The scene pans over from an open window inside the dorms of Beacon. The dorms at Beacon were co-ed dorms, with males and females sleeping in the same room. This allowed all members of a team share the same living area, regardless of differing genders. The doors to the dorm rooms were secured using an electronic lock, which can be disengaged using a student's Scroll, meaning it was possible to get locked out if the door closes and a student did not have their Scroll with them. There were also doors that opened to reveal closets, as well as bathrooms inside in addition.
Inside the rooms were a couple of wall shelves, bookshelves, tables, chairs, as well as other useful things. In the center of the room was a circular red and beige rug. The entire floor was covered in black carpet though.
Ky started to open his eyes as he looked around and found himself in his sleeping bag on the floor in the room he shared with Ruby and the others. He sat up and and yawned, smacking his lips and rubbing his hair. He leaned back was about to go back to sleep when he suddenly came face to face with Ruby, who looked down at him.
"Whoa!" Ky yelped out, startled by her sudden appearance.
Ruby giggle at his reaction. "Morning Ky." She chirped with a huge smile.
"Huh? Oh! Morning, Rosebud" Ky replied, rolling onto his hands and feet before sitting upright. That's when he noticed Ruby's attire new attire. It consisted of a red plaid skirt, stockings of various length, and a brown jacket with a tan vest and white shirt with a red ribbon tied at the collar. Lastly, he saw that she had on her cloak.
"What's with the new look?" Ky asked a bit confused by why she looked ready to leave. "Are you going somewhere?"
"Ky this is a school, we have classes remember?" Ruby reminded causing Ky to chuckle and rub the back of his head sheepishly.
"Oh yeah, almost forgot." Ky commented. "You know, you look really cute in that uniform, Rosebud."
Ruby's face turned bright red at that. "W-What?" She stuttered out, not expecting the compliment.
Ky grinned at her reaction before he got up and walked over to the closet door and quickly grabbed his school uniform that Ozpin had given him. For males, the Beacon Academy uniform consisted of black suits lined with gold, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt with a red tie.
"Well, I'm going to go ahead and get dressed in the bathroom. Be out in a few." Ky told Ruby as he headed to the bathroom and closed the door.
After that, Ruby shook her head to clear away her embarrassment. "Get it together, Ruby." She told herself in a whispering tone.
"Aww, that was so cute!"
Perking up at the voice, Ruby looked over and saw that it was Yang who was now wide awake, while wearing a teasing grin on her face.
"Y-Yang?" Ruby looked over at her sister in alarm. "
"My little sister is growing up so fast! Her first crush!" The blonde cooed
Ruby's cheeks flared up once again. "Yang, stop it! I don't have a crush on Ky!"
"Well, he did say that you look cute in your uniform." Yang informed. "So, maybe he finds you really attractive."
"Gah, can we just drop this!?" Ruby groaned, covering her face with her hands.
"Ugh...what's all the yelling about?" a tired voice called at them, as the duo saw that it was Blake sitting up.
"Opps. Sorry, Blake." Ruby sheepishly apologized.
The dark-haired girl waved her off, before noticing Ky wasn't in the room. "Hey, where's Ky?" she asked curiously
"Oh, he's changing in the bathroom." Ruby said, gesturing to said door with her thumb.
"Welp, might as well get dressed," Yang said, as she hopped out of her bed and grabbed her uniform.
"Yeah," Blake agreed, before she copied the act.
Soon, Blake and Yang proceed to change into their Academy uniforms, when they all heard a knock from bathroom door. "Hey, is it safe to come out?" Ky's voice called out from the other side.
"Yeah, you can come out now!" Ruby called back.
The bathroom door was then unlocked and opened with Ky stepping out in the Boys Beacon Academy uniform. "Wow, this is so unlike me." He commented, as he stepped out.
"Ooo la la~!" Yang sang, she was impressed by his new look. Ruby, on the other hand felt her cheeks flare at how handsome he looked.
"What?" Ky blinked at their stares, tilting his head.
"You clean up nice~" Yang said, giving the bluenette a look over.
"She's right," Blake agreed with a nod. "It compliments you hair."
Ky scratched his cheek. "Heh, you really think so?" He then noticed Ruby was staring at him. "...What's wrong, Rosebud?"
Ruby blinked and blushed, realizing she was staring. "H-Huh? Oh, i-it's nothing." Seeing the confused look from Ky, the smirk from Yang, and the amused look from Blake, she reddened even further. "Okay fine! I just thought you looked kinda nice wearing that..."
Ky put his his arms behind his head and grinned. "Thanks, Rosebud."
It was that moment when he heard soft snoring and looked over to see Weiss was sleeping soundly in her bed, but her eyes twitched upon hearing the chirping of a bird outside the dorm area.
"Snow White's still asleep?" He asked, gesturing over to the white-haired girl.
"I'm surprised she slept through all the yelling." Ruby commented. "She must be one heck of a heavy sleeper."
"Oh, is that right?" At that moment, a large grin appeared on Ky's face as an idea came to his mind.
"I'll be right back." Was all Ky said before heading into the team's personal bathroom. A few seconds later, he comes out with a cup of water in his hand, with a devious smirk on his face.
"Allow me," Ky requested, and Ruby, who started to get an idea as to what the bluenette had in mind, and could not help but cover her mouth to hide her giggles.
After "stealthily" making his way right next to Weiss's bed, Ky simply threw the water in the cup on the girl's face in one go, resulting in Weiss shrieking loudly before jumping up from the bed in a state of panic as causing her to fall on the floor.
"Good morning Team RWBYK!" Ky cheered excitedly as he grinned down at the girl, causing Ruby to burst out laughing.
Weiss's panic soon ended though when she heard the laughter, and she was soon glaring right at the grinning bluenette responsible for the trick. "What in the world is wrong with you!?" Weiss demanded, wiping the water off her face. "Why would you do that!?
"Well, nothing else seemed to be getting you out of bed, so drastic measures had to be taken," Ky shrugged, though his smile proved he was not as sorry as he was trying to sound.
Ruby seemed to stop her fit of giggles as she went to stand by Ky. "Now that you're awake we can officially begin our first order of business." She told Weiss.
"Excuse me?" Weiss said, as she stood up and wondered what the girl was going on about.
"Decorating!" Yang happily informed, now holding a large bundle of stuff in her arms for all to see.
"What?" Weiss questioned, now more incredulous than confused.
"We still have to unpack," Blake pointed out to the heiress as she hefted up her own suitcase. Said suitcase turned out to not be very well secured, as it ended up dropping open and spilling its contents out onto the floor. "And clean," the black haired girl added on.
It was hard to argue the fact that Blake did have a point, but Weiss was still a little too peeved with her sudden wake-up call to really admit that to anyone.
Weiss gives them an unenthusiastic look, as Ruby then pulls out a whistle out of nowhere and blows into it, making sure to wake Weiss up this time.
"GAAH!" The heiress yelled as she falls to the ground. "For the love of... Alright, I'm awake!"
Yang and Blake giggled, before Weiss stormed off to her closet to grab her uniform and then rushes off to the bathroom to change. Ky and Ruby then high-five as they all wait for their other friend to finish up.
After a minute or so, Weiss emerges from her changing locations. Ruby then grins as they grab their stuff once more.
"Alright! Weiss, Blake, Yang, Ky, and their fearless leader Ruby have begun on their first mission. BANZAI!" She yelled as she raised her fist into the air.
"BANZAI!" Ky, Yang and Blake join the girl, yelling the same line, turning at an angle on their hips with their fists held high. Seeing this, Weiss just face palm.
Yang places a poster of six guys in various poses named "THE ACHIEVE MEN" on her part of the room. Weiss positions the painting of the Forever Fall forest to perfection and walks away. Blake was busy putting away her books on the shelves, picking up a copy of Ninjas of Love and widening her eyes as she warily looks around before putting it back. Ky snickers at her as he takes a picture of the alerted girl with his Scroll.
Ky himself didn't have much, other than few books, clothes and a black sleeping bag.
Ruby positions Crescent Rose at an exact angle against the curtains so she can perfectly slash a diagonal portion off. A quick zoom around the room (and the repaired curtains) ends with the girls admiring their handiwork...with one problem. The beds were cramped together in the center of the floor.
Weiss folded her arms. "This...isn't going to work."
"It is a bit cramped." Blake admitted.
Ky glances at all four them. "Maybe because you girls have too much stuff..."
"Yeah, maybe we should ditch some of our stuff." Yang suggested with an unsure face. Ruby looked around a bit, and then gets an idea.
"We could ditch the beds...and then replace them with BUNK BEDS! It's genius!" She suggested. Weiss looks at her.
"That sounds extremely dangerous." She replied. Yang however grinned at the idea.
"And a whole lotta fun!" She instead said. Even Blake seemed to had agreed with the idea, much to Weiss's chagrin.
"It does seem efficient." The dark-haired girl commented..
"Plus, we'll still have lot of room to work with once the bunk beds are in." Ky agreed with a nod.
"Hold on, what about you?" Yang asked the boy.
Ky merely shrugged in reply. "Meh, I'm good with sleeping on the floor. I'll probably get a futon or something."
"I think we should put it to a vote." Weiss then suggested.
Ruby gave her a smug grin. "I think we just did."
To the sounds of two dings and a single buzz, Blake thumbs up the idea while Yang makes a double-rocker gesture.
"Its majority wins! Four to one, soooo...I think we have a winner!" Ky smirked. Weiss angrily curls her fists at her side. "Alright, ladies! Let's get to work!"
With that, the team rushed at the beds, where sounds of jack-hammering and sawing are heard until they gather back at the front of the room.
"Objective: Complete!" Ruby says as they look over to the new sight.
While Weiss' bed was simply on the ground next to her art and luggage, Blake's bed was next to her books, which were used to raise Yang's bed over it by placing the novels on the posts, and Ruby's was hanging from ropes on the ceiling with a blanket used as a tent over it. Ky's sleeping bag was simply placed between Blake's and Weiss's, sitting between the two and being in front of the bookshelf on the floor.
Ruby cheers, and then jumps onto her bed as she takes out a handbook. "Allllright people, our second order of business iiiiiiiis...! Classes..." She says with a disheartened tone as she pulls out a pencil. "Now, we have a few classes together today. At 9, we've got to be—"
"Wait, did you say nine o'clock?!" Weiss says as she looks at a watch on her wrist. Ruby gives her a look of remembrance.
"Uhh...yeah?" Ky and the girls turn their looks to Weiss, who shows her watch to them.
"It's 8:55 you dolts! We got to get to class, pronto!" She yelled as she slams the door open.
Team JNPR all peeked out their door in time to see Weiss racing out of Team RWBYK's room not even a second later, with the rest of the heiress's team watching after her for a second or two.
"Last one there takes all the blame!" Ky shouted as he shot after Weiss.
"Uhh, t-t-to, to class," Ruby ordered as she quickly ran after her partner and friend, with Yang and Blake right behind her.
"Class?" Jaune repeated just before he and the rest of his team all toppled over each other. That did not keep the blonde down for too long, as he was soon up on his feet and racing off after the girls as he cried out, "We're gonna be late!"
Ozpin and Glynda watch as Teams RWBYK and JNPR take a moment to follow up. The crop wielding woman glances at her watch, and Ozpin takes a sip of his coffee as he chuckles.
At some point during their sprint from the dorms to the main building where classes were to be held, Ruby caught up with Ky. Once she did, Ruby's excitement began to shine through once again when she asked, "So, you ready for our first day of classes at Beacon?"
"Are you kidding?" Ky questioned with a grin. "We're going to a school to learn how to fight monsters, save the world, and basically be better heroes! What's not to be excited about?!"
Ruby laughed at her friend's shared enthusiasm, when she noticed something about Ky right at that moment though. "I see you decided to take a more personal touch with your uniform as well," Ruby observed, getting a confused look from Ky that said he was not sure what she was talking about. "You're still wearing that necklace of yours."
Glancing down at his neck, Ky could not help but smile a bit as he fingered the heart pendant that hung from the chain around his neck, and replied, "Yeah, I hadn't even realized it, but then again, I've worn this thing for so long it's practically become a part of me. I haven't gone anywhere without it since the day I first got it, and it would feel way too weird to start doing so now."
Ruby nodded in understanding, knowing exactly what Ky meant by that since it was the same way for her when it came to her red cloak in a way. Of course, there was a bit more reason to why her cloak was so special to her besides that, and she had a feeling that the same could be said for why Ky cared about that necklace of his so much. She felt like it was a good hunch, considering how he eyed the pendant while he was fingering it with a look she knew she held a few times after she first got her cloak, and whenever she visited her mother's gravestone, but now was not the best time to be delving into such personal matters.
Right now, they had to scramble in order to make sure they were not late for their first class of the day.
"This is gonna be awesome!" Ky exclaimed in excitement.
"Yeah!" Ruby cheered in agreement while she and Ky high-fived one another, much to the amusement of most of their friends and teammates as they all continued hurrying to class.

The two ms arrive at the main lecture building. Quickly running to their classroom, Team RWBYK and JNPR barely make it on time, and saw Beacon Academy had lecture halls similar to that of universities.
Time passes, and the Ky and girls take their seats on the first row, with Ky sitting between Weiss and Ruby, while Yang and Blake sat to the ice girl's right as class began. Team JNPR sat on a few rows up. The teacher of this lecture was Peter Port, a man in his early old age that had gray hair and a large mustache. He wore a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons. His pants he wears tucked into olive boots, similar in appearance and construction to cavalry boots.
"Monsters! Deeeemons... Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" Professor Port laughs as the girls look over to him. He noticed that many people were staying silent, prompting him to continue.
'This is so NOT awesome!' Ky mentally corrected himself barely even an hour later as he struggled to stay awake. He then felt pressure on his left arm before he looked over and saw Ruby leaning on his shoulder. Ky only a bit taller than her, by a hair so it wasn't that uncomfortable for the note taking boy.
'She's looks cute when she's sleeping.' Ky thought, booping the girl on the nose, smiling in a amusement as Ruby scrunched her nose a bit.
"Uhhhh... And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy! Now, as I was saying: Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces! And that's where we come in." Port attempts to continue the lecture. "Huntsmen! Huntresses..."
He gave Yang a wink, which she groaned uncomfortably at. "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves! From what, you ask? Why, the very world!"
A random student then stood up and raised his fist. "Ayyyy-yep!" He exclaimed, as he stood like this for a moment as everyone looks at him strangely he before sat down, embarrassed.
At that moment, Ruby stirred as she wakes up, sliver eyes clouded and unfocused. She then looked up at Ky, looked him dead in the eye drowsily, blinked once, then again for a brief second before realization struck. Her face turned red and she gained a shocked expression, her mouth agape.
"Ky! I-I-I-I." Ruby sputtered before leaning away from the boy "I was getting cold! Yeah, it was cold!"
Ky laughed a bit and patted her on the head. "Really, because you seemed a really comfortable."
The crimsonette blushed furiously before she turned away from him.
"That is what you are training to become. But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man... Me! When I was a boy..." The students groan as he starts to go off onto a story.
'We ran all the way from the dorms in a mad rush to make sure we weren't late, for this?' Ky thought incredulously as he struggled to keep himself upright.
And even though those cabbages were knocked away by those meddling kids...!" Port goes off in the background once more with a series of "blah"s.
At one point, Ky felt that he was finally going to go down, when he picked up on the sound of Ruby quietly snickering to his immediate left. Turning to the girl in question, Ky saw Ruby was very focused on penciling a paper in front of her. He glances between Ruby and the paper she was scratching on, so she wondered what she was doing.
That's until Ruby took notice of how his eyes were trained on her. With a few more strokes of her pencil, Ruby set the writing utensil down, and then held up her paper for Ky to see with a sneaky little grin on her face: A general ball-with-limbs-and-a-head drawing of the teacher with stink lines coming from him and "Professor Poop" written underneath it. The drawing alone made it hard for Ky to not start laughing at her silliness, but when Ruby blew a quick raspberry to imitate a fart sound, he just could not hold it in any longer. He was just glad he could keep it down to amused chuckles, and that was what drove the rest of Team RWBYK to turn and see Ruby's drawing as well. Only Yang and Blake got a laugh out of it though, as Weiss merely glared at the scythe wielder in disapproval.
"Ahem," Professor Port suddenly coughed, startling the laughs out of everyone, thinking that they had been caught. They all soon breathed a sigh of relief when he just continued on like nothing had happened. "In the end the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity..."
Ky snorted at that, and after making sure that Port could not see him, he quickly scribbled something down on his paper before sliding it over for Ruby to see. 'Sheer tenacity? More like the massive size of his ego,' the note read.
Now it was Ruby had to keep from laughing out loud, both because the message was funny, and because she completely agreed with Ky's statement. Taking up her pencil again, Ruby immediately scrawled out a note of her own in reply, and slid it over for Ky to read. 'Not that I disagree, but you probably shouldn't be passing notes like that when we're sitting in the front row.'
Ky instantly shot her a look after reading the note that clearly showed he was questioning if she had actually just wrote that to him, and then scribbled out his next reply. 'Said the girl who's secretly drawing ridiculous pictures of the teacher while she's also sitting in the front row.'
While she did shrug in reply, Ruby's smile remained completely shameless and as amused as ever over her previous action. He did have a point, but then again, having a lousy choice of seats was their own fault, since they were the last ones to arrive for class. 'Can you blame me?' she then wrote out. 'Until now, I thought it was impossible to make fighting monsters sound boring.'
'Right?! Not to mention that I'm pretty sure he's making a lot of this up,' Ky quickly wrote out.
The two friends continued on with their note passing from there, not really talking about much of anything after a while, and while Port did not seem to realize that he was being ignored by them, Weiss most certainly did, and she was far from happy about it, as her sour expression could prove. It steadily grew from just being sour to a full-on glare of indignation and frustration the more she watched the duo, right up to and through the end of Professor Port's story, as he went into what he believed to be the lesson behind his rather ridiculous tale, and there was soon little doubt that she would soon explode at the first chance she was offered.
"The moral of this story? A true huntsman must be honorable..."
Ruby is balancing an apple on a book with her pencil held only by her finger while making a silly face.
"A true huntsman must be dependable..."
Ruby has fallen asleep again in the first class of the year.
"A true huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise..."
Ruby then not-so-subtly picked her nose...then wiped it on Ky before giggling a little while he freaked out and wiped it off himself. To get even, Ky grabbed Ruby's hood and pulled it over her head forcefully before rubbing her head, causing her to laugh as she pulled it off.
Professor Port finally posed a question to the students. "So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"
Finally, Weiss's chance to blow off steam seemed to have come, as she instantly shot her hand up in the air, and declared, "I do sir!"
"Well then, let's find out," Port challenged as he turned towards a cage he had set off to the side, prompting whatever beast he was keeping contained in it to start snarling and growling as it fought to break out. "Step forward, and face your opponent."
As Weiss stood up to retrieve her weapon and combat attire, Ky looked between their teacher and the cage for a few moments before he finally asked, "Was that thing in here the whole time? And how did we not notice it until just now?"
Soon, Weiss finally came back in, all geared up for a fight with her rapier fully loaded and ready for battle. At least, that was what it seemed like to everyone else, but Ky could see that there was a certain intensity to Weiss's form that she did not normally have. More than that, the cold, steel that was in her eyes was new to him as well; it almost seemed like she was trying to prove something after being told that she was wrong. Before he could think on it much more though, he ended up getting distracted by the cheers of their teammates, and a few other classmates as well, though it was mostly in the case of those that were on Ky's team.
"Goooo Weiss!" Yang cheered with a fist pump.
"Fight well," Blake added on as she waved a flag that had her team's name printed on it.
"Yeah, represent Team RWBYK!" Ruby finished with an added bit of excitement.
That last one was the only one that Weiss actually responded to, and it was not in an accepting manner. "Ruby, I'm trying to focus," Weiss scolded.
"Oh, sorry," Ruby meekly apologized.
"Don't worry, Weiss. You've got this," Ky encouraged, despite how much he wanted to glare at the heiress for her comment to Ruby. He figured that she just needed a few more votes of confidence right now in order to improve her mood. "But do us a favor and don't lead it over here. Or better yet, just hit it with one of your icy glares. Maybe it'll freeze to death in an instant," He joked, earning him one such glare from the girl. "Yeah, that'd be one I'm talking about, but direct it at whatever the prof's got in the cage. It'll be more effective on that than it is on me."
"Alright. Let the match...BEGIN!" Port declared as he sliced off the lock the cage with the axe blades on his personally customized blunderbuss, and the minute that the door dropped, a boar-like Grimm that everyone recognized as a Boarbatusk came rushing out with a growl. Acting more on instinct than her actual training, Weiss quickly leapt to the side, swiping her blade at the Boarbatusk as it passed her. Rolling to her feet again, Weiss glared at the monster boar, almost picturing it as everyone that had recently made her mad in some way when she did before she brushed that aside in an attempt to regain her focus. Not that Port's commentary was really doing too much to help with that. "Haha, wasn't expecting that were you?"
"Hang in there, Weiss," Ruby encouraged, already having forgotten her partner's earlier request for quiet.
Incidentally, Weiss did somehow manage to block out a good deal of her annoyance with Ruby when she next lunged at the pig, but in her rush, she had gone along a different path than intended with her strike, and ended up receiving a nasty hit from the Boarbatusk's tusks in her side, while her rapier ended up caught in the long, sharp appendages at the same time. "Bold, new approach," Port complimented as Weiss struggled to get her sword free. "I like it!"
"Come on Weiss, show it who's boss!" Ruby cried out. Unfortunately, that ended up distracting Weiss just enough for the Grimm to rip her weapon out of her hand and across the room from them both. Having not been expecting to be disarmed so suddenly, Weiss was left unable to recover before the Grimm struck again, and ended up knocked to the ground as a result.
"Oho, now what will you do without your weapon," Port questioned, almost sounding like he was enjoying Weiss's struggle.
"Does he realize how little his color commentary is actually helping her right now?" Ky questioned.
It was during that time that Weiss had managed pick herself up again, and then managed to roll away from the Boarbatusk's next charge, leaving it to collide with the wall behind her while she quickly retrieved her rapier. The minute she saw her partner had retrieved her blade Ruby called out, "Weiss, go for its belly! There's no armor underneath-"
"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss finally, coldly snapped, making Ruby flinch as her smile fell into a sad frown. Now Ky did not have a problem with glaring the white haired girl. Ruby was just trying to help out her friend; there was no need for Weiss to talk to her like that.
Before Ky could say anything though, everyone watched in awe as the Boarbatusk let out an angry, squeal-like roar before rolling itself up into a fast-moving, spiked ball of death that came hurtling towards Weiss. This time though, Weiss was more than ready, or at least ready to a sufficient extent, and with a wave of her rapier, she quickly summoned two of her snowflake glyphs; one in front of her and one behind. The Boarbatusk slammed right into the first glyph, and dropped down onto its back, leaving it open to attack as it struggled to get upright again. Weiss was not about to let the troublesome beast get that far, but instead, she back flipped onto the second glyph, kicked off of it, and rocketed forward with her rapier aimed right at its exposed, unprotected stomach. Her attack struck true, and after letting out a little bit of whimpering and weak squeals, the pig finally began to break down into dust like all other Grimm do when they are killed.
"Bravo! Braa-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true huntress-in-training," Port happily praised while Weiss caught her breath. "I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and stay vigilant. Class dismissed."
While everyone else calmly gathered up their belongings and started filing out of the room, Weiss just threw another cold, silent glare at Ruby before she spun around on her heel and marched out. Her teammates all watched her go with worried gazes, though Ruby's eyes had a bit of hurt mixed into them as well, while others were all wondering the same question that Jaune eventually muttered after watching her go.
"Sheesh, what's with her?" Jaune asked.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
Weiss was then seen marched out of the classroom in an angry huff.
"Weiss!" Ruby called out to get the girl's attention, but when Weiss turned to face her with the same glare that she had received at the end of Port's class, Ruby could not help but flinch back a little. Still, Ruby was not going to let that stop her, and this only helped her get right to the heart of the matter. "What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?"
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you," Weiss snapped before Ruby could finish. "You're supposed to be a leader and all you've been so far is a nuisance."
Ruby could not stop herself from scoffing at that before she asked, "What did I do?"
"That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest you acted like a child and you've only continued to do so," Weiss accused, finally letting out everything that had been bothering her since the ceremony, and unfortunately for Ruby, she was not holding back any of her frustration. Sure it hurt, but Ruby was still able to keep it together just enough to keep talking.
"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about working together? I thought you believed in acting as a team," Ruby reminded her while trying her best to keep her voice strong despite how quiet she became.
"Not a team led by you. I've studied, and trained, and quite frankly, I deserve better," Weiss stated, all the while with her voice as cold as ever. The next thing she said though was even colder than that though, if to no one else, than certainly to Ruby and the hooded huntress-in-training had a feeling that Weiss meant it to be that way at the moment. "Ozpin made a mistake."
Ruby wanted to try and reach out, to say or do something to help raise Weiss's spirits a little, but that last thing that Weiss said definitely had more of an impact than anything else. More than just an impact; it really hurt to the point where Ruby did not just feel terrible, she felt like she was going to start crying at any moment. The fact that she could feel the tears building up in her eyes already certainly reinforced the idea, and Ruby likely would have run right back to her room, or really just anywhere that she could be alone in order to let it all out had she not felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Ky's concerned face. "You okay, Rosebud?" he asked.
"I...I don't know," Ruby replied, looking dejected. "Do you think she's right? Am I not cut out to be a leader?"
"Nope!"
"Nope?" Ruby asked, looking at him confused.
"Nope!" Ky repeated with a nod. "Look Ruby, I know what it feels like to be judge because you're different...all too well," His smile fell a little though before he brought it back. "...and I know that it hurts so much, but you shouldn't let that stop you. I mean, The Wizard of Oz let you and I come to Beacon, because he saw potential in both of us. I doubt the man made a mistake in having you as the leader of the team. You're a strong and a good person and no one's gonna stop me from saying that. And if you happen to stumble along the way, I'll be there to keep you steady."
"You mean that?" Ruby asked, looking at the bluenette.
"Yep!" Ky declared with a grin. "And the first thing I'm going to do is make you smile!"
"I don't want to smile..." Ruby groaned, but she was already stifling a giggle.
"Oh yeah? Not even if I do..." Ky used his hands to help him make a rather ridiculous face at her as he replied, "...this?"
Ruby just stared at him for a few seconds, til she found that she could not hold back what was bubbling up inside of her, and soon burst out laughing like no tomorrow. "Hahaha! Oh...Oh sweet Oum, that face...HAHAHAHAHA!" Ruby somehow managed to say in the midst of her laughing.
Dropping his silly expression, Ky could only grin happily and say, "There, that's it. All it takes is a smile, or a little bit of silliness."
Having gotten her laughter to settle after that episode, Ruby just continued smiling at Ky as she said, "Thanks for cheering me up, Ky. I needed that."
"I aim to to please, mi'lady!"
Ruby looked at Ky and gazed into his golden-colored eyes, for some reason, she felt safe and protected at his gaze. Ky was also gazing at Ruby's silver eyes, and felt he would do anything to protect the owner of those eyes. Even if he was impaled or tortured, he would do anything to protect her. She was just too adorable to be hurt by someone.
"I-I should get going, my next class is about to come out." Ruby said, blushing lightly.
"Okay. See ya, Rosebud!" Ky playfully winked at her as he head to the opposite direction, missing the redness on Ruby's cheeks.

Not long after he said bye to Ruby, he saw from of a certain heiress walking outside. "Weiss!" He called out.
Weiss glanced over her shoulder but once she saw who called her, she kept on walking. Unfortunately, the spiky-haired distraction walked right next to her. Hopefully, if she ignored it, it would go away.
"Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss. Weiss." Ky kept poking her in the shoulder.
IT WASN'T GOING AWAY!
"OH, FOR THE LOVE OF OUM! WHAT?!" Weiss screeched angrily.
Ky however, only raised an hand. "Hi."
Weiss stared at him, blankly. "You are without a doubt, the biggest idiot I have ever met." She sighed. "What do you want, Ky?"
"Do you want to tell me what was that all about?" Ky inquired.
"What?"
"The way you just snapped at Ruby like that, and told her that she wasn't cut out to be the leader. Any particular reason why?" Ky said. Even thought he knew the reason, he wanted to hear it from Weiss.
"Because she' immature! If anything, she's going to be a letdown and a burden!"
"Oh, c' mon!" Ky groaned. "Are you really this upset about not being leader?"
"Yes, I am," Weiss retorted. "Not that I expect a dolt like you to understand. You're about as childish as Ruby. Maybe even more!"
Ky narrowed his eyes at Weiss' retreating form. "You know, this is probably why Ozpin didn't make you leader."
"What?!" Weiss stopped in her tracks and turned around to confront Ky. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I may not know a lot about leaders but I'm pretty sure they don't throw a fit like children when things don't go their way," Ky crossed his arms.
Weiss stamped her foot. "I am NOT throwing a fit! It's Ruby who's acting like a child. I've studied and trained all of my life for this. I went through all the proper channels to get into Beacon, and as you saw, I've done everything humanly possible and more to show that I can become the best huntress of my generation, and yet, despite all of that, some little kid who somehow snuck into Beacon two years ahead of schedule is made the leader of the team? It just doesn't seem right. How can Ruby be expected to lead us when she hasn't put in nearly the same amount of work as the rest of us, and has no clue what any of us have done to get here?
"...You may be right about that," Ky agreed. That brought a smug look to Weiss's face, until he finished his statement. "But at the same time, you're absolutely wrong."
"Excuse me?!" Weiss demanded, her voice rising up a few pitches in volume.
"I agree that Ruby has no idea what you're capable of, but you can't really say that you know what she's capable of either...or me for that matter," Ky pointed out to the girl. "Did you ever think that maybe there was a reason that she and I were skipped ahead, aside from whatever theories that you've come up with since meeting her, I mean?" Her silence was enough of an answer for him, and he continued to press on from there. "The Wizard of Ozpin himself was the one who granted Ruby and I the chance to skip ahead, and considering that he's both the headmaster and a very experienced huntsman, I have to believe that there was a very solid reason for his decisions."
"So you'd blindly accept his decision in regards to the team's leader even after seeing how exceptional I am?" Weiss asked.
"Hate to burst your bubble princess, but your 'exceptional skill' is only matched by your snotty attitude." Ky pointed out.
"How dare you!" Weiss started to say, only to be cut of before she could say more.
"Yeah, that pretty much proves my point, you know," Ky informed her, silencing Weiss with that one sentence. "I'm not saying that you didn't work hard to become the fighter you are, but at the same time, a lot of us can't help but see you as a girl that has spent her entire life getting everything she wanted just by asking."
"That's not even remotely true," Weiss huffed defiantly with her arms crossed. When Ky just looked at her in disbelief, she could not help but falter a bit and admit, "Well...not entirely true."
"I never said it was," Ky reassured her. "But there's more to being a leader than just being a capable fighter and it's not something that just anyone can do. Sure, you can spend your whole life preparing yourself for such a position, study everything you can to make sure that you'll be ready to take charge if or when a situation calls for you to do so, but none of that means anything if you can't give others a real reason to follow you into a fight. I don't just mean that in the sense of having others like you, because there are times when your teammates will be upset with a decision you make, even if it does lead to a favorable result. A real leader is someone that can inspire others to keep going even when it all seems hopeless, or pointless, or just simply like there's no way for them to win. They can give others the courage to follow them anywhere, even if the path leads right into the gates of hell itself, and that's a daunting task for anyone to undertake, especially if they don't feel up to the task, but anyone who can hold that kind of fortitude naturally will always prove that they can do the job in the end. I've only really seen that kind of charisma in a few people before, but I can confidently say that Rosebud is one of the people that has it."
"I...suppose that's true," Weiss admitted, thinking back to the initiation when Ruby really got serious and took charge like it was second nature to her.
"Of course, I'm sure you have it as well, and may be able to bring it out in your own way, but throwing a fit because things didn't go your way isn't the best way to prove it to anyone," Ky continued to advise. "If anything, it just presents you with another challenge that can prove to be just as great as the challenge of being a leader. To be not the best leader, but the best teammate and the best person you can be. That would still require you to continue improving your skills and technique, but at the same time, it can also show that you are willing to let others take the lead when necessary. I'm sure that you can do that, if not for the team as a whole, then definitely for Ruby."
"Do you really think so?" Weiss asked. She was very doubtful of the fact after the way she had snapped at the scythe wielder.
"Of course. After all, she does, honestly want to be your friend, probably even more so than she wants to be your leader," Ky reminded her with a forlorn smile. "We can't always get everything we want, but we can make the best of what we do have, and more often than not, that can lead us to gaining something much better."
Weiss looked down at the ground as she contemplated over Ky's words for a moment.
With that, Ky stretched his arms a bit before placing them behind his head. "Welp, I better get going. I need to find a good place to go stargazing. Catch ya later!"
Just as he walked away, Weiss called out to him. "Ky."
"Hmm?" He turned back around to look at her.
"I...admit that I was being a little childish..." Weiss lowered her eyes to the ground, "I thought I could be a better leader, but I was wrong. Instead, I'll be the best teammate for team RWBYK. Also...I'll apologize to Ruby."
Ky smiled. He knew she'd come around...eventually.
"And..." Weiss looked away. "I've noticed that you excel with... people so I would like your advice on how to make it up to Ruby and how I can be a better teammate."
"Hm..." Ky tapped his chin. "Well for one thing..." he reached out and pinched Weiss' cheeks and stretched them out so she was smiling. "Smile more!" he said with a laugh.
Weiss slapped his hands away and rubbed her sore cheeks. "Ugh. Any other suggestions?"
"Well..." Ky crossed his arms. "You have to laugh at their jokes, help them when needed, play games with them, and support their decisions."
"Sounds childish, but considering it's you and Ruby it might work," Weiss said. "I suppose I could help her study?"
"Yeah," Ky nodded. "And work your way up from there. You'll be best friends before you know it!"
"I wouldn't go that far," Weiss rolled her eyes. But she smiled nonetheless. "Maybe I could help you as well? Based off of how you act in class, you're gonna need it."
"Yeah," Ky laughed. "So, does this mean we're friends, now?"
"Let's go with... acquaintances," Weiss conceded.
"Meh, close enough!" Ky grinned. "I'll catch ya later, Snow White." Ky then headed back into the school, leaving Weiss to her thoughts.

Later that night...
The full moon shines over the green lights of Beacon, and in the room of Team RWBYK, the door opens and Weiss' shadow is seen against the hall's light. Well, as much as it could when she tried to open it.
Blake was sleeping under the covers, Yang was spread out on her bed and snoring, though Ky's sleeping bag was empty, with the bluenette nowhere in sight. After looking around, Weiss lifts the cover of Ruby's tent. She finds the occupant with her head resting on notes, a pencil in her hand, and open books all around her. Looking amazed at Ruby's determination, clears her throat and gently shakes the other girl awake, who takes a second to regain consciousness and start flailing in surprise.
"Weiss! I-I was studying, and then I fell asleep! I'm sorry..." She starts to yell. Weiss quickly puts a finger to her mouth to tell her to lower her voice. She looks near Ruby's pillow and spots an empty Beacon coffee mug.
"How do you take your coffee?" She asks as she lowers her hand. Ruby wondered what she meant.
"I...I don't—"
"...Just answer the question." Weiss ordered.
"Uh... Cream with five sugars." Ruby quickly answered.
Weiss could not help but roll her eyes with a sigh at the rather childish preference of coffee, but then again, she probably should not have been too surprised by this since it was Ruby. "Don't move," Weiss ordered before disappearing from Ruby's sight again.
Ruby just glanced left to right in confusion afterwards, until Weiss came back with a steaming hot cup of the very drink she was asking about in hand and a smile on her face. "Here."
Ruby takes the cup with surprise showing on her face. "Uh... Thanks, Weiss." She did not want to spill any of it on her notes or bed, after all, but she was also really surprised about this sudden one-eighty that Weiss's mood seemed to have taken from earlier today.
Weiss must have realized this, as her face fell a little before she spoke up again. "Ruby, I think you have what it takes to be a good leader," Weiss slowly admitted, and when Ruby began to smile a little bit upon hearing that, she found a little more encouragement building up to finish her promise. "Just know, that I am going to be the best teammate you'll ever have." That made Ruby's smile fully form, and earned the heiress a grateful nod in return that seemed to raise her spirits even more than they had been before.
Feeling that she had said enough, Weiss then started to lower herself from Ruby's bed as she said, "Good luck studying." She had to pause for a second though when she noticed something on Ruby's homework assignment and quickly pointed to the item in question as she added, "That's wrong by the way."
Ruby quickly turned to see what Weiss was referring to, and was able to figure out her mistake on the assignment quickly enough. She figured that she must have made it when she was starting to doze off, but before she could start to correct it, she heard Weiss calling out to her again. "Hey Ruby," the heiress had said.
"Uh-huh?" Ruby hummed to show she was listening even as she turned to face Weiss, who looked to be heading back out of the room for something else, likely to return her weapon to her personal locker, since she still had it on her.
Weiss hesitated for a moment before she finally admitted, "I always wanted bunk beds as a kid."
With that, she had left the room and closed the door after saying that, as a grin that had taken up residence on Ruby's face. She then look down at Ky's sleeping bag, only to see it was empty.
"I wonder where Ky is..." She mumbled to herself.

"Wow...now this is what I call a view." Ky gazed out. He was currently sitting atop the roof of the school, high above any of the trees, as he gazed up at the starry night sky with a soda at his side. "I mean, not as great as the view back home, but close enough."
"Ky?"
The sudden voice startled the young man a bit, before he turned around and saw that it was Ruby, holding her cup of coffee.
"Oh, hey Rosebud. Sorry, I didn't hear you coming," Ky apologized.
"It's alright. I was the one who startled you," Ruby assured him, as she rubbed her head. She then looked to him and asked, "So, what are you doing out here by yourself anyway?"
"Well, I was trying to find someplace that I could stargaze," Ky shrugged.
"You stargaze?" Ruby asked in surprise.
"Yeah. It's a favorite past time of both mine and my best friend back home. Even before I met him though, I'd love going out at night to just gaze up at the stars, wondering what kind of mysteries and stories they held while lighting up the night sky."
"That's sounds pretty cool." Ruby commented.
"Glad you think so," Ky grinned "So how was your the rest of your day? Had any more trouble?"
"No, it was pretty good. Actually, Weiss came back to the room and apologized to me." Ruby said, before holding up her cup. "She even got me coffee. I guess you can say she's warming up to me."
"You think?" Ky questioned. "Who wouldn't want to be around such a talented and cute girl?"
Hearing that, Ruby's eyes widened in surprise and almost caused her to drop her coffee, heat rushing up her cheeks quickly at the compliment to her. "W-What?"
Ky's own eyes were widened at what he just said. 'Did I say that outloud? Crap!' He thought to himself. Both were looking at anything but each other, but Ruby did glimpse enough to see the bluenette was as much blushing as she was. Her dad and Yang called her cute many times, but this one felt different. The compliment felt... good, like it brought joy to her being.
Ky then cleared his throat, trying to force his blush down. "S-Say, would you like to spend a few minutes stargazing with me? I did mention that I was trying to find a good place to do that from, so might as well start with this spot since we're already here."
"H-Huh? S-Sure!" Ruby shyly accepted the offer, and took a seat by the bluenette. They sat in silence for a few moments, not really sure what to say.
After a moment, Ruby released a soft sigh. "Well, we just survived our first official day at Beacon."
"Yeah, I guess we can call that an accomplishment," Ky agreed. "And we still have three more years to go."
"Here's to hoping to the next few years go off without a hitch!" Ruby chirped, holding up her coffee.
"Cheers to that!" Ky grinned, raising his soda too.
The duo tapped their drinks together and gazed up at the stars with smiles, without the weight of any concerns or problems to bring down the mood.
