"Deep Water"
***
It was a good thing they stopped to get the bat.
They walked into the pool, the sounds immediately amplified by a hundred to to the echo in the walls, and that was enough to make Ollie wince as he gripped his bat in his hands and wondered what species he would have to beat up today.
Apparently, it was lizard.
"What the sweet hell is happening right now?" Katrin demanded, Ollie pulling a face as he took in the scene in front of him. He could see a body on the floor a few feet away from them, the blonde hair signifying that it was most likely Erica. Usually Ollie would have checked to see if she was okay, but right now his gaze was pinned on Stiles, who was doing an awfully good job treading water, while holding up Derek by his arms to keep him from drowning.
"Are you guys having a pool party that we weren't invited to or something?"
"Sanchez!" Derek yelled, at the same time that Stiles cried;
"Ollie! Kat! Get out of here, go get Scott now!"
There was a flurry of movement from behind that made Ollie's muscles tense, the boy whirling around just quick enough to swing the bat and smack some sort of odd creature right between the eyes. Katrin jumped, holding her hands in front of her face in surprise as the thing (Ollie honestly didn't know what the fresh hell it was) staggered a few feet back.
Katrin made a barely audible noise of pain in the back of her throat, making Ollie glance over at her, the lights from the pool casting a pale glow over her face as she reached her hand up to touch the back of her neck. She turned to look at her cousin, her eyes wide and her lips parting, "Ollie-"
And then she fell backward, falling directly backwards. Ollie lunged forward, dropping his bat, which landed against the hard tile with a metallic clang. Ollie managed to catch Katrin's arm, but the rapid fall of her body weight made him stagger forward in surprise, his foot catching on the edge of the pool and sending them both falling into the water.
Instantly, Ollie could feel panic building in his chest. It felt like a pressure squeezing his ribs, making his heart beat twice as fast and his head turn sluggish. He reminded himself to swim, opening his eyes to look through the murky water.
He grabbed onto Katrin's arm, hauling her upwards so that he could latch his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him and kicking upwards. Immediately, his senses slammed back into him at full force, making the boy gasp, water tracing down his face as Katrin coughed, her head on his shoulder.
There was a growl from the poolside, and Ollie's head whipped to the side, the icy sensation of dread trickling down his spine as he found himself staring at... well, actually, he didn't know what the fuck it was.
It was reptillian, that was for sure, with beady yellow eyes that stared directly at him, and scales that descended down it's body, encasing it in what looked like a suit of creepy lizard armour. A tail swished by it's side as it stared them down, crouched into a position as if it were preparing itself to fight them.
As odd as it sounded, that wasn't Ollie's biggest concern.
He could immediately feel his legs tense, kicking rapidly to try and keep both his and his cousin's head above the water. Still, he felt himself sinking down, gasping for breath. Katrin, who could apparently just not fucking move, spoke up. "What the hell is that thing?"
"Do I look like a fucking zoo keeper? I have-" the boy's head dipped beneath the water for a split second, before resurfacing with a sputter. "Kat, I can't do this."
"Yes you can," she said, although she was breathing heavily and was shaking her head as if to make sure she could. "If you let me drown, I'll kill you."
Ollie groaned, looking to the side when he heard splashing, only to see Stiles rapidly trying to swim over to them, dragging Derek - who seemed to be in a similar state as Katrin - along. "Don't go to the edge!" He warned, before proceeding to choke on a mouthful of pool water. "It's scared of the water."
"So am I!"
That was actually true, Ollie felt like he was seconds from death. He couldn't breath well, his chest constricted and his throat dry from his panic. He kept kicking his legs, even if they already hurt from being tackled twice in a row by crazy lacrosse lunatics. He let go of Katrin with one arm to try and use it as leverage, but he could still feel himself slipping farther under by the second.
Why did he have to be bad at swimming? Of all the things to be terrible at, it was one where being terrible at it could put you in a potentially life threatening situation. He didn't get it, either, he was kicking his legs... isn't that how everyone swims? Why does gravity decide to increase on him now of all times?
"Did you bring your phone?" Stiles asked, his face turning red from the effort of keeping Derek - who probably weighed a lot more than Katrin - afloat.
Ollie shook his head, "no, I took it out of my pocket when I played that lacrosse game. It's in Kat's purse."
"Which is...?"
"It's right there-" The girl spoke, but since she couldn't actually move, the boy's had to look around for a moment before spotting the red bag discarded on the floor a few feet away from where they were treading water. The lizard man (which was giving Ollie flashbacks to this Spider-Man movie he watched) was stalking around nearby it, fixating it's daunting eyes on the group.
Ollie turned to the boy, "Stiles's don't-"
But the boy didn't listen, making Derek yell out a warning, before his head disappeared under the water and Stiles rapidly swam forward to the edge. Ollie cursed, his head falling below the surface of the waves for a split second, before resurfacing when Katrin bit his shoulder. "Ow!"
"Don't drown!"
"I can't just not drown!" Ollie shouted back, resisting the urge to look down and see if Derek was alright. Before he could, Stiles rejoined the small group, breathing heavily and holding Ollie's phone in his hands. "Don't get my phone wet!"
"I'll buy you a new one!" The boy shouted back, although Ollie knew that wasn't true as he held the device to his ear. "Scott-!"
There was some muffled words from the other end of the line, and then Stiles pulled the phone away with a shocked expression look on his face. The Hispanic boy groaned, "just do it!"
"Thank you-" Stiles dropped the phone in the water, swimming down to grab Derek, who was gasping for air by the time they resurfaced. Ollie closed his eyes, his chest aching and his heart pounding in tune with his anxious heart. "Stilinski I will kill you!"
"Don't drown!" The boy shot back, reaching over to grab the back of Ollie's shirt as if it would stop him from drowning. The boy coughed, gasping for air as he tightened his grip on Katrin, praying that the fact that she was incapitated would give him the will to not sink.
Hours seemed to pass with every second, and Ollie could feel his head begin to hurt. "I can't-" he gasped, "I can't stay up any longer, I need something to hold on to."
Stiles's eyes raked across the room, before coming to a stop on the diving board, his eyes widened. "Ols, come on-"
The boy mentally cursed out every single person he could think of, kicking his tired legs and using his arms to push himself towards the diving board. He managed to get to the edge with minimal drowning, reaching up to try and grab the small pole suspended over the water.
His fingers brushed the cool metal, before missing and falling back to his side, the action causing his head to duck back under the water. He squeezed his eyes shut, but he couldn't bring himself to get to the surface. He could feel Katrin's weight be lifted from his chest, his eyes opening as panic thrummed in his chest.
A hand grabbed his arm, heaving him upwards high enough for his forearms to rest on the edge of the pool as he coughed, his chest heaving as he tried to remember how to breathe through his ever increasing anxiety.
He heard a growl and looked up, only to see that it was just Wolf Scott, relaxing and leaning his head on his arms.
He didn't know what the hell that thing was, but he didn't like it one bit.

Ollie was really not in the mood to talk to Derek Hale.
So when he showed up in his bedroom in the middle of the night, he was rightfully pissed off. Not all that surprised, which was mildly concerning, but still annoyed. He stared at the man as he opened his door, Derek staring back at him from a dark corner, his arms crossed tightly across his stomach.
Ollie sighed deeply, "I leave to brush my teeth for two minutes-"
"We need to talk." The man straightened up, taking two steps closer to the boy, only to stop when he grabbed his bat and pointed it threateningly towards the man.
"Fuck off," he said, although didn't look all that daunting in his sweatpants and old t-shirt, his hair messy and his entire persona showing how he wanted to go to sleep. "I'm not in the mood. We both almost drowned today, remember?"
"Which made me think-" Derek began, narrowing his eyes, "-how inconveniant it was that Denny was paralyzed instead of you."
Ollie scoffed, "what, you like my cousin now, Hale?"
"Oh, I don't like any of you." He shook his head slightly, "I mean since you are pretty much the only person in the world who can tell me exactly who that kanima is. Right now, I have my bets placed on Lydia Martin, but I do want to be sure."
"Well too fucking bad for you," Ollie rolled his eyes, "it's obviously not Lydia, have you seen the girl like... ever?" He pulled a face, "She refuses to do gym because she doesn't want to break her nails, and you think that she could rampage through an entire fucking indoor pool and break like, four windows in the process? Not your smartest thought, Hale." He gestured to his door, "now, get the hell out of my house or I'll report you and have you arrested again."
"Well that's not very nice, Sanchez." A new voice spoke, and Ollie jumped- whirling around to face Isaac and Erica, the former who spoke; leaning against his doorframe as if he didn't have a care in the world. He grinned at Ollie, who could feel the familiar heat of anger welling in his chest.
"You know what?" He demanded, turning around and marching over to the pair until he and Isaac were face to face. He lowered his voice, the cutting undertone of anger making his cheeks flush as he poked the boy in the chest with the bat. "I know you guys think that since you're all of a sudden all sexy and badass, that you scare me." He held up his hand, showcasing three fingers. "There are a total of three things in my life that scare me. One-" he put down a finger, "Katrin when she hasn't eaten anything for more than ten consecutive waking hours. Two-" he put down another finger, taking the liberty to shoot the pair a sarcastic grin. "My mother, and three: poisonous ladybugs. Nowhere on that list is cocky werewolves."
"You know, you could still join my pack, Sanchez." Derek drawled, walking closer as Ollie spun back around, unsure where to look. "It is tradition."
"What's tradition?"
"Having a Seer in a pack," he spoke as if the words were obvious, Ollie squinting slightly, pulling a confused face and making Derek roll his eyes. "Sanchez, what was your mom's name?"
"Fuck you."
"Seriously-" the man walked closer, his eyes dark and his tone threatening. "What was her name?"
Ollie continued to stare at Derek, feeling his grip tighten on his bat and his face grow hot. He couldn't stand people talking about his parents, it drove him absolutely insane. It felt almost... intrusive, hearing people speak of his parents as if they were just another memory swirling in the back of his head. As if they didn't mean anything.
So he marched up to Derek, his free hand curled into a face and his voice shaking. "Don't talk about her!" He yelled, tossing his bat to the side to avoid literally hitting Derek in the face with it. This reaction seemed to please Derek, as his lips curled into a smirk.
"Audrey, wasn't it? What was her last name?"
Ollie darted forward, shoving Derek back with both of his hands, sending the man stumbling backward, catching himself on Ollie's nightstand. Isaac and Erica didn't even hesitate, the boy grabbing Ollie's arms and holding them harshly behind his back, while the girl crossed to his front, patting his shoulder.
"Now, Ollie, no need to get so aggressive," she smiled, making the boy clench his jaw as he continued glowering at Derek. "He's just asking a question."
"Yeah? Well here's your answer-" he tried to move forward, trying his best not to wince at the pain in his arms. "I don't know. Or I don't remember."
That was actually true, he couldn't recall his mother being referred to anything other than Audrey Sanchez. She didn't go by her maiden name for anything, and to this day he wasn't sure if there was a reason behind that or not.
"Well, I know." Derek spoke matter-of-factly, walking closer to the boy. "It was Gonzalez, and I know for a fact that she's not exactly... popular around werewolves."
"Oh no, my mom didn't win werewolf prom queen, I'm gonna kill myself now."
Derek rolled his eyes, before turning and grabbing what appeared to be a shard of glass from the windowsill. Ollie's eyes widened, unsure how he didn't notice it before as the man walked over to him, showcasing the shard with a small smile. "Well, if you don't want to join my pack, I guess I can settle for... borrowing you every once and a while."
Ollie shot him a disapproving look, "Derek, kidnapping is illegal."
"Hold his chin."
Ollie thrashed his arms around as Erica held his chin between her fingers, angling his face upwards and making him grimace. "I don't have to tell you what I see."
"I know you don't... but you will."
And then a drop of poison fell on his lips, and a gray haze enveloped his vision.
