Prologue
This story is heavily inspired by Akaninger39 and his story, 'RWBY: The Duelist Experience'.
Disclaimer: The following story will take elements from official material, fan games, and fan theories alike. If something is unfamiliar to you, feel free to ask, and I will do my utmost best to explain it without potentially giving away too much involving the story.
Centuries ago, the Borrian people were enveloped in a great war with a foreign land. When all seemed lost, the Borrian king summoned a powerful force to help turn the tide of battle. Unfortunately, the war ended in defeat when the king of the foreign land unleashed a devastating weapon. Disgruntled, the Borrian army returned home.
The people, now enraged against the Borrian king, attempted a coup by manipulating the dark force summoned during the war. The Borrian king was able to seal away its power, however, and the coup was thwarted.
This dark force was the mythical Pokémon Hoopa. With its rings, it could open portals to elsewhere. One such ring opened a portal to a land void of any Pokémon. However, it housed dangerous creatures of jet black fur, hellish red eyes, and white skeletal armor.
The hoop used to connect the Pokémon world with this strange land was thankfully closed before any monsters from either side could meet. Yet, there was a couple who bore witness to such a strange event. It seemed that it was a once in a lifetime event, yet these two had an extensive lifetime. And soon, their world and the Pokémon will intertwine, one way or another.
Lumiose City, Kalos
"Professor, I'm here!" Walking inside the lab of Prof. Sycamore was a young man named (Y/n).
He was dressed in dark gray joggers, wearing black socks with some black running shoes that had yellow accents on them as well as yellow laces and white soles. For his top, he wore an off-white tee and had an unzipped windbreaker hung over the chair he relaxed in. On his head was a white and gray cap with a badge pinned on the front of it.
"Ah, (Y/n), I'm over here at my desk!" Replied the professor.
(Y/n) nodded and walked around the lab before reaching Sycamore's desk. The professor looked up and smiled at (Y/n).
Professor Sycamore is a middle-aged Pokémon professor with curly black hair, bluish eyes, and facial hair. He wears a blue shirt, black pants, a yellow belt with a circular buckle, orange socks, and brown trainers with gray stripes.
"It's good to see you again, (Y/n)." The professor greeted warmly.
"Good to see you too."
"Please, have a seat." He motioned to a chair in front of his desk. As (Y/n) sat down, the professor began to speak.
"I know you're curious as to why I asked you to come here. The truth of the matter is, there's trouble brewing." He said with seriousness. This caught (Y/n)'s attention.
"Lay it on me, Professor."
"Well, first off, do you know about the region of Borrius?"
"I've heard about it. From what I hear, it's a region that has a bountiful amount of Pokémon there."
"Correct. That region also happened to be one that Kalos went to war with." Sycamore said as he began sifting through papers on his desk. "During the war, the Kalos army was suddenly warped back to their home territory."
"Warped?" (Y/n) questioned.
"Yes, you heard me correctly. The army was warped back suddenly. The cause for this was the elusive Pokémon, Hoopa. The Borrian king grew lustful for battle and used Hoopa's very power to bring his army to Kalos. The weeks went by, and that's when the king of Kalos launched the Ultimate Weapon. That was the nail in the coffin for the war."
Sycamore took a deep breath.
"Our region won, but as you know, it came at the cost of many lives. Human and Pokémon. That brings me to my current request, Hoopa may have been restrained long ago, but the hoops it uses have been popping up all across several regions."
"Yeah, I remember seeing quite a few in Hoenn. But I don't remember seeing any during my time in Alola. They had their own problems to take care of."
"That's the thing, (Y/n). There are recent appearances." Sycamore said before handing (Y/n) several photographs of the hoops.
"Are these confirmed to lead anywhere?" (Y/n) asked.
"These only act as bridges between regions. But there's one that's quite peculiar." Sycamore stated before handing (Y/n) the last photograph.
"This is a large hoop. Why's it laying on the ground?"
"I'm afraid I'm as clueless as you are. This hoop was found on a plateau on a lone island between us and Borrius. I've contacted several other professors and researchers to investigate it. Prof. Burnet found that it had strange readings emanating from it. Not too far off from those Ultra Wormholes that she studies."
"Are you saying that this specific hoop could reach another world? The ones I've encountered took me to an empty plain housing a legendary Pokémon, but this seems far too powerful. Even for Hoopa." (Y/n) said.
"Something big is coming. I feel it deep within my bones. (Y/n), there's no one far better suited for this journey than you." Sycamore gave him a proud smile.
(Y/n) could only smile back.
"Meet me back here tomorrow, we will take a boat out to that island and see if anything strange occurs."
"Alright, Professor, leave it to me."
The two shook hands before (Y/n) departed.
The following day
"Here we are, (Y/n)!" Sycamore exclaimed as the two of them hopped off a boat onto the shore of an island.
(Y/n) took a good look around to see that there was no sign of wild Pokémon anywhere. Not even the water housed any Tentacool. And those are everywhere! He noticed a winding path leading to the highest point of the island.
"I'm guessing that's our destination?"
"Yes. Have you gathered everything?"
(Y/n) nodded as he messed with his backpack straps before patting his pocket that was housing his Rotom phone.
"All good here!"
Sycamore nodded. "Let us be off then!"
After an extensive walk, the two reached the plateau. There were plenty of researchers there, as well as Prof. Burnet. She took notice of them and smiled.
"Hello, you two!" She greeted them.
"Professor, good seeing you." Sycamore said as he shook her hand. "Where's Kukui?"
"Oh, he's grabbing some things I left back in the boat. (Y/n), how've you been?"
"I've been doing great. Thank you." He responded.
"Burnet here was actually the one who wanted me to talk to you." Sycamore told (Y/n).
"That's right. You helped everyone out in Alola, plus you had more exposure to these hoops and Ultra Wormholes than most. You're the right trainer for the job." She then clapped her hands. "Now, come over here."
She led both of them towards the hoop that was now standing upright thanks to some metal lifts. As he stared at it, (Y/n) could feel the power radiating from it. It was peculiar, to say the least. He reached out and touched the golden rim, then closed his eyes.
There was simply darkness. Then... there was light. The image of a shattered moon flashed in his mind. A horde of peculiar black-furred, red-eyed beasts was seen rushing across a barren wasteland. Then he saw two people. One was blonde, and the other had dark brown hair. They stood facing each other until the land they stood on cracked apart.
The pieces drifted away as their appearances began to flicker. The woman's flickered between a beautiful blonde to a woman with pure white skin, unnatural black veins running across her body, with a fixed scowl on her face. The man's appearance flickered far more as several men took his place before ending on a slim man wearing rounded glasses with gray hair. He had a look of longing present.
(Y/n) removed his hand and touched his forehead.
"What's wrong? You were spacing out there (Y/n)." Burnet told him concerned.
"I guess you could call it a vision. This hoop... It does indeed go to another world."
"What did you see?" Came a different voice.
They all turned to see Prof. Kukui walking over.
"Hey there, cousin." He greeted before standing beside Burnet.
"Hey, Kukui. Well, what I saw wasn't a lot but a lot at the same time. This other world, it's not one with Pokémon." He told them before exhaling. "Instead, I saw these... monsters. They had black fur, red eyes, and what looked like bones across their bodies. And their moon, it was shattered."
"Holy..." Was all Kukui could say as he was in shock.
"Then there was this couple. They split apart, and they changed appearances." (Y/n) took a look at the hoop. "Whoever they are, they must be important to that world's history. If this thing suddenly activates, I'll be sure to jump right through."
The professors thanked them as they then turned to the researchers and began discussing various things. (Y/n) looked at his hand as he thought about the visions he saw.
Beacon Academy, Vale
Beacon Academy. One of, if not, the greatest school for huntsmen and huntresses of the future. Summer break was upon the students, and they were all enjoying their free time. Some more than others. While some students decided to leave the school to head home for vacation or outright leave the kingdom for their own time and peace. There were other students who decided to stay within the walls of Beacon Academy.
Eight of them were currently bored out of their minds, unfortunately.
Team RWBY and Team JNPR were seen sitting in one of the many common rooms with their heads resting against their hands. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long were at one table playing the board game called: Remnant the Board Game.
Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Pyrrha Nikos, and Lie Ren were playing a game where you had to pull out wooden blocks precisely and stack them on top without the blocks toppling.
"Ugh! This is lame!" Yang grunted angrily. "After stopping Roman, nothing of interest has happened!"
"Yeah. Yang's right, you guys." Agreed, Ruby. "We've done nothing but play the same things over and over again. We need to do something else!"
Ruby tossed down her cards on the table and crossed her arms.
"I won't lie, I'm dying of boredom too," said Blake as she let out a sigh and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "I've even got done with the backlog of books I had with all the free time we had."
"Yeah. There's only so many times I can go to the mall and just window shop." Weiss claimed.
The members of JNPR all nodded in agreement as the wooden block tower collapsed, and Nora just yawned.
"I say we should have a hot dog eating contest!" Nora suggested.
Nearly everyone apart from Yang shot down Nora's idea.
"If only there was something out there we could do..." Ruby muttered.
Suddenly, the common room grew darker as they felt a rumbling sensation. The students started to wobble in their seats as Jaune and Yang fell out of their seats onto the floor.
"Ruby! Nora! What did you two do?!" Weiss shrieked as strange purple and yellow electricity pulsed from the entryway.
"Why do you immediately assume it was us?!" Nora responded, defending her and Ruby's good name.
It seem that they weren't the only ones who felt the massive shaking as those in the courtyard fell over and looked around in worry. Luckily, it came to a stop. Team RWBY and JNPR regained their bearings before seeing something coming in and out of view.
"Guys, what is that?" Jaune was the first to ask.
They couldn't tell at first, but there was a silhouette fading in and out. After only a few more seconds, the silhouette was fully realized, and there stood (Y/n). He let out a pained groan before focusing on the eight students in front of him.
"Howdy." He greeted them with a slight tip of his hat.
To be continued...
A/n: Hey guys, I hope you've enjoyed this so far. I know it's just the prologue, but I wanted to try and lay the groundwork before we get to the Pokémon part, which is probably what most are looking forward to. Now, if you noticed, then the parts involving Hoopa come from a fan made rom hack called: Pokémon Unbound. Pretty damn good hack if I do say so myself.
Now I don't want to give too much away, but the Hoopa thing and the mention of Unbound's region, Borrius, is pretty much all I'll be using. So don't feel inclined to rush through the game to enjoy this story.
And for those that read my other Pokémon stories, think of this as a separate protagonist who went on his own journey.
The last thing I want to touch on is the Pokémon for RWBY and JNPR. I have decided that they will get a starter Pokémon and already have my picks for them. But if you all want to suggest or guess the starter Pokémon then feel to let me know why you think they should/would get that Pokémon. Maybe your picks can change my own picks for them. I should also mention that this story will follow mostly the anime rules, but also game rules for simplicity as well. Like in the anime, you can make your Pokémon dodge and shit. In the games, you got held items and can use items in battle. With that said, thank you all so much for reading! Until next time!
