xxxiv.

Killian fell asleep after a few hours. I pushed his dark curls backs and stared at him for awhile. I leaned over and kissed his forehead. I lead my head down on his chest and put my arm around his waist. I laid there for awhile, falling asleep myself until I felt this heavy pressure on my forehead and around my eyes. My eyes burned and even without a mirror I knew this turned amber and sapphire.

I groaned and sat up. My head usually never hurts like this when they turn that color. I knew there had to be a reason and curiousity took over. I got up from the bed and walked over to the window in the room. I pulled the curtian aside and even in the night I could see someone on the outskirt of the woods.

A familiar face looked up at me from the window. I pressed my hand against the window as if I was gonna reach out to touch my mom but the window was in the way. She waved at me like she was telling me to follow her before she turned and ran into the woods. The heavy pressure went away and I closed my eyes, groaning quietly. My eyes felt fine again and I saw my reflection in the window. They were back to hazel.

I turned to look at Killian and swallowed the lump in my throat. I walked over and kissed his forehead again before quickly—sneakingly—out the house. I went out threw the back since the living room was filled with sleeping wolves who were waiting for families and Alphas to arrive to talk about everything. Rooms were filled and I knew it was allot on Alpha Dixon.

I ran towards the woods and when I stepped in I tried to find her. I looked around but I didn't see her. Was I imaging it? No, I'm not going crazy after everything. Right? I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply. I smelt something that smelt like Los Angeles. Los Angeles wolves—mostly the rogues—have this smell that they smell like beer, clorox, or burnt wood. This smelt burnt wood and I ran forward. I jumped over a few logs and something other things that got in my way.

Something ran behind me and I stopped as my eyes went gold. I turned but nothing was there. There was a tap on my shoulder. I gasped as I quickly turned around and Sofia smiled at me. Her eyes blazed amber and sapphire. Someone stepped behind her and Clyde was there. I was surprised to see Nate was also here.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her.

“We came with Killian and Devin. They had to go ahead and they couldn't tell you we were with so no one knows.” she said.

This odor formed the air and sniffed a few times. I looked behind Clyde and my eyes widen when I saw a familiar redhead hiding behind him.

“Aeriela!” I said pretty loudly before covering my mouth. I stepped back, “Why is she with you?” I asked coldly. “She is Ramses niece! You two are gonna be in a lot of trouble if he finds her with y'all!”

“Oh yeah. Hi, Matilda.” Sofia sarcastically said. “I'm so glad you're okay and alive. I'm was so worried about you and thanks for the big hug!”

I stared at her for a moment before giving her a hug. She wrapped her arms around me tightly and I did the same. I didn't hug her the last time we saw each other and it felt kind of—well, not awkward. I didn't care how long it seemed we were hugging each other since it felt nice. I was to shy the last time to hug her so I wasn't gonna hold back now with seeing what it felt like to be held by her.

She pulled away and smiled down at her, “My brave little girl.”

“Who clearly didn't need us.” Clyde said, grinning down at me. I grinned, hugging him and he held tightly onto me. We broke the hug after a moment and grabbed a strain of short curly hair, “You're a little fighter, aren't you?”

I shrugged, “I always thought I should have been born a boy then a girl.” In the corner of my eyes I saw Aeriela and I turned to look at her, “Why is she with you?” I asked Clyde and Sofia. “Ramses gonna kill if they knew you have you—”

“I wanted to come.” Aeriela said, stepping over towards us. “I ran into them and I begged them to let me come. I don't wanna be wild anymore. I hate it—always have.”

“Your uncle will kill us if he knew you were with us—”

She shook her head, “I left on my own will. If someone leave the pack on their own he can't do anything. It was my choice so he'll have to respect that.”

I walked over towards her with a hard look, “And how do we know if your really with us and not some spy for your uncle?”

She stared right at me, “Then you'll just have to trust me, Mat. I saved your ass from my uncle.”

I snorted, “I was handling it.”

“Oh yes because the way he was about to rip your shoulder out looked like you were handling it.” she said sarcastically. “I saw him and I didn't want him to do it. I knew you were my only chance of living out with people, Mat. Please, I will do anything to earn all of your trust.”

I stared at her for a moment, trying to figure out if I should trust her or not. I mean, I did stab her uncle right in the eye and blinded him forever in his left eye. She did seem curious back there though the world and didn't seem very happy. “Alright but you should know—I blinded your uncle.”

Her eyes widen, “He still alive?”

I shrugged, “And probably looking for my ass but he wouldn't come this close to the Alpha land. Who is a total dumbshit for not knowing wild rogues were in his territory in this first place.”

“All Alphas are fucking dumb.” Nate said, stepping over towards me. “I have a question for you Mat—how'd you do it anyways? One teenage girl who escaped a group of wild rogues.”

I lifted my chin, “If you were hidding underground in a smelly gross room for more then a week you'll be willing to do anything to get out.”

“Your eyes turn amber and sapphire, don't they?” Sofia asked, making me stare at her for a moment before I nodded. A small smile appeared on her face but her eyes didn't seem very happy and she blinked quickly. Her eyes flashed amber and sapphire, “Redblood last thing to wild life they have.”

“Well it saved my life.” I said. “And uh—do you know Lincoln is in love with you?”

Sofia looked away awkwardly and Clyde closed his eyes, breathing heavily out his nose, “Yes, we do.” he said coldly.

“You're dad was very handsome when he was young.” Sofia said, making him open his eys and looked at her surprised.

“Was?” he asked.

She rolled her eyes and cupped his cheek, “You only get better with age, babe.”

“Ew!” I couldn't help but say at them using words like that.

“Anyways, Lincoln tried to play it off as if it didn't matter. I mean, Alana looked pretty upset about it but was willing to let us be together.” Sofia said. “I guess it affected Lincoln more then we thought. Lincoln was tall and kind of skinny looking. Have you seen your father when he was young?” she asked, grinning. “Whoa baby and he still looks good. That's why I have good looking children.”

I stared at her for a moment, “Anyways,” I said, clearing my throat. “Now he's been putting heat all over me. Not Devin because Devin follows his orders but me because I'm your daughter. It was never about joining the pack because you asked but because he wanted to make my life hell.”

“Oh don't think we weren't told all of this already.” Clyde said. “Nate informed us about everything already."

“Then you know about Alana also?” I asked. They both nodded and I placed my hands on my waist, “Lincoln a really coward. He doesn't deserve Alana, his family, and the pack.”

They shrugged, “We can't do anything about it, Mat.” Sofia said. “They're married and he has every right as Alpha.”

“All we can do is warn Alana.” Nat said.

“No.” I said stubbornly. “When Lincoln gets here tomorrow—I will challenge him for the leadership and become Alpha.”

All three of them stared at me for a moment and Clyde turned to Sofia as he held his hand up, “You—you talk to your daughter. She's as crazy as you.”

“Hey!” I said, offended. “You don't think I can fight Lincoln and win?”

“No, we do think. We think in the first minute you will win.” Clyde said. He sighed and walked over towards me, “Mat, the Cartwright—that's Alana family name—has been leaders of Oergon for decades. Also they just lost Marco—he died the night of the massacre in Washington.”

My stomach dropped as I looked at him for a moment, “Marco dead?” I asked. He nodded and I brought my hand up to my mouth as I thought of Alana and Melinda—who doesn't even know anything. I straighten my back, “How did he die?”

“He was protecting Blue.” Nate said. He lifted his shirt up where a scar was, “I would have died to if Devin hadn't gotten me quickly to the hospital.”

I turned away and brought my hand up to my mouth, chewing on my nails because even though Marco was a pain sometimes he didn't deserve to die. Blue and Marco were soulmates and I can only imagine how much in pain she is in.

“Mat, you can't take Oregon. It's all they have now—”

I turned to face them, “Oregon is under the name Hanigan now, not Cartwright. It is no longer under Alana family but Lincoln. Will and Melinda will get married and it'll be under Bloodworth. Will wants me to become Alpha and he'll give it to me because he feels like he owes me for saving him. I don't want to be handed Oregon, I wanna have it for honor.” I went over to Nate and took his hands, “Nate, you agree with me right? Texas and Oregon will be under our territory. We can change history.”

“Mat, I'll always agree with you.” he said, making me smile. “But I think we should let them mourn for awhile. They just lost Marco. Give it a few months.”

I took my hands away and he sighed heavily. My eyes flashed amber and sapphire as I coldly said, “I have six wolves back in that house who all agree with me. They feel like they owe their lives to me and they made become their Alpha. I need to give them a home—a pack! When their families and Alphas comes tomorrow they're not leaving with them but their going with me. I tried talking them out of it earlier but they wouldn't have it. They trust me to take care of them.”

Nate took my arm and made me look at him, “Look, help me with Texas and you all can stay with there until after it feels right to take Oregon. Okay, don't think of Lincoln. Think of Melinda. That's her father and if you kill him tomorrow she would have lost a father and brother. Give it time. I'm not stopping you, Mat but just be a little patient. I know that is very hard for you but just wait.”

Lots of the Alphas were showing up early in the morning. I was on the porch with Killian behind me, his arms around me as I watch each people reunite with their families. Melinda was eagerly waiting for Alana and Lincoln while Will waited for his father and mother. Many of the families and Alphas came over towards me to thank me but I dismissed the talk about how I did it until they were all here. I hate retelling things since it annoyed the hell out of me.

After an hour Lincoln pulled up in a rented car with Will's parents. Melinda ran off the porch and ran over to her mother. They hugged tightly and they both started crying. Lincoln looked right at me with a blank expression before he turned to his daughter and placed his hand on her arm. She looked at him and quickly hugged him.

Killian kissed behind my head, “You alright?” he asked.

I nodded as I watch them all hug each other for a moment before Melinda finally realized Marco wasn't there. They had a hard time telling her and she broke down in tears. She cried hard against her mother chest and I lowered my head since there was so much more she needed to know.

With the dinning hall full of people it was pretty loud until everyone made it. Allot of them were staring at me and I felt a little awkward with the attention on me. We had a few suprise vistors—Alphas from different states who didn't have family from the party but just came out of curiousity because of me. I felt weird a little though since Lincoln, Talaus, and Alaric were in the room.

Dixion cell phone had rung and he excused himself for a moment. I had told Brayden, Gavin, Will, Elijah, and Ian to let me announce me role as becoming a new Alpha. They stayed closed to me and I knew it seemed odd to the others.

Once Dixon came back we could all start. I stood up and cleared my throat, “So uh—I wonder how I should start this. I'm really bad with talking w-with crowds so—ah hell. Fuck it.” I said. I closed my eyes and forced my eyes to shift amber and sapphire like how Sofia taught me last night. I just had to let that wolf part of come to surface but not fully shift. I opened my eyes and everyone who didn't know gasped and took in sharp breaths.

Lots of the Alphas stood up and growled at me. The guys quickly got up and growled back at them. Their oringal Alphas looked at them surprised but the guys didn't care. I cleared my throat and smiled at them, “Thanks but I'm okay.” I said as they sat down. This strong way of confidance rushed threw me—maybe because the Alpha part was becoming stronger I guess now.

I got ontop of the table and sat down crossed legged, “So yes my eyes are different from all of y'alls. I am a Redblood after all, you should know what that means.” I said. “I am also a Vaughn. Let me get one things clear with you all—I saved your family members lives. All of them—not one of them died. I won't be sitting here with your judgemental stares. Wanna so badly know how I did it? With the strength of a wild wolves. I used what they are against them. They were gonna kill us all two nights ago. One at a time. So I wasn't gonna stick around there and I sure as hell wasn't gonna leave one person behind. Wanna know why?” I asked, making a thinking face because I couldn't control my attitude right now.

I stood up on the table, “Because I'm not a coward. You see, one of y'all would have left and say you'll come back with help. I knew the strength all of them had. When one of the wild rogues came down to get Will—who was their first target because the guy who was coming down was the brother of the guy you killed, Alpha Lincoln.” I said, grinning at him who was really pissed right now at me. Actually allot of the Alphas were right now. “I killed him—trust me after I did it I realized how gross it was to bite into his neck. Anways I took the key from him and let them all out. As a group, all together we ran out of the underground room. I'm not gonna bore you to much longer but Ramses came after us. I told them to on but six of these brave wolves stayed behind.” I said, facing them. “Tough wolves, probably wouldn't be here without them.”

“Is Ramses dead?” Alric asked coldly and annoyed. “Or not?”

“Not.” I said, making them all groan. I shrugged, “What? I blinded him because I stabbed his eye with a branch and got my ass out of there. I knew when it was time to leave and they didn't follow until later. You have your family back, protect them.”

“You should have killed him.” Alpha Jaycob—Gavin brother—said.

“Oh like how you killed his father?” I asked, making him breathe out in frusteration. I walked over towards him and bent down to face him, “He wanted your brother, Gavin. Gavin stayed back to help and if I would have handed him over they would have left us all alone.” I grabbed him by his shirt and bared my teeth, “I didn't give your brother to him like you would.” I pushed him away, disgusted.

I stood up, “Over a week we were there.” I said, growling because now I was pissed as I looked at all of them. “I may be a smart mouth eighteen year old but guess what. I don't care. Try being trapped in a gross digusting smelly ass room we were in. I'm really pissed. You're gonna listen to what I have to say. We were in there for over a week and none of you—none of you came to help! You guys weren't gonna come, were you?” I asked, looking at each Alphas.

“We knew the risk.” Lincoln said. “We had to know where you all were first.”

I turned to Dixon, “How did you not know the wild were in your own territory?”

He scoffed, “They stuck to places where they could mask their scent—”

“You all knew wild rogues were foaming around—wild rogues who were badly needed to be found!” I yelled. “Every state should have been looking.”

“Look,” Alric said, standing up and stared up at me. “We understand how hard it must have been. We were trying and we're sorry it took very long but it's how it goes. We couldn't do anything drastic.”

I looked at the young woman next to him, “You're niece, isn't she? Katelyn? What if she had died that night? What if she became to dehydrated or stravation?” Alric looked at her for support to take his side but she gave him a hard look. She stood up and went over where the guys are. I went passed each Alpha and told them about each of the wolf who was with me and allot of them took my side then their Alpha.

I finished with Lincoln, “You're daughter trusted me to get her out of there.” I bent down in front of him, “I'm sorry for Marco, he was a strong wolf. He knew about what was happening and I was grateful he never told you. He was my cousin soulmate. You're daughter is strong also though and brave. And I am gonna get Aydin back for everything he done."

“Actually, I wanna do it.” Melinda said, standing up.

“Sit down.” Lincoln coldly ordered her and she frowned down at him

“No, let her talk.” I said as I looked at Melinda. “I watched him drag you into that room and put you in a cage with us. Trust me, I wanted to hurt him even though we were close like how we are now. You wanna get him, I'll happily drag him by his tail and bring him to you. He's all yours to do as pleased.” I said as I grinned at her.

Lincoln got up and slapped me acrossed the face unexpectedly, “You're trying to turn my daughter into a rogue—let go of me!” he yelled when Brayden and Gavin grabbed him and slammed him into the wall.

I got up and brought my hand up to my aching cheek. My whole body stiffen and my vision became blurry but I didn't let myself shift into a wolf. Killian came over and touched my face before he looked at Lincoln and growled at him before walking over towards him but I stopped him, “Killan, don't.” I said, making him freeze. “I'm alright—he hits like a girl anyways. Had much worse hits.” I got off the table and walked over towards him. I grabbed him as I lifted my chin, “I know allot of your secrets.” I warned him.
