Chapter 1: Origin
Remnant...a world that has been undergoing wars since the beginning of humanity. Between the Humans, Faunus, and Grimm, there was always some sort of war going on.
Y/N L/N. That was you. You weren't anything special. Merely a worker for a small Dust company. If you're unfamiliar with the stuff, Dust is a special powder that allow Huntsmen and Huntresses to artificially use Elemental Magic. Fire, Water, Ice, Lightning, Etc.
You worked with a group of men whose job was to simply transfer varying amounts of dust across the kingdom to shops. Simple as that.
You didn't have any friends or acquaintances, and you left your Mother's home to work at a very young age. Therefore you didn't have many people to talk to. Work was the only thing on your mind.
It was a cold snowy evening. You sighed in slight annoyance, growing tired of the today's routine. The task itself wasn't very difficult. All you had to do was wait until you reached a shop, stamp the crate, and finish the delivery.
You didn't even drive the delivery truck or keep track of sales. You were still a little too young to be trusted with that kind of stuff. Therefore all you did was haul crates into buildings.
However it was because of that simple task that the days would become very boring very quickly. You were beginning to desire more out of life rather than just driving around with a couple of random guys.
Watching things pass the window, it felt like hours had passed by before you and your coworkers had reached your destination.
It was a cozy little store which honestly didn't seem like the kind of place to be selling dust. But the quality of the dust varied on the company, and most of your deliveries were...on the lower side in terms of quality.
You had been working here for roughly a year and a half and only once had you delivered Dust that was actually high quality.
Worker: Hey, Y/N, get off your lazy ass and let's get moving.
You groaned in annoyance. The workers here weren't exactly the jolliest people. Though, in all fairness, they probably don't like their jobs anymore than you do. Delivering small amounts of dust to small shops in the middle of nowhere, it was boring, and underpaying.
Y/N: Yeah, Yeah. I'm going...
Picking up the assigned crate, the back of the truck opened up as you hopped out with the dust in hand. Making your way into the shop as your coworkers waited impatiently.
Running the place was an old lady. She couldn't have been younger than 70. The place looked to be nearly abandoned, and it seemed that nobody had even shopped here in years.
Old Lady: Oh! You must be the delivery boy! Thank you so much, dear!
Y/N: No problem, Ma'am. Just sign here.
Old Lady: Of course!
As the lady searched for a pen, you started to feel a little creeped out by sheer emptiness of this shop. You couldn't even see where the Dust was kept.
Eventually the lady found a Pen and signed the papers. With that, you waved her goodbye and took off. Hopping back into the truck and driving off with your coworkers.
Worker: Took you long enough...let's go.
With that you leaned back against the wall and waited for your next stop. This was all your life was at this point.
As you listened to your coworkers ponder about random things in the background, you began to doze off, but the occasional bumps that the truck would inevitably hit would keep you awake.
BOOM!!!
Your dozing off was brought to an abrupt end when the sounds of a large explosion could be heard from outside. Checking the windows, you could see that it was from behind the truck in the distance.
Even crazier, it was extremely close. Most likely the store that you just delivered Dust to.
Worker: You heard that too, right?!
Worker 2: Y-Yeah...should we go back and see if everything is okay...?
Y/N: Are you dumb?! We barely get paid enough to do our own jobs, let the Police handle that crap...just speed it up, won't you...?
As the truck began to pick up in speed, you listened to the roaring engine. Meanwhile your coworkers stayed silent for a few minutes until one of them spoke up.
Worker 2: Man...good thing we didn't get caught in whatever that was...I wonder if that lady is okay...
Worker: If that explosion was in fact from that shop, she's probably dead—
Before he could even finish that sentence, a sword suddenly penetrated the front windshield out of nowhere. Piercing the driver's shoulder and nearly causing an accident.
Worker 2: OH SHIT...!!! DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!!!
Worker: CRAP...! I'M GOING AS FAST AS I CAN!!
Y/N: Don't go too fast!! These roads are practically frozen solid!! We'll crash!!
However it was far too late for that. You then felt something hit the right side of the truck with extreme force. Powerful enough to send the entire truck tumbling down a hill.
With so many crates in the back, it didn't take long before one of them hit your head, knocking you unconscious.
Time Skip
Slowly regaining consciousness, you felt the cold snow against your skin. Your entire body was aching and bleeding. You couldn't hear much, but you did hear a voice speaking from afar.
???: You were supposed to steal the dust, not destroy it entirely. Idiots...whatever...we're lucky that this was only a small amount. Let's get moving.
Not even having the energy to get up, you slowly looked to your left to see the truck completely destroyed in a blaze of flames. Next to it were your coworkers. Both of them were Dead.
With your injuries, you were certain that you would die here as well. Looking at the dark, cloudy sky as snowflakes sprinkled all over your body.
Y/N: What even happened...? One second we were on the road, the next we're here...
Barely being able to clench your hand into a fist, you took a deep breath, and coughed up a little bit of blood.
Y/N: Is this really how I die...? Stranded in the middle of nowhere...knocked into the cold woods by a couple of assholes...?
With nothing left to do at this point, all you could do was accept your fate. Staring into the sky as the life in your eyes began to slowly fade.
Y/N: I...didn't even try to fulfil my dream...when I was a kid...I always wanted to be a Huntsman...I thought they were so cool...heh...speaking of cool......I feel so.........cold.........
With your final thoughts in mind, you slowly began to close your eyes. Like you said, your entire body felt incredibly cold...even on the inside.
And just like that, everything went dark...
At least...for a brief moment. As you felt the life leaving your body, you didn't realize that your body was glowing.
Opening your eyes once again, you looked at your chest and noticed this. Turns out, the Water and Ice dust had soaked through your open wounds a little more than expected.
This was a chain reaction between the dust entering your body and interacting with your Aura which was being unlocked for the very first time.
This Chain Reaction quickly turned into a mutation in your body. Wounds began to close, but not heal entirely. You could feel your organs undergoing a drastic shift in temperature.
It was painful, but the pain merely lasted for a few moments. When it was over, you had completely changed.
Sitting upwards, you felt that your hair had grown drastically longer, not only that, your H/C hair was now as white as the snow surrounding you.
Looking at the reflection through the truck's window, you could also see that your eyes had changed colour. They were now a dark shade of blue. They looked like sapphires.
By sheer luck, you had became the world's first dust-mutated man. Your hair and eyes had changed, and your body felt strange, but who knows what else this new body could achieve?
Getting up from the ground, you looked at your surroundings, not knowing where to go from here. Your coworkers were deceased, your only method of transportation was trashed and burned, and you had no idea where you were.
You decided to move north. Taking one last look at the damage caused before venturing forth. Hoping to find something or even someone who could help, while leaving a trail of blood stains in the snow behind you.
