FORTY

November 5, 20XX - Wednesday
'Part I'

We couldn't head straight to Incheon after all.

The rain was pouring down so violently that we could hardly see out the car.

The car swerved, causing me to fly into Hoseok.

"Shit." Namjoon tried to regain control.

Hoseok placed his hands on my shoulders, looking at me before helping me upright again.

I ducked my head in apology.

"Gotta tell the others we need to stop for now. I need gas anyways."

He reached inside his jacket for his cell phone, getting a hold of the other cars:  one with Taehyung and five others containing drugs hidden in compartments. We had to spread out in different cars because if one got busted, the others still had a chance.

Taehyung [2:00pm]:
Hari, are you okay? I'll see you soon.
I know you're probably really anxious.

I read over his text message a couple of times before hugging the phone close to my chest.

I am very anxious.

Namjoon turned into the gas station, a couple of the cars taking open pumps and others parking in the mini-lot.

He set the car in park before turning over to me. "I know that you probably want to run out of the car and jump onto Taehyung, but that would be the wrong mistake to make. Someone is bound to notice you guys. So stay put."

I bit my lip and sunk back into my seat.

"Hoseok, watch her." Namjoon put on his hood before he stepped out of the car and met with the other drivers.

I tried to see if I could look out and see what car Taehyung was in, but it was too hard.  I could barely even make out Namjoon.

"Why are there so many cars anyway?" I asked Hoseok.

"They aren't just heading to Incheon for you two. They're going to stop by the main drug house."

My eyes widened.

"You're worried again, right? The reason why they're doing these two things together is because of the ultimate protection. Although...if the cops got hold of just you. You'd be better off," Hoseok whispered the last part almost to himself.

My brows knitted together as I stared at him.

"Hoseok..."

He turned to look at me.

"...I need to use the bathroom." I told him.

I caught him a bit off guard that he had to think about it before opening the car door.

"Alright, I need to make a phone call anyway."

Following after him, I made way to the side of the gas station.

I turned to look at the other cars along my way and spotted Taehyung talking to one of the drivers outside.

Almost like he felt me staring, he turned my. Then he sent daggers Hoseok's way.

Sorry. I mouthed.

He pulled out his phone and I knew he was trying to send me a message.

"Hari," Hoseok warned.

"I got it." I told him, half-annoyed. I continued walking to the bathroom.

"I'll be just a bit away on an important phone call." Hoseok points a few feet away.

I nodded and went to open the door. I struggled for a bit before I realized that it was locked.

I looked up and there was a huge sign on the door that I had missed.

SEE FRONT DESK FOR KEY

I turned towards Hoseok to let him know, but he was turned away, speaking lowly on a phone call.

It's just the bathroom, I should be fine.

Besides everyone is guarding the front anyways.

I rounded the corner and made my way inside to the front desk.

"Hi, I was wondering if I could have your key..." My voice trailed off because I realized that my missing poster along with Taehyung's wanted poster were hanging behind him.

The clerk looked at me bizarrely, almost about to follow my eye line to the posters but I quickly interrupted.

"Ah, it's urgent!"

He snagged the key off the wall and handed it my way. "Here you go."

I swallowed the nervousness away and took the key. I started to make my way back, feeling unsettled.

All of sudden, I saw someone familiar.

There was this guy among a group of guys that I recognized but couldn't clear up my memory to determine from where.

But if I recognize him, he might recognize me

Taking a step back, I attempted to leave the other direction.

However, the heel of my shoe got caught in the chip rack, grabbing it and pulling it down with me.

"What the hell?" One of them turned towards the noise.

I pushed the rack off of me and looked up into the eyes of the man I knew.

That's when I realized he was the one that chased Taehyung down.

"You're Taeho's boy...You killed him."

"Y-ou... turning...me in?" Taehyung managed to get out with a cough.

"No." The guy answered. "You're ours before the cops get you."

I inhaled sharply as he bent over me.

I thought there was a chance that he wouldn't recognize me, but his crooked smile told otherwise.

"Get her."
