Chapter 9 - Jaundice

Hey guys! Firestorm here with a new chapter for you all. RWBYK has gotten a lot of love and to think I'm not even halfway through the series yet.

Also, this story will be never ending as long as the RWBY series continues, so will this story. Don't have much else to say so onto the story!

(Opening Theme: Unleash the Power - Finley)

A Few Weeks Later...

There was a class of combat currently being shown. A light was staged in a lecture hall meant for PvP combat. While the area surrounding the two fighters was dark, the audience could see the action clearly.

Jaune was up against none other than Cardin Winchester, leader of Team CRDL (Cardinal). He had burnt-orange hair that was combed backwards with a slight peak at the front and indigo eyes. He wore silver-gray armor with gold trim. The chest-plate sported a bird with its wings outstretched. Underneath the armor, he wore a black shirt with red trimmings and black pants with a red belt tied around his waist. It should also be noted that Cardin was very tall. He stood at least a head above the rest of his teammates. Cardin stood with his large mace perched on his shoulder, and Jaune, opposite him with his own weapon out, leaned on his weapon, exhausted, in the spotlight shining on the Beacon Academy auditorium stage where duels were held.

From the moment that the Ky laid eyes on Cardin's group, he could tell that the team members were all your stereotypical muscle heads that thought that they were on top of the world just because they had big muscles, fancy armor, and big weapons. More than that, Ky had seen how Cardin and his teammates treated a few of the other students quite a few times in between classes, and to say that he was not pleased with what he had witnessed would be like saying that the sun was a little warm; a very severe understatement. The guy was a big bully, and his teammates were not much better, following him around and doing everything he told them to do like it was no big deal. Since Ky had never been a fan of bullies in general, no one was surprised to see that him were both glaring at Cardin just as heatedly every time he fell into the bluenette's line of sight. His bad attitude aside, Cardin must have possessed some level of skill as a huntsman-in-training to be allowed into Beacon, and unfortunately, Jaune was currently getting a first-hand display of those very skills.

Jaune looked at Cardin, who laughs at his opponent's tiredness. Gathers his strength, Jaune charged forward and swung his blade at Cardin, only for him to jump out of the way.

Jaune looks back, surprised, as Cardin's mace sends Jaune's shield, and himself, flying back. Now only armed with his sword, Jaune continued to try and attack, but is blocked by the mace's hilt. Their weapons locked, Cardin forces himself up, towering over a struggling Jaune.

"This is the part where you lose, squirt." Cardin mocked with a smug grin. The blonde growls at him.

"Over my dead—"Jaune retorted, but he never got the chance to finish as Cardin suddenly kneed him in the crotch, taking all wind out of Jaune's sails, and making him drop to the floor in pain, while every other male watching this all winced in sympathy for the blonde.

"Cheap shot," Ky grumbled, not liking the use of such underhanded, below-the-belt tactics, even if he could admit that they were sometimes beneficial. The only thing he liked even less was how Cardin was now raising his mace above his head like he was getting ready to crush Jaune's skull, and he likely would have rushed in to help had it not been for the fact that for one thing, he would have gotten into trouble for interfering, and for another thing, someone else managed to stop him before he could swing.

"Cardin, that's enough," Glynda admonished over the buzzer that had just sounded while the lights around the arena all came back to their normal level of brightness. When Cardin did not stand down right away, Goodwitch shot him a glare that just dared him to try and challenge her further, prompting the boy to finally back down and step back. Seeing that the combatants were now calmed, Glynda looked to the rest of the class and began her quick lecture. "Students, as you can see, Mr. Arc's Aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament style duel, this would indicate that Jaune is no longer fit for battle, and that the official may call the match."

Jaune remains laying on the floor in defeat, with Pyrrha looking sad as Glynda turns to him. Taking out his Scroll, it showed a gauge, as well as portraits and gauges of him and his team. While everyone else's gauges were green, his was in the low red.

"Mr. Arc, it's been weeks now. Please try to refer to your Scroll during combat. Gauging your Aura will help you decide when it's appropriate to attack, or when it is better to move to a more... defensive strategy. We wouldn't want you to be gobbled up by a Beowolf, now, would we?" She scolds him.

"Pfft, speak for yourself." Cardin mumbles as he walked off and out of sight.

Ky continued glaring at Cardin, before muttering, "Just give me one minute in the ring with him...Five, if I'm feeling merciful..."

Thankfully, all thoughts of ways that the teen could make Cardin pay for his bullying was put out of his mind when Goodwitch called for everyone's attention again. "Remember everyone, the Vytal Festival is only a few months away! It won't be long before students from the other kingdoms start arriving in Vale, so keep practicing! Those who choose to compete in the combat tournament will be representing all of Vale."

The bell rings, and students start to leave. Pyrrha continues to frown sadly. Ky walked over to Jaune, who was looking in downcast, and held his hand out to him. He looked up and saw Ky smiling solemnly at him. "Come on, bud. Let's get you some lunch."

He sighed before he grabbed it, and Ky helped him up. The bluenette gave a him reassuring pat on the side of his shoulder, as they walked out.

"So, there we were, in the middle of the night...," Nora creepily said to the gathered group of twelve.

"It was day," Ren corrected like clockwork, despite the fact that he knew Nora would continue like he had not spoken. This was a pattern that they held for every story that Nora told for the longest time, and it was going to remain the same with this one.

"We were surrounded by Ursai..."

"They were Beowolves."

"DOZENS OF THEM!"

"Two of 'em."

"But they were no match, and in the end, Ren and I took them down, and made a boatload of Lien selling Ursa skin rugs."

"Wait, how would that even be possible? Don't all Grimm just disintegrate into ash or something after they're killed," Ky questioned, being the first out of the rest of the gang to get a word in since Nora was asked to tell this story.

The blunette's question went unanswered, as Ren just simply sighed and explained, "She's been having this reoccurring dream for nearly a month now."

Everyone who had actually been paying attention could only nod in sympathy with Ren's plight, while most of the rest only did so to show that they had been paying at least a little bit of attention to the conversation. It did make for quite the interesting lunch gathering after all, but then again, it was like that for every other lunch period that Teams RWBYK and JNPR had shared, which was nearly all of them. While Nora told over exaggerated stories that Ren corrected, the others either listened in on the ginger haired girl's extravagant tale as they ate, or found other things to do while paying the smallest amount of attention to the story, if any at all. Take today for instance; Blake was deeply engrossed in one of her almost omnipresent books while another with her notes rested beneath her hand, Yang was listening to Nora's story, and Weiss was currently filing her nails a little.

The only things that were out of the ordinary for them at the moment, were the three team leaders and Pyrrha, as Jaune merely picked at his food with a fork, while Ruby, Ky, and Pyrrha all looked at him with varying degrees of worry on their faces. You could not really blame any of the three for worrying about Jaune, as said blonde was still looking really down about how his match that day had gone. The fact that his match was against Cardin was not really helping matters either, as everyone on all three teams had taken notice of how the bigger, more armored boy had been bullying Jaune ever since the school year had started. Having your one chance to fight back against someone pushing you around like that basically thrown in your face would leave anyone in a pretty sad mood, and needless to say, Jaune's partner and friends were really starting to worry about him.

"Jaune, are you okay?" Pyrrha finally asked.

"Huh?" Jaune asked, having been too caught up in his dismay to realize that someone had spoken to him right away. When he looked to see the concerned faces that three of his friends were giving him, he quickly dropped his fork so that he could try to put up a more positive front and replied, "Oh, yeah! Why?"

"It's just that you seem a little...not okay," Ruby worriedly answered. She had been so put-off by Jaune's current demeanor that she had hardly even touched the plate of cookies she had gotten earlier, and anyone who knew Ruby would be able to tell you just how big of an indicator that was to her concerns regarding anything in a given moment.

"Not to mention that you haven't really eaten all that much yet, or said anything since Combat Class," Ky pointed out, feeling that it would not hurt to be a little blunt on the matter.

Hearing the two speak up got the attention of everyone sitting at the table, but the concerned looks of his friends only seemed to make Jaune a bit more defensive. "Guys, I'm fine. Seriously, look," the young knight insisted before giving them a small smile and a nervous laugh.

It did not need to be said how believable Jaune's attempt at reassurance was, but Ky still said it anyway. "Dude, I could've made a better fake smile than that, and that's really saying something."

Soon the sound of obnoxious laughter grabbed everyone's attention. Upon turning to the source, everyone at the table either frowned or glared at the sight of Cardin and his team picking on a Faunus student with long rabbit ears, while constantly cutting off her attempts to get away from the four bullies. Blake and Jaune's glares were easily two of the harshest, but even theirs compared little to the intensity behind the look that Ky was throwing in Cardin's direction, specifically, and everyone could easily guess why. Ky had not made it a secret as to how little he liked bullies, that he ended up being the one that everyone felt the need to hold back.

Seeing the way Cardin and his friends were acting to their most recent target, along with the way that Jaune was glaring at the leader of Team CRDL (Cardinal), was what helped Pyrrha get back to the matter that they had been discussing before the brief interruption for Lea's story. "Jaune, Cardin's been picking on you since the first week of school," the redhead bluntly stated, hoping that would get Jaune to open up about his problems a little. She was wrong.

"Who? Cardin Winchester? Nah...He just likes to mess around, you know? Practical jokes," Jaune tried to play off, even if he knew that none of his friends would buy it.

"He's a bully," Ruby and Ky both corrected as one, the girl of the duo scowling at the fact, while the boy had the added edge of a growl to his voices with his scowl.

"Oh please. Name one time he's 'bullied' me," Jaune challenged.

"We'll do you four times better," Ky accepted, raising a finger up as he and his friends listed off the aforementioned times. "The morning of initiation, he tripped you and made you spill your food all over yourself..."

"Which I'm guessing was how that smudge got onto the paper you wrote your locker number down on." Yang reasoned out.

"He knocked your books out of your hands when you passed by him in the hall once," Ruby continued on.

"He activated your shield as you were going into the classroom so that you would get stuck in the door," Ky listed off, now having three fingers raised, and ready to bring up the fourth one with the last thing, provided by a certain dark haired girl.

"And I doubt anyone is going to forget how he not only shoved you into your rocket-propelled weapon locker, but also launched said locker while you were still in it," Blake finished.

Everyone was silent upon hearing the completion of said list, though the ones who were somehow only just now hearing about the last one looked at Jaune with a great deal of worry. Even Weiss was frowning in concern for him, and she had not really been too eager to give Jaune the time of day after her first impression of the boy, but despite all of this concern being directed at him, Jaune did not seem to really register how worried he was really making his friends by continuing to act like it was nothing. "I didn't land far from the school," Jaune tried to insist.

"No, just far enough for you to be half an hour late for Professor Oobleck's class," Ky recalled.

"That explains so much," Weiss muttered, recalling how out of breath and disheveled Jaune looked when he finally made it, and how he smelled like the fumes that came from the rockets on their lockers.

"Jaune, you know if you ever need help you can just ask," Pyrrha tried to reassure her partner.

"OOH! We'll break his legs," Nora eagerly suggested, her smile a disturbing mix of sinister and excited when she did.

"No," Ruby shot down not even a second after Nora had said that, " It doesn't matter if he deserves it or not. If we sink to his level, then we'd be no better than him."

"Meh, not if we make it look like an accident," Ky suggested.

"Ruby's right, you guys. It's fine, really," Jaune added in, hoping that his two cents would keep this from getting too out of hand. "Besides, it's not like he's only a jerk to me; he's a jerk to everyone."

"That doesn't make it better," Ky argued.

"Ooww, that hurts," someone suddenly shouted, prompting everyone to turn to where Cardin's team was at once again. Almost as though the universe was proving both Ky's and Jaune's points, the team saw that Cardin was now pulling on the ears of the rabbit Faunus he and his friends were cornering, while she attempted to get away to no avail, much to his teammates' amusement. "Please, stop," the girl pleaded.

Cardin just ignored her, and looked to his friends as he said, "I told you it was real!"

"What a freak," his teammate, Russel mocked as he and the others continued to laugh.

As he watched the bullies continue picking on the girl, Ky could feel his anger growing with every second, as the two teams continued watching as the girl finally managed to pull away, only to end up having Cardin's other teammate, Dove pull her back by her lunch tray. "Hey, how big a family do you have anyway," Dove inquired.

"It's probably massive enough to the point where the neighbors are always calling someone about a rodent infestation" Sky, the last member of Team CRDL remarked with a mocking grin.

When the girl finally pulled away again, she failed to realize that Cardin had made his way around her and stuck his leg out, until after she had tripped over said leg and fell to the floor, her tray of food splattering everywhere and making her landing much messier. When she sat up again, it looked like she was on the verge of tears, and all Team CRDL could do was continue laughing. That proved to be a mistake, as they had unknowingly just set off a beast within Team RWBYK.

"Screw it! I can't just sit here anymore," Ky finally snapped as he jumped up and started making his way over.

"What's he doing?" Weiss asked surprised.

Yang smiled. "Looks like our Key-Boy is going to put a stop to it, and we got front row seats."

Both teams could only watch after the boy as he moved in to retaliate against the bullies, with only Ren being able to comment on the matter. "Suddenly, I don't know whether to feel sorry for those guys or to be worried about them."

"I'd go with neither. Like I said, they've got this coming," Nora replied, her grin now back on his face again.

"Still, getting all worked up like that over one Faunus girl?" Weiss asked, sounding unusually cold, even for her.

"Would it be any different if she weren't a Faunus?" Blake asked, her tone baring a few traces of anger when she spoke.

"Doesn't seem that way to Ky," Ren spoke up.

Pyrrha the spoke up, "I feel that Ky may very well be justified, myself. Cardin's behavior just now was atrocious." She then glared down at her plate as she added, "I can't stand people like him."

"He's not the only one," Blake pointed out, her glare showing that she completely agreed with Pyrrha's opinion.

Back with Cardin, he was about to move in and torture the poor girl some more, when he was suddenly pushed back towards his friends. Looking to who had gotten in his way, he was met with the sight of Ky helping the girl up to her feet and began helping her to better clean up the recent mess.

"Sorry you had to put up with that from those guys," Ky said to the rabbit Faunus. "Are you okay?"

The girl was shocked. Normally it would only be her team that stuck up for her like this. "Y-yes. Thank you," She nervously replied as she finally gathered the last of her things. "You didn't have to do that."

"Someone had to, and I wanted to help," Ky insisted with a friendly smile. "Name's Ky Virtus. What's your name?"

" O-Oh, my name is Velvet Scarlatina.'

Ky grinned. "Well Velvet, why don't  you go sit with my friends? They're a good bunch of people. While you do that, I'll have a few words with these guys."

Velvet looked at Ky still completely shocked. 'Is he... really standing up for me?'

She grabbed her stuff and left. At this point, Ky turned his attention back to Cardin and his team with a glare.

XXXXXXXXX

With Teams RWBYK and JNPR

Velvet was unsure what to do as she looked from Teams RWBYK and JNPR to the exit. "Maybe I should just leave."

Then Nora shouted. "Hey, get over here!"

She looked at the table in disbelief.

"Take a seat with us!" Yang added waving her over.

She walked over and took Ky's seat. Velvet looked at those gathered around and saw that everyone had turned their attention back to Ky and Team CRDL. She turned to the courageous young man that had helped her as well.

XXXXXXXX

With Ky

"You guys should be helping innocent people, but instead you are cruel to them." Ky growled. "People like you give Hunters a bad name."

"What did you say, you little punk!?" Dove challenged.

Ky would have answered, had Sky not realized who they were talking to first. "Hold on, isn't he that weirdo with the different eye color and the key-shaped swords?"

"Yeah, Team RWBYK," Russel recalled with a mocking grin. "Although, they should've called you Team Stupid, since you've got the stupidest weapons ever."

"They may not look like much, but we'd still take the Key-Blades over the pieces of junk I've seen you guys use any day of the week," Ky shot back.

"You want to run that by me again, punk?" Russel challenged.

"Oh, my bad. That was rude of me," Ky apologized with a smile, sounding surprisingly sincere as he stood up to better address the four, once he assured the girl he would just be a moment. His reason for doing so was revealed when he added, "He should have used smaller words or at least put it in a way that you guys could understand. Let me try and translate." He then cleared his throat and started talking in a manner similar to a caveman. "Blades good, very good. Stupid sticks you use bad. You dumb."

While Ky's friends all either grinned, made some feeble attempt to suppress their laughter, or just outright laughed without a care along with all the other students that were observing the confrontation, Cardin and his team just got angrier, until Cardin got almost right up in Ky's face. "Are you making fun of us!?" he demanded.

Ky did not answer, but instead looked at Cardin in amazement as he gasped, "Oh wow! A bully who's so stupid he doesn't even realize when someone's giving him a taste of his own medicine!" He then looked over at his friends. "Hey Yang, have you ever seen something like that?"

"Hmm, no, I don't think so. I was actually about to ask you if you have!" Yang commented with a mocking grin of her own.

"Nope, this is a first for me, too," Ky replied, as he continued on with their joke, riling up Cardin even more. Seeing that, Ky switched back to his glare as he asked, "Doesn't feel so good to be on the other end, does it?"

"You know what else isn't going to feel good? Your face after I've planted a fist into each of them," Cardin growled.

"Please. You'd be more likely to hurt yourself doing that. Honestly though, I'm surprised that you don't already hurt yourself on those subpar pieces of metal that you call armor," Ky retorted. "Guess that would explain why you need your buddies to help you gang up on someone. You're too scared to try and pick on someone your own size by yourself. It would makes since that you're afraid to fight someone that matches the size of your brain. Then again...I'm pretty sure everyone here is bigger than that. Actually makes me wonder how you ever got into this school in the first place."

Now Cardin was pissed. "You want to start something with me, you little punk? Fine! I'll take you on right here, right now!"

Cardin went for a hard right, but Ky deflected it by pushing on the arm. Cardin was sent spinning around until he fell to the ground again.

"I think you owe Velvet an apology for pulling on her ears. Why don't you go give it to her, and we can end this whole debacle before it goes any farther."

Cardin got to his feet and scoffed. "I don't apologize to filthy animals."

Ky raised an eye brow. "So, you're calling yourself filthy?"

"What!?" Cardin asked confused.

"I'm just saying, Faunus and Humans are all part of the animal kingdom. In a way we're all animals. This means you actually just insulted everyone including yourself." Ky stated.

Cardin cracked his knuckles. "So, you think you're some hot shot because you could fought Nikkos girl, yet lost. But the only hot shot around here is me. I think you need some help to learn this fact."

Ky sighed and shook his head. "Someone has high opinion of themselves." He chuckled. "I mean come on, even Aptus isn't that full of himself." He ducked avoiding a jab. "...And that's saying something. By the way, I never once thought I was better than everyone. That's all you."

Cardin charged at the bluenette, but Ky simply stepped to the side. "You claim your the top dog." The leader of team CRDL turned around attempting a right hook, but Ky slammed a palm into the bully's arm sending Cardin to the ground once more. "But your bite is less than your bark."

Cardin got to his knees and angrily shouted at his team. "What are you idiots just standing around for!? Get him!"

Cardin got to his feet only for a leg to shoot out nailing him in the gut. The leader of CRDL was sent flying until his back impacted with the pillar. Ky then moved his head to the right dodging a fist which sailed by his head.

Before it could retract, Ky grabbed the arm throwing a surprised Dove over his shoulder. The member of Team CRDL slammed into the ground. Russel and Sky came at Ky from the left and right.

They were each gearing up for a punch. Ky suddenly flashed away, at just right moment, onto the table, making it so they hit each other. Both members of CRDL fell to the ground on top of one another.

"Oooo, that's gotta hurt." Ky winced as he looked down at the two. "You guys should look before you leap."

Russel was quick to recover and jumped onto the table. He launched a quick flurry of punches at Ky. They were still easy enough for him to dodge as he moved left, right, and back. The bluenette saw the pattern easily, catching both fists.

He could have slammed Russel into the ground, from the table, but that felt wrong considering the poor guy was just helping his team. Instead, Ky got in close and slammed a palm into The CRDL member's stomach.

Russel fell to his knees, clutching his stomach, while Cobalt stepped off the table. Cardin charged in attempting to strike a powerful blow by cupping his fists together. Ky pivoted to the right avoiding the strike.

He then clenched his fist and slammed it into Cardin's gut. "I bet he's wishing he had his armor on."

Cardin crumbled to the ground as Sky and Dove took another shot charging in from the same direction, straight for Ky. The bluenette lunged forward planting a kick into Dove's stomach. The young man was sent crashing into Russel who'd just recovered and hoped off the table.

Sky attempted a jab only for Ky to stop the fist. "Three strikes and you're out!" He then brought Sky close and lifted him above his shoulders before judo-flipping said student into the ground. All of Team CRDL rose once more, but Sky and Dove seemed on the verge of running.

Ky shrugged. "Cardin, I'll say this. You guys should really work on your aim."

Cardin was red in the face completely furious at being shown up by some random guy that somehow got into the school. "Shut up!"

"Well, I guess it's time for Round 2." Ky got ready to fight once more until Glynda appeared at the doorway with another student behind her

Clearly, the Deputy Headmistress was not happy. "Team CRDL and Mr. Virtus, you are to report to my office immediately!"

Cardin smirked at Ky figuring this was the perfect chance to get back at him. "He thinks he can make a fool of a Winchester. I'll show him. I'll get him expelled for this stunt."

Ky simply shrugged and stuck his hands in his pockets, already making his way over to Glynda.

XXXXXXXXX

With Team RWBY (-K), JNPR, and Velvet

Everyone had turned back around, and to their surprise, it was Blake who spoke first. "We need to go to her office and make sure Ky doesn't get in trouble for this."

Yang was the most surprised out of everyone. "Whoa partner. I don't think any of us expected you of all people to say that."

"It wouldn't be fair for him to get in trouble. He was only defending a fellow student." Blake firmly stated.

"Ruby looked around the table. "Team RWBYK, JNPR, and Velvet, move out! Operation Save Ky is a go!"

Ren then turned to Ruby. "Everyone needs to calm down."

Pyrrha nodded. "Ren's right. I don't think Professor Goodwitch would enjoy a bunch of kids barging into her room."

Yang stood up. "It's still decided that we go and help him, so let's go."

They all stood up and walked out of the cafeteria.

XXXXXXXXXX

Glynda's Office

Glynda was projecting a terrifying presence as she led CRDL and Ky into her office. "Mr. Winchester and Mr. Virtus, you two will sit in the chairs. You three boys will stand against the wall. If I need your input, then I'll ask."

Everyone did as they were told with her taking the seat across from the two boys. "Mr. Winchester, you first."

Cardin smiled and nodded. "Thank you Professor Goodwitch. It's simple. Me and my team were graciously helping a fellow student when Ky came up to us and started a fight. I started off fighting him alone, but my team couldn't stand by. They couldn't let their leader fight by himself. They joined in trying to get him to calm down. That's it."

Ky had taken the opportunity to look at Cardin's team, who seemed more than okay with the story. 'Bunch of pansies.' He thought lightly shaking his head.

Glynda looked at Cardin skeptically before her gaze shifted to Ky. Again, he noticed that odd look he couldn't really place, but it quickly assed as she became stern once more.

"Mr. Virtus, what is your side of the..." Glynda began only to stop as her door was thrown open.

Nora came marching in. "My client is innocent. You can't hold..."

"Nora, we said we were going to do this calmly." Ren stated as the rest of RWBYK, JNPR, and Velvet entered the room.

Nora went back to stand next to her partner. "Sorry Ren."

Glynda looked at the other children. "What is the meaning of this?"

"Wow, she is scary." Jaune gulped. "Uhm, well... W-We came because we feared..."

Yang stepped forward. "We're here because we though Cardin might lie about what happened." She brought Velvet forward. "We even brought the one they were picking on with us, so she could give her side of the story."

Glynda looked at Velvet surprised to see her. "Ms. Scarlatina?"

Velvet bowed. "Professor Goodwitch, Ky came to my defense when Cardin and his team were harassing me."

Ruby nodded. "All of us can verify this. We saw it happen."

Cardin was angry once more. "They're all lying to cover for their friend, ma'am!"

Glynda held up her hand silencing Cardin before turning to Ky. "Mr. Virtus, is what they've true?"

"Every word. I believe in doing what is right. I will always do as such. I will defend. I saw discrimination, so I moved to stop it. I saw Cardin bullying Velvet, so I acted starting the fight."

Glynda sighed and nodded. "I am sorry to take up your time Mr. Virtus. You did a wonderful thing and are free to go."

"That's..." Cardin began angrily.

Again, Glynda held up her hand. "That will be enough Mr. Winchester. You discriminated against your fellow classmate and lied about the situation. Your conduct is unbecoming of a Hunter, and it's only the first day of classes. You and your team now have detention, for a full week, starting next week."

Ky got up as his friends all filed out of the room. He noticed that Cardin was glaring at him, but what was one more enemy among the list of enemies he already had. The dual-wielder just turned away and strode out of the room following everyone else out.

Beacon, Hallway

"Well, this has been an eventful day so far." Ky stated as he closed the door to Glynda's office.

Jaune let out a breath. "That professor is one scary lady."

Ky looked at his teammates and put his hands behind his head smiling. "Thanks guys for coming to my defense."

"Of course." Ruby smiled. "It wouldn't have been right for you to get in trouble like that. Especially for aiding someone in trouble."

"Speaking of whom..." He walked over to Velvet and held out his hand. "We didn't get the chance to meet properly. Name's Ky Virtus. Member or team RWBYK."

Velvet took the offered hand with a smile. "As I said, my name is Velvet Scarlatina, and I'm a member of Team CFVY(Coffee). We're a second-year team."

"You're a second-year team!" Jaune shouted surprised.

Ren put a hand on his shoulder. "I don't think that's as big a deal as you make it out to be."

Ky nodded. "Ren's right. I mean this is a school with a four-year curriculum."

"Velvet, If you don't mind my asking, where was the rest of your team?" Pyrrha inquired curiously.

Everyone looked a Velvet who nervously rubbed her head. "It's not that they don't want to be in the same lunch with me. Far from it. Our schedules are just slightly different."

"Then you should sit with us from now on in case Team CRDL tries to harass you again." Ruby stated with a smiled.

Velvet shook her head. "Oh, I wouldn't want to be a bother."

Ky waved it off. "You wouldn't be a bother. We have plenty of room at our table after all."

"Besides, there's no way we're letting you hop away from us so easily." Yang stated with a smile.

Pretty much everyone but Ky, Velvet and Pyrrha groaned at that. "Ha! Good one, Yang!" Ky laughed as the duo high-fived.

Nora put her arm around Velvet. "You'll have to excuse Yang. You learn pretty fast that she's not right in the head."

"Says the girl that technically stole our pancakes this morning." Yang retorted.

Nora shot back. "I brought them back."

"Yes, but only after I told you to." Ren added.

Nora gasped. "Ren, did you just betray me. I'm hurt and shocked."

"Hey, Ky." Ruby spoke. "I heard you mentioned some named 'Aptus.' Who's that?"

"My best friend." Ky replied with a grin. "He's a Faunus too."

"Wait, what?" Blake said surprised the reveal.

"Yep. He's a Fox Faunus. We're childhood friends," Ky checked the time. "Alright, time to get to our classes!"

RWBYK, and JNPR walked down the hall with Ren, Nora, and Yang 'discussing' the pun and 'betrayal'. Velvet watched them interact and smiled glad that there were more people around that didn't mind Faunus. She would have to tell her team of them.

XXXXXXXXX

Team JNPR and RWBYK were now in another lecture hall. It was full of books, and the blackboard had a map with various pins and tracking marks to other important landmarks and notes.

A rather young man, with messy green hair zipped around the classroom. His attire was disheveled: his white shirt was partially tucked into his dark-green pants and its was collar raised, showing a slack yellow tie, along with mismatched brown and black shoes. He also has round glasses that appear to be opaque.

He continued to move around as he talks about his lecture with a quick tone of words. While Jaune was sleeping, Ky grimaced as he tried to keep up his note taking to the teacher's fast lecturing. Velvet was happy to know she had this class with them, but was quite astonished by how fast he scribbled.

"Yes! Yes, prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution, more popularly known as the Faunus War, humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie," Oobleck rapidly stated as he darted about the room at high speed, only pausing to take a sip from his coffee cup, while the students all darted their gazes back and forth in an attempt to keep up with both him and their notes. "Now, while this must seem like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events! Why the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day!"

'Jeez, how much coffee has the guy been drinking? Not just today, but over the course of his life, because I'm thinking it's a little too much,' Ky thought to himself while writing down the information as fast as he could. His efforts were already starting to give him a few cramps in his wrist, much to his irritation.

"Now, have any among you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage," Oobleck then asked. Quite a few students raised their hands in response, among which one could easily spot Velvet, making Ky's eyes narrow in response as he drew up a few conclusions as to who could be responsible for the rabbit girl's problems, while Oobleck just shook his head in disappointment. "Dreadful, simply dreadful! Remember students, it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence. I mean, I mean, I mean just look at what happened to the White Fang."

"Hear, hear, Professor," Ky cheered, unable to contain himself.

"That's Doctor, Mister Virtus, and while I appreciate your enthusiasm, please try to control yourself while in class," Oobleck admonished. Ky just rubbed his head in response, his grin unapologetic, and allowed the doctor to continue with the lecture. "Now, which one of you young scholars can tell me what many theorists believe to be the turning point in the third year of the war?" A hand shot up almost as fast as Oobleck's speech and movement speeds, and the doctor was just as quick to call on the heiress it belonged to.

"The battle at Fort Castle," Weiss answered in confidence.

"Precisely," Oobleck confirmed. "And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"

Before anyone could raise a hand, Jaune was suddenly startled awake from his own nap, due to something hitting him in the back of his head. Since he was sitting right next to Jaune, Ky was able to realize all of that, and would have spun around to glare at the person he knew was most likely responsible, had Oobleck not mistaken Jaune's outburst as a sign that he wanted to answer. "Mr. Arc! Finally contributing to class! This is excellent! Excellent," Oobleck cheered. "What is the answer?"

Jaune was now stuck, since his nap had prevented him from hearing the question, let alone any other part of this lecture, and was already stumbling to try and answer. Thankfully, he was provided with a quick save from the bluenette next to him. "Sorry about that, Doc, but Jaune was actually talking to me," Ky apologized, directing Oobleck's gaze onto him, and not in a friendly way. "He's been having some trouble keeping up with his notes since class started, and had asked me if I could help him out so that he would be able to better study up. He was trying to double check to make sure that I had managed to keep up so far, but I wasn't really paying too much attention to him."

"Ah, I see. Very kind of you to aid a fellow student, Mr. Virtus. My apologies, Mr. Arc," Oobleck nodded in understanding, drawing a quiet sigh of relief from Jaune. "That said, since you seem so apt at taking notes today, Mr. Virtus, perhaps you would like to answer in your friend's place."

"Yeah, I probably could, but I'm afraid that your question's a little vague," Ky shrugged.

"How so?"

"Well, from what I've gathered, there could be any number of advantages that the Faunus would have had over General Lagune's forces. It could've been that they simply outnumbered him, the fact that the Faunus were in a fort, the fact that the Faunus were better rested than the general's forces, or even simply the fact that many Faunus have better senses than humans, be it under certain conditions or in general," Ky reasoned out, almost sounding like an actual scholar, as opposed to his usual self.

"Hm, a very astute observation, Mr. Virtus," Oobleck applauded before taking another sip from his coffee cup. "However, many would argue that there is one particular factor that provided the Faunus their victory. Cardin, perhaps you would care to share your thoughts on the subject."

While Cardin was upset that his attempts at embarrassing Jaune had backfired, he was not about to pass up this opportunity, since he was not likely to land into trouble with the Key wielder right now. "Well, I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier."

His response drew a disappointed, and rather upset shake of the head from Oobleck, while Pyrrha gave a more verbal response to Cardin's mocking. Ky was not the only one who had figured out why Jaune had nearly been embarrassed in front of the class. "You're not the most open-minded of individuals, are you, Cardin," the invincible girl noted with a glare.

"I think it'd be easier to say he's not the brightest, considering that even animals know better than to antagonize their predators," Ky pointed out while turning back to throw a warning glare at Cardin.

"What? You got a problem," Cardin barked at Pyrrha.

"No, I have the answer, and in a way, Ky did as well with his answer," Pyrrha replied, turning to face the front again so that she could prove her point. "It's night vision. As Ky, pointed out, many Faunus are known to have better senses than humans, and just as many are known to have nearly-perfect sight in the dark."

Cardin just growled in response to that, prompting Blake to add on to Pyrrha's answer with her own input. "General Lagune was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched, and the general was captured," Blake recounted in better detail. She then threw a taunting smile of her own at Cardin as she finished, "Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure."

Nearly the entire class let out a long "oo" in response to Blake's burn, while Cardin merely growled again and stood to try and retaliate. Thankfully, he never got too far thanks to the teacher. "Mr. Winchester! Please, take your seat. You can see me after class for additional readings," Oobleck tiredly demanded. "Now, moving on!"

As Oobleck continued with his lecture, Jaune took a chance to lean closer to Ky and whisper, "Hey, thanks for a minute ago."

"No worries, we're friends. And just so you know, I really will let you copy my notes, if you want. I know you've been struggling in this class since we started in it," Ky offered in return.

"Yeah, I'd appreciate that," Jaune agreed, a little surprised by Ky's willingness to continue helping him. He looked away from the teen both saddened and a bit jealous. 'He's the hero want to be.'

Later on...

After the lesson ended,  Velvet, Nora, Ren, Pyrrha, and Ky walked out of the classroom. Pyrrha however stopped Jaune near the doorway, prompting the others to do so as well.

"You guys can go ahead. I need to speak with Jaune." She told the group.

"Alright, I'll walk Velvet to her dorm." Ky said. Nora and Ren shrugged, and begin to walk off.

Hearing what Ky said, Velvet looked at the young Hunter. "You don't have to do that Ky. I wouldn't want to be any trouble. I want to defend myself. It's just... It's taken time to get where I am now. Believe it or not, I was shyer when I first got here. Coco's been helping me come out of my shell more."

"Coco?" Ky asked, tilting his head. "Wow, who knew a morning beverage could help out that much?"

Velvet giggled. "No, no. The leader of my team is named Coco."

"Ohhhh." Ky nodded before realizing something. "Wait, why are you in a first year History Class if you're a second year?"

"Actually, I'm more of a helper to Dr. Oobleck. That's why most days you see me staying behind. Those are time in which he has me performing a specific task." Velvet explained.

"That makes sense. Still, if people like Cardin bother you again, call me I'll come running." Ky reassured, giving her charming grin.

Velvet's eyes widened as she felt her cheeks burned bright red. She looked down twiddling her fingers. "O-Okay." Was all she said for Ky's offer, and the duo then departed the hallway for Team CFVY's dorm room.

Jaune and Pyrrha watched the group leave before the blonde turned to look at the red head. "What do you mean you wanted to talk to me?" He asked confused.

Pyrrha just smiled at him. "Come with me!" She said as she dragged the the blonde by his arms. Jaune could only yelp as Pyrrha zipped away to who knows where...

Night time...on the rooftop of the school dorms...

A dejected Jaune and Pyrrha came onto a rooftop of one of the buildings, with a clear view of the glowing green orbs in the central tower of Beacon.

"Pyrrha, I know I'm going through a hard time right now, but I'm not that depressed." He said as he looked down. "I...could always be a farmer or something."

The red head blushed from misunderstanding as she pushed his shoulder. "N-n-no! That's not why I brought you up here, Jaune!"

"Then, why?" He asked. Pyrrha held her arm.

"Jaune, I know you're having a difficult time in class and that you're still not the strongest of fighters, so... I want to help you! Ky can help us too!" She said. "You saw how he was when he and I fought weeks ago. We can train up here after class where no one can bother us!"

Jaune narrowed his eyes. "You...think I need help?"

"N-No, that's not what I meant..." She mumbled. Jaune raised an eyebrow though.

"But...you just said it."

"Jaune, everyone needs a push from time to time. It doesn't segregate you from the rest of us. You made it to Beacon, and that's high praise already." Pyrrha spoke out.

Jaune shook his head, lowering his head. "You're wrong... I-I actually don't belong here."

"That's a terrible thing to say! Of course you do!" Pyrrha pleaded to him.

"No, I don't!" He yells angrily. "I wasn't really accepted into Beacon..."

He sighed as Pyrrha reacted bewilderedly. She wondered what he meant by that though.

"What...do you mean?" She hesitated to ask that question. The blonde stuttered around as he found the courage to talk.

"...I mean I didn't go to combat school, I didn't pass any tests. I didn't earn my spot at this Academy!" He yelled once more "I lied! I got my hands on some fake transcripts, and I lied!"

"Eh? But...why?" Pyrrha asked with widened eyes. Jaune slumped down as he turned around towards the night sky.

"'Cause this is always what I've wanted to be! My father, my grandfather, and his father before him were all warriors! They were all heroes! I wanted to be one, too... I was just never good enough." He confessed.

Pyrrha blinked several times, before placing a hand on his shoulder. "Then let me help you!"

However, Jaune turned on her, taking her hand off with frustration. "No! I don't want help! I don't want to be the damsel in distress! I want to be the hero!"

"Jaune, I—"

"I'm tired of being the lovable idiot that gets stuck in a tree while his friends fight for their lives! During lunch, Ky was able to stand up to Cardin and his whole team! Something I couldn't even do! Don't you get it?! If I can't do this on my own, then...what good am I?" His voice lowers down.

Pyrrha attempts to reach out for his arm to comfort him. But the blonde just raised an arm.

"Please. Just...leave me alone for a bit." He asks politely. She lowers her head, her expression looking sad.

"Well, if that's what you think is the best..." She muttered as her footsteps start to get softer, until she exited the rooftop.

Jaune, after he saw her leave, paced a little until he heard a mocking laugh and Cardin appeared on the roof from his window. The blonde gasped upon seeing the bully.

"Oh Jaune..." Cardin chuckled.

"C-Cardin?" Jaune yelped. The bully snickered as he walked around him.

"I couldn't help but overhear you two from my dorm room. So, you snuck into Beacon, huh? I gotta say, Jaune, I never expected you to be such a rebel!" He admitted with a smile. The blonde gulps.

"C-Cardin, please! Please, don't tell anyone!" He begged. The bully snickered as he walked towards him.

"Tell? Come on, why would I do something like that and rat out a friend?" He suddenly said, surprising him as he trapped the blonde in a headlock.

"A-A friend? Really?" He stuttered. Cardin grinned.

"Of course, Jauney boy! The way I see it, as long as you're there for me when I need you, we'll be friends for a long time!" He replied as he threw him down to the floor.

"And speaking of which, I don't have much time to do those extra readings for Dr. Oobleck. Think you can take care of that for me, buddy?" He basically ordered as he leaned up to rub his hair. Chuckling, he stood up.

"That's what I thought." He then started to go back towards the ledge to hang on the edge. "So don't worry, Jauney boy, your secrets safe with your best friend Cardin..."

With that said, Cardin dropped back down to his room as Jaune rubbed his neck in pain and worry.
