FORTY-TWO

November 7,  20XX - Friday

Where am I?

Right when I opened my eyes, I saw the demons above me.

Raising my head was difficult and I didn't know why.

I caught sight of my hair: stringy and wet.

I frowned, wondering how it got to that state.

I got my answer when a bucket of ice water pierced down my skin.

Inhaling sharply, I tried backing away from the water coming down, only to stumble back and catch sight of the rope that lead from my feet to a fallen beam laying in the middle of the wrecked up building.

"Won't be long 'til they make there way here."

I didn't even speak.

To be honest, I think I kind of forgot how.

My throat felt like it was on fire, yet my body felt icy.

Tears fell down from my eyes, but I wasn't crying.

I felt numb on the inside.

I'm so scared.

But what hurts the most, was knowing that Taehyung was somewhere out there aching.

He was out there blaming himself for this. I just knew it.

An echo reached us of a door busting down.

My eyes slowly trailed up from the concrete towards where everyone had turned.

There I was laying down in the center as more people rose from the shadows, guns drawn on each side of me as the three demons walled in front of me to create a barrier of what was coming.

I don't want this, I don't want this.

"Drop the weapons!!" He screeched as he stumbled into the room, a machine gun propped in his hands.

I could only recognize his voice for he was decked out in protective gear from head to toe, a bulletproof vest visible.

"What are you doing..." My voice came out faded, whispering his name, "...Taehyung."

"Brave of you to say that to us." The king stretched out his arms.

The men on the side took his signal to rise from their kneel to a full stand.

Taehyung's mouth parted as he waved around his gun left and right, taken a bit back.

Taehyung, don't.

Don't get your hands dirty, again.

He started firing like crazy,  actually hitting quite a few people.

I covered myself as I screamed for it all to stop.

Everything was all noise, hurting my ears.

Glass, metal, shots... just about everything was heard.

I tried to hold myself together, but it was hard.

"Shit!" One man in front of me fell, leaving me unguarded.

I looked and realized that more than half the men total had fallen to the floor.

I watched as multiple bullets flew in from the window.

Snipers.

"I'll be damned if I don't get her!" Taehyung shouted, his voice raw.

"CEASE FIRE."

The horned creature stepped forward.

"All this for her?  I just asked you for one thing, Taehyung."

All of  a sudden, more figures joined Taehyung's side.

"Fuck, you really got ahead of yourself."

The voice caused my heart to flip.

Namjoon.

He's alive.

He's okay.

Namjoon took off his helmet and threw it to the side.

"I have it!" Taehyung seethed as he made his way over.

Immediately being blocked from the men marching over to the man's side as well as Namjoon and Hoseok pulling Taehyung back.

Taehyung yanked away from them and reached into his pocket to fling out handfuls of cocaine.

"What the hell, man. That's thousands of dollars!" Namjoon scolded.

"All this over your stupid candy?!"

"You're on a worse drug than I'll ever be on." The man responded.

Taehyung laughed dryly before muttering something to Hoseok and Namjoon.

"Taehyung." Namjoon warned.

"All of it!" Taehyung screamed as he reached into his backpack and threw out bricks of cocaine.

Namjoon and Hoseok looked at each other before disposing of their backpacks, millions spilling.

"Make it double." the man ordered.

Taehyung's adam's apple bobbed before he stared into my eyes.

"Taehyung." Namjoon warned.

"Namjoon." Taehyung repeated, closing his eyes. "Get it all."

My eyes widened.

"Triple and we won't get the cops involved."

I stared at Taehyung.

How much trouble will he get for this?

This wasn't all his to give.

He could spend his whole life owing this debt.

All that we had saved, all that we had hoped was gone just like that.

Taehyung nodded his head.

"Taehyung." Namjoon tried to warn again.

"Namjoon." Taehyung replied, having Namjoon and Hoseok call orders for the men to bring in the loads from the cars.

The devil smiled before he reached for an ax, swinging it my way and cutting the rope.

Immediately, I tried to run into Taehyung's arms, open and ready to catch me.

He scooped me up, the others pointing guns until I was in his arms.

Spinning around, Taehyung carried me to the exit.

I shook uncontrollably in his arms.

We made it out the building and the second that we were safe across the street (our cars marking our territory), Taehyung stumbled to the floor, still holding me tightly.

His eyes squeezed shut as he gritted his teeth to prevent the sob from escaping,

but it did.

Staring at his face, I knew this was the moment

that the madness broke him.
