Killian
Before I went into the house I walked over to the mail box. I ran my hand threw my damp hair that was filled with sweat from my run. It was nine o'clock and I had spent most of the night running through Oregon.
I was breathing heavily as I grabbed the stack of mail and looked threw them to see if I got anything which I did. I got curious when I saw my only my name on it not the address or who it was from.
I set the others mail back in the mail box and opened the white envelope. I took out the piece of paper that was ripped out from a notebook and opened it.
I'm sorry I couldn't say this in person. It would have been hard to say it to your face and this is the third time I written this so it'll be perfect. I'm leaving, that's my decision Killian. We don't have to keep hiding if there is nothing to hide anymore. You stay in Marchand, you have a life here where I never really did. Tell Blue I'll miss her and she's was the greatest cousin a girl could have. Tell Devin not to be angry and that he was an awesome big brother and I secretly did want to move in. Tell Will he's still an asshole but he was a great guy for rooting for us. I'm sorry if I hurt you by doing this, but this has always been the idea of mine to leave. I'll never forget you, you'll probably be on my mind until I die. Find a sweet girl and be happy. Make your own decisions and be who with you want. It's your life.
Mat Daugherty
My heart quicken and it speed like lighten until it finally broke. "What?" I asked myself as I reread the letter from Mat. Is she joking? This is a sick joke right? I turned and ran down the street. I ran towards the Wings Hope and I didn't stop until I was on the street. I paused when I saw across the street two police cars. I forced my feet to move and I ran across the street and I ran over to the doors. I opened the door and ran in.
Three cops where talking to a few ladies when I ran in and they turned their attentions towards me.
"Where is she?" I asked.
"Matilda?" the oldest lady asked.
I walked towards them, "Yes Mat!" I coldly said and one of the police officer grabbed me. "Where is she? Tell me!"
"Hey young man, cut it out!" the one who was doing his best to hold me back said.
I brought my hand up and pushed him away, "Where is she?" I growled, my hands cracking as I balled them into fists and undid them, feeling my nails pierce my skin.
"How do you know her?" the police officer asked me. "What is that in your hand?" When I didn't answer but glare at him, he reached for it, "Well give it here."
I threw my fist across his face, "Don't touch me!" I yelled before I was forced into the ground and had my arms thrown behind me. I could have probably fought them off, ran away, and get one of the elders to forget what I have done but all I could think about what the hell Mat was thinking.
*
When I felt Alpha Lincoln presence I walked over to the bars and pressed myself against it as he came over. Confused, my eyebrows furrowed together, "Where's a guard? I want to get out."
He crossed his arms over his chest, "Just want to save this imagine in my mind a little longer. I hope you learned your lesson Killian."
"Mat is gone." I said.
He sighed heavily and put his hands in his pockets, "I know. Want to tell me why?"
I shrugged, "Your guess is as good as mine."
He reached into his back pocket and pulled out the letter from Mat, making my eyes widen a little. "You two are a real pain in the ass." he said. He put his arm down, "Dumb of me to think I could really in any way to keep you two apart. You young wolves always do the opposite as you’re told. I was supposed to protect her Killian and now she's out somewhere."
"I have to get out." I said as I grabbed onto the bars and tighten my fists, shaking the bars, "Let me out!"

I watched as Devin fiancée rubbed his shoulders and told him it'll be alright on the porch. She was trying to comfort him but he was too worried about his sister.
"I just don't get it." Blue said. "I don't see why she left, this was no way to deal with any of this. If she didn't want to be in the pack, Alpha Lincoln still would have made sure she was protected."
"It's way more than that." Melinda said and we all glared at her. "She wanted Killian and she couldn't take the heat when no one was on her side."
I walked towards her, giving her a hard look, and I opened my mouth but will came in my way and held me back.
"Melinda, stop it." Marco said as he looked up at his sister from the couch. "This isn't time for jealousy."
"Jealousy?" Melinda scoffed. "Of Matilda Daugherty? Everyone use to swear she was a dyke and you all just started letting her hang out with us because she is a wolf, but she is no pack member. She may dress up but—"
"Shut your mouth or I'll do it for you." Blue coldly said as she got up from Marco side. She walked over towards Melinda and they glared at each other, both blowing off steam and wanting to turn by their gold eyes. "Mat is still my cousin, so you won't be talking about her like that."
Melinda grinned, "If you weren't my brother mate, I would show you whose boss in this group."
"Melinda!" Marco said coldly as he stood up.
"You may talk like a bad bitch Blue, but have you even gotten in a real fight yet?" Melinda asked, chuckling. "Don't make me embarrass you right here."
"I'll be amazed if you had the strength to do it." Blue said. Blue leaned her head towards Melinda, "You forgot to use a mint after you binged your food back up sweetheart."
Melinda nose scrunched as she glared at Blue and I wouldn't have been surprised if they went at it but the door opened and Devin came in.
"I might have an idea where she might have gone to." he said as he looked at Marco. "Tell your father I'm going to Los Angeles."
"What's in Los Angeles?" Marco asked.
"Some people I know." he said before he turned and hugged Zoe. He walked out of the door and I pushed myself away from Will, going over towards the door.
"Hold up." I said to Devin as I walked out of the house. He paused on the staircase but didn't turn to me. I walked over to him, "I'm coming."
"I'm didn't asked for company." he coldly said.
"And I want asking if I could come, I am coming." I said.
He snorted and turned to me, "And why should I let you? It seems like you’re the big reason why she left."
I turned my head around to look at the open door for a moment before turning back to Devin, "I'll tell you in the car."
Mat
I knew the best place to go to for when your hungry is crappy store. The ones that don't have cameras in each direction, the ones who been open since 1970's and there's an old man behind the counter. I looked behind me where an old man was reading from a watching from the small TV behind the counter. Walking casually down the aisle I reached out quickly and grabbed one of those tasty cakes and slid them in my hoodie pocket. I grabbed a pack of gum and a small bag of peanuts.
I reached into my pocket and had seventy-five cents left. I had to steal some money away from one of the employees who work over night at Wings Hope. It wasn't allot, about eighty dollars, enough to get me a ticket. I went over to the fridge and grabbed a can of soda. What some people don't understand about when you’re going to steal food from a convenient store it's always going to look suspicious if you just walk out with a hood on your head and a pair of sunglasses.
I walked over to the counter and forced a smile, putting the seventy five cents on the counter. The man looked and nodded. I turned and walked out of the store. I opened the can of soda as I walked down the street and brought it up to my mouth, thirsty as hell. I walked down the dirt road as I took out the three cupcakes in the plastic packet and stuffed my mouth. My stomach was growling and I never thought I would be so hungry but I was.
I sat at a bench and finished the small meal. I felt so much better, my head was hurting anymore. I slouched back against the bench and took my sunglasses off, pulling the hoodie off my head. I reached under the bench and grabbed my bag.
In my head, I could hear Killian laughter and chuckles, picturing him in my head as he smiled down at me because I said something that amused him that was probably snarky and a little rude. My chest felt heavier at the thought of him and something in the back of my head was telling me to go back. I couldn't go back though, I’ll get in allot of trouble and I don't want to go back. The only reason I will be going back is because of Killian and that isn't fair. I looked up at the dark sky that had no stars since clouds were out.
I ran my hand threw my wild hair of curls and waited for some car to drive down the road. When one finally did, he didn't stop for me, “Asshole.” I said as I watched it drive away. Five more cars passed and I just wanted to give up. I sat on the bench and bent over, bring my hands up to my mouth, and screamed in frustration. I can understand why they would want to pick up a hitchhiker but this was bullshit!
Two more cars passed until a truck stopped and I ran over towards it. A men rolled down the window for me and I was surprised at how young he was. Maybe in his early twenty and I took notice to a logo on his car with some blocks and other crap probably for construction was in the back of the truck.
“Do you know how late it is?” the man asked. “You shouldn’t be out here.”
“Can you give me a ride?” I asked.
“You know hitchhiking is a way for you to get kidnapped?” he asked.
“I'll take a risk.” I said. Of course I knew the dangers of hitchhiking, but I’m lucky enough to know how to take care of myself. “You're not going to kidnapped and murder me, right?”
He scoffed, “Of course not.”
“Well then I shouldn't worry.” I said. “I need a ride to Los Angeles, please.” I begged. “You are right though, if someone else decide to help I’m taking a risk it's some old dirt bag who'll try to rape me. Don't want that on your mind forever right?”
He stared at me for a moment, debating with himself until he groaned and unlocked the door, “You're lucky I have to drive to San Diego.”
“Must be my lucky day.” I said as rested myself on the seat. I brought my nail up to my mouth and chewed on it. It was quiet for a while there and I knew it was a long three hour drive until we get there. I turned to look out the window to the back of truck and looked at him, “Driving for work?”
“Yeah, I have some friends down there who got me a job—wait, why am I telling you this?” he questioned. “Why are you going to Los Angeles? Ran away from mommy and daddy because they wouldn't let you do what you want?”
“I ran away from a group home.” I said and he stayed quiet as his eyes widen slightly. “I just turned eighteen, so I thought they're going to get rid of me once school over why not just leave now?” I bent the truth a little because I was afraid if I told him I was still seventeen he might drop me off at a police station which must have been his idea I wonder.
“Why Los Angeles? Isn't exactly glamorous like on TV.” he said.
“City of Angels right?” I said and he chuckled. “No, I know some people there but I had to find my own way down.”
He glanced at me quickly, “You're still dumb for hitchhiking.”
“Is that how treat everyone you pick up?” I asked.
“I stopped to hope to talk you into this is a dumb idea and to go home. I'm just a good guy.” he said. “What's your name?”
“Mat.” I said.
“Seriously.” he said.
“I am serious, it's Mat.” I said, chuckling. “What's yours?”
“Zack.” he said.
“Ah, I would have guessed.” I said and he gave me a confused look. I shrugged my right shoulder, “You look like a Zack.”
“What does a 'Zack' look like?” he asked, chuckling.
“Like how you look.” I said.
*
I jumped out of Zack truck, “Are you sure you're going to be alright?” he asked.
I looked around, “It's one in the morning and there's a ton of lights still up, I'm sure.” I said. “Thanks for not kidnapping and murdering me.” I said and he smacked his tongue against his teeth, grinning. I closed the door, “Thanks Zack, much appreciated.”
“Try not to get rob.” he said
I grinned, “I like to see the fool who picks with me.”
I stepped back and he raised his hand in a 'bye' gesture before driving off. I turned and sighed, not sure where I'm going to start first now that I'm here. I pulled the strap of my back over my shoulder and began down a street. I was surprised at how awake the city. I was so use to everything being so dark by ten o'clock.
It took me awhile to find where a group of bikers where. They were the stereotypical bikers you would find in the city and I was so hesitant to go over to them. I wasn't afraid of them, but I wasn't going to be dumb. I started my way over towards them but I chickened out when I was only a few feet away and decided to walk past.
I brought my finger up to my mouth and chewed when one of them spoke, “Where you off to cutie?”
I paused and squeezed my eyes tightly, cursing in my head. Idiot! I turned to face them, holding my chin up high, “None of your business.”
They all laughed and a girl who looked a few years old came over, “What's a sweet little pup doing out here? You should be safe at home with mama and daddy.”
I shifted my weight onto my one of my legs, “I can take care of myself.”
“Dollface, you aren’t going to survive out here all buy yourself.” she said.
“I'm not buy myself—I’m looking for someone. Maybe you could help.” I said.
She grinned, “Why should I help you?”
“Because it won’t kill you.” I said
“You're out here with the big dogs, sweetheart. A question from me isn't going to be cheap.” she said.
“Well I have no money, I'll probably be digging through a trash can for breakfast.” I said coldly and she looked amused. I scoffed, “Do you know a couple with the last name Vaughn?”
She shrugged her right shoulder, “Sorry dollface, I don't.” she said. “Who are they?”
“No one.” I said as I turned and walked out. “Thanks.” I sarcastically said
“Hey, hold up.” I heard the woman said and I stopped, my eyes closing as I groaned in frustration. I wasn’t looking for any trouble and I knew this chick was trouble. She had black skinny jeans two sizes too small. Heavy case of makeup and straight long blonde hair. Bitch was spelled across her forehead and it didn’t mean ‘female dog’. “You hungry, pup?”
I turned my head to look at her, “What’s the price?”
She chuckled, “Smart. Not seeing a young girl dead on the streets later on from either having a mouth or from starvation.”
Killian
“I may have not liked dealing with things,” Devin said coldly as he drove. “But I never ran away.”
“Stop comparing yourself with Mat.” I said.
“She’s my sister.” he said.
“That you just met, doesn’t mean you two share everything in common.” I said since I was getting tired of hearing him complain about Mat and her actions. I was pissed as ever with him to, but I wasn’t about to start saying shit about her. She pissed me off with running away, but didn’t change anything about how I feel.
“Oh really?” he asked. “And how long have you’ve known Mat? This is going on your third week? No wonder she freaked out and left.”
I scoffed, “Wolves always do this. They meet, fall in love, and get married a short while later. My grandfather met my grandma when they were both eighteen and he proposed three days later. You were raised just like a human, you’re still new to this so I wouldn’t expect you to understand our culture.”
He stopped the car quickly and I sat up, glaring at him. His hand tightly held onto the steering wheel as he turned his head to me and just like wild wolves, we glared heavily at each other. I felt threatened by him, so I more than ready to start a fight with him.
“You don’t know anything about me, Arkwright.” he said.
“And you know nothing about me.” I said. “You’re sister is my mate, just know that.”
