Chapter 5: Back home

AN: here's chapter 5. Enjoy people.

Lila's POV:

I waited in the parking lot for Ashton. While I was waiting, an Jared approached me and I had a flashback to the last time I saw Xander.

"Hey," he grinned that sleazy smile of his, "you wanna go somewhere with me?"

I looked at him in disbelief. Is he always this thick? "Why the hell would I want to go somewhere with you?"

Jared looked taken aback for a moment, "Well, I saw that you were waiting for somebody and I thought-"

"That it would be you?" I finished for him and he went slightly red when I started laughing, "the world doesn't revolve around you, dingus. You'd do well to remember that fact."

Ash's car rolled up and I sat inside, glaring at Jared. As we drove away, Ash said, "I heard the entire conversation. You remind me of my friend."

"Who?" I asked curiously.

"You don't know her," Ashton said quietly.

"Oh," I replied, "well, I would like to meet her. She sounds like a lovely person."

Ashton smiled sadly, "She died."

The rest of the ride passed by with little small talk. At long last, we reached the mansion- my old home. I had to fight the tears that threatened to fall and talk with a lump in my throat.

We walked to the front door and rang the doorbell which emitted a shrill sound. The door opened to reveal my third oldest brother.

Drake's eyes widened when he saw me, "Mystery Girl?"

Great.

Drake's POV:

"You know her?" Ashton asked, confused, looking between me and MG.

"I- yeah," I replied, a balloon of hope expanding in me, "can we talk, please?"

MG nodded and I grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the living room where the rest of my brothers were.

"Charlotte, Noah and Greg, out," I said. They obeyed, exchanging confused glances with Ashton who was behind me. When they were out, I shut the door, not missing the way MG's hand twitched towards her waist or how she automatically got into a small fighting stance.

"Who's- Mystery Girl?" Axel's expression mirrored mine and Vito's head snapped up. The other three looked confused.

Lila's POV:

A string of colourful vocabulary clouded my mind; I was so idiotic to come here and even more idiotic to say 'mystery girl' to Drake at the airport.

"Who's this 'mystery girl'?" I decided to play dumb.

"You are," Drake replied, "I saw you at the airport and at Leon's house." Fab. He had a good memory.

"Oh!" I exclaimed with fake realisation, "you're talking about my twin, Anita," did I really just play the 'twin' card?

Drake didn't seem to buy it, "Oh really? Your twin? Well, then, can we meet her?"

Damn you and your clever mind, I thought, "Uh, no, you can't," I looked down with crocodile tears shining in my eyes, "she left." Nice save.

Drake scoffed, "Oh really?"

"Drake," Aless said warningly.

"Please, can we not talk about this?" I begged, unsure if I would be able to keep up this facade any longer. Without waiting for an answer, I exited the room, real tears streaming down my face. Why did it have to be so hard?

"Lia, you okay?" Charlotte asked.

"I'm fine," I choked out, "I just need some air." And I headed in the direction of the garden, ignoring my name being called out behind me.

Drake's POV:

As soon as Amelia left, my brothers rounded on me.

"You're so stupid," Olly declared, "you made her cry. Was there really any need to push her?"

"Guys!" I growled in frustration, "That girl either knows where Lila is or is our sister herself!"

"Even if she is," Olly said, "you can't just expect her to tell us! Lila left for a reason and we should have faith that she will come back."

"Olly's right," Vito said.

"Fine," I snapped, leaving the room. I needed some air.

Outside, I saw a blonde figure standing in front of the patch of roses. Her head was tilted to the sky and she was saying, "why?" Over and over again.

Quietly, I snuck away, feeling like an awful human being. There was absolutely no need for me to have been harsh on Amelia. She's probably telling the truth, anyway.

I went to the dining room where the others were and sat next to Xander. No one mentioned the earlier scene. We all chatted and talked until Amelia entered the room. She didn't look like she'd been crying, and joined the conversation with great gusto. But I saw the way her smile was a little too fake to be real and how her eyes kept flitting between my brothers and I.

Lila's POV:

"So," I cleared my throat, "I saw some pictures of a girl in the hallway. Who is she?" Can you blame me for asking that question?

Instantly, the atmosphere became tense.

"Our sister," Aless answered tersely.

"I don't see her anywhere," I said, knowing I was treading on thin ice.

"She died," Alex answered quietly, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.

"Oh," I mumbled quietly, "what was she like?"

"Stubborn," I was not, "and sometimes a pain in the behind," you weren't easy to live with either, brother dear. Xander chuckled, "but we loved her."

"I'm sure you know what had happened to her when she was born," Vito continued and I nodded, "when we got her back..." he gesticulated, unable to find the words to describe how he felt, "and now she's gone."

I looked down. When I left, I didn't expect to have had this much of an impact on the people I loved. I was so tempted to take of the contacts and reveal my true identity, but my need to end Mr. X outweighed all that.

"So, what about you, Amelia?" Drake asked, I think he's feeling bad about earlier, "what's your life like?"

I exhaled and laid back on my chair, "do you want the truth? Or the lie?" Please say lie.

"Truth," Noah said.

"Alright," I chuckled, "my parents died when I was younger," truth, "leaving behind me and my twin sister," lie, "it was a harsh life until we were around five years old," truth, "and we met some people who made everything worth living for, I guess. Until they were killed," my eyes clouded with anger, "Anita is trying to track them down and kill them. We want revenge for our friends and all the other people who lives were destroyed because of that man," truth.

Xander's POV:

After Amelia's story, we all sat in a shocked silence. It just goes to show how the cruelest things can happen to the nicest people.

The door opened and Solomon, Reece and Will entered the room, accompanied with Zoe. I heard Amelia inhale sharply beside me.

"Hey everyone!" Will greeted cheerfully, "who's this?"

Lila's POV:

Ya'll ever had something so crazy happen to you that you wonder if your life is being written by some sadistic writer?

That was exactly how I felt when my non-biological brothers entered the room with Zoe. Zoe had changed. The eight year old's brown hair brushed just past her shoulders and her grey eyes radiated with intelligence and confidence. She smiled at me, stopped and her eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. I took a chance to examine the others.

Sol looked pretty much the same. Cold blue eyes, black hair and dressed in slacks and a dress shirt. Reece was smiling, but his amber eyes held a hint of sadness as he looked at the room. Will had changed his hair colour to mauve (AN: can anyone guess why? Hint: it has something to do with 'Lila') and his eyes held the same sadness as Reece.

Why oh why do the Fates hate me so?

"Hello," I smiled, "I'm Amelia."

"I'm-" Reece started by Zoe cut him off.

"Reece, Solomon, Will and I'm Zoe," she said hurriedly, "can I have a word with you, Amelia?"

"Um, sure," I said, reluctantly getting up and following Zoe.

She lead me to the living room and closed the door, crossing her arms and scrutinising me.

"So," I said uncomfortably, "what did you-"

"I know you're Lila," Zoe cut me off.

"What?" I asked, flabbergasted.

"I know you're Lila," Zoe continued softly, "my big sister who went missing two years ago. Please don't insult my intelligence by lying to me."

I crumbled, "okay, Zoe, yes it is me," I dropped the act, "but you can't tell anyone, okay? I have a secret mission and I need to complete it before telling anyone."

Zoe nodded, "sounds fair," and suddenly wrapped me in a hug, "I've missed you, Lila," she whispered.

I kissed the top of her head, "I've missed you too, Zoe," it felt so freeing to have finally told someone my biggest secret, "now let's go before the others get worried."

Zoe nodded and released me.

"By the way," a sudden question hit me, "how did you know it was me?"

Her eyes twinkled, "a magician never reveals their secrets."
