CHAPTER 43: The morning after
I felt something poking my nose.
"Rylie, it's Sunday. I'm sleeping." I turned over with my eyes still closed.
The poking didn't stop.
"Rylie!" I whined and threw a pillow at her direction.
"Oof!"
My eyes shot open and squinted when I saw walls of a very unfamiliar room. Memories of yesterday came back in flashes and my eyes grew big when I remembered the last thing I did before I went to sleep.
At the exact same moment, I felt someone shift beside me.
Oh dear God.
An arm grabbed me by my waist, making me face its owner.
"Buongiorno, little girl. Wakey wakey time."
Groaning loudly, I pushed his hand away and covered my face with the duvet. "Go away."
"I don't think that is going to happen any time soon."
"I don't care. Let me sleep."
"I think that is not going to happen now. It's almost eight."
"What?" I faced him and all of my breath left me. Gosh, he looks so... tempting. Does he wake up every morning like this? Suddenly I felt conscious about myself and hid my face again.
He laughed heartily. "Amelia, why are you doing this?"
"My breath stinks." I mumbled.
"Then that makes two of us."
He snatched away the cover from my body and pulled me straight into his arms, sealing my lips with an earth shattering kiss. We moaned together and it made me dizzy. Everything about him made me dizzy.
"Buongiorno." He murmured.
Is it bad that a very selfish part of me wants to wake up like this every morning?
I caressed his jaw, feeling prickles of his beard and snuggled closer to him. "Buongiorno, capo."
"Hmm... I do not do this hugging thing." He sighed and began to play with my hair.
"I don't do it either, but you feel warm. Are you always this warm?"
"Not that I know of. It's for the best if we stop this hugging activity if we do not like it or wish not to continue any further."
I nodded enthusiastically. "That sounds absolutely correct. Why don't we give it a minute or two to think about it?"
"I believe we can."
We fell into a peaceful silence. I listened to his rhythmic heart beats while he kept playing with my hair. I probably looked like a zombie and he probably didn't care.
"This is nice." He hummed.
"Yeah, this really is nice. No rules. No boundaries."
"No limits." He added.
I chuckled. "No escaping. No worries about your father after me or something. It's just..."
"Peace. And that is something which does not happen quite often in my world."
I ran my fingers over his clothed chest and sighed. "It happens in mine, but it hasn't happened for quite some time now."
"I like this... peace and I do wish for it to happen every morning. It sure will give me a great start to my busy day."
"Busy day? It's Sunday. A world wide weekly holiday."
"Not in my world." Of course. For a minute, I did forget what kind of world I had woken up to.
We heard a chime and I watched the Agostini son grab his phone from the nightstand.
"It's Adrian. He's up and ready for breakfast. He'll meet us down."
"Okay." I mumbled and hid my face in his chest, breathing in his manly scent and sighing in content. This feels perfect.
He engulfed me in his arms. "I told you that I do not do this hugging thing. I do not hug."
"And I told you that I don't do this either. So shut up."
And shutting up is exactly what he did for the next fifteen minutes.
Adrian waved his hand high up in the air as we entered the restaurant to have breakfast. The brothers were back to their usual three piece suit instead of casuals for today.
"So did you have fun last night?" He asked as soon as we took our seats.
"That, mio caro fratello, is none of your business." Leonardo said flatly.
"Wow. I did not know that you had another tattoo, Leo." Adrian motioned to a big dark red patch on his neck and smirked. "This one looks better."
My face turned red in embarrassment. "T-That was in a spur of moment!"
His attention turned to me and grinned mischievously. "I had no idea, Amy. Thank you for sharing that detail with me. Please tell me that my brother used protection last night because I am not ready to be an uncle and change di—"
"Adrian!" His brother snapped. "Stop your nonsense this instant."
He clicked his tongue. "I'm just giving you a heads up if she gets pregnant. Padre will go macho on both of you and I will not support you in that."
"Adrian..." Capo groaned.
I covered my face with my palm, unable to speak any words.
"I do know about your little key card mishap. Just saying, you know? Don't give me that face. I'm speaking for your own good."
Leonardo stood up. "That's it. I'm getting some breakfast!"
My face paled in horror. "Hey! No! You can't leave me alone with him! I love my life!"
Leonardo Agostini had vanished into thin air.
Adrian Agostini was smiling at me.
"Hey look, you have same multiple tattoos on your neck!"
I groaned loudly and covered my neck with my hair. "Are you done? Because nothing happened."
He looked at me as if I had grown two head. "Nothing? You're joking, right? My brother can never sleep in a same bed with a woman without screwing her."
"When you say screwing her, you mean..." I made a hand motion of my finger thrusting inside my fist.
The old couple from last night, sitting only two empty tables beside us, saw me and got up from their chairs. They shot me a very dirty look and walked away.
"Si, Amy. That is exactly what I am talking about." Adrian laughed.
I frowned. "We didn't do anything like that. Just sleeping."
"Just sleeping? Wow again. You really do have some weird influence on him." He mumbled the last part to himself but I heard it.
"And what about you? How was your night? Heard you watched football." I asked with keen interest.
His brows burrowed slightly. "It was fine. A good match. A tasty dinner while answering some mails, but when I slept... I felt really uncomfortable. Like something was itching me."
"Itching? Like physically or..."
"Physically. It was burning me slightly too."
"Maybe you caught some sort of allergy?" I suggested.
"I don't have any." He answered with a shake of his head. "I had to take a very cold shower to soothe myself, wore my pajamas and went to sleep but it didn't work."
"Then what did you—"
"I slept naked." He blurted.
"That was something I didn't need to know." I mumbled dryly and took a sip of my water.
Capo came back with our breakfast and when I say 'our' I meant his breakfast along with mine. Adrian was sulking. I realised that it was an open all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and told him that I could have brought it myself. Instead of heart touching, I found it utterly annoying when he said that he didn't want me to get lost in the restaurant.
I had my first breakfast with the brothers and I enjoyed it.
Soon, we were on our way back to mansion. The ride back was almost silent and gloomy from my side. Leonardo had taken the responsibility to drive back since Adrian had started receiving multiple calls related to their 'Sunday job'. Somehow, I knew they were meant for Leonardo, but I found it interesting when I saw Adrian in full working mode from rear mirror. There was a permanent frown on his face, brows always furrowed and his voice firm and authoritative as he spoke. I found it fascinating to see him like this for the first time.
I sighed softly and gazed out of the window, watching the trees, people, shops and everything fall behind us as we went forward to our destination. I was surely going to miss this all. Roaming freely, running in a park, doing window shopping and so on.
Suddenly, I felt another hand grab mine and I saw it was Leonardo's. His eyes were on the road and one hand on the steering wheel. Through the rear mirror, I saw Adrian having a soft, genuine smile as he watched our fingers entwine.
I don't know what he is thinking, but I do know that something has changed. Whatever thing Leo and I had before this trip, it had changed into something much more intense and amazing.
And I wasn't going to let some old carbon copy version of him ruin that.
