Chapter 5

'Friends are
medicine for a

wounded heart,
and vitamins for
a hopeful soul.'

My mate looks at me, slight regret evident in his eyes. I shift behind a tree, pulling clothes on and sprinting towards Isla who's still unconscious.

"Isla, wake up. Isla please. Isla. Isla!" I splash water on her face, finally seeing her cough. I hug her to my chest, letting a tear slip down my face.

"Your okay, your okay." She whimpers before snuggling into me, her erratic breathing slowing down until she's calm.

"Is he gone?" She looks at me with big doe eyes, hope sparkling in her eyes. I shake my head, disappointing her.

"I don't want a mate like him Q, I don't. I might as well have stayed in my old pack."

I growl in anger, snarling. Standing up, I carry Isla and walk away from the Alpha, only to be stopped by his huge wolf in our path.

He growls at me, shoving his head in the direction of the pack house. Go. He wants me to go the pack house.

I snarl at him, baring my teeth and walking around him. Snapping his jaws at me, he places his paw on my foot, slightly extending his claws.

"Ow!" Isla stares at me with big eyes. Blood seeps from my foot and I try to keep a strong face, letting out a small cry when I accidentally hit my foot off a fallen branch.

What is it?

The piece of crap clawed me!

Watch it! I've marked you, I can hear your thoughts.

I look at the wolf, growling. We head towards the haunting pack house and I sigh. Why am I here again? Oh yeah, because of my lousy mate.

People walk past me as if a girl walking with another in her arms is not weird at all. I see a few people I recognise and I duck, pushing my hair in front of my face. I am not staying long enough for people to start talking to me, that's for sure.

We walk in the pack house and when I look back, Alpha Silas is in shorts and a tight top. Quickly, I look forward in hopes that I haven't been caught.

A few Omegas scurry out of the kitchen, handing the Alpha proper clothes. One girl hurries past me, her short frame dressed in extra baggy clothes. Her rare black hair falls past her waist and I smile, recognising my friend.

"Rhea! Rhea!" Rhea turns around, slightly confused that someone's calling her. She finally looks up to me and her eyes light up.

She hugs me and then puts a frown on her face. "Why did you leave Q? And if you were gonna leave, you were meant to take me with!"

My eyes soften and I side-hug her, sighing. "Im sorry, but I was in a rush. I didn't have time to tell anyone and I just had to leave."

She looks at me, confused. "Why are you back then? What are you doing in the pack house? And who's this? Shouldn't you be running?"

I giggle a little at the continuous questions and my eyes sadden. "I was forced to come here. You have to help me leave! And this time you can come! We can go look for your mate while we are at it. But first, let me introduce you to Isla. She was abused by her pack members and she fled. Luckily, I found her."

Rhea looks at me with pride in her eyes. "There's the nice Q! I'm happy she didn't meet grumpy you, or she wouldn't ever have stuck with you."

I roll my eyes at her sneaky comment and shove her lightly. She grins at me and leads me back to the old kitchen.

Me and Isla snack on some bread with Nutella and I turn to face Rhea. "Have you found your mate here?"

Rhea looks at me, sadness seeping from her and making the room dull. "No. Not yet. And it's been a long time! But there's so many places in the world I haven't been to and my mate could be anywhere."

They say if you don't find your mate in the first two years of you turning sixteen, it means they are most likely to not live in your country.

"Aww it's okay. Anyway, you haven't even been to the other packs, your mate might be there."

She smiles. "Hopefully." A young boy comes and hugs Rheas' side, totally ignoring me.

"Wait, is that you Kiddo? Is that little Danny boy? You've grown a lot." He turns to me, his blonde mop of a hair moving slightly. His eyes widen and he looks at me again in shock.

"Q-Q?"

I grin at his cheesy name for me when he was 7 and hug him. He's ten. I've missed three years of his life.

I stop a tear from escaping my eye and I grin at him, ruffling his hair. "So, what does your wolf look like?"

He smiles at me like someone on a Colgate advert, slowly turning into a small sandy coloured wolf. He pushes his nose into my hand and I run my hand through his soft fur.

I kiss the top of his head and he moves back, annoyed. Rhea hands him some clothes and we all turn around. A happy 'done' sounds from behind us and I turn to stare at the small boy.

I remember the first time he saw my wolf. He gasped at the redness of it and he loved it. I was one of the unique wolves because I had red fur but it matched my hair.

My hair wasn't the like ginger, it was the auburn ginger, more closer to red than orange.
It's weird because I have dark brown eyes and auburn hair.

Isla finally decides to join the conversation. "Q, who's this?"

"A werewolf, what else?"

She slaps me but smiles and I laugh. Rhea rolls her eyes and sticks her hand out. "Hi, I'm Rhea. The nice one in the friend pair. Nice to meet you Isla."

She happily shakes Rhea's hand and I grin. The start of a new friendship.

I sip on the tea given to me by Rhea and smirk. "You remember. "

She laughs and lightly punches me on my arm. "Of course I remember! Your infatuation with Tea was crazy! Green tea, cinnamon tea, chamomile tea, pink tea! Everything! Yeah you hated the cinnamon one after trying it but you wouldn't stop even when I warned you you might be sick."

I grin and continue to greedily have the beverage. The last time I had tea was from Rhea. She makes the best tea.

"I don't even understand what's so pleasing about tea, everyone knows coffee is better."

I roll my eyes and gag. Coffee is horrible. But I don't like saying it is in front of people because they pounce on me like I'm murdering their beloved.

"I have to agree with Rhea on this one. Coffee wins. But I don't mind tea." Rhea high-fives Isla but I just grumble under my breath.

The trees outside dance to the wind and I stare out of the windows, craving the air on my fur.

The doors and windows around me make me uncomfortable. Normally I'm surrounded by nature, a sense of freedom everywhere.

Here I feel like people are everywhere, judging me and keeping me prisoner. I yearn to be outside, swimming in the river or chasing a good hunt.

"No offence you guys, but you stink. And not in the 'you haven't had a shower in a while' kind of stench, but a rogue kind of stench."

I glare at my best friend, feeling a bit offended by that comment. "Hey! I'm still a rogue ya know. And it's better than being trapped inside all day. I don't know how I survived as an Omega in this pack. I thought we were privileged, but I guess nobody picked on us because we were still young."

When me and Rhea were walking to the kitchen, I saw from the corner of my eye a girl getting hit. And she looked about 20.

Rhea clicks her fingers in front of me, snapping me out of my daze. "Yeah- sorry- what?"

She groans. "I was saying that yeah, I know! I see Layla getting pulled in to random male pack members rooms and frankly, that's disgusting."

I choke on my tea and after coughing out everything, I look her in the eye. "Really?" I raise my eyebrow and she nods, gulping down her coffee.

"I just don't want that to happen to me." Isla hugs her and she looks so stressed.

"That's why I wanna find my mate so I can just up and leave." I nod but a presence that is quite distracting enters my safe haven.

"Alpha."

Rhea bows slightly before moving back. Isla's back at my side in a flash and Rhea sends me a questioning gaze.

"Mate, what are you doing here?" I pull back as soon as he tries touching me and he growls, but it's not a threat anymore.

He growls so much, it seems like he's only made for one thing: growling.

"There's a reason why I'm here Alpha. I don't want to be in the same room as you and the kitchen seemed like the perfect place. After all, it all started here, didn't it?"

His eyes sparkle. "If that's how you want to play it, then go ahead. I love a good game."
With that, he turns and walks away, striding.

Rhea turns to me. "What the hell was that?!"

What the hell was that? You tell me Rhea, you tell me. And Rhea is one of my favourite characters. She's gonna become important, so remember good old Rhea!

What do you think Alpha Silas means by a 'game'?

How do you think Quinn is going to react?

Do you think Rhea is angry that Quinn left without her all those years ago?

Don't you think Danny boy is adorable?
