Prologue
Third Person P.O.V
Jackson, Mississippi, Valentines day, 1993
Freddy gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white as his wife's scream filled the car. She was in labor, writhing in pain in the passenger seat as she gripped the side of the car door. Her face was pale and bullets of sweat ran down her face. She breathed rapidly, but each breath would hurt. Freddy speeded past red lights, ignoring the blaring horns and flashing headlights of oncoming traffic. In his mind, there was no actual time to stop the car. He was afraid that she would die giving birth if they didn't make it to the hospital in time.
"Hang on, we're almost there," he urged, his voice tight with fear.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, the wife was fading in and out of consciousness due to intense pain. Freddy didn't even have time to explain what was wrong with her, the doctors just whisked her away. He waited impatiently in the waiting room, frantically pacing back and forth. His mind was racing, constantly thinking about the worst-case scenarios. He checked in every 10 minutes, demanding updates about his wife's health and birthing progress.
An hour passed by and he eventually got news that his wife was alive; and successfully delivered twin boys. Freddy comforted his wife at her bedside, noticing her exhaustion, and both were handed their newborns. The couple beamed-seeing how tiny their babies were. They both had identical faces and their mother's delicate features. They were born exactly 3 months early and 10 minutes apart.
After the couple had their moment with their newly born babies, the doctors took the babies for further examination. When they did-concern had spread amongst the doctors. Freddy stiffened as the doctors returned with grim expressions. They told him that they've found something unusual in one of the twins. Freddy immediately knew what he was talking about. One of his sons carried the same secret he did. He couldn't let that information slip. He made a deal with the doctors-they were to remain silent.
Days passed, but Freddy's mind would not rest. He began to think that his son's secret side would make him a monster like his once did in his younger years. He spent every waking moment making sure nothing suspicious happened until he eventually couldn't handle it anymore. The young couple argued more and more often until Freddy came to a decision to file for divorce. More days passed and the divorce was set in stone. He gained full custody of his other son, not wanting to have anything to do with the other.
The day he left, Freddy loaded his things-and his son- into his car in silence-didn't even speak a word to his ex-wife. Standing on the front porch, he gazed at her tear-streaked face and gave her a long heated kiss. Her words to him were, "Will you come back?" Freddy ignored her and entered his vehicle. She started to walk towards the car, sobbing and crying out his name. Freddy felt hurt and guilty after hearing her cry out for him, but he shoved those feelings aside.
He revved up the engine, pulled out of the driveway and disappeared into the abyss of not turning back, leaving the heartbroken woman in pieces as she called out his name one last time.
