Chapter 5: The Sudden Gale

Blake had her hands to her mouth, holding back a gasp, not even a second later it was her lunch. Yang's lilac eyes were wide with horror, though they were slowly morphing into deep scarlet. A ruthless execution was all it was, nothing more. All Yang felt was sheer, unadulterated anger. Her hair began to flare up.

"You... damned monster!" Yang yelled out loud. Cocking a round in Ember Celicia and firing off a round towards Foehn. Only for it to be intercepted by Rio, who leaped in front of his boss and sliced the incoming charge in half, all in what seemed like the blink of an eye. It was clear to both Yang and Blake that this guy was no regular mercenary.

"Semblance?..." Blake asked Yang.

"Semblance," Yang replied with a nod, cracking her knuckles.

"Too little, too late... 'Heroes'..." Foehn declared, sheathing his machetes. Rio stood on guard against the two huntresses, ready for any surprises as the Nordwind henchmen pulled out along with the crates of dust they robbed from the train. Raising themselves into the bullhead via the winch.

"I know those faces anywhere... all over the wanted posters back in Atlas." He continued, pacing back and forth slowly. "The bitches who brought the Atlesian military down when the world needed it most, where are your other two little friends? Dead, hopefully."

"Sorry to dissapoint... but your henchmen are dissapointing us." Yang replied. "Wasn't exactly too hard dispatching them."

"Funny, I thought the same of her..." Foehn gave a condenscending side-glance to the decapitated corpse. "In due time, you and your precious team will understand. And only then it will be too late."

"Tunnel!" One of the Nordwind mercenaries warned from the bullhead, prompting Foehn to hop onto the winch to get onto the bullhead before the train entered the Terrinton Tunnel, the longest man-made structure in all of Remnant.

Yang and Blake leapt quickly to try and stop Foehn from leaving, though they were both stopped by Rio. The swordsman skillfully deflected a barrage of quick attacks from Blake, lashing out with a firm downward slash. Pulsar's light blue blade with Gambol Shroud, emitting another metallic ring. While Blake was able to block it, the raw strength behind Rio's swing sent her sliding backwards. Yang got up close, deflected Rio's swings with the forearm of her metal arm as well as with her gauntlet, eventually backflipping away to avoid a wide horizontal swing from the swordsman.

"They're all yours Reyes!" Foehn called from the bullhead as it veered off to get to the other end of the tunnel, ensuring that Rio could be picked up later. But right now, he had to fend for himself against both Blake and Yang. Nonetheless, Rio wore a smirk of utmost confidence as he faced down the two huntresses. The swordsman nodded at his superior before turning to face Blake and Yang, blade at the ready.

"This'll be fun..." Rio smirked, raising his sword and entering a defensive stance. Yang crashed her fists together, her hair beginning to glow, Blake unsheathed Gambol Shroud, preparing to unleash a variety of attacks with both her blade and cleaver.

Pulsar's blade glowed as it shone with a dull hue, the train soon entered the tunnel as Rio kept his stance steady. Ready for anything that his opponents could throw at him. Luckily for him, there were lights installed in the tunnel that helped to keep the battlefield illimunated as the train sped through.

Yang was the first to attack, charging forth and bringing with her a barrage of left and right hooks which Rio dodged before she fired at the ground itself to get him to a distance. Rio leapt out of the way, and Yang fired everything she had, only for Rio to unleash a flurry of blows in a mere millisecond. Eviscerating the dust rounds Yang had fired at him.

"What!?" She yelled as her head perked up in bewilderment. Barely noticing Blake dashing past her to attack Rio head on.

"We'll take him together!" Blake called out. Jumping towards Rio to use her signature move, using her shadow clones to confuse her opponent before dishing out a strike. Hopefully distracting him enough for Yang to dive in and land a hit.

Rio swung at Blake's shadow clone, then another, and another. All too quickly he caught onto Blake's little game and what her semblance was, his heavily modified scabbard fired off a wind dust round which destroyed a third shadow clone while blowing the real Blake away.

"Old tricks die hard." Rio said, blowing off the steam emenating from his scabbard. Reminiscent of an old-school sheriff. He looked at Blake in particular, giving her a cocky grin. "Self taught, and not half bad. But your technique still... lacks something."

Yang heard clicking from her gauntlets as she tried to fire them, she swore underneath her breath. No more ammo, and this guy was good... very good.

"What now Blake?" Yang asked her partner. "Bumblebee?"

"Too enclosed for that..." Blake said, shaking her head quickly as she got back up.

"Is that really all to come from the great Team RWBY?" Rio boasted, still with that laid-back smile on his face. "Pathetic."

"You don't even know half of it..." Yang replied back, her anger flaring up even more. "I wouldn't expect less from mercenary scum..."

Rio cocked his head to the right slightly, his wide smirk turning to a slight grin as he chuckled a little. This one had a real mouth on her...

"Such a big smart mouth for someone who brought fists to a swordfight." He replied, "Or should I just say 'a fist'?"

Yang's mechanical arm clenched its hand tightly while Blake charged once again. Rio's slash dissipated her shadow clone while Blake leapt off of the tunnel walls to attack him from the side. He blocked it and was able to skillfully disarm her of her cleaver, but another flanking maneuver from Yang allowed her to hit him with all she got. Launching him all the way to another flatbed car where he stuck Pulsar into the surface to halt his momentum. The two huntresses quickly made they way over to him where the fight continued.

Yang's rapid punches were skillfully parried, before a firm slash with Rio's sword knocked her away. Blake flung her sickle at him which he deflected, allowing her to yank the ribbon to pull the trigger of the sickle's pistol, letting it gain immense momentum. She used her ribbon to fling her sickle multiple times at Rio from indirect angles, all of which he deflected with ease before she pulled it back into her hand.

'That could only be a semblance... some form of time perception...' She thought to herself. Before Rio sheathed his sword and fired it right out of the scabbard, charging forth and grabbing his blade midair as he brought it down on Blake, who blocked it with both her cleaver and sword. A loud clang erupted from the impact of their blades.

Blake took a step back as the sound of metal grinding against metal intensified. Rio pushed down with all his might onto her, Blake took another step back as Rio's strength slowly began to reign supreme of the two. Blake tried with every fiber of her muscle to resist, though it was clear that Rio was superior.

"Get away from her now!" Yang cried out, recovering from Rio's initial slashes as she flung herself forth. Rio broke the bladelock as he leapt backwards to prepare for Yang's incoming attack.

Yang aggressively charged at him, right fist cocked as her hair shone bright, illuminating the tunnel as all her focus was seemingly right on Rio's face, which she intended to bash the living lights out of. Her focus was not on the fact that he had sheathed Pulsar whilst she was charging him, waiting for her to get as close as possible. His finger on the trigger of his scabbard, just itching to fire at the perfect moment.

Blake's eyes widened seeing this move... finally realizing why Rio's weapon struck very familiar chords with her. Rio was about to perform a move she'd seen done many times before. And she also remembered how Yang was defeated and mutilated while trying to save her back in Vale... she had to warn her.

It all seemed to happen in slow motion, Blake opened her mouth to scream for Yang to move back, to try and attempt to dodge Rio's incoming swing.

"Yang... mov-" She had no time to even warn her as Rio fired out Pulsar once more, catching its handle whilst midair, the added momentum to his attack completely severing Yang's metal arm. Hydraulic fluid and liquid from its energy cells began to spill out as Yang tumbled to a stop behind Rio. It didn't hurt, but it completely took her out of the fight.

"Ah shit!... Not again..." Yang gritted her teeth.

"Now that makes two of us." Rio chuckled, giving a small glance at his own right metal prosthetic. Before his glare fell to Blake, who now stood alone against him. "So... what's next. Kitty cat?"

Blake dual wielded Gambol Shroud, holding a defensive stance as Rio approached her slowly, twirling Pulsar as it made small scratches on the surface of the flatbed car. She didn't want to show it, but she was fearful of her life, and Yang's too. Deep down she almost thought to herself that she wouldn't make it... that she'd probably die here in this tunnel.

"Do you let all your friends fight for you?..." Rio sarcastically asked. "Is the little cat gonna flee, run away to another life?"

"No I won't..." Blake shook her head, before her eyes noticed the growing light at the end of the tunnel. "What about you?..."

The train finally exited the cavern, the Nordwind bullhead waiting for Rio began to hover alongside the train as the winch began to lower. A mercenary signalled for Rio to get on quickly, it was likely that Vacuan authorities were getting closer. Should he stay to finish the job, Nordwind would likely be exposed, Foehn's plans would be ruined. Rio would be out of a job once more.

"Lucky girls." Rio chuckled, grabbing the winch as Blake drew Gambol Shroud and began firing at him. Though it did little to stop his escape as Rio deflected all of her shots, eventually dissapearing into the bullhead.

Gambol Shroud repeatedly clicked as Blake attempted to fire it once more, she sheathed her blade back into its cleaver as she mounted it onto her back. Her amber eyes tightened as the aircraft's silohuette shrunk in the sky, the mercenaries had gotten away.

"I already hate that guy..." Yang said as she got back up, her dismembered metal arm in hand. They could only watch as the bullhead flew away.
