I found my aunt in Will's bedroom while I walked passed in. She was sitting on his bed with a picture of him in her hands as tears slid down her face. It hurt seeing my aunt so crushed and I knew that crushing feeling for Mat. I don't know how I was being so strong right now with holding in all the anger, pain, and worthless feelings in me because I couldn't protect her. She wasn't in the room when it all happened but she was alone. I hadn't noticed her leaving when I should.
With nothing but I shirt on my back, jeans around my waist, and boots on I sneaked out the house. Alpha Lincoln had put up some rules where we can't stay out past ten o'clock so I had to sneak around town so no one would catch me.
I went behind the grocery store, seeing Nate hasn't made it yet. I sat down on the bench waiting for him to show up. My head tilt back as I closed my eyes and bit my lower lip. How was I suppose to do this? I grew up knowing killing was a wildish thing and that I only should do it like as if a human as a reasons. I'm not wild, I can't just go up to someone and kill them. A wild would have no problem but we're tamed and have a better understanding to the world.
I don't know how my family, Alpha in Massachusetts, and Alpha Lincoln will all react to this. I know it won't be a good one and it's gonna cost me everything I'm sure.
“Hey.” Nate said, coming around the building and over towards me. He arched his eyebrow, “Why do you look so sick?”
I got up, “I'm not—just nervous.”
He brought his hand up and smacked me across the face. My face was forced the right and my eyes widen, “Well quiet it. This is Mat we're talking about, Killian. You should be able to face fear with no problems.”
“Maybe we should just go talk to Alpha Lincoln and he'll do something. I'm sure of it since they must also have Melinda so—”,
“No. Killian, you need to grow up.” he said coldly. “You are not a child anymore so here's the thing—this is a perfect world with the pack like you grew up believing. There are true monsters in the world and the wild rogues are one of them. We're wasting time here when at any moment they could kill or if they had already.”
“Stop it.” I said, bring my hands up to my ears not wanting to hear this.
He moved my hands, “Killian, I know you're scared. You have to face it man and realize the pack isn't strong enough to protect us all. We blended with humans and now we're weak. You have to wolf up and find your true inner wolf. Mat needs you, Killian. What are you going to do when we learn they're all dead.”
“Please don't ask me that.” I said.
He pushed me, “Come on, answer me. You think they're treating them like special guest or something?” He kept pushing me back until my back hit the wall, “Some soulmate you are.”
My teeth bared as my eyes went yellow, “Shut up. Alpha Lincoln may be some asshole but he's still the Alpha—"
“Dude, do I really need to hit you again?” he asked, breathing out heavily. “Mat would be very ashamed right now—”
I pushed him back and he wrapped his arm around my neck, pulling me down. I brought my elbow back roughly and tackled him to the ground. We began hitting each other and he pressed his finger against my eyes. I cried out and let go of him as I got up, “I'm trying my best! The pack is all I known!” I said, rubbing my eyes. “How can I just suddenly think of them so horribly? It's been drilled into my mind that the pack is not just your pack but your family. If we return and Alpha Lincoln kicks us out—Mat and I have no where to go. Massachusetts won't let us in. We'll live as rogues and have a hard time surviving.”
“You'll be in Texas, that'll be your new home.” he said.
I snorted, “You know if you do accomplish killing Alpha Talaus Texas will be the most hated pack in the country because you'll let rogues back in. You think you'll have everyone support, Nate?”
“No, I have thought of this many times Killian.” he said. “Texas will be known a haven. I know lots of people won't see it this way but it's true. We'll allow any rogue who we believe that should have redemption. There are more and more rogue families every year who need protection and their kids have a good life. Anyone that wants to leave they can leave. Talaus is a crazy man. He comes off calm and cool but he's not. He killed my parents, I watched him do it.”
I groaned, running my hands across my hair, “I want to save Mat more than anything and I'm not going to stay here Nate. I'm still coming.”
“Then we need to go now.” he said. “No more wasting time. You know what your problem is Killian—you think to much. You should think less and just act. Sometimes acting is better than thinking. Thinking waste time. Just go for things you want without think of the end results. No matter what—it's gonna be shitty so you should just do it.”
I stared at him for a moment before sighing, “Alright. No more thinking.”
“Good.” he said, hitting behind my arm. “Lets go.”
“I'm coming to.” we heard and we turned our heads to see Devin walking over. “Mat is my sister and just four wolves isn't enough to take a whole group of wild rogues. I'm risking everything but I won't lose anyone imporant again.”
Mat
Two days later.
When I opened my eyes I found myself still in some room underground still. I growled, hating how I was still here. I expect every time I wake up everyday here to actually be in my bed. Instead of being in a cage though I had a chain around my neck that was attached to the wall. I pulled at it a few times but it wouldn't work. I made my eyes turned yellow and kept going until they became amber and sapphire.
“Mat—Mat, stop it.” Will said, making me snap my head to look at him. “Look, just relax for a moment. There are at least seventeen rogues up there. You can't fight against them all.”
“Watch me.” I said, my teeth baring and growling.
“Don't get yourself killed.” he said.
I turned away from him and looked at the others in the room, “Who's the Alpha of Tennessee.” I asked them. They all looked away from me and my eyebrows furrowed together confused. “What? Why isn't anyone answering me.”
“You're wild.” a man said, scoffing. “We saw you break that cage open. How are you in a pack?”
I scoffed, “I'm not wild. My parents were pack people. I don't know why my eyes are turning like this.”
“She's a Redblood.” Melinda said. “Her ancestors can be traced back to wildbloods but that was a long time ago. Leave her alone.”
“We'll just wait for someone to save us.” another man said, leaning his back against the wall of his cage.
“No one is coming.” I growled. “How stupid can you all be? It's been over a week and no one came to help us. The Alpha's—your relatives—won't be coming because of them up there. It's up to us to save ourselves.”
“You think you know everything?” the man asked. He leaned forwards in his cage, “It's the wild Alpha in you that thinks you know everything.”
“It's my wild Alpha that's gonna get your dumbass out of here.” I said, scoffing.
“You're Clyde Vaughn daughter, aren't you?” a woman said. “And a Redblood—many of your ancestors on either side have different Alphas running in your veins. In you're bloodline you're related to at least twenty-seven Alpha's. No wonder I hear why your so reckless. You have allot of strength.”
“I have to many problems going on my life. As if being a teenager was hard enough, I have to be a wolf!” I said. “You think the Alphas are gonna help us? They wouldn't have came by now but they haven't. They are scared.” I said. They all stayed quiet and they knew I was right. I swallowed hard, “I'm scared to, I am. You guys needs to stop trusting the packs. They're not coming. Maybe some pack members have tired but you all grew up knowing it's wrong to kill unless necessary. You guys aren't trained to protect yourself like wild rogues where I'm sure they trained like Spartans. You guys can't be scared to kill, alright? You think they'll take second thoughts about you?”
“Have you ever killed anyone?” a women asked, scoffing. “No am I right? You only have the balls more than us to do it.”
“No I haven't killed anymore but I sure have a good fist. I can fight human and wolf. I spent my whole life fighting so I know I can do this.” I said. “I'm just saying this—if it comes to it don't be a little bitch. Wolf up, protect your neck, and do whatever it takes to make it home. Don't think of anything else but doing anything to get home where it is safe.”
They all but Will and Melinda looked at each other, questioning if they should believe me. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the wall. I pressed my feet against the wall and taking a deep breath as I held on the chain—I pulled. I with with all my might. I grunted, taking taking breathes. Wow, this chain was really screwed in there. I took one last deep breath and pulled. The chains broke and I chuckled when I was free. Oh yeah, being this strong comes in handy.
I stood up, “So I had some time to think about this. I thought maybe we could all run to the Alpha of Tenessee—which I still don't know name—and he should be able to protect us. I don't know where it is so hopefully one of you do that can lead up to there.”
“Dixon, his name is Dixon.” a lady said. “And he's my cousin.”
“Good.” I said. I opened my mouth to speak but I smelt something in the air. It was a horrible smell and I quickly knew who was coming near now that I was paying attention to my surroundings. I brought my finger up to my mouth and I sat back down, holding the broken chain behind me.
The door open and Gordan came in, “Tonight the night, pets. You won't have to be locked up no longer in the cages.” he said, walking in with a grin. “Ramses wants each of you one of time so you won't have to watch the others. How generous of him, isn't it? Who,” he said, pointing down at each cage. “Should. I. Choose. Oh. Maybe you?” he asked, stopping in front of a woman and she moved away. He chuckled evilly and moved on. “Or you? No. Who. Will. Be. The. Luck—oh you.” he said, stopping in front of Will cage. “It's you.”
“Wa-wai-wait! Hold up!” Will yelled as he crawl back. Gordan took the key out of his pocket and my eyes winced as I looked at it. He put it in the padlock, “Look, I was just doing orders! I didn't kill your brother first off so you shouldn't because—“
I stood up and Gordan looked at me. He was taken back but before he could speak I lunged at him. I landed on him and he fell on his back. I brought my hand over his mouth before he could speak, “Thanks for making this easier for me.” I whispered to him before I bit down on his neck with my human teeth—yes, my human teeth. I heard everyone cry out in suprise and I was surprised at my own actions since I don't know why I'm doing this. I'm sort of losing control of my body. It was just some instinct though I felt like I had to do. I covered his mouth as I bit further into his neck and ripped a huge chunk out.
I spit it out and growl at him. He stared up at me for a moment in shock and I growled again, biting into another part of his shoulder. I felt someone grabbed me by my arms and tried pulling me off. Whoever it was managed to even though I was behaving like a wild animal.
“Mat, stop it.” Devin said. “He's dead, he's dead.” My chest heaved up and down heavily as I look down at Gordan lifeless body. Blood was everywhere and on me. The dress I was in was soaked and red with Gordan blood. I felt the blood on my face. “Come on, lets get the rest out.” he said before letting go of me and went to get to the key. I stared down at Gordan for a moment—him being the first of them I killed. I brought my foot out and started kicking him. “Hey, hey, hey!” Devin said as he pulled me away.
I started shaking as I stared down at Gordan dead body and growling. I was behaving like a normal wolf, growling and ready to attack. My teeth bared, readying for anything. The wild part of me wanting blood—I understood that. Devin let everyone out and they stayed away from me. Good.
Melinda though came over to me and touched my shoulder, “Mat.”
I turned my head slowly, “Don't touch me.” I said. She let go of me as she nodded. I closed my eyes, taking deep breathes to calm myself down a little. “There are more of us than there are of them.” I said. “There's twenty-three of us. Watch the wolf next you. Try not to look back because if you see them following you might slow down. Don't stop, keep moving.” I said, walking passed them because they let me through.
I opened the door and I felt my spine move before I shifted into a wolf. They all followed behind me and I looked up the staircase where I saw the night sky above. I ran up the stairs as fast I could and they followed behind me. When we got to the top, we heard the wold rogue crying out in suprise. I didn't stop moving, I just ran forward with no idea where I was suppose to go but only know we were in the woods.
My feet kept moving and I only looked straight since I was in the front. I saw in the corner of my eyes a dark wolf that reminded me of Ramses. I stopped running and lots of them ran passed me. I turned into a human when they stopped, “Go!” I yelled and they ran.
Lots of the older wolves stayed behind and I faced the dark wolf twenty fifteen feet away from me. I turned to Will and told him to go but he shook his head. I looked at Ramses and six other wolves were behind him. Ramses turned back into a human and looked pissed, “How old are you?” he asked coldly as he took a few stepped forward. “You sure do seem smarter than any female wolf.”
“I'm not an orindary wolf, remember?” I asked, keeping my eyes on him. “I've been around allot of Alphas lately, you tend to learn a few things. Unlike them though, I'm braver.”
“I sure did underestimate you.” he said. “You're father was smart to all those years ago. He wanted them to stop but they didn't listen to him.”
“Well if you knew my mother, I'm allot like her.” I said. “Look Ramses, allot of us are gone. They'll tell them where we are. Just let us go.”
“No.” he said, growling. He looked behind me at a wolf, “That's that wolf littlest brother—he at least stays. Give me him and I'll let you."
I turned my head to look at the wolf and he looked at me with wide eyes. I thought about—I won't lie. I thought about giving him this wolf if that meant the rest of us survived but that would be a selfish thing. That's something Lincoln, Alaric, and Talaus would do and I'm not them. They would be cowards and not protect one of their own. I won't do that, I won't hand him over to them.
I turned to look back at Ramses, “No.” I said before crouching down and turned into a wolf.
He chuckled, “Stupid, stupid girl.” he said. He ran towards me in his human skin and the othe followed behind him. I growled and lunged at him when he was a few feet away. I pushed him down onto the ground and he grabbed me by the throat. I snapped at him and he took one hand away. He grabbed me by right arm and his eyes turned to amber and sapphire. Pain rushed threw my arm and I yelped as I got off him.
He got up on all fours and he growled, “Don't kill them. I still want them.” he said. He turned into wolf skin and he lunged at me this time. He got on my back and bit into my legs. I rolled on my side and tried to go on my back. We kept biting at each other and I bit roughly into his ears but he bit into my arm. My feet kicked at him and we fought there in the woods. I was becoming exhausted soon but I fought hard as I could but I felt like I was losing anyways.
He grabbed me by my neck and threw me. I hit into a tree and I couldn't stop myself turning to my human skin. I brought my hand up behind my head where pain was and I felt something wet. I brought my hand back and saw I was bleeding. Ramses charged at me and I grabbed him by his neck. His mouth snapped, trying to bit into my shoulder.
I cried out, trying to stop him.
“Ramses?” we heard Aeriela voice. We both turned our head to see her a few feet away from us.
Ramses pulled away and he turned into a human, “Aeriela, go back! Now!” he screamed at her. She jumped and turned the other way, running back towards their camp. I grabbed a small branch and gripped it. Ramses grabbed me by my hair and I cried in pain as he lifted me.
I brought the small piece of branch up and with another cry I pierced it into his eyes. He cried in loud pain as he let go of me and he stumbled back with his hands up to his left eye. His wolves and mine stopped fighting to watch him cry in pain. He fell back on his back and turned on his side, crying in pain and cursing me.
The wolves following me ran over and I quickly turned. Running in human skin at first I changed into a wolf and ran away before they could stop us.
