Chapter 46

Hello! I am back with a new chapter for you all. I can't believe it but we are nearing the end of this fic. It's crazy! Still holding off on the sappy thank yous until a bit later, but do expect it, I'm just that type of person. Until then though, please enjoy this new chapter!

"It needs to be better," Seungcheol huffs from where he sits in the throne, "The suits that my father had commissioned are good, but not good enough. Base it off of the faction vamps ones, but make it even better than those!" The vamp who was showing off a piece of a suit that was being built to take on the hunters leaves after receiving feedback from the King. The suits may have worked against the hunter clans, but they are going against another group of vamps who have been making their own silver weapons. Their current protection won't do anything. "Sire, what should we do when the hunters arrive?" One of the vampires asks.

"I want only Jihoon to be there to greet them." Seungcheol states, knowing it would be best for his lover to greet his friend and his people, "Tell him to go to the guest entrance now. They should be arriving soon."

"But, sire, are you sure about leaving him with the hunters?" The vampire questions.

"I invited them here," Seungcheol says, "Why would the hunters wish to cause any trouble?"

The vampire nods and bows, "Of course, your Majesty." He scampers off to go find Jihoon, leaving the already crowded and noisy meeting room. Following Seungcheol's announcement, things got crazy real fast. Preparations were being shifted towards taking on the vampire clan. Seungcheol had thought that the vampire society would be more prepared, but since they believed their enemy to be the hunters they were geared up to fight against humans, not more vamps. The King with the help of his advisory board has been hard at work for hours on end shifting their attentions to new weapons and protection against the faction. Due to the attack, they were exposed to the assortment of toys the faction vamps have up their sleeves. Their weapon masters and scientists have been hard at work creating things that could overpower these weapons and even protect them out in the field. The guards and other vampire volunteers training regiments have shifted to become more rigorous. After all, fighting a vamp is no easy task. On top of that, repairs to the palace are still underway so the manpower within the society is all over the place. Seungcheol was forced to put a stop to the train going to the human world for the sake of the vampires and cause they needed more hands to help. Wartime was no walk in the park and it was honestly making Seungcheol regret saying he would deal with the faction right away. "You look exhausted," Jeonghan says, approaching his best friend with a stack of papers in his hands.

"That's cause I am," Seungcheol sighs, rubbing his face, "Being King is exhausting."

"What did you expect?" Jeonghan says, "We are about to go to war."

"Never thought that my first action as King would be to declare war against an evil faction of vampires," Seungcheol huffs.

"Well, on the bright side, you'll definitely be going down in history when this is all done and over," Jeonghan says with a grin.

Seungcheol laughs, "Great. What are those?"

"Papers for you to sign," Jeonghan states.

"Sign for what?" Seungcheol asks.

"Safe houses for the people," Jeonghan says, "Just in case the attack doesn't go as planned and the society is forced into hiding." Seungcheol sighs and gestures for Jeonghan to bring them to him. His friend steps up towards the throne and passes the stacks of paper to the King. Seungcheol reaches for his pen and begins to scrawl his name across each sheet. "This better all be worth it," Seungcheol mutters as he finishes signing the last sheet. He looks around at the people within the room. Wonwoo is speaking with a small group of scientists, who are trying to figure out how to do something about liquid silver or gas. Mingyu is speaking with his father, whose leg was severely injured during the attack which forced him to step down from his position, about a new training routine. Jun and Minghao are speaking over the phone with other foreign vampire societies to see if they could supply even with the littlest bit of help to them. Seokmin and Soonyoung are speaking with volunteers, who keep flooding into the castle each day saying they wish to fight. Hansol is going over the weapons and supplies that the society still has following the attack while Seungkwan is focused on the other issues the society still has even during this time of war. "It will be," Jeonghan says, "Things will calm down after we've dealt with the faction."

"I hope that's true," Seungcheol says, "If things go well, this one attack should end this once and for all." He knows that it's wishful thinking. They don't know how many the faction has and they have no idea what weapons they have under their sleeves. They are going into this fairly blind. They will plan as well as they can but something can and most likely will go very wrong. "My King," Jihoon says in a loud voice where he stands by the doorway. There's a large group of people standing behind him with straight faces on. The vampires start to stare at the group, identifying them immediately as hunters, and start to whisper to one another. "Welcome," Seungcheol states, "Please, come in, we have much to discuss."

"This is what we know so far about the layout of the faction's new hideout," Daniel says, "We think the best place of entrance would be here and here." He unrolls a large sheet of paper that has a highly well drawn out map of area they plan on attacking. Everyone is seated in the meeting room, more chairs dragged in to accommodate the hunters. Seungcheol dismissed everyone else except for his friends, telling the others to continue with their work and only come in if it was a matter of life or death. "We can also hide out around the perimeter at about here and here," Sungwoon says.

"That would give us a good vantage point," Mingyu murmurs, "Has the faction vamps noticed you yet?"

"Not that we know of, so when we do attack we should have the element of surprise on our side," Seongwu states.

"That's good," Minghao says, "We don't have much to go on with these guys. If we're catching them off guard, it really could give us the upper hand and help us win this thing."

"Has your spies been able to uncover anything else?" Seungcheol asks, "I would prefer to know a bit more about our enemies before we go through with this."

"We found the leader," Jisung says, "He stays here. He's an old dude with an amputated arm. Ring any bells?" The vampires all share a look with one another, wondering if they've ever seen such a man anywhere. "Could it be...." Wonwoo mutters to himself, "Do you think it's Mr. Shin?"

"Mr. Shin? As in that cranky vamp that used to come to the palace once a week to complain?" Seungkwan questions, "There's no way. He was always a bit crazy...especially after losing his leg in the last war with the hunters, but he would never do something like this...."

"Do you have a picture?" Seungcheol asks, wanting to confirm if the leader is who they think it is. Mr. Shin was a former soldier. A bit of a loose cannon. A volunteer from a poorer district within the society, who believed strongly in the supreme capability and presence of the vampire people. He didn't care much for leading or having power. He just wanted the vampire race as a whole to maintain its position above the world because in his mind they were the superior race. He argued a lot when he got in an accident during a major battle and was dismissed from the guard ranks. He would come to the palace and demand a word with the King about the way he was handling things. He stopped coming when the war ended and the new laws were past. Everyone had assumed the grumpy dude had just given up, but there's a chance that he may be the one that defected with a bunch of others who seem to have a similar sentiment. "No, sorry," Daniel says, "But, if it's really this guy you're thinking about...maybe you can convince him to stop this."

"Doubtful," Mingyu says, "I remember dad telling me about him. He would never listen at all to his superiors. He had his own rule book in his mind and he followed it. If he's decided to wipe both us and the hunters out, then that's the decision he's made."

"Well, there goes the peaceful approach," Sungwoon sighs.

"I think that we've been past that for a long while," Jihoon says from where he sits, glancing down at his still bandaged legs.

"Agreed," Daniel states, "I say we just give it to them."

"Well then, we still have to play our cards smartly," Jisung says, "What do you know about their weapons?"

"All of their own creation," Mingyu says, "And majority silver based. I wouldn't doubt that they have normal weapons for hunters, but a silver bullet is still a bullet."

"But, in regards to some of their weapons....like the gas bomb...they won't use those. The only reason they released them is because all the faction vamps were wearing masks that protected them," Jun says, "Since we are dropping in without their knowledge, they won't have time to get those gas masks on."

"That means they'll stick to guns and silver weaponry," Daniel states, "Which has its upsides and its downs..."

"We're currently trying to build a suit that can protect us during the fight," Wonwoo says, "The faction vamps have their own, but since some of those very vampires died here...we were given access to their suits and supplies. We're testing our new weapons against them and I would suggest the hunters do the same. This will allow us to perfect the weapons to bring into the field that will take them down as well as protect us from their weapons or our own if they were to get a hand on it."

"How long will this all take?" Jisung asks.

Seungcheol sighs, "We've been working for a while, but so far we still have a lot to do."

"Well, it's not like we're in a rush," Sungwoon says, "I just think the faster we get this over with the better. The only reason the faction found out that we knew of their location was because we waited for too long. We can't give them the time to find out."

"I'll do my best to speed up everything," Seungcheol states.

"Good, then we should talk about how we're getting in and what will be our first wave of attack," Daniel says.

"I say that we have a group outside and within the headquarters," Mingyu says, "Considering one of your men got inside, I'm sure that a group of vamps can get in without being detected. We have those inside start taking out as many faction vamps as possible. Of course, they'll eventually notice what's going on, but before they can get weapons to fight back the people from outside come in for a complete ambush."

"That works," Seongwu nods his head, "I think we should send in our men in waves though just to save men in case things turn south."

"I agree," Seungcheol states, "It also may be a good idea to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong."

"If we have to retreat, we can meet back up at a hunter safe house that's not too far from the faction base," Jisung says, "Hopefully, the faction doesn't throw out some weapon we're unable to combat cause the only way out of that is running as fast as we can."

"Even if they have more up their sleeves, the hope is that they have no idea we're coming and they won't be able to prepare anything," Wonwoo says, "Within the midst of an attack, they don't really have time to power up their high-tech weapons."

"We're really betting on our luck with this attack, aren't we?" Seokmin questions.

"We have to," Seungcheol says, "I would love to find out more about our enemies, but after all they've done....I don't want to give them a chance to do something like they did to the palace again..."

"We have a chance at winning this," Jihoon says, "And it's not just cause we're attacking without them knowing...we're attacking them together...vampires and hunters working side by side. They would never imagine that."

"Jihoon is right," Daniel says, "We've joined forces. And cause of that...we can win." The vampires and the hunters share a look with one another. They know what's to come ahead isn't going to be easy, but they have each other and they have luck. That has to be enough to help them come out of this alive. It has to be enough for them to defeat the faction once and for all. "Okay then," Seungcheol says, "Well, we still have a lot of work to do if we want to pull this off. Let's get to it."

It's all hands on deck in this upcoming battle against the evil faction. I hope you are looking forward to the final battle. It's going to be crazy.
