chapter 5 ♣ Life outside Dancing
"Good morning Doc"
"Good morning Lisa"
"How was your night doctor?"
Different people greeted Lisa as she breezed into Delorez Clinic where she worked and she greeted them back accordingly.
It was a routine she did everyday
"How's your wife Gabe? has she given birth yet?" she'd ask the janitor.
"How's the new apartment going Frank?" She'd ask the security
"Good morning to you too Gabby", she'd greet the nurse
"Rita how's your husband?" She'd ask the female resident doctor who had a husband with a failing heart
The same questions she asked everyday to the same people she saw every morning, as she went to her office.
But today, she didn't particularly pay attention to the questions...or to the answers as for.
No. something else was on her mind. She had a sick feeling of dread in her stomach like something was going to happen; but she shook it off, resolving to remain positive.
As she walked into her very , spacious office, she put on the lights and air conditioner, then went straight to her plush chair to sit down. She was very tired.
She pulled her jacket and hung it on the chair feeling restless, she brought out her phone from her bag and dialed Daniel; her husband, she was restless and only his voice could soothe her nerves; Only his voice had the ability to calm her or make her as euphoric as an ppium addict.
She was twenty-eight and had been married to Rob for ten years now. Rob was her high school sweetheart but she had married him that early because she had gotten pregnant with their now ten year old daughter Esther.
Thankfully, since the last ten years, she'd had no reason to regret her hasty marriage, or giving birth to their beautiful daughter
"Hy dear. You've reached Daniel Marvins, please leave a message"
"Um....hy Dan. I've been trying to reach you since. You're obviously busy since your answering machine is the one picking my calls, instead of you. Anyways... please call me when you get this alright? I really need to speak with you. I love you"
Well, that was that! She'd sent it hadn't she? Daniel was a doctor just like her. Well, except he was a surgeon at another hospital.
A knock came through, interrupting her thoughts
"Come in; the door's unlocked" Lisa called out, not bothering to raise her head up. She already knew who it was.
"Good morning Doc. Your 8 o'clock appointment is here"
"Good morning Ify. Please send them in" Lisa said
A very young couple walked in. hmm...they didn't look so good she thought, wondering what could be their problem.
"Good morning Doctor" The lady spoke up
"Good morning dear. Please sit. I'm doctor Lisa and you're?" she already knew their names, but asked anyway, for formalities sake.
"I'm Agatha. Agatha Mbah; and this is my husband Benjamin Mbah".
"Well, nice meeting you. How may I help you?"
"We've um.. both been having some problems. Physical problems. We decided to treat it at home though with antibiotics, but it seemed to have gotten a lot worse and very Inflamed. And we don't know what to do. We'd have gone to meet a medical doctor, but the situation's quite embarrassing; not to mention, a doctor is quite expensive.
I'm sorry, I know this isn't a normal psychological case, but I remember reading somewhere that you're a medical doctor, you refused to practice and instead went further to study psychology so maybe we aren't in the wrong place after all Doctor Lisa". The young lady probably around sixteen to eighteen said, not missing a beat and Lisa absorbed it all.
"Physical problems you say?. What sort of physical problems?" Lisa said after a long while. She'd been tempted to send the couple out of her office because this wasn't a kind of situation a psychologist should handle, but something in the lady's eyes stopped her from doing just that. Worry? Sorrow? She couldn't quite place it. But it was enough to move her humanly instincts.
Plus, the young lady was right after all. She was a medical doctor. Contrary to what the lady had said, she'd actually practiced. After the death of five patients in just one year, under her care, she'd finally decided that maybe being a surgeon wasn't her calling after all and she'd went back to school to study psychology. She may not be impacting lives physically but she was doing just fine impacting psychologically.
"Well, we've both been having swollen sores, around our genital areas. Inflammations that is" The young man blurted out, looking embarrassed, probably around twenty years old and the young girl looking everywhere but at him
"There's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm glad you both decided to come to the hospital before it developed into something even worse. I am to assume that you guys are sexual partners right?"
"Yes ma'am, we are"
"Okay. And are you exclusively with each other or you sometimes sleep with other persons too?"
"Well I'm exclusive. I don't know about him" the girl spoke.
"What about you?" she asked looking at the boy
"Well, once in a while, I love to go to clubs and try out new things with different people" The boy said looking down.
"You do what? Oh my gosh Benjamin! This is your fault isn't it? You gave me whatever disease this is? I was such a fool! You told me you love me" Angelica screamed out, standing up from the chair and grabbing Benjamin by his shirt.
"Don't you dare look away from me. Look at me you bastard! I trusted you and you did this to me?"
"Hey! Young lady, release that boy this instant and both of you, sit down right now. You can both settle your personal issues outside my office, not in here. You both came here looking for a solution. Well, do you wanna hear it or not?"
