Ruby POV

I am waiting at the newly rebuilt Beacon Academy, run by Glynda Goodwitch, in the courtyard. She requested Team RWBY's help investigating a seemingly minor power issue somewhere in the Emerald Forest. Between you and me though, this seems a little more serious than a simple power outage, why would she ask all of us to come? Zwei's ears twitch, indicating he hears something.

Zwei: *alerting bark*

*motorcycle engine rumble*

I turn around and see Yang on her new motorcycle, Bumblebee 2.0, and comes to stop near me and Zwei. I grow very excited and exclaim...

Ruby: Yang!

Yang removes her helmet and let's her long golden hair down, then focuses on me and replies with a grin.

Yang: Hey sis.

I rush up to Yang, after she dismounts her motorcycle, and give her a tight hug.

Ruby: Oh, It's been too long.

Yang returns my hug in kind, we separate after a few seconds and she asks me.

Yang: So, got any idea what Glynda wants our help with?

I shake my head and shrug my shoulders and reply.

Ruby: I honestly don't know, Yang. All she said was there was a power outage deep in the Emerald Forest, deeper than she'd like to send any students.

Yang tried to think of something and started spouting ideas.

Yang: Maybe she's worried a particularly strong Grimm is hanging around?

I put my fist to my chin and think about it.

Ruby: It's possible, but she could've gotten any Huntsmen to do that. We'll just have to investigate and find out.

Yang nodded in agreement, then knelt down and petted Zwei.

Yang: Hey, Zwei. Who's a good old boy?

Zwei: *happy bark*

Yang: So dad has you watching Zwei?

Ruby: I think he sent him, because of me missing Grimlock so much.

*Airship engines rumbling*

Yang and I look up as Zwei barks and see a fancy white ship with some blueish flags hanging off the wings. The ship also had the Schnee Dust Company logo on the side.

Yang: Weiss sure knows how to make an entrance.

I could barely contain my excitement as the ship lands. I wait impatiently as the back of the ship opens and we see both Weiss and Blake step off the ship talking. I run forward and hear the tail end of their conversation.

Weiss: ...So, just send me the details and I'll see what I can do on my end. We'll plan from there.

Blake: Thanks Weiss. I just hope it works.

Weiss: We knew this mission was gonna be tough. I'm just glad we're doing it together.

Blake: Likewise.

Ruby: WEISS! BLAKE!

They see me but don't have time to react as I tackle into them and wrap my arms around both of them squealing like a little girl all over again.

Ruby: Oh, I'm so happy to see you both!

Blake laughes softly as she returns my hug and says.

Blake: It's great to see you too, Ruby.

Weiss was a little more, well, Weiss.

Weiss: Ruby! You dolt! How many times do I have to tell you to warn someone before hugging them?!

I get up and pull them both to their feet as Yang and Zwei approached behind me. I replied to Weiss' question.

Ruby: I yelled both of your names before I hugged you.

Yang: Still the Ice Queen we all know, eh Weiss?

Weiss still wasn't happy with my answer, but calmed down a bit and apologized.

Weiss: Sorry, I've just been a little stressed lately.

Ruby: It's okay.

Weiss tried explaining herself.

Weiss: I haven't seen Snarl in 3 months, and he never ignores my calls or texts. I'm really worried about him.

I try to comfort her, but Yang reminded her as well.

Yang: He's a Dinobot, he's probably fine.

I placed a comforting hand on Weiss' shoulder, and she managed a smile and felt a little better. Yang and Blake greet each other and I ask.

Ruby: So, how are Sludge and Slug doing at Beacon?

Blake: *giggles* Sludge calls me everyday to tell me how his day went and how he's keeping bullies in check and looking after their faunus victims.

Yang: Slug told me a similar story, but he's also starting to open up to his team. So that's progress.

Weiss then asks Yang.

Weiss: So, are you and Sam tying the knot anytime soon?

Yang: *chuckles* Not yet. Slug still doesn't trust him. I've asked Sam to support Slug while we're away.

Blake then looks at me and asks.

Blake: Still no word from Grimlock?

I look down a little saddened, I shake my head no and reply.

Ruby: Almost an entire year, and still radio silence.

Weiss took her turn to place a comforting hand on my shoulder.

Yang: Look, I'm sure the Autobots are still keeping a low profile. Robots in disguise right?

I know Yang means well, but I didn't feel much better. Weiss got us back on track.

Weiss: So, shall we see what Professor Goodwitch needs of us?

I break back to reality and agree.

Ruby: Yeah, we don't have all day.

Everyone, including Zwei, follow me into Beacon Academy. We pass through the lunch room, both Yang and Blake wave to their sons. We finally ride the elevator up to the Headmaster's office. We finally enter and see both Professor Port and Goodwitch in the office. Professor Port notices our entry first and happily greets us.

Port: Ah, Team RWBY! Welcome back to Beacon! I trust you've been bringing the fight to the Grimm?

I giggle at Port's enthusiasm and reply.

Ruby: Among other things, yes.

Port: Excellent! I'd expect no less from my best students.

Yang: It's good to see you too, Professor.

Goodwitch: Ahem. I know we're all eager to catch up, but we have a problem to investigate.

Weiss: Of course. What exactly is the problem?

Glynda stands from her chair and walks around in front of the desk and uses her scroll to project a map of various points of interest and explains.

Goodwitch: This is the Beacon Security Network, designed to protect Vale and Beacon Academy from Grimm attacks. Recently, a few of them have sent some alerts to us, requiring us to go and repair them. We need boots on the ground to clear any Grimm and connect those faulty systems to Beacon's so we can figure out how to fix them.

Blake then asks what we're all thinking.

Blake: No offense, Glynda, but this seems a little tame.

Yang: Yeah, you could've easily sent Slug and Sludge to do that. Why ask us?

Glynda face hid her worry, but her eyes couldn't as she stated.

Glynda: Honestly, I don't know what you're going to find, but my gut tells me that there's more going on than just faulty equipment.

The four of us look at each other with mixed reactions, but Yang, Blake and Weiss then grow determined expressions and nodded at me. I grew a confidant smirk and turned my gaze back to Glynda.

Ruby: When do we get started?

Glynda grew a relieved expression as Port stated enthusiastically.

Port: Well said! Like true Huntresses. Onward!

3rd Person POV

Team RWBY ready themselves, Weiss opens up some crates with extra dust cartridges. She fills the ones in her weapons revolver function, then takes belts of others and attaches them around her hips. She then sheaths Myrtenastor.

Blake is seen loading a magazine into Gambol Shroud's hilt, then sheathing it on her back. Blake then makes sure to have extra magazines on her belt. Finally, she makes sure to load up on some ninja stars and poisoned needles in some side pockets.

Yang makes sure her armor is fastened good and snug. She then packs some extra grenades and ammo belts. Before loading Ember Celica to make sure they work properly. She then grabs a metal helmet and places it on her head.

Finally, Ruby uses the bolt-action on her Crescent Rose to load the rifle, before sheathing her weapon in it's holster. Ruby then checks her wrist mounted scroll and press some buttons to ensure it's at maximum operating capacity. Ruby secures her belt that have extra magazines for her weapons attached. She also holsters a .45 caliber pistol on her thigh. Her armored gauntlet is made sure it's fully energized. Finally, Ruby pulls her hood up, while her cape flows in a small gust of wind.

As the women, and Zwei, finish suiting up, the sound of fast paced heavy footsteps are heard getting closer. Blake smiles as she hears a familiar voice calling to her.

Sludge: Mama!

Blake turns around, walks in front of the group and accepts her large son's hug.

Sludge: Sludge miss you.

Blake: *giggles* I miss you too, my sweet boy.

Blake admires her son's increased physique and says proudly.

Blake: You look so strong.

Sludge stands proudly as Blake admires him. Yang then hears another familiar voice.

Slug: What's the big mystery, Yang?

Yang smirks before turning around to her own son. She raises her fist and the two share a fist bump before giving each other a quick hug.

Yang: How you been, Slug?

Slug: Oh, you know, driving my team nuts.

Yang and Slug share a laugh.

Ruby watches the family interactions and grows sad and envious to see her own son. Weiss showed some worry as her thoughts went to Snarl and Swoop. Sludge then asks Blake.

Sludge: Where Mommy go?

Blake responds, trying to keep to words Sludge will understand.

Blake: Ms. Goodwitch asked Mommy and Team RWBY to look into some broken technology.

Sludge: Grimm?

Blake: That's our current theory.

The two boys looked at each other, Slug looked back and said.

Slug: We'll get our armor and weapons.

Yang was quick to try and dissuade him by saying.

Yang: At the moment Slug, it's only a scouting mission. Probably just a lousy Grimm knocked something loose.

Blake reassured Sludge by saying with faux confidance.

Blake: We'll be back by supper time and we can have story time when I get back.

This seemed to ease Sludge's eagerness, but Slug still tried to convince Yang to let him tag along.

Slug: What if more than you bargain for?

Yang stated with more conviction.

Yang: Then you're just a ground bridge away.

Slug stared intently at Yang, she looks back with equal conviction. Eventually, Slug sighs and gives in.

Slug: Fine. We'll wait for your call.

Yang gave Slug a reassuring pat on his shoulder, Blake gave Sludge another hug. Then Team RWBY, and Zwei, board an airship and take off towards the Emerald Forest.

About an hour later, the Airship flies above a forest clearing, Ruby then explains to the others.

Ruby: All right, Team RWBY. According to our Intel, the Security Control Center is somewhere in a cave system. But the Airship can only drop us off in this clearing about 1 mile away. So, we're really gonna have to hoof it once we're on the ground, destroying any Grimm that get in our way.

WBY: Right!

The Airship opens it's side doors, Yang and Ruby kick out some rappelling ropes. The women then slide down the ropes and land on the ground, Yang and Weiss are the last to land, while Ruby and Blake had their guns trained to the undergrowth.

Weiss: Down.

Yang: We're down.

Ruby then radios the Airship.

Ruby: The team have landed, Airship 1.

Airship 1: Copy. We'll be on stand by when you need a pickup.

Ruby: Copy, Airship 1. Keep the engines warm.

Airship 1: Good luck, Huntresses.

The Airship rises and flies away back to Beacon. Ruby checks the map with her wrist mounted scroll and sees a red dot indicating the security control center.

Ruby: The Security Control is 1 mile South. Let's move.

The team start walking through the forest undergrowth. They soon find a well worn path and follow it South. The women soon come down to some old ruins and see some Grimm hanging around.

Ruby: For old times sake, Checkmate!

Blake and Weiss rush forward and breaking up the group, while Ruby stays back and shoots the stragglers. The Grimm come back together as a group, Ruby calls out.

Ruby: Bumblebee!

Blake transforms Gambol Shroud into it's kisurigama form and holds onto the ribbon then throws the weapon at Yang. Yang rushes forward, catches Gambol Shroud and let's Blake spin her around a couple of times before pulling her forward.

Yang: *warcry*

Yang reels her fist back and punches the ground so hard it creates not only and explosion that kills the Grimm, but also a sizable crater in the dirt. The other girls looked a little astonished since they hadn't seen each other for a while, Yang then climb out of the crater and non chalantly dusted herself off.

Blake: Wow Yang. That was...

Ruby: AWESOME!

Yang simply smirked and said.

Yang: Well, having a Dinobot for a training partner for 5 years has it's perks. I wasn't even trying that hard.

Weiss: Uhm, that is beyond impressive. Are you sure that wasn't your Semblance at work?

Yang: Positive.

After getting over their astonishment, Professor Port is heard through Ruby's scroll.

Port: *over radio* Hello, Team RWBY. Do you copy?

Ruby is quick to respond.

Ruby: This Ruby. We read you loud and clear, Port.

Port: *over radio* Wonderful. I've heard you had made landfall near the Security Control Center.

Ruby: We're still roughly a Kilometer away from the cave system.

Port: *over radio* Not to worry. I'll be around to help fix the control system when you reach it.

Ruby: Copy.

As the group walks under a ruined archway and Blake asks.

Blake: I still wonder how old these ruins are, and who built them?

Port replies over Ruby's scroll.

Port: *over radio* That is one of Vale's longest enduring mysteries. If you find any artifacts, I'm sure Doctor Oobleck would be pleased to pay you for them.

Ruby looks at Weiss and she simply shrugs and says.

Weiss: It couldn't hurt.

The women continue making their way through the ruins, picking up some artifacts along the way, and defeating more Grimm. Finally the group make it to the cave entrance. Weiss uses some fire dust infused with her Myrtenastor, as a torch to light the way. The walls of the cave are littered with various types of Dust crystals. Shortly after, the group arrive to a more open area of the cave system, in the middle of the area the women see a tall cylinder looking device. Ruby contacts Professor Port again and says into her scroll.

Ruby: Professor? We've found the Security Control Device. Looking into what the problem might be.

Blake approaches closest and walks around and soon sees a red box attached to the side of the of the Control Device. The red box had a strange symbol on it.

Blake: Check this out.

The others approach and see the device, Yang tries to reach out to touch it as she says....

Yang: Hmm, What is this thing?

Weiss was quick to grab Yang's hand and stop her from touching and explains.

Weiss: We have no idea what this thing is or what it does. Please don't touch it.

Yang nods and pulls her hand back, Weiss then pulls out her scroll and uses it to scan the device. She then talks to Professor Port over Ruby's scroll.

Weiss: Professor Port. I just sent you a scan of a strange device attached to the Security Control Device. Any ideas on what it is?

The scene cuts to Professor Port opening the scan of said device. He soon scratches his chin and thinks before responding.

Port: Hmm, I feel like I've seen that symbol before.... Nevermind that for now, I'll get to work on undoing the damage to the Security Network. Hang tight and keep your head on a swivel.

The scene cuts back to Team RWBY in the cave, Ruby then tells the others.

Ruby: Weiss, connect your scroll to the Security Device and help Port. We'll keep you covered.

Weiss: Right.

Blake and Yang ready their weapons and take up defensive positions around Weiss and the Security Control Device. Ruby soon followed when a Grimm howl is heard. A few seconds later and some Creepers and Beowolves are seen charging for the group. Yang slams her fists together and shouts.

Yang: Let's do this!

Ruby, Blake and Yang start by firing their weapons. As the horde gets closer, Yang stops firing and charges right at the Grimm. Yang is effortlessly beating back the Beowolves, Blake focuses on the Creepers, and Ruby takes out the Alpha Creepers with Crescent Rose's sniper rifle function. Yang is clearly still having fun, even though she's defeated many Grimm.

Yang: Ha ha!

Yang launches herself at the horde, then punches out several Creeper Grimm, breaking through the horde. She reaches a Beowolf and punches it in the head, killing it on the spot. She lands on her feet and turns right uppercutting another Beowolf. She turns back and uppercut several Creepers with both her fists. She uses a hammer fist technique to smash a Creeper into the ground. She then uses a heavy right hook to kill two more Creepers. As several Beowolves surround Yang, she clasps her hands together, interlacing her fingers, lifts them above her head, then slams it down on the ground. The resulting shockwave launches all the Beowolves into the air. Yang then turns left and punches a stalagmite into small pieces, she then turns right and does the same to another stalagmite. The small pieces fly into the air killing the Beowolves still falling to the ground.

Yang: *Warcry*

Blake keeps firing her pistol until the Creepers get too close, she then switches her weapon to it's katana form and slices through three with ease. She then dashes forward and slice through several Creepers and Beowolves, she sheathes her katana, the Grimm then drop to the ground dead and turn to ash.

Ruby kept firing her rifle, then transformed it into it's scythe mode, then steps between the Grimm and Weiss. She then easily slices through every Grimm that closes in with smooth, fluid slices.

Ruby: Status!

Weiss checks their progress and quickly says.

Weiss: Just need a few more minutes!

Yang continues having fun, while Blake handles any flankers and Ruby defends Weiss. Soon Weiss disconnects her scroll and shouts....

Weiss: Done!

Weiss then stands draws her Myrtenastor and summons a white glyph and soon says.

Weiss: Get clear!

Yang and Blake move back to the group and Weiss summons a flock of small Nevermore's and destroys the remaining horde. The flock disappears as the Grimm turn to ash, Weiss takes a slight exhale and the others sheath their weapons as Port is heard over Ruby's scroll.

Port: *over radio* Well done, Team RWBY! I never doubted you for a second. It seems another Security Control Device has gone down nearby. Sending you the location.

Ruby: We're on our way.
