Part 5 - Search
Alex let the team from the Secret Service to deal with whatever they could get their hands on the bag pack while he went upstairs to change. He forgot how the room was actually but as soon as he stepped in, the memories came back flooded his mind.
Blood was all over the floor of his bedroom and stained over the cream soft rug he had. The image of Henry on the floor clutching on his stomach and the sound of the gun exploded in the room became amplified in his head. Almost as if someone actually did let another bullet shot next to him and he could feel it right into his bones.
The shaking of his limbs overcome him as he fall on his knees and his chest was caught in a tight knot as he tried to pull another air to breathe. He pulled the air repeatedly so he could released this tightening feeling he had but failed. His hand gripped his chest tight as he felt the room getting smaller and his vision getting blurry.
"Alex!" Someone called his name but he couldn't be bothered to see who it was as he was still struggling with his breathing. "Alex, breathe." The person said. Wait, wasn't he? All he did was pulling air for breathing but nothing works. "Alex, listen to me, slowly." The person said and he couldn't get his gaze away from all the blood in front of him. He was already leaning against the wall of his bedroom with his legs sprawled on the floor while he tried catching his breaths.
"Alex, listen to my voice." The person came into the view, it was Bea, thank God it was her. Bea pulled him into the bathroom and have him sit on the toilet bowl with his head still trying to cope. She was searching through the cabinet when she cursed vulgar words. Not everyday anyone could hear princess cursed, it's against their etiquette. "He bloody took the fucking pills too! What a fucking psycho!" Bea cursed. She gripped her hair in her hand before she returned to panic Alex.
"Alex. I need you to focus." She said as she kneeled in front of him holding his wrist together. "Follow my breathing." She demonstrate inhaling through her nose and ask him to hold for seven seconds before exhaling through his mouth. She did it few times before she could see Alex finally calm down. "B-Bea." His voice croaked broken in tears.
"I know. I know. That's why I pulled you in here. This is not my first time handling panic attacks." She said and Alex nodded following her instruction till he finally calm down.
"Thanks." Alex said after he managed to come to his senses. She scoffed bowing down to his gesture while sitting on the floor leaning against the bath tub. "I had lots of experienced with a certain blonde that you might have in mind." She said and Alex stood, he took a seat next to her leaning against the bath tub next to her.
"I know Henry told you about my addiction part but did he tell you about his?" She asked and Alex stared at her shaking his head softly. "After dad died, everyone seems to be dealing with their grieve alone. Henry included. I have my own issue to deal with but Henry. He is a mess that boy. Gram thought that sending him back to school would be better off but he was a complete wrecked." She said and Alex waited, patiently for her story.
"He got into fights, get triggered easily and then - the sleeping part." She said. "Bless Pez and Shan for helping him keeping track on his pills or I think he would drowned in them. I think Gram thought he might be following my footsteps."
"But the one she didn't know is, Henry almost died due to his depression. Luckily we manage to cover up the story by hiding him. Me and Pez, by the way." She added. Alex eyes widen upon the word, depressed and almost died. How many times did Henry cheat death exactly and a certain thought of cats with nine lives came to his mind.
"He kept seeing Dad's face whenever he fell asleep. Not his handsome Bond face that you saw him over the tele. His end stage of life face. The part where cancer took over. The baldness, the harrowing hollowed cheek. The muscles that he used to had wasted away and left him with nothing but bones. Every single time he fell asleep, he would wake up screaming and that's when the panic attack begins." She continued, Alex sighed as he let her finished her stories.
"When he woke up screaming like that there's no one can help calming him down except for Pez and me. He needs a familiar face and that is why Pez asked him to join him during his gap year." Alex nodded knowing well what they did during Henry's gap year. Travel the world, helping people. "Although he might not have it as much as he did before but when he does, it would be absolutely devastating for you to handle. Especially now." Alex darted his eyes towards her with his eyebrow furrowed. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"The thought of blood in your room already making you this miserable, imagined seeing the bloody murderer's face." She said and Alex sighed again.
"You think I'm going to have panic attacks after seeing this fucking guy?" He asked and Bea only shot him a look with her eyebrow raised. "Aren't you?" She asked and Alex scoffed. "Watch me! I will make sure that bastard pay for what he did. He hurt Henry and ran, that coward!" Bea nodded before she stood holding out her hand and Alex grabbed it before he raised himself from their cold bathroom tiles.
Bea had to make sure Alex is okay so she stayed in their home for the night. Although it might be scary but she has David by her side keeping her company while Alex is stuck in the study room trying to find any possible clue he could in finding this bastard. They were later joined by Pez, Nora and June bringing pizza for dinner knowing well Alex isn't going to find time to eat but he took a bite and headed back to his study leaving them in living room.
Someone was fixing the door by the time Alex is done showering the next day and when he went to his dresser, he pulled out the empty dresser to find it empty. "That motherfucker!" He cursed and went to their walk in closet inspecting his suit one by one. "Fucking asshole!" He screamed and start rummaging through their things.
"What?" Bea asked as soon as she heard him cursed, "He stole everything. Our watch! My fucking suit! Henry's suit! His dad's, I mean your dad's cufflink, watches. EVERYTHING!" He cursed not realizing he repeated watches twice and slammed the wardrobe door. He kicked the chair that sat by the corner or his walk in closet out of his way.
"Well he is a thief, that's for sure but that narrows our search." She said as she grabbed her phone from her pocket and sat down on their bed. "What do you mean?" He asked still kicking the chair away from his way and it knocks the wall next to him. "Stolen good is easy to track when it reached pawn shop. So we found the item, we found him." She said and showed Alex her phone screen that has google maps of location pawn shop that in the area, possible hundred miles off but they don't want the search be minimal.
"Let's go then." Alex said and Bea nodded before grabbing her pursed downstairs and gave the list of screenshot to one of the Secret Service. "More hands, less times." She said and Alex agreed. So she sent another screenshot to Pez and asked him for help as well which he did gladly with the help of Nora and June.
"How did you know?" Alex asked as they walked to the first pawn shop they found which is closest to Alex and Henry house. "When you're desperate for cash and refused to use your family's money, you have to sell whatever you have on you." She said and Alex understood well. It was during her cocaine addiction, surely she must have sacrificed a lot of family heirloom so they won't track her money going to a dealer.
The bell chimed as they walked into the first pawn shop and it's filled with stuffs rating from the cheapest to the most expensive. "Can I help you folks?" The guy behind the counter asked. Bea approached him with a smile on her face hoping he won't recognized her. "I was just wondering maybe someone came and pawn few items to you recently? Probably today, yesterday or the day before that?" She asked and the guy nodded.
"There is, what you had in mind?" He asked and Alex interrupts. "Any suits, watches or maybe a ring?" He asked and the guy said there is a ring and asked them what the ring looks like and Alex showed him his. The guy shook his head and apologized for not having the item in his store and they both thanked him back before walking out in despair.
It was the fifth store when Alex needed a break. He leaned against the wall and Bea doesn't like seeing him like this. He must be exhausted not too mention he hasn't slept and barely eats so she decides to pull him into one of the diner across the street selling American pies.
"Bea I'm not hungry, I just need a minute." He said after Bea pushed him into one of the booth. "The hell you are." She said as soon as she sat right in front of Alex and take out her jacket and placed them next to her seat. She was reading through the menus when the waitress came and offered them coffee and Alex nodded.
"I've always wanted to try eating pies American style." She said as she went through her selection. Alex was rather occupied mixing sugar into his coffee. "I think I will have the butter pecan, how about you Alex?" She asked and Alex sighed rubbing his temple, "No thanks." He answered handing the waitress the menu. "He will have the classic American pancakes, thank you." She said handing her the menu and she walked off leaving them both for now.
"You're persistent." Alex said as he watched Bea fixing her hair up into a ponytail. People won't recognized her would they, he thought. "As if you don't know me already. Come on Alex, you think you're the only one persistent in the family?" She asked and Alex snickered a laughed.
His smile disappeared when the waitress brought the pancake in front of him and placed them right under his nose. Pancakes, syrup, Henry. He eyed the monstrosity covered with syrup and blueberry on the side and his thought immediately went to Henry and their morning before he proposed. "I can't do this." He said and grabbed his jacket and left the diner, leaving Bea alone.
She immediately rushed out and leaving the waitress some American dollars on the table, which she didn't realized exactly how much, but she thinks the waitress deserved it, being royal doesn't make you instant pauper by giving extra to people.
"Alex," she called as soon as she found him by the corner of the diner pressing his palm over his chest. "I'm sorry, is everything okay?" She asked as she stroke his shoulder to ease him. "I'm sorry, it's just, it's too much." He said and Bea's lip formed into one line. She let him catch a breath first before he decides to tell her, if he wishes too.
"The morning I proposed. We uhm- we had pancakes." He said and Bea felt like a jerk for putting him through another trauma. He told her how the proposal was supposed to be but Henry ended up finding the ring instead and all went differently, not according to his plan. He remembered how Henry licked the syrup from his chin and their kisses. He spared her the story not wanting to share every single intimate moment he has with Henry to everyone even though she is family.
"Shall we go and see him? I can let the Secret Service deal with the rest of the pawn shop." She said and Alex nodded. There is nothing more that he wanted to do other than seeing Henry but he also wanted to catch this person. He can't get his thought straight so he just went with Bea to see Henry.
As they walked into the hallways of the hospital, the memories flashed through his mind. The night he brought Henry, how lost he feel when he arrived and everyone is at each other's throat trying to save Henry's life.
As they walked into the ICU, Henry slides the door to the side finding a nurse doing Henry's vitals. He smiled at the nurse as he enter followed by Bea behind him. "How is our Prince today?" He asked as he went to Henry side and kissed him on his cheek. He still look the same as he was yesterday. Pale and dusky.
"Mummy?" Bea gasped and only then Alex turned finding the Queen's daughter sat elegantly behind them on the couch. "Hi love." She said as she stood and gave her a hug. Alex too stunned to speak just stand there in shock unable to find any word to say to her. He wanted to say he is sorry but he also feared that Princess Catherine would have his neck for making her favorite son in this situation. There is no denying that Henry is her favorite son cause she always loves to brag about Henry and proud of him for standing up for himself.
But all of his fear disappeared after Catherine decides to hug Alex instead. She wrapped her arm around his waist and Alex could smell the expensive perfume on her. "Wha-?" He muttered and Catherine pulled him away so she could have a proper look at him. "I couldn't imagine if the role is reversed, your mother is hugging Henry or blamed him would you?" She said and it broke Alex. She was right, if the role is reversed, he wouldn't want his mother to blame Henry for anything that happened.
"My son loves you, he is fighting there for you. But Alex-" she said stroking his arm up and down. "You need to take care of yourself too sweetheart. You don't want Henry to find out that you haven't been taking care of yourself won't you?" She asked and Alex nodded finding his place right into her hug again.
"Where's Phillip?" Bea asked as they sat on the couch together with Alex by Henry side holding his hand. "He'll be here from Germany soon, I think. He has some business to deal first." She answered and Alex could hear Bea scoffed. "Some business, your brother almost died and you're doing diplomatic first. Ass~"
"Bea!" Alex reminded her how Henry would hate if she talks badly about their elder brother no matter countless time so. Alex's hand held Henry's as they always do but it felt foreign to do so knowing how every single touch that he made, Henry didn't respond back.
An hour later, Alex excused himself and needed to take a walk letting Bea and her mother talk. He just feel Bea needed sometime alone with her brother and Alex gave her that space.
As he walked around the garden it reminds him a lot on their first kiss. Underneath the fireworks of New Year, the cold hitting his skin and how Henry kisses has yet warmed him. He was interrupted by his phone rang and when he looked, it was Nora so he answered.
"Sorry Alex, we tried. None of them could find any single piece of item that belongs to either you or Henry." She said, she was on speaker with June and Pez as they divided their team into finding this person. He sighed rubbing his temple as he sat on the bench. He looked up the trees and sky hoping Henry was here with him but he knows better. "Thanks you guys, I appreciate the help." He replied and disconnected the call.
The thing about Alex, he loves doing things by his own. But Bea did suggest that they need all hands on deck so they could to find this guy which he did. He let them help but still he was at moot point. He was rather interrupted by someone walked next to him and he didn't have time to react when the person approached. "Can we talk." The person asked.
