FIFTY-FIVE

November 21, 20XX - Friday
'Airport pt. II'

"Attention."

Taehyung and I panted heavily as we ran across the airport.

"Please evacuate the building immediately."

Yoongi turned sharply, causing Taehyung and me to slip slightly in our attempt to keep up with him.

"Dangerous criminals have infiltrated airport grounds...."

The muscles in my legs burned, but I kept running---I had to keep running.

"...I repeat...Please exit the building immediately..."

Taehyung threw his head back as he cursed. "I knew we shouldn't have trusted him! Frickin' Coward! Fuck!"

My heart sunk.

Who would've guessed that Hoseok was a cop the whole time? Like an actual one.

How could he do that to Namjoon and the rest? Weren't they friends?

All of a sudden, Yoongi got violently tackled from the side, the mass of bodies throwing themselves at him.

Taehyung immediately halted in his tracks, yanking me behind the nearest vending machine.

Yoongi!

They got Yoongi!

I threw my hands over my mouth and Taehyung immediately started pulling me towards a door he had discovered.

Tripping inside, I fell onto the cold, hard ground.

The door shut behind us and one good look around told me we had landed in a bathroom, luggage left abandoned, reminding me that there once were people in this place.

What have we done?

Helping me up, Taehyung then yanked us into one of the stalls. Resting his forearm on the back of the door, he slowly locked it before letting his arm fall limp to his side.

My eyes follow his hand, realizing that it trembled.

I clutched onto my shirt, my chest rising and falling heavily as I tried to catch my breath.

Slowly turning around, I caught the pained expression on his face.

The tears coated his eyes and I had to look away because why was he looking at me like that?

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I stared at the ground, not wanting to think about what was going on in his head.

I heard Taehyung take a couple of steps closer, but I couldn't look up.

Having to tilt my chin up to look at him, he leaned in close enough to hover his lips over my own.

And despite all the chaos happening outside, he kissed me.

My cry hiccuped, this weird emotion burning inside of my chest.

Why did this feel like a goodbye?

Taehyung's lips moved slowly against mine as if wanting to remember exactly how they fit against his own.

Because I never forgot how his felt.

To have our tears fall down our faces... was so bitter---It was making the kiss so bitter.

Pulling away, his lips slid their way to attach themselves to my neck, burning his kisses against my skin.

I closed my eyes, letting more tears fall as he continued tattooing them all across my collarbone.

"You'll...always... be mine." His whisper against my skin caused me to shiver slightly.

"Taehyung," I said his name quietly, attempting to pull him back, but he fought to continue.

It was scary to think that I would never feel that good again.

But I've learned...

That all good things must come to an end.

Taehyung held onto my arms, picking up his head to stare into my eyes.

With a sad smile, he wiped away my tears with the back of his finger.

"I should surrender."

My insides twisted, a weak "No" escaping my lips.

"It's okay, Hari...I've thought enough about it."

I found it in my voice to be stronger, scolding him, "No, Taehyung."

It was no use.

He didn't listen.

"...you'll be safe. You'll have resources, they'll give them to you. If you tell them everything, they'll make sure you're safe," Lowering his voice, he continued, "He can't find you."

I started to get worked up, my chest heaving. "You don't know that!"

He shushed me, gently stroking my cheek with his thumb.

"It's okay, Hari."

No, it wasn't okay.

"I can't... " I tried to control my voice, "lose you, Taehyung."

Before he could say anything, the bathroom door hit the wall.

Taehyung instinctively covered me.

"Taehyung is that you?!" Namjoon's voice came out rushed.

Taehyung quickly went over and unlocked the stall door for him.

Namjoon entered, holding onto his knees as he leaned over to get a breather. "I'm glad I found you guys together. Fuck, we need to get out now."

Taehyung and I wasted no time following after Namjoon, his men kneeling as they created a border for us.

The emptiness of the airport caught my attention.

It was absolutely hard to stay hidden now.

"Taehyung!!" Hoseok's voice suddenly echoed through the airport from behind us.

Gunshots followed and Taehyung and I cowered slightly.

I looked back, curious to see make sure that Hoseok and whoever followed hadn't somehow passed our defense.

Taehyung tugged on my arm,  swiveling me around to continue running with him.

Namjoon turned into the departure lounge, leaping over a couple of seats to then head towards the gate.  Namjoon shouted orders, stating that we had to throw ourselves into the plane as he had men ready to pull down the aerobridge and his personal pilot ready to turn the plane around.

My heart pounded hard against my chest.

All I could hear after...was how hard I was breathing.

All of a sudden, I was falling to the ground, my hand slipping out of Taehyung's.

With a yelp, I felt the weight of someone on top of me.

Taehyung immediately jumped to my rescue.

Using all his weight, Taehyung threw the security guard off of me, grabbing him by his jacket.

I kicked myself as far back as I could as I watched the way Taehyung scuffled with him on the floor.

Taehyung lifted his fist to aim down at his face, but the security guard grabbed it, immediately striking Taehyung's inner elbow before twisting Taehyung to face down at the ground.

Namjoon ran back over to help Taehyung, reaching into his back pocket for something that wasn't there.

We both turned slightly to realize that his gun had fallen by the seats.

I turned back in horror at Namjoon, but Namjoon had been punched in the face.

My head was throbbing, I suddenly felt suffocated. The gun...was I going to have to touch the gun? I shakily got up and grabbed it into my hands.

What if nothing came out?

What if I hit someone else?

Taehyung crawled on all fours, spitting out a bit of blood before looking up to see it in my hands.

I know he hated it.

I know he never wanted me to touch one.

But as I saw the security guard slam his fist up Namjoon's jaw and make his way to Taehyung, I had no choice.

I fired.

I gasped loudly, my shoulders jumping.

The security guard screamed, immediately drawing his attention to his leg.

Gunshots were getting louder, indicating that security was pushing more our way.

Taehyung and Namjoon quickly got up, making their way to me (Taehyung swiping the gun away).

"Fuck guns." Namjoon dug into his backpack, pulling out a yellow stick.

Before I could ask what it was, he lit it up, revealing it to be a firework stick.

Holding it in front of him, the roman candle began firing at those who were headed our way.

I watched the red spark crash across the hall repeatedly, alarming those across as they screamed for cover.

"You idiot! We're not trying to make it to international news!" Taehyung shouted before pulling me towards the open gate.

Namjoon took out one final item, lighting it before throwing the ball from his hand.

Landing, I watched as it exploded with smoke.

"Hari!" Taehyung led me into the aerobridge.

As we ran forward, I couldn't help but focus on that light at the end of the tunnel.

We were going to make it.

We were going to be free.

The look on Taehyung's face told me he believed it too.

A gunshot echoed through, followed by a thud to the floor of the tunnel.

My blood ran cold as I turned around.

Namjoon's body lay on the floor, completely still.

Taehyung inhaled sharply before screaming, "No!"

"No!"  he repeated, tripping over his feet.

I came down with him.

Taehyung crawled over to Namjoon, rolling his body over to look at his face.

Namjoon scrunched up his face, already so pale as he removed his hand from his side.

The blood was oozing and I knew what that meant for him.

Taehyung teared up, shaking his head, "No! You're going to be okay! You're going to be okay!"

He angrily shot a glare at the one that fired Namjoon, strickin with anger passion.

"Taehyung," Namjoon coughed, chest heaving. "As long as I have done this much...I'm happy."

"Get him an ambulance! Help him! He didn't do as much as I did!" Taehyung screamed.

"As long as there was this chance...I'm happy." Namjoon whispered, his eyes slightly rolling back.

I covered my mouth with both my hands, in complete shock.

Taehyung kept shaking his head, leaning his forehead against Namjoon's as he cried out his name over and over.

Noise in front of us caused me to watch as an army of policemen stormed our way, the letters on their uniform reading: SWAT.

Their guns all pointed at us, surely ready to fire.

Hoseok and Jin emerged. "Stop!"

I frowned over at him, the tears sticking to my eyelashes.

"Stop!" Hoseok urged again. "Protect the girl!"

Because I was all you cared to protect, right Hoseok?

Taehyung held out a hand at me, telling me not to get up as he slowly started to rise, Namjoon carefully placed on the ground. "You left me with no choice."

"On the ground now!" Jin shouted at Taehyung, gun aiming his way. "Keep your hands where I can see them."

"I'm sorry, Hari." Taehyung whispered, "I'm sorry, I couldn't promise you forever."

I bit down hard on my lip, my heart already plummeted.

With tiny hope, I decided to plead with Jin and Hoseok, "Stop! Please sir! Please, Hoseok."

They head over with a couple of policemen, grabbing Taehyung and me, firmly separating us.

"Kim Taehyung, your under arrest for double homicide," Jin stated as he twisted Taehyung's hands behind his back.

"I'm sorry, Hari." Taehyung ducked his head down, tears falling.

I struggled to breathe, shaken that my worst nightmare was really happening.

"Stop this! He did it all for self-defense! He didn't kidnap me! He was taking me away from my father! And now...n-now..." My voice croaked.

Taehyung shook his head at me, mouth opening slightly.

"It's okay, Hari. Your father won't be coming for you."

I had started to shake my head...

"He won't hurt you anymore...Because..."

Jin firmly tightened the handcuffs around his wrist. "Kim Taehyung, you're under arrest for the murder of Kim Taeho..."

I continued to look at Taehyung, my eyebrows knitting.

But then he told me something that sent a shock through my system...

His eyelids fluttered slightly, tears rolling down his face, "Because...I killed him."

My heart stopped.

Jin thrust Taehyung forward, confirming what I feared was the truth, "... and the murder of Moon Honggi."

My face fell.

I didn't know what to think.

Taehyung had killed my father.

That meant I no longer had him coming for me.

I no longer had that fear.

I had lost my danger.

"Let's go, Hari." Hoseok quietly pushed me forward.

But I also no longer had Taehyung.

I no longer had someone to protect me.

I no longer had that care.

I had lost my safety.

Taehyung and I were locked eye to eye as we walked alongside each other, eventually being taken separate ways.

And as I watched Taehyung get hauled away from me,

I forgave him.

I forgave him...

Because he killed someone for me.

For us.
