BONUS CHAPTER 3: A day in the company
I woke up feeling nauseous. After emptying my stomach from my last night's dinner, I realised that I was alone all this time. My lips twisted downwards. So much for I will always pull your hair when you puke and when I take you hard from behind. Well, he did the second half last night but he was due for the first half now.
"Leo!" I whined from our bathroom and threw up all over the toilet bowl again.
I got no response.
"LEONAR—Glurrgh!"
If not him, at least somebody was wishing me 'good morning and hey, just a reminder that I'm here too, mommie dearest!' in the most pleasant way possible. By the time I was done spewing, I was tired. Somehow, I managed myself to freshen up, wear the nearest clothing available to me and walk out of our bedroom.
"Leonardoooooo." I whined loudly and stomped my foot, pouting childishly after I searched for him in the entire floor. "Leonardoooooooo."
"How sweet of you to create such a petty tantrum on a Monday morning." Louisa said, after she magically appeared beside me with a bowl of fruits. "Grapes?" She offered.
I sniffed. Great. Nothing new here. I cry every morning, afternoon, evening and night. "I don't want grapes."
"Okay. Join us for breakfast, will you?"
"I don't want breakfast!" I cried. "L-Leonardo..."
She blinked. "I see my grandchild is creating a fuss in you. That's just bad and it's only the beginning."
I kept crying. "Where is he?!"
"And that's my cue to leave." She clicked her tongue and walked away.
Don't I have the best soon-to-be actual grandma around in my life? She supports me really well. Note my sarcasm.
"Leonardo..." I cried loudly as I searched for him in the entire mansion and finally gave up in the gym. I sat on the treadmill and sobbed to myself. He left me alone without saying where he went. Why did he leave me alone? He never leaves me alone unless he says so.
"Er, miss Jones?" My vision blurred as I blinked rapidly and saw Stefan standing in front of me. I barely see anybody I know. The mansion usually stays empty these days. It's just me, women who live on the other wing, John and his gardner boyfriend, a couple of guards outside and Papa, who is out of city for God knows what reason.
"H-Hello,"
"First, I must say, congratulations."
"Thank you." I mumbled in Italian and wiped my face.
"And about boss..."
"Not a single word about that idiot! I don't care about him anymore! I hate him!"
A muscle on his face twitched. "Umm... actually I was about to tell you where—"
I shushed him and started crying again. Blame my hormones. "I don't want to know where he has gone because I know where he has gone. I'm not stupid, you know? Just pregnant."
"Oh, well, um, I... Then, it's best if you head back and have breakfast. The gym is going to be occupied very soon and we wouldn't want you to get hurt in between."
"No!" I cried. "I don't want breakfast. I want Leo so you better take me to him!"
His face paled visibly. "M-Me? I must apologise, miss Jones. Boss left very early this morning and in hurry too. You wouldn't want to interrupt his work, do you?"
"As a matter of fact, I very much do now! Get Antonio and let's hit the road."
"It's raining heavily outside, miss Jones." As if the weather heard itself call out its name, a loud thunder rumbled in the sky. "It wouldn't be safe for you to travel."
"So Leo went out for work in this weather, it's fine by everybody but if I want to go out, it's not safe for me?" I sneered.
Poor man probably thinks that he made a mistake coming here. "Er, well, it's t—"
I shushed him again. "Remind me who you and Antonio are assigned to work for."
"You, miss Jones." He answered.
"And who assigned you and Antonio to work for me?"
"Boss, miss Jones."
"So for whom do you actually work for?"
"Boss, miss Jon—" I glared hard at him and he gulped. "You, miss Jones."
My mood changed instantly and I smiled sweetly at him. I got up with a newly found excitement slash anger for a certain shitty faced idiot. "That's why you come under my favorite list. I'll go fetch my sling bag and you get the car ready!"
Five minutes later, Antonio was standing outside with an umbrella over his head.
"I don't think this is a good idea."
My nose flared in anger. "Tell that to your idiotic boss! I will teach him a lesson personally. He left without telling me!"
"You could have at least worn a proper attire, miss Jones." He said as I slid myself inside the Range Rover. "If not care about the weather."
I made myself comfortable on the plush seats, a hand instinctively secured on my flat stomach. I pouted. "I don't care. Your so-called dumb boss should have cared about it before he decided to leave us alone without any notice."
"Fine. Suit yourself." He then shut the door close for me and strode around the car, to the passenger seat beside driver's, and got inside. Stefan started the engine.
"Hey, Stefan...?" I yawned like a cat as he turned on the heat. Wow. These are some really comfy seats in an incredibly comfy car.
"Yes, miss Jones?"
I mumbled something incoherent absentmindedly and looked out of my window, mentally counting the rain drops falling on the glass.
I closed my eyes and drift off to sleep.
*****
"... miss Jones?"
"I told you we should have woken her up when we were reaching the company and not when we are standing in front of it!"
"Shut up, and focus on waking her up."
My brows furrowed and I shifted a bit in my half asleep state.
"Miss Jones. Wake up. We are here."
I gasped softly and rubbed my eyes groggily when another loud thunder rumbled across the sky. I whined in protest.
"Miss Jones. Wake up."
My lips twisted nastily and I felt irritated. "What is it?" I asked with my eyes still closed.
"We are here."
Mindlessly, I got out of the car, and headed straight to the revolving door of the tall glass building which stood right in front of us. My wet pink flip flops squeaked on the marbled floor, leaving a dirt print behind every step I take.
"Which floor?" I asked Antonio, ignoring the shocked gazes around me. Stefan had gone to park the car somewhere properly.
"17th." He casually replied.
I was still sleepy, my eyes were half closed and just wanted to get this over with. I followed Antonio to an elevator when suddenly we heard a lady shouting in Italian at us.
"Miss! Miss, excuse me. Visiting hours are tomorrow! You have to inform the reception, book an appoi—"
"Shush!" I pressed a finger on my lip, snatched an umbrella from Antonio's grasp and handed it to her. "Here. Take this and hang it with the others to dry."
"B-But—You have to take appointment! This is private company and we—"
Antonio and I stepped inside the elevator and he pressed the close button. That woman's whining stopped abruptly as the door closed.
I faced him. "You just crossed Stefan in my favorite list."
"Glad I could help, miss Jones." He grinned mischievously.
The elevator dinged open and I stepped out of it. Antonio didn't.
"This is as far as I can go, miss Jones. Boss could be anywhere in this floor, as far as I know."
"Okay." I mumbled sadly and headed for the huge reception desk where I could see a man's head behind it. "Excuse me?" I asked in in fluent Italian, fidgeting with the strap of my sling bag.
He looked up from his computer screen and eyed my attire from head to toe. "Yes?"
"Amelia for Leonardo Agostini. Is he here?"
His face morphed into an ugly expression. "Mr Agostini does not tolerate one night standers in his company. Leave before I call the guards."
One night standers? This son of a...! I looked down at my attire. So what if I was wearing nothing except his usual white shirt, my pink pajama shorts, wet flip flops and my hair probably looked like a crow's nest, I was sure that I didn't pull up the look of those dumb women Leonardo used to fool around with. My value and standard in his life were much, much higher than that.
"Listen here, I just want to know where he is in this floor. It's important."
"Mr Agostini is currently busy. I must ask you to leave the premises." He said curtly and picked up a phone.
I groaned in frustration. The baby demands for its father and I demand an explanation from him! He broke a promise he made to me a couple of weeks ago and he didn't even inform!
I heard him speak in a hushed whisper to the other end of his call and seconds later, two huge guards stood behind me.
"Miss, time to leave." One of them said.
Recognition danced in their eyes when I turned around, scowling, and faced them. Dammit. It's so hard to keep up with names that I don't remember theirs. Nevertheless, I am glad that I am not going to be forced to leave now and have a nice nap with a happy growing baby who will finally have the company of its father.
"Miss Jones, what a surprise. You're here to see the boss, we presume?"
"Yes." I muttered annoyingly.
"Perhaps would you prefer waiting? He'll get in touch with boss's assistant and explain everything." The guard said gesturing to the man behind the desk.
"Hey! No. You are supposed to escort her out. She doesn't have an appointment—"
"And I suggest you to do as she says if you want to keep your job safe." The other guard warned gravely.
Hmm. I wonder how things really work around here. This looks so much interesting than things back home.
"B-But..."
"Just do it."
The reception man picked up the phone again, whispered something to the person on the other end then put it down. "Third corridor on your right."
The guard turned to me. "Enjoy your visit here, miss Jones."
I entered the corridor and I was stopped by a forty something semi-bald man. Judging by how Leonardo used to describe him, I quickly understood that he was his assistant.
"To see the boss, you have to wait till the hour ends. You can take a seat and wait here." He said formally.
"Is he in there?" I asked groggily and rubbed my eyes, motioning to the giant door behind him.
He eyed me weirdly. "Yes. But how did you know?"
I shoved past him and barged in the office.
"What in the..." Leonardo trailed off in shock the moment he saw me. I removed my flip flops and simply crawled up on his lap like a child and snuggled. I sighed in content and rested my hand on my stomach. Mission accomplished.
It was then I realised that he was not alone and was sitting in front of two people. Hello embarrassment, long time no see.
"Don't mind me," I mumbled softly and adjusted myself properly on his lap. "You guys can carry on."
I met with a pin drop silence. I frowned. Did I interrupt something important? Is he not happy that I'm here? I saw the desk and it was full of papers and sketches. Is he trying to buy an artist?
"Gentlemen, why don't we take a short break? I have some urgent pressing matters to take care of." Leonardo said, tightening his grip around me.
After they left, I thumped his chest and sniffled. Hell, I don't cry at every little thing and yet here I am, on the verge of crying again.
He raised an eyebrow but did not speak anything.
"Why is it so damn hard to see you here?" I asked. "You're not the Prime Minister."
"There are a few safety protocols here but never mind." He answered nonchalantly.
"You left without informing." I mumbled sadly. "We didn't like it."
"On the contrary, I was going to call after this meeting. I had no intentions of ruining your sleep. You do need rest after all."
"We are here now so no need to call. Surprise." I said flatly.
"A very amazing surprise indeed." He laughed heartily. "If I may ask, what the hell are you wearing?"
"Clothes." I sighed. "I got sick. You weren't there."
He arranged those sheets properly. "I apologize. I understand that you are upset at me."
"Upset? I was supposed to lash out on you but now I'm too tired to argue with you. I want to sleep more." I said honestly. "That's all I do nowadays. Sleep."
"If that's the case, I'll get someone to arrange some pillows and a blanket for you."
"A blanket would suffice." I smiled to myself as I buried my face on his chest. "I already have my pillow."
He laughed nervously. "Amy... you seriously don't mean that, do you? Clinging on me is out of topic for today. I have got to attend a few more meetings."
"You left us. Now, we don't plan on leaving you."
"Fuck," He cursed.
"That's highly unprofessional of you, Mr Agostini. You are a bad example to your employees."
"Amelia, jokes apart." He said seriously. "You'll sprain your back if you stay like this on my lap. There isn't enough space on this chair. I don't want you to get hurt."
"Actually, I'm quite comfortable here." I said as a matter of fact. "Wake me up when you are done."
"Amy."
"Leo."
"How am I supposed to get to another room? I do not like this punishment."
My eyes narrowed. "You should've thought about it when you decided to leave us alone without informing. Good night."
He groaned. "Amy... you can sleep in some other room or you can take the chair if you want. I'll be gone only for two hours max. Then I'm all yours for the rest of the day."
I suppressed a smile and blushed, looking down. "I thought we agreed for life."
He followed my gaze. "You are staring at it again. If you don't like it, just say it. We can always get another one."
"Just because you keep catching me staring, doesn't mean that I don't like it. I love it actually. It fits perfectly and it's nothing too fancy."
His thumb brushed over the shiny diamond circle on my left hand. Leonardo and I got engaged in Rome, on the night of my graduation. It was a simple romantic, celebratory dinner where he popped the question properly again.
He pulled out a ring from his pocket. I pulled out a positive pregnancy test from mine.
In short, it was the best night of our lives.
Later, I did show him seven more tests to confirm which made him laugh like a madman but let's just ignore that part.
The reactions of everybody back home were... surprising. Rylie cried in happiness for an hour straight. Let's not ignore the fact where there hasn't been a single baby in the Agostini mansion after Leonardo so majority of them were ecstatic. Adrian clearly made his point that he was not going to touch any single dirty diaper or change one. But when I say majority, Louisa and Marcus came into an exception. Louisa was happy about a grandchild, I could clearly see that, but she wasn't so keen on hearing the engagement. It's not that she doesn't approve of me, she is just wary on the term of engagement and marriage itself, considering how her own marriage failed drastically.
Marcus Agostini, or Papa as I call him, reacted in a very strange way. Our conversation went like this...
Me: Hi Papa. What are you doing?
Papa: (insert ignoring silence)
Me: Okay... I have some news for you. Don't you want to know what is it?
Papa: What is it, woman?
Me: I'm engaged to Leonardo. (shows ring)
Papa: (sees the ring with no interest)
Me: Umm... I love him. You know that, don't you? Hope you don't mind giving me away at the wedding like we talked about.
Papa: (ignores)
Me: And one more thing... I'm pregnant. You're going to be a grandfather.
Papa: Is that all?
Me: ... Yes.
Papa: Then leave.
I can surely say that he is looking forward to good things in his life because when I went to see him next morning in his office, he wasn't there. Instead, I found a jewellery box on his chair. The set somehow looked old yet perfectly new and polished. I asked Leonardo and Adrian about it and they had no clue so I asked Louisa. It was then I learnt that it belonged to Papa's mother. A family heirloom. Obviously that soon-to-be grandma went all lovey dovey and emotional seeing that set because it once belonged to her too, then wished how she could use that heirloom to choke her ex.
I can never understand my soon to be in-laws.
"When do you want to get married?" I asked Leonardo.
"How about tomorrow?"
I hit his chest.
"Okay... Okay..." He laughed softly and went through the papers on his desk. "When do you want to get married?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. You tell me."
"Preparations take time. The only thing I care about is saying 'I do'. Maybe we could wait for our ring bearer to arrive."
"Hmm. Maybe. But then I'll have to work on loosing pregnancy weight. I want to look good on our wedding."
"You are looking good in my shirt right now, though the place is not appropriate for it. Kindly do refrain on pulling such act in future."
"I'll try." I snickered.
"Amy, I have to get back to my meeting."
"Nooooo." I whined. "Baby Agostini demands her father."
"Her?" Leonardo gasped. "Since when did you start pointing genders?"
I bit my lip nervously. "Umm... since now?"
"First borns in my family are boys. It has been for generations. He receives the finest education, training and then one day, he will sit where I am sitting now."
I scowled. Never had I ever imagined that Leonardo Agostini would be so narrow minded. "So when you say finest education... do you mean education like yours?"
His eyes diluted in confusion. "Like mine? Elaborate."
"A boring, isolated homeschooled boy with daddy issues and has no friends and neighbours till he leaves for college?"
"Hey! You wound me, Amy. I have friends. Adrian is my friend."
"Correction, Adrian is your brother. It is his duty to be your friend. It was the sole reason why he was adopted in the first place! There is no way in hell I will let my child grow up to be dull and boring like you. And stop being so... so... ugh! What will you do if the baby turns out to be a girl?"
"Then she will also receive the finest education and it would be her choice if she wishes to be a part of our family business or not. Though I would prefer not to. I must say, it gets really nasty if not maintained properly."
"And what about schooling?" I asked. "They were literally the best years of my life before I woke up here. It's a good exposure to a child."
"Why? Is homeschooling not good for a child? Adrian and I had that, look how good we turned out."
"Ever heard of preschool, middle school and high school? You meet new kids, share tiffins, make friends for life. I had all those things."
"And I fail to understand why we are quarrelling about a child who is barely a size of bean inside you. We can talk about this later properly."
Heck, I was supposed to be mad at him for deciding our baby's future alone. And somehow, I couldn't help but smile. "Been reading those pregnancy books, haven't you?"
"One chapter every night. Do tell me, is it true that you're going to produce milk from your..." His gaze fell on my chest and gulped inaudibly.
"Hmm. I am scared and excited about everything." I confessed honestly and covered my chest by folding my arms. I definitely did not like the hungry look he was giving me. We are in his company for God's sake!
"Since we are done with baby and marriage talks, Amy, would be kind enough to let me complete my impending meeting by getting off my lap?" He asked sweetly.
"No!" I said stubbornly, pouting.
"Amelia, stop acting like a child."
"I am growing a child in me! I have the full right to act like one. Maybe it will help you get into practice on how to handle one!" I snapped furiously. God, I am so ready to strangle him.
He blinked rapidly at my sudden outburst. "I... I apologize?"
"You... Y-You always scold me." Suddenly, I felt moisture trickle in the corner of my eye again and my lips tremble. "I don't like it. It sounds as if you don't love me anymore."
He sighed deeply and pulled me close to him. "Shh, go to sleep."
I choked on a sob. "You did not wish me good morning, you did not inform me that you were leaving, you did not help me go through my morning sickness and you did not even give me or the baby a goodbye kissy. You just banged me hard last night and left like you used to do with your dumb women of past. You don't love me anymore. I am all alone in this world with a baby growing inside me." I squirmed on his lap and struggled to escape his hold on me. My wails became louder. "Let go off me!"
"Amelia, Amelia... Amelia! Look at me!"
"No! I don't want you anymore!"
"You can sleep on my lap, Amy."
I stopped crying and hiccuped. "I-I can?"
He nodded. "Make yourself comfortable and rest. I'll ask my assistant to get a blanket for you."
I sniffed, my heart swelling in joy. "I love you, August-mini."
He gave a quick peck on my head and caressed it. "Go to sleep, Amy. I'll be right here."
*****
The next time I woke up, I was surprised to find myself on Leonardo's lap with a blanket over me. I had actually assumed that he would pick me up and lay me on a couch or bed, if possible. I stirred slowly and winced slightly at the sharp pain on my neck.
"Morning." Leonardo grumbled, not taking his eyes off the laptop screen.
"What... What time is it?"
"Eleven. You slept for four hours."
"My neck hurts."
"Expected that. You were quite reluctant to get off my lap even in deep sleep."
"I was?" I gasped in surprise. "What about your meeting? Did you postpone it?"
"No," Came his answer. "We attended it."
I blinked. "How?"
"Fortunately, the floors are smooth and my chair has wheels. I dragged us. I happen to have quite an experience on it, did you know that?"
"So you attended all your meetings while I was sleeping on your lap?"
"Yes."
"Nobody questioned it?"
"No."
"How so?"
"I threatened that I will either fire them or dissolve their company at the lowest rate considering their occupation, if they shall ever say a word about the sleeping woman in my arms."
My eyes widened. "You wouldn't."
"I can and I did. Speaking of which, how many years of experience should my human resources department put up on advertisement for a new finance analyst?"
"W-What?" I blurted in shock.
"Should I tell them to hire a newbie or someone with experience? I do understand that a newbie will need experience too but I rather prefer someone with experience."
"You fired your finance analyst?"
"Why yes, I did. He was staring at your legs. I can understand that your legs look damn sexy in those shorts but they are mine to stare. He crossed a line, so I crossed him out of my company. Too bad I couldn't end his life then and there. I have a strict personal policy on not shooting my employees but if I ever get my hands on that little fucker again, he can kiss his life goodbye."
I frowned. "You shouldn't be so harsh on your employees. They are the ones who are keeping this place running."
"They work well, they get raises. They stare at my woman's legs, they get fired. End of discussion."
My stomach growled in hunger. Leonardo heard it. "And I have learnt that you haven't had your breakfast. What were you thinking? You are supposed to be well rested and well fed for the sake of your and our child's health. You are skipping your vitamins if you don't have your breakfast and I will not let that happen at any cost. Now you may get off my lap. I have been controlling the urge to pee for more than four hours now. It's not good for my health."
"Oops. Sorry, and thank you." I finally got off from his lap and stretched, smiling in content. Leonardo went into the bathroom while I took in my surroundings. I had seen it in background countless times whenever I used to video call Leo. Same grey brown wallpapers, book shelves, a few trophies on it, a couple of boxes in the corner. Nothing fancy.
"So what do you want for breakfast?" Leonardo asked as he took his seat.
"Umm..." I licked my lips at the thought of having delicious food in my system. "... Donuts. Banana milkshake. Ice cream. Maybe add something spicy on it? Like chilli sauce."
He stopped whatever he was typing on his laptop. "You want chilli sauce... on donuts?"
I grinned excitedly. "Yes. Sweet, warm, cold yet spicy. Order it for me, will you?"
"Of course." He muttered.
I kept roaming around in his office with no work, occasionally staring outside the glass window or reading a chapter from the books he has on his shelves then roaming again, waiting for my breakfast.
"You know, I can never get used to this sight." Leonardo spoke after a long moment of silence. I had chosen not to disturb him from his work till he was done with it.
"Huh? What sight?"
"You. In my office. Barefoot. Pregnant. Wearing my shirt."
A blush adorned my cheeks. "I don't plan on making this as a routine so shut up."
"I am still having a hard time believing that you are actually here. This is your first time in my company. You deserve a personal tour from me during lunch hour."
I thought for a moment then said, "Nah. I want to have my lunch in lunch hour."
"That's in two hours." He revealed. "Your breakfast isn't here yet and you are already planning for lunch? Let me give you a tour, Amy."
"No," I shook my head. "I want to eat because tomorrow morning, I will throw up everything I ate. No tours. Maybe someday later."
His intercom rang on his desk. He picked it up and whispered something lowly.
"Your breakfast is here." He informed.
"Good. I'm famished!"
"I decide to skip meetings and I miss this?!"
Adrian Agostini was standing on his brother's doorstep with my breakfast in his hand.
"How nice of you to invade my privacy, Adrian." Leonardo muttered. "Don't you have some papers to go through?"
"Damn. So the rumours were true after all." He breathed out as he gave me my breakfast. "You are here."
That caught Leonardo's attention. "What rumours? Who wants to get fired next?"
"Oh. Nothing big. Nothing serious." Adrian waved it off. "Just a girl with a huge diamond ring on her finger was asking for the owner. By any chance that girl was not you, Amelia?"
I crumbled a tissue paper and threw it at him. "Of course that was me. You think your brother is engaged to two women? I'd shoot that other woman after stealing your gun. He's mine."
Yes, living with them has taken a toll on me. I'm not sorry about this.
"That would be a fun scene to watch." He sighed dreamily. "Too bad I won't tell you the password to my safe locker."
"And I have no idea whether I should be proud of you for being so possesive or concerned about those violent thoughts." Leonardo mumbled to himself loud enough for us to hear.
"Apparently, the gossip around here is that you guys are engaged..."
"Which we are." I confirmed, munching on my donuts.
"... Or you are cheating on your fiance."
I started coughing. Quickly, Leonardo got up from his chair and handed me a glass of water.
"Thanks," I rasped and glared at his elder brother. "You shouldn't speak nonsense things when I'm eating. Bad manners. I can assure you, I am not cheating."
"How the hell do you hear these rumours? I am surprised." Leonardo said.
Adrian rolled his eyes. "It's called as healthy employee-boss relationship. Unlike you, I keep it strict but friendly and open enough to hear some gossips around. I keep it maintained on my floor. What happens in 20th floor of Agostini Enterprises, stays in 20th Agostini floor of Agostini Enterprises."
"Um, this is 17th floor."
"I work in 20th."
"Ah. That explains it." I picked up a sachet of chilli sauce, poured it over my chocolate glazed donut and ate it. Then I took a huge gulp of my banana milkshake. It tasted too sweet for my liking so I added chilli sauce into it, mixed it then again took a sip. Damn. That's much, much better.
Adrian's eyes grew wide as saucers. "Amy... what are you..."
"Not a single word about this, brother. Not. A. Single. Word."
"Oh. Wait. That's rude of me. You guys want one?" I offered my chocolate-chilli glazed donut. I received a curt no as my answer. Weird brothers. Won't even let me share a donut out of the goodness of my heart.
"So as I was saying about all possible rumours about you..." Adrian cleared his throat awkwardly. "You created quite a stir today, Amy. This marks as your third public appearance in three years. You sure know how to keep it low better than us."
"Thank you. I'll teach you some moves if I get the time. You have ask my assistant for an appointment." I smirked.
He shook his head in amusement and changed the topic into some business with his brother while I finished my breakfast and had my vitamins which I carried along with me in my sling bag.
"Hey Adrian, just a casual question. Would you prefer homeschooling for your nephew slash niece?"
"First, I am going to have a nephew. We all know it. God knows why, but the first borns in this crazy-ass family are always boys. You can see it for yourself when you go back home. Our great-great grandfather, our great-grandfather, grandfather, father and now this idiot. I have no idea what kind of shit these people carry in their genes but they always manage to get a carbon copy version of themselves first. One of the many things I find annoying. Second, it's going to be homeschool. Though I find the concept of losing virginity on prom night very interesting and the fact that none of us ever had a prom night, I will side on homeschooling. It's for his best."
I exhaled sharply. "You guys are the same. I give up my case on having a girl."
"Amelia, don't be so sad. At least somebody has to stand up for the losing party." Adrian cooed and raised his hand to earn a high five from his brother.
Leonardo didn't give him one. "Don't you have papers to crosscheck and file?" He snarled. "Get back to work!"
The rest of the day passed in a blur. I slept again. Had lunch which comprised of yucky green vegetables I had to ingest for my health. Slept again. Had a nice conversation with Leonardo's assistant while he was out on another meeting. We bonded through our common interest of cats and mourned together for mine. Might have shed a few emotional tears from my side. Slept again. Annoyed Leonardo and roamed around the floor without his consent which made people around give me more weird looks and being dragged back to the office by Leonardo himself, hence confirming their first rumour about their boss and I being engaged. Slept again. Made a valiant effort on seducing him which only ended up in me puking my lunch and breakfast out at the smell of his coffee breath. Slept again. Read a business strategy book. Had a mindless conversation with the baby, complaining about all the bad things its father had done in my life before we finally called it a year whilst ignoring the glare Leonardo was giving us. Slept again.
I got up from his couch and went inside the bathroom to freshen up. Surprisingly, this man has a shower and a bathtub installed here. Previously, this entire office used to belong to Papa before he retired. Leonardo changed a few things here and there to his choice which includes bathroom appliances. This actually explains how he actually left for work without taking a bath. He took a bath here. How professional of him.
I was washing my hands in front of the giant mirror when my gaze went down to my stomach. I froze.
Very slowly, I unbuttoned the lower half of my shirt and turned sideways.
Holy shit.
"LEO!"
He came running inside as soon as he heard me shout his name. "What? What happened? Are you—"
He stopped abruptly when he saw my stomach in the mirror.
Tears of happiness pooled in my eyes. "I swear it was not there this morning."
"How... How far along are you again?"
"Almost nine weeks."
"A-And you're... you're..."
"Yes."
"Are you sure that's not..."
"You finish that sentence and I won't let you touch it."
He flinched at the tone of my voice. "I was just trying to crack a joke. It's been a long, busy day."
"Don't."
He stood behind me and very gently, he touched that little bump on my stomach, which will now be rounding more for approx seven months.
"Holy fuck. This has to be the cutest thing I have ever seen. "
I giggled. "Hell yeah, August-mini. You better start learning how to change diapers."
He nuzzled my neck and breathed deeply. "Later. Under extreme circumstances, I have learnt to apologize and say gratitude, so thank you."
"What for?"
"For choosing to start a family with me. You give me the greatest joy in my life."
"So suddenly you are all lovey-dovey after knowing that I have started to show? How romantic of you."
"Don't ruin it." He grumbled and stroked my baby bump affectionately.
I had a short laugh. "Sorry, sorry. Under extreme as well as boring circumstances, I have also learnt to say a few words of affection. I love you."
"Hmm. Acceptable."
I jabbed his stomach. "Unless you want me to twist your wrist and make you incapable of touching my stomach, I suggest you to change your answer now."
He poked my nose. "I love you too, Amelia, and I always will."

I would say that this book is now officially over. There might be another bonus chapter left, if I am capable of actually completing it. No guarantees :)
ALSO I would like to thank my keyboard, mouse, hands, brain and eyes for their cooperation for completing my third story.
We are on a road to 100K reads!
Vote and comment. 😁
