Darkened Thoughts
The side of the bed that for months had a body in it was now empty. That was the first thing that worried Sebastian. The next thing were the blankets were just thrown over, like in a panic; which was unlike Ruben's proper behavior. That is what worried Sebastian the most.
Being Sebastian, he immediately jumped to a set conclusion and decided that someone snuck into his house and kidnapped Ruben. Illogical, and without motive. But the reason that made Sebastian feel like that was the right answer was he knew he was a very heavy sleeper. He could easily, and sadly, sleep through the ordeal of his lover being whisked away while he slept.
But being a detective, Sebastian knew he needed proof. So he quietly pushed out of his bed and onto his floor. Glancing at the time, Sebastian sees the time; 2:39am. Early, too early for both Ruben and Sebastian. No one would be voluntarily awake at that time. That only worried Sebastian more.
Moving as silently as Sebastian could, he sneaks across to the wide open door. Another bad thing, as the couple closed that door every night. Sebastian furrows his brow, walking closer to the door. His feet move silently and carefully. Once the wall is in reach, Sebastian uses it to guide him the rest of the way.
Entering the hallway, Sebastian quickly notices that the light to the bathroom is on and the door ajar. That slightly calms Sebastian's nerve, but not by much. What would be the reason for Ruben to hastily go to the bathroom, ripping back the bedsheets and still leave the door open? Knowing that only spiked Sebastian's worry.
Sebastian doesn't care for being quiet anymore. His steps are slow paced, but still worried. Once he reaches the door, he pushes it open as so he can look in. But he doesn't see Ruben. Sebastian's heart skipped a beat, but looking closer; he can see that there is someone sitting in the tub with the shower curtain covering them from sight.
Sebastian moves forward, his heart slowing down as he's now sure Ruben isn't harmed; well mostly not harmed. Sebastian's fingers curl around the curtain and gently he pushes back the plastic "fabric".
Sitting there in the tub, pulled into a tight, fetal position, is Ruben. His pose reminds Sebastian of a young, terrified child waiting for their mother to come by. Tears leaking from his eyes as he stares deeply into the bleached white surface of the tub. Ruben is still dressed in his pajamas; but now the soft, thin cotton fabric crumpled and raggedy. Putting that all together with a quivering lip as a bow, it was a less than desired present.
Sebastian crouches next to his boyfriend, who hasn't even noticed his presence. Ruben appears to be in a deep trance, unbreakable from just Sebastian's presence. With a soft, gentle and unsure hand; Sebastian softly pets Ruben's head in a awkward form of comfort. That breaks Ruben out of his daze with a surprised flinch from Ruben.
Ruben's pale eyes snap at Sebastian, both sadness and guilt playing on his face. Sebastian is the first to speak.
"Something wrong, Ruben?" Sebastian asks the obvious. But surprisingly, Ruben doesn't snap at Sebastian for saying the obvious. He just stares, unblinking, at the other man. There is a quick silence, before Ruben just hugs Sebastian. He doesn't grab Sebastian quickly, just slowly pulling his thin arms around the larger man.
Yes, this is surprising to Sebastian. As Ruben is rarely the one to touch him. Hugging was really only Sebastian's thing, and Ruben never really enjoyed the hugging. So this was definitely the first.
"Ruben?" Sebastian repeats the other's name, but with a lot more caution in his voice. Ruben doesn't say a word, just presses his face into Sebastian's shoulder. Ruben grips down, holding Sebastian's night shirt tightly in his hands. Sebastian, as he doesn't know what to do, hugs Ruben back.
They stay in that position for a few minutes, before Ruben pulls away. That is of course, disappointing to Sebastian; but he knows to keep his mouth shut. Ruben'a face, where normal skin is that is, is a deep shade of pink. Sebastian also keeps his mouth shut about that. But after another second of silence, Sebastian does speak.
"Do you want to explain something?" Sebastian asks, he does care for the other after all. Ruben pauses, biting his lip as he thinks. But finally, he shakes his head.
"No, I just want to go back to sleep. Let's talk about it in the morning." And with that, they both walk off to bed. But one thing is for sure, is that they never talk about it. Sebastian understands enough.
