Chapter 12

Alex's P.O.V

"It's a bit too floral don't you think?" I ask my mom as she puts my now temporary brown hair into a tight ponytail. She wasn't kidding about the Hair Dye In A Can. My hair went from bright red to my natural hair color in seconds. The crazy things that people invent.

She sighs. "No. It looks good on you, now stop complaining." I roll my eyes putting on my wedges. If you haven't guessed it yet, mom and I are getting ready to have dinner with my mom's boss and her daughter. I don't know if you remember when my mom said we; as in all of us, were having dinner with her boss. What she meant was me and her. Why do I always get stuck in these situations?

I run my hands over the very pink and floral dress, not really my style in clothing. Then the doorbell rang. My mom claps her hands looking like a chicken with its head cut off. "Could you get the door? I need to get the pot roast out of the oven?" I nod walking to the door putting my phone into my bandeau. I open the door and see a lady with long blonde hair and blue eyes and a girl, about my age with blonde hair and brown eyes. "Hi. You must be Angie." I smile politely shaking hands with the older lady. She smiles back. "And you must be Alexandra. Nice to meet you. This is my daughter, Madison." I shake hands with Madison then let them in.

"Please make yourselves comfortable. Dinner will be done shortly." I smile yet again. I sound so...proper. I walk into the kitchen where my mom was and watch as she plates veggies, meat, and rice. "They are in the living room," I say as I get out our extra fancy champagne glasses. I pour red wine into Angie's and my moms' glasses and cherry cola into Madison and I's.

I help my mom serve the plate and we begin eating. We didn't say anything at first which was mad awkward turtle, but then Angie spoke up. "So Alexandra, your mom tells me a lot about you. What do you do?" She asks. I raise an eyebrow. "Um, right now I work as," I look over to my mom and she gives me the make-something-up look. "I work as an assistant photographer for Teen Vogue." It came out more like a question than a confident lie. She gasps in astonishment. "Really? Wow, I'm really impressed." She says smiling. I felt really bad for lying to her, so I shut my mouth and hoped she didn't ask me any more questions.

I made small talk with Madison and after two hours they left. I looked at my mom. "I'm very disappointed in you. You made me lie to her." I say crossing my arms like my mom would to me. "I know and I'm sorry. Hey on the bright side, at least she likes you." She smiles. I shake my head with a small smile. I hope I never have to go dinner with my mom and one of her friends again.
