus. "And he's not in any of them."
The two only nodded and turned their attention back to the Luz and the boy who was still struggling to push her away
Aside from his height, his clothing also fitted him. A crown logo was printed on the front of his shirt as well with the words "Long live the king".
No wonder why the freshman quickly charged at him without any hesitation, he was too cute yet still a stranger to everyone, even his loud baby-like squeal was enough to make Augustus yell "aw"
After Luz finally pulled away from the hug, she nervously placed her hand behind her neck. "Oops, sorry about that, stranger! I just couldn't help myself from hugging such a cutie!"
"And... You do this to all the cute boys roaming around this campus?" The boy questioned while dusting her shirt.
The freshman chuckled. "Absolutely not! Some cute boys out there are mostly jerks. But I sense something different in you."
The boy sighed. "Well, I guess that was a weird yet warm welcome for me. But let me do my thing before class starts, alright?"
Luz nodded and stepped aside, letting the boy have enough space for a proper introduction. At that moment, Luz managed to catch Amity staring directly at her.
But when both their eyes came in contact, the elite quickly looked away, pretending nothing happened. The freshman didn't bother at first so she looked back at the one who calls himself "The king of teens."
The teen smirked. "Bow down to me weaklings, for I am King, a second-year and a soon to be elite!" He proudly yelled out as he stepped on his skateboard.
"Soon to be? I knew it, he's not one of them." Viney sighed in relief, making Jerbo and Barcus less nervous
Jerbo adjusted his shirt's collar. "Yeah, but he's hoping to be one. Be careful, he might become one of them in just a few days."
As soon as Luz realized that the boy he embraced was an upperclassman, her eyes immediately widened in both shock and embarrassment
"Oh my gosh, you're a second-year?! I'm so sorry Mr. upperclassman sir!"
King laughed. "Oh, pipe down will you? I bet you and I are just the same age. Tell me, weird girl that I only met today, how old are you?
"15, you?" Luz answered
"15. See? We're not so different after all. I just happen to advance in class because I always pass them."
Luz gasped in amazement. "Wow! I wanna be just like-"
"By cheating of course!"
After King continued his proud sentence, Luz's amazement faded into a plain reaction. "I should have known-"
"Anyways, I'm here to show you losers how much better this club can get if I become its elite." He started, turning to Luz. "Now tell me, wait, You haven't told me your name yet, weirdo, I haven't seen you in this club last year."
"Ouch, but okay. I'm first-year Luz Noceda from class 302, sir!"
"Sir..." The teen took a few seconds to think. "You calling me sir feels so powerful. Ah yes, as a second year, you may call me sir at all times, Haha!"
"Why though? You and Luz have the same age, there's no need for that." Augustus butted in.
The king was speechless, unable to respond to Augustus. "Well, I-" He stuttered. "Uhh, enough about that! Now tell me, Luz, why is a freshman like you doing here in the most cherished club in Hexside? Were the rumors really true?!"
"Rumors?"
"Yeah, everybody kept talking about the incident that happened a while ago. Well, that explains why they aren't here. "
The freshman snapped her fingers. "Oh! Are you talking about when all of the former members left? Yeah, that was kinda my fault..."
"Nonsense! The word got out so fast that literally, everybody wants to sign up for this club! But luckily for you, I re-wired all of the school's bells so that It can ring 30 mins from now. Yes! I'm so good!"
"You're quite a troublemaker, and it's so adorable!"
"I am not adorable!" He shouted, doing his "Squeak of rage" which just made the other teens adore him. "Stop that! That's the opposite of the reaction of fear!"
He cleared his throat, trying his best to ignore Luz behind him. "Anyways, we don't have enough time. So can I audition now or not?"
"We only have about 6 minutes left, all auditions will be presented later after classes."
King nodded and proceeded to look around the place, it was almost like he was finding for something or someone specific
"Wow, those jerks are really gone, huh? Well, except for her, I still remember you." He pointed a finger at a certain aquamarine-haired teen
Amity arched an eyebrow at him. "I should've known it was you. You were that kid who tried to audition last year."
"I'm flattered that you still remember me. You're the second elite right after Boscha, 2nd year, Amity Blight."
The elite smirked, displaying her reputation. "Wow, am I that popular in other clubs? I guess I'm that superior to the rest of these newbies."
"Oh God, here we go again." Luz facepalmed herself.
"Don't be too cocky, Amity. We all know that you are only the 2nd standing elite. And no, you aren't that popular as Boscha. I just like researching every elite in this school."
Amity crossed her arms. "Stalk much?"
"No, Since I'm gonna be an elite soon, I better be much more superior than the current standing elites. Just by knowing their weakness and strengths, I can take over the whole school just like a true king!"
"Now your place, little one." Amity calmly replied, sounding slightly angry
She then walked past King and Luz as she headed straight out of the room, leaving all of the new members back inside.
"Is she... Is she just gonna leave like that?" Luz asked.
Willow and Augustus only nodded to answer their friend's question, following the same direction Amity went afterward.
The dark-haired teen looked down at her watch. "We should better go, Luz. Class is about to start."
"Yeah, but King hacked into the school's-"
At that exact moment, the sound of multiple bells rang across the hallways which made Luz slowly turn her head to King.
"I thought you extended 30 more minutes?!"
King nervously chuckled and walked out of the room at a fast pace. "Well, I guess that didn't work. You guys better get to class right now before even more students apply! And trust me, you don't want to encounter them!"
Viney stepped up. "Yeah! Most students apply to their clubs at the first period, imagine how many students want to sign up for this club!"
"Adios, suckers!" King lastly yelled out before riding his skateboard to his next class.
"He's lucky I can't get mad at his adorable height." Luz grabbed her bag. "Alright, you guys meet us back here after classes! try your best not to get attention from other students that might want to join!"
"Can't we just let all of them join?" Jerbo asked while running towards the exit.
Luz shook her head. "I read the rules from the way here, it says that this track only requires 10 major members and some backup dancers, let's discuss this later!"
And with that, all teens ran in different directions after locking the gym doors. Luz lastly bid her farewells to her friends and some of the new members before running in the direction leading to her class.
Luckily, she was able to make it on time since the teacher was still not present inside the room. There she entered her assigned class, taking a seat near the window to take an extravagant view of the plaza outside.
She took the time to regain her breath, grabbing her journal after. Luz smiled and took a pencil to write down her first experience here at Hexside.
By that, she meant the tension and drama between her and Amity. Luz must admit, she never expected something like this would happen if she joins the dance club. She still felt bad for destroying Amity's reputation as well as making the whole cast of the dance crew disband in just a day.
"The past is in the past. I can still fix this. I just gotta stay calm."
Minutes later, the teacher finally entered the classroom which made everyone stop what their doing. Luz on the other hand was still being mesmerized by the beautiful view outside.
But inside her mind were thoughts about how to fix the mess she made. She was still guilty for all the mess she made, but what hits her the most is the look on Amity's face when she did her audition.
"Was she crying? What did I really do to make her feel that way?"
And that time, the dance crew cast was still together and everything was fine. But right at the start, Luz knew there was something off or different about Amity.
"I'm gonna fix everything, I'm gonna prove to you that being an elite is no different than being an "ordinary" student."
Suddenly, Luz's thoughts were interrupted when she heard her name being called multiple times. She then quickly turned around and saw the teacher and some of her classmates staring at her.
"Listen, kid, I still have a lot of kids to fail, so please, be attentive." The teacher leaned on her desk.
"Sorry, ma'am-" Luz was quick to reply, yet she paused on the last word to recall the teacher's name.
And yet it's hopeless, she couldn't remember nor recall her name. Luckily for her, the teacher was willing to introduce herself again.
"Alright, you little twats, let's do this nonsense again since not everybody is listening. Heck, I bet none of you are listening. But let's just do this because I really want that last piece of jelly donut back at the teacher's lounge and I'm NOT LETTING MY SISTER GET IT AGAIN-"
"Anyways, I am Edalyn Clawthorne, your wicked awesome teacher for this school year!"
