Chapter 1: Isolation

Wasn't expecting that chapter to turn out that way, huh?

"Mountain Glenn was a catastrophic failure. The news of its death spread like wildfire. Ever since that incident, all four kingdoms never bothered expanding outside their reach. They all believed that the Grimm are powerful and unstoppable, capable of destroying such large settlements in a short period. But we all know who's behind this, brothers and sisters, they are here. Brooding in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike when we are weak. So we must prepare for the worst, and pray to the Gods that he will come to our aid." - Words from a priest from the Order of the Broken Twilight

It's too quiet here. There should be at least a sizeable force of Grimm in the area.

Bodies. Bodies everywhere. Some are just mangled, rotting corpses. Some are just missing limbs. The Grimm are relentless, mindless, and fearless creatures of the dark. They will attack anyone who shows any sign of fear or anger or any negative emotion just to have it for themselves. It's more or less their drug, or food.

If you ain't seeing one. Something's fucked. Really fucked. Someone or something must be driving them back.

I pick up the pace. Waking up in a tomb inside of a bigger tomb is one thing. But complete and utter silence is another. No activity. No signs of recent clashes. None.

I can't help it but feel like I'm being watched. From the ground beneath me to the heavens above. I'm forced to ignore this uneasy feeling in my chest.

Looking up, the wrecked office building showed no signs of life but the whistle of the wind carrying dust. I shrugged and kept going, but pumped my shotgun. No one is going to get the jump on me today.

Turning right from a random avenue, I kept my body closer to the walls. Less chance of getting jumped from above.

Wait a minute, a dead end. An alley. Gotta turn back before-

Whoosh

Ah shit. Something just moved on my left above the roof.

Whoosh

To the right this time. I got to see the thing much clearer. Large, boney spines and red eyes. Hunched down to avoid detection and a snarl that follows every breath.

Beowolves.

Oh shit-

Just my luck, the third Beowolf jumped me from above. I fell for the simplest diverging tactic in history. Great. If everyone could see this now...

The Beowolf pinned me to the ground with its large claws. It spun me around so I could face the damn thing. Fortunately, this one began to lick my face like a pet dog. I tried swatting its face away but something told me that it would be best to let it lick me. Enjoy the little things like these when no one would.

After what felt like minutes, the wolf hopped back a couple of feet away from me. I slowly got up and wipe my face using the leather sleeves and took the shotgun off the ground. The two Beowolves that distracted me hopped down behind their supposed leader of three.

"You lots never change, do you?"

The leader Beowolf barked with its tongue poking out (the smug bastard). I shook my head disappointed. No respect for the father, I see. After all these years trapped in here.

"Where are we? Actually, where am I?"

The Beowolf squats down and scribbled five letters into the dirt road:

'GLENN'

My mind instantly took me back to a memory when Glenn was just a pipe dream. Vale's first expansion. Just a rumor, a gossip. Now, everything is gone. Dead. They did this. All of them.

"But there should be more of you here. Why is this place so empty?"

The Beowolf emitted a low growl and dug its claw deeper into the dirt road. With anger and hate, it managed to make a sentence.

'THEY ARE HERE'

Before I could ask, everything stopped. I felt air left my lungs, but I didn't feel like I'm drowning. This sensation feels... familiar. Yes. Familiar. But I couldn't put a finger on why...

"Perhaps. We could be of assistance."

(Y/N) turned around, and he saw two women dressed in black and white cloaks in that order. They both bowed in a respectful manner.

"Ms. Life and Dr. Death. I haven't seen you beauties in a long while. The last time I've seen you both is when..." (Y/N) trailed off as he remembers his hand reaching out for the two before he was shut off by the coffin's stone lid.

A pair of hands rest on your shoulders, (Y/N)'s head jerks up to see Dr. Death's worried gaze behind her shrouded face.

"Did you remember what happened?" She asked. (Y/N) nodded before exhaling through his nose.

"I felt betrayed. Your brothers decided to seal me off when everything was so close to being united as one."

Death's hands gripped his shoulders tighter. "There is nothing I can do to stop my brother. Me and my sister can't stop them no matter how hard we try. You already know this fact, yes?"

Silence. And a scoff left (Y/N)'s mouth.

"I never wanted to stay in this fucking planet in the first place."

Death frowned at that statement and shook her head in disappointment.

"We can talk about this later. There is something more urgent to discuss." The Goddess of Death said before everything resumed back to normal.

The Beowolves jumped as they saw Life walking towards them. The cute and innocent-looking women stared at the frightened Beowolves before making the biggest sadistic smile of the century.

"...Boo."

The Beowolves yipped in terror as they ran away with their tails between their legs.

(Y/N) chuckled at the sight and pats the angel on the head. Life jumped a bit before looking at him in the eyes. Then she looked away as her face began to turn into something similar to a tomato. Or something redder than that.

"I guess some things never change, do they?" (Y/N) asked with a smile before lifting his hand out. He turns around to face Death, not noticing the pout that Life made.

"So, where are you two taking me for our date?" He asked as the shrouded figure. The goddess gasped in surprise before covering up her face up using her cloak.

"N-Now's not the time to say such things! Me and my sister are here to escort you to the only tunnel connecting Glenn and Vale and that's it!" She stuttered, her words muffled by the fabric of her cloak.

(Y/N)'s smile turned mischievous as he grabs one of Death's hand and intertwined them together. The unprepared deity was shocked and embarrassed that a man like him, risen from his rest, would do this at a moment's notice despite the situation the world is currently in. But then again, he is similar to that of a god, so he isn't normal to begin with.

"You're going to pay for this." She said, trying her best to get mad at him.

"Mhm. Sure." (Y/N) mused as he stuffs his weapon inside his leather jacket. Death's sister then wraps her arms around his free arm. He looked at her and looked back at Death before nodding.

With that, Death snaps her fingers. In an instant, the three of them were gone. As if they were never there in the first place.

//End

So yeah, an introduction of the first two minor deities of Remnant. Life and Death. As you can see, their the complete fucking opposite. Well, let me just put a short description below. It's better that way.

Name: Death- The Avatar of Death

Nickname: "Dr. Death" "Matilda"

Description: The Goddess of Death herself. Well, the avatar so to speak. She is often quiet, but when the need to speak arises. Death will talk if she has to. Other than that, she would always keep her thoughts to herself. A common misconception that everyone think its true is that Death always lurk around dying people. Men and women, children and elderly, waiting for their souls to be collected. However, Death is fair, and fair with her judgement. Everyone has a second chance for those who deserve it. Unfortunately, she cannot be everywhere in the world, and only a handful are lucky enough to be saved by such an unfortunate fate.

Name: Life- The Avatar of Life

Nickname: "The Cruel Mistress" "Astrid"

Description: Have you ever heard of the phrase, "Life is a cruel mistress?". Well, that's exactly what is happening here. The aggressive sister of Death likes to act innocent despite her tendencies to take life away despite her namesake. Anything that somehow can avoid her entirely would end up in her first priority kill list. Life likes to torture her victims in cruel ways. A series of unfortunate events would occur to the victim until they give themselves up. Like her sister, the toughest and the most patient can break through this horrible barrier. That's if you survive her unfair trials.
