Chapter 2
'When life
seems to beat
you down,
dare to fight
back.'
More trees. That has been my scenery for the past few days. Just trees. It feels like so long ago that I stepped into the human town to steal.
Claw marks. Claw marks are deeply etched in the tall trees. A territory. I'm about to pass a line that separates neutral land to pack land. Do I want to risk it?
Hell yeah!
The small surge of power tingles in my veins as I pass the invisible line and instantly I'm hit with the smell of pack wolves. This is probably going to be the people who look out for rogues such as myself.
Adrenaline shoots through my body as I attempt to think of every situation I could possibly get myself in.
A smirk reaches my face. A fight. I've been craving one for a long time. Bring it on.
Wind caresses mycheeks gently, carryin the smell of another wolf and aiding me. Closing my eyes for a split second, I call to my wolf, feeling the spark of power reach my fingertips as I do so. I really missed this.
The sensation of claws erupting from my skin fills me with pure joy as the wind picks up it's pace, urging me to begin the fight.
Turning swiftly, the twigs under my worn out shoes break under the pressure and I force my newly turned paw across the front of the attackers body.
"Motherfu**er!"
The attacker stumbles backwards, clutching his chest in pain. Crimson blood pours in betweem his trembling fingers and he looks up, eyes wide in fear.
"How does she even do that?"
"Why isn't she showing us her face?"
One seemingly annoying voice echoes from each direction. I growl in frustration as more people attack me and forcefully shove my claw in random places, hoping to the Goddess above that I hit them.
The plain black fabric covering half of my face that I had stolen earlier from the human town sticks against my face as I inhale deeply, fury filling each corner of my mind.
I close my eyes yet again, opening snd closing my hands. My ears tune into the finest of sounds, the crunch of leaves, the noise of the wind. Anything to ignore the voice and to calm down.
More werewolves approach me, snapping me out of my daze. I slowly open my dark brown eyes, locking them with the closest person to me. I plaster the facade I know the most on my face and smile widely, flashing my pearly whites at the female warrior.
In just a second, I appear infront of her, tackling her to the ground withboth of my paws. My claws penetrate the callous skin of her feet and I move forward, slashing her arms and chest.
She howls in pain but I move o, disregarding her. The wind blows agressively against my face, carrying the stench of blood with it.
I narrow my eyes at the others, breaking and scratching anything I can get my hands. All but one tunble to the ground, silence surrounding them as they do.
I turn towards the final defender, crossing my arms over my chest and raising my eyebrow.
Dirty blonde hair covers the top of his forehead, leading down to his matching eyebrows. Underneath lie two of the brightest gray eyes I have ever seen, staring directly at me. Thin lips curved into a beaming smile open and I sigh in boredom, knowing what to expect.
"What, you expect me to attack you like them idiots?"
"Watch what you say Sam, I'm still your older Brother."
Even though they can't see, the corner of my lip lifts up in slight amusement. He's the one rolling on the floor like a puppy yet he's the one making stupid comments like that.
"Bro, I'm not the one writhing in pain on the floor with a big claw mark on my chest."
Satisfaction pours over me in waves. I guess I could say that I 'called it'.
"Anyway, hello there rogue! I plan to just sit here without calling anyone cause these people are freaks and I hate them all and don't love them enough to call for help. What's ya name?"
I lean against the closest tree, staring at this person who clearly finds themselves funnier than I do. I humour him, and decide to speak, picking my nails as I do so. "I'm Q. What about you?"
He snorts."Q huh? So you're not gonna tell me your full name then? Okay okay if that's how you play it then I'm superman."
Tutting, I reply in a sarcastic voice, "I already know your name's Sam. Your brother literally just said it."
He gasps widely, slapping his hands against his sharp cheekbones. "Dayumn! It's all your fault Jack! I blame you! For everything!"
"What the hell Sam it wasn't even me! It was Cole!"
The boy points to the other one with the chest claw marks and then goes back to tending his wound on his leg.
"Oh well, you're the sibling I always blame. Back to the subject at hand, what pack were you originally from Q?"
Shaking my head, I wink and start to clap, laughing at the comment. "You really think I would tell you something as important as that?"
Huh, I kind of resemble a seal right now.
He grins at me, shaking his head. "Okay okay. Question number 2. Why do you hide your face?"
I sigh. Very loudly. "Is that not obvious? The wind has pciked up so it keeps me warm. Alternatively, it covers my face from people like you. It is really just a win win situation." Sometimes, I liketot hink I am extremely clever.
He slaps himself on his forehead, his blonde hair going everywhere.
"You idiot, this is why we never let you patrol with us."
The brother, Cole, laughs whilst saying this and then groans. That's what you get when you act like an as*hole.
Sam laughs, getting up and dusting his hand against his jeans. "Well Q, I'm gonna have to either tell the Alpha we have a surprise visitor, or you can escape whilst everyone's down. You don't seem like someone to report."
I mimic him, dusting off my leggings. Then, trying to be as polite as possible (mind you I haven't been around werewolves for so long) I stick my hand out and Sam shakes it. Maybe, I did find this kund of entertaining. Just maybe.
"I'll let you know when I'm passing through so you can sneak me across the border again. Thanks Sam, a stranger I barely know."
"All friends start as strangers though, don't they?"
I nod my head, allowing him to believe what he wants to.
"Seems like it's time to go. Anything you want me to do before I leave for my very long journey ahead?"
Sam nods, suddenly becoming more serious than before. "Answer me this, where are you going and why?"
"I'm going deeper into the woods to find a place to live."
"Why are you a rogue?"
I sigh again. He's letting me through without me having to go through the Alpha. One more question won't hurt.
"Because I'm mated to a bad man. And I don't wanna be mated to a bad man. And it's not like I had a high rank when I was in my old pack anyway. A rogue life seemed like a better life then. A way to live without worrying about my mate."
He looks at me sympathetically and then looks as if he wants to ask another question. Sighing for the third time, I motion a gesture with my hand.
"Go ahead, ask me the question you want to so badly."
He exhales heavily in relief, happy. "What do you do when your in heat? If you've met your mate, you've had to experienced heat."
I smile sadly and laugh, knowing that he can't even see that I'm smiling.
"I endure it. I go through the heat in pain and sometimes feed myself silver to block my wolf out for a small amount of time."
The boy's eyes go wide at this and he shakes his head. "That's so wrong."
"I know. But I've got to leave now so Sam, you'll know when I'm here."
"Hey but I don't even have your-"
I don't listen to the rest of it because I'm too far ahead, sprinting off into the distance.
