Chapter 2-Transformation
There was a strange rhythmic beeping noise flowing through my ears as my eyes were glued shut. All I could see was darkness.
'What is that noise?...where am I?'
I slowly forced my eyes open, trying to soak in my surroundings. Bright lights illuminated the room which kind of blinded me a bit. My eyes rolled to the left, seeing the heart monitor machine that was causing the beeping noise.
I noticed that there were tubes stuck in my nose and arms. Probably was feeding me medicine. I looked to my right, seeing that my mom was lounging in a chair, wrapped up in a blanket while my sisters lounged in another, sleeping.
I moved my hand a bit as I tried to speak. My mother took notice of this.
"Oh my god. Are you okay?" she asked, jumping up quick.
"Y-yes," I finally managed to speak. I tried to move my arms, but I winced in pain.
She approached me and delicately placed her hand on my chest. "Be careful. Stop movin' so much."
I relaxed my body and asked, "W-what happened?"
"I found you on the bed unconscious after your sisters told me what happened," she told me with a worried look on her face.
As I positioned myself to sit up, I looked around the room, still gathering my thoughts. My mind was a bit fuzzy and I couldn't remember the events that took place. "H-how long have I been here?"
"3 days..."
My eyes widened. "How??"
"You were...drugged."
Flashbacks suddenly seeped into my brain–the events flowing back to me. I remembered Jacobe looming over me with a syringe and stabbing me in the neck with it. Even the "lights out" words being echoed. 'Ugh, that jerk drugged me.'
"Mom-"
"Who broke those windows?" my mother quickly blurted out. She looked at me with her glassy eyes that had bags under them.
I hesitated for a moment before saying anything. "Umm, there was a...boy. He was the one who broke them."
"Did he look like you?"
My eyebrows scrunched together. "You knew?"
She swallowed harshly. "I-"
"You knew. You knew I had a twin brother," I raised my voice, anger rising.
"Jake, I'm sorry but you weren't supposed to find out this way."
"When were you gonna tell me?"
"I don't know."
I scoffed and snatched the tubes off of me, not even caring about the pain. My mother tried to stop me but I ignored her. On impact of standing up, my legs just let me collapse onto the cold floor.
"Jake! Are you okay?!" she asked me in panic as she ran over to me, picking me up.
"I'm fine," I grunted. I glanced over at my sisters and they were still sleeping despite the commotion. "I need to go to the bathroom."
I left the room and basically limped all the way down the hall, passing doctors who gave me funny looks. I must've looked like a mental patient, walking through the hallway like that with a hospital gown hanging onto my body. I ignored them and kept walking until I found one of those personalized bathrooms.
I did my business and splashed my face with hot water. 'I can't believe that she kept this from me. What was so secretive about this situation?' Taking a deep breath, I splashed hot water on my face again. 'And what did Jacobe mean by different?'
A sharp pain in my neck sprung a reaction out of me. I immediately flew my hand to my neck, rubbing where the pain was. The pain subsided a bit afterwards and I shrugged it off. I stared at my reflection in the mirror and saw my eyes flicker to gold, making me jump back.
'What the hell was that?'
I rubbed my eyes and looked back in the mirror. My eyes glowed again and I started panicking. I splashed my face again with more hot water, but my eyes were still glowing gold. I gripped the sink as my stomach began having a weird feeling. In seconds, it crumbled to pieces.
I stood there, trying to make sense of what just happened. 'What is happening?' With shaky hands, I opened the door and exited the bathroom. As I speed walked back to the room, I hid my eyes away from the doctors.
I avoided eye contact with my mom as I strolled into the room.
"Everythin' alright?" she asked.
I ignored her and went straight to the window to distract myself, admiring the view. The dark night sky, the full moon shining bright like a diamond. The reflection of my golden glowing eyes were staring back at me. It was a bit eerie.
But then, my stomach started feeling weird again. I collapsed to my knees and rolled onto my back, crying out in pain. My mother rushed over to me, placing her hands around me, checking for anything.
She asked me what was hurting and I didn't answer. Just kept crying out in pain. My sisters woke up from the disturbance. I heard Riley say, "Momma, what's wrong?"
My mother shouted at them to go get help, they didn't even have time to process what was actually happening before sleepily running out of the room. I turned onto my side and tried to get up. But agonizing pain shot through my body as I felt my bones snap and my bones switching places.
It felt as if I was morphing into something. My mother began backing away slowly, observing the horrific scene taking place in front of her as I kept screaming in agonizing pain. My screams were replaced with growling as I got on my hands and knees.
My legs snapped to possibly shape itself which made the pain more intense and unbearable. As I watched fur sprout out my arms and around my hands, I noticed a blue aura surrounding me, causing my body to glow.
'What's happening to me? And...why am I glowing?"
After what felt like an eternity, everything stopped.
Doctors immediately came in, but stopped before they could come close. I glanced at my hands–or what was my hands. They were paws covered in jet black fur.
I was standing on all fours like a dog or a wolf. I looked at my mom. Compared to her, I was actually her height. So I was about 5 feet tall.
All of a sudden, the lights went out and an alarm started going off. Adrenaline kicked in and I went into flight or fight mode. All of the control I had over myself was just gone.
I let out a growl and dashed past the doctors, knocking them over. I didn't know where I was going. I needed to just get out. The smell of medicine and cleaning chemicals filled my nostrils and it was very loud.
'What did Jacobe do?'
'Is this what he meant by different?'
'How did this happen?'
'What am I?'
I saw security guards and police officers up ahead and stopped. I growled at them fiercely and they shot me with what was probably a dart. I whimpered and howled until I blacked out.
