Chapter 1
Chapter 1
A/N: So I noticed everyone is confused as to why and how the armies of remnant were able to invade earth the way they did. I don't blame you but believe me I will explain it all in time and in the best of my abilities. I will try to make it make sense, but I ask you to at least keep an open mind. I am taking all criticism, reviews, and PMs into account when I write this. Any way let's get going.
1466 ADD, 18 years post-Earth Invasion
The City of Vale was a beautiful sight, especially at night. The lights of the various shops, restaurants, and even more extravagant buildings lite the night with a wonderous glow.
Wondering this night was Headmaster Ozpin of Beacon Academy, a prestigious academy that teaches and trains the future generation of Huntsmen. Normally The Headmaster wouldn't be out this late on his own, or at all. However the need for some fresh air was a welcome change. Ever since Ironwood and his fleet made their appearance above the skies of Vale tensions have been running higher then usual. The criminal underworld has gone underground as a result of the Atlesian army's presence, but the citizens of Vale feel differently, and such differences has led to some heated topics with the Council.
Ozpin walked through the near desolate street ever watchful. He analyzed the people that he walked passed and saw across the open street. A young couple wildly in love, a man riding a motorcycle, a shop owner closing up for the night, a police car with its two officers biting onto some donuts, and a homeless man sitting in an alleyway. It pained Ozpin to see such happenings in the world. He remembered a time when the Kingdoms would go out of their way to help the less fortunate. Of course, he was King at that time.
Ozpin took his strides towards the homeless man passing a few Lien Cards to the man, receiving a heartfelt thanks as he did so, and continued on his way. In light of how the world was with its evil and darkness, it was enlightening to know that sometimes people would come together in times of need. Oh, how Ozpin wished that more people would unite to right wrongs done in the past.
The wind picked up and a crisp breeze passed Ozpins neck. He turned his body and swiveled his head glancing for the cause of the sudden change of air and spark of a feeling in his gut. Ozpin squinted and looked at one area of the street. He felt something. It felt odd, and familiar.
A blue and purple glow illuminated from that exact position on the street. The light moved and swirled into itself. The movements continued until the center of the light opened showing a dark light on the other side. The center opening expanded until it looked like the size of a doorway. And its function was that exact thing.
A body stepped through the light. He was dressed in some old, tattered clothing and wore a helmet on his head. His face was cold and expressionless as he gazed around the area. In his hands was what looked like a firearm, while a short sword hung in a scabbard on his hip. And on his shoulder was a patch. The design was one that made Ozpins eyes widen. It's design was of red and white stripes, a blue corner with several white stars in it. This man was an Earthling.
The Earthling continued his gaze around the street and his eyes eventually landed on Ozpin. He stared at him, specifically his cane, and squinted his eyes studying the Headmaster. Ozpin felt the need to level his cane into his combat position, mentally moving his arm as his thoughts laid the picture. The Earthling's empty hand slowly reached towards the barrel of his weapon keeping the muzzle down as if to not start anything. Ozpin stopped his subconscious movement and noticed the Earthling did the same. Both men glared at each other but did not raise their weapons. A further look into the Earthlings eyes told Ozpin all he needed. This man wasn't looking for a fight, but he would retaliate any hostile actions if he had to.
The mans eyes darted to down the road, Ozpin followed his gaze and saw the two police officers had exited their car hands on the grips of their handguns but had yet to draw. These two officers weren't trained for heavy firefights, but they were trained to read the emotions of human faces. They too saw that the Earthling wouldn't fight if not provoked, but that wouldn't stop them from being ready.
The stare down continued as the men wouldn't dare move. The other occupants of the street had stopped their activities to watch in suspense. Then, as if fate had decreed it, an Atlesian patrol vehicle came around the corner. The vehicle screeched to a halt and half a dozen Atlesian Soldiers exited and immediately open with hostile aggression.
"Lay down your weapons now!" The sergeant ordered. The Earthling shifted his gaze to each soldier analyzing their positions and arms. The Atlesian weapons would be unfamiliar to the Earthling, but Ozpin knew the advances in military technology after the first war nearly two decades ago.
"I said lay down your weapons! Now!" the sergeant barked. The Earthling made no such action, instead he back himself up intending to walk back through the blue and purple rift.
"Freeze!" The Earthling didn't. He eyed the Atlesians with a steely glare before he turned around to hop into the light. At this moment did one of the Atlesian Soldiers fire. The shot bounced off the Earthlings helmet, however he immediately turned around and opened fire himself. The bullets sprayed down the street and impacted the soldiers designated cover as the Earthling moved to the right of the street crouching behind a car.
"Open fire!" Shouted the sergeant, his soldiers following his order.
"Wait! Stop shooting, we're in a public area!" Ozpin cried, but his voice fell on deaf ears, or it was ignored intently. The gun fight ensued with the Earthling taking precise shots clipping one of the Atlesians in the shoulder and another in the leg. The Atlesians responded in kind, firing at the Earthling with all due intent on killing him.
The Earthling popped up from his cover and angled the barrel of his weapon. The long tube underneath it was pointed at the Atlesians and launched a large projectile towards them. the projectile impacted onto the Atlesian patrol vehicle and exploded into a mass of fire causing the vehicle to combust in sequence, engulfing one of the Atlesians soldiers inside the flame, his screams heard all throughout the street as the flames seared away his flesh.
The Atlesian Sergeant grabbed hold of a metal canister from his belt and twisted the top. A red light flashed as beeping was heard coming from the canister. The Sergeant threw the canister towards the Earthling and exploded right before touching the car he was hiding behind. Red flames shot over and around the car engulfing it as the flame seared both legs of the Earthling causing him to yell in anguish.
The Sergeant motioned for two of his remaining Soldiers to advance and collect the Earthling. Rounding the burning vehicle the two soldiers saw the broken and burnt legs of the Earthling as he wailed in pain, but it was only fair. He killed one of their friends with his own Flame Grenade.
A gun shot rang out and the head of one of the soldiers exploded as his body began its descent to the floor. Ozpin turned his gaze back to the Blue and Purple anomaly witnessing that another Earthling had emerged. After that another came through, and then a third. These three opened fire on the remaining Atlesians and the two police officers.
The bullets from both sides were flaring all over the place. Ricocheting off metal and impacting into the brick and wood buildings on the street. This firefight needed to end now, Ozpin new that. Sooner or later the whole of Vales police, and military would convene on this position. Even Ironwood would send his ships to provide air cover and even drop his new robot soldiers if necessary.
Ozpin took up his cane and swung it around twice, regaining his feel for his weapon. He stepped into a position and launched himself forward causing the three Earthlings to recoil in surprise. Ozpin reached the first of the Earthlings and swung a three-strike combo knocking his opponent onto the ground. The second earthling discarded his firearm and reached for a sword that hung at his waist. He drew it and stood into a similar position. Ozpin noticed the mans eyes tracking his leg movement more then that of his arm. This Earthling was not only skilled, but he had encountered a sword wielding Huntsman before back during the war. If he was here now that meant three things. One, this Earthling was skilled enough to kill a Huntsman. Two, he was spared by the Huntsman. Or three, he witnessed the Huntsman in action and managed to learn his combat style. The first option was possible but unlikely. Very few Huntsmen were killed during the war. The second option was more tangible, seeing that most Huntsmen were used as scouts and tended to spare any captured opponent they ran into during their missions. The third option was most likely as this man looked fairly young enough that he wouldn't have been fighting during the war.
The Earthling launched his own attack at Ozpin throwing a five-swing combo, easily blocked by the Beacon academy Headmaster. Ozpin responded with a different three strike combo, to which the Earthling repelled and recuperated with his own three strikes. Ozpin studied the mans legs and his stance along with the coordination of his arms. Ozpin recognized the style. It was utilized by one Gerald Grey. A Huntsman who graduated Beacon same time as Glynda did. He died during the war, but how was his technique passed down to an Earthling?
Ozpin countered a two-strike offensive from the man and with a fake swing from the right Ozpin changed direction and swung his whole body around and kicked the Earthling in the head, sending his backwards near the anomaly. The third Earthling grabbed a metal canister, pulled the pin, and threw it onto the floor. Immediately smoke expanded from the canister, impeding the sight of all but Ozpin. His years upon years of combat mastery allowed him to use his hearing and smell for his sight. Skills he learned from ancient Mistrali War Monks.
Ozpin heard the shuffling of feet to his right and front. However the sounds seemed as if the Earthlings were moving away from the smoke. They were retreating. Ozpin smelled the burnt crisp of the one Earthlings legs moving in the direction that the anomaly would be. Ozpin moved through the smoke and emerged to the right of said anomaly. There he saw the first Earthling he knocked away helping the burnt one. The Earthling who threw the smoke was covering his compatriots retreat. The second Earthling Ozpin knocked away stood up and was immediately through the anomaly, followed by the other two. The one covering the retreat ceased his firing to run through the Anomaly himself but caught a bullet in the throat before falling through the anomaly, it closing immediately afterwards.
Ozpin sighed and noticed the smoke was dissipating. He glanced at the Atlesians and took stock. Two Atlesians were dead, two were wounded, leaving the Sergeant, his one last man, and the two officers unscathed. Two destroyed vehicles and many buildings with bullet holes around them. Vale Cities maintenance services had quite a day tomorrow. As did he.
