So playing off my previous two ideas I was thinking that Salem is the other side of the coin of Ozpin's wizard. Mostly I think that she and Ozpin have a past together given the way they talk to each other in the first episode. That she is meant to me the yin to Ozpin's yang. I know it's not much of an idea I was just thinking this and plus the other ideas were more about Ozpin and Salem's past together with this one being more of Salem's role in the series. Since she seems to be a Wicked Witch of the West analogue.
