"Taaliya! I can't do it anymore. Whether you like it or not, I'm leaving. You're not stopping me." I yelled."You're not leaving with out me. I'm not letting my best friend run away alone." She shouted back. I looked down at my shoes, thank god we were home alone. My siblings would be telling my parents by now.
"Fine. I'll go pack my stuff. Meet me outside on," I paused."Under our tree at midnight." I said as I climbed the stairs."Gotcha. See ya." She said as she closed the door behind her. I packed all my clothes that I needed. But left some so my parents wouldn't get suspicious. After about and hour, the rest of my family was home.
"Angel! Where are you?" My mom asked as she walked in the door. We've been fighting for years, it's going to end tonight. She could care less if I was gone.
I quickly hid my bag under my bed and walked out."Coming." I yelled down the stairs.
I helped them unpack their groceries and then sat at the table."How was school?" My dad asked."Same old, Same old. Learning trigonometry." I mumbled as I grabbed my Cashews."Nathan? How was school?" They asked my twin brother."Same as Angel's. Uneventful."
He noticed there was something wrong with me, he eyed me up and down. Our mom started cooking dinner,we went up stairs. Walking into the bathroom, I pulled my brown hair into a high pony tail. A knock was heard at the door."Hey, can we talk?" Nathan asked. Our screaming younger brother, Chance, ran past with the youngest, Ben, running after him. Nathan's the oldest, I'm behind him. Then it goes on with them Blah Blah blah.
"Yeah sure." I said as I looked at him."What are you planning to do?" He asked. I furrowed my eyebrows."What do you mean?" I questioned."Where are you running away to?" He pressed."Nathan, I don't know what your talking about." I shrugged.
"Quit, I'm your twin. When you're planning something you have that look on your face. You're lucky our parents haven't caught on to it." He said."Fine-" I started but cut my self off. I pulled him to my room and shut the door."California, at midnight. You in?" I asked."I'm in. I'm tired of this life, Dad's always complaining how I'm not good enough for any girl." He ranted."Just wait for me outside, I'll lead you to where we're meeting up." I said."We're?" He asked.
"Taaliya and I." I said. He nodded."Dinner!" our mom called from down stairs. We both ran down the stairs."No fair you guys have longer legs." Ben said from the top of the stairs. We shrugged and walked to the kitchen, where we were met with the scent of chicken tacos. A tradition in our family when something is going to be announced."What's the occasion?" I asked. Our parents looked at each other."Sit down and we'll tell." They said. We dished up our tacos, I made a salad kinda thingy, with Doritos. You smash Doritos then put the chicken on, or beef, and then add sour cream on the top with some cheese. Literally heaven.
Nathan did the same, weird thing between us. I mixed it together and started eating."Wait for the family Angel." My mother scolded. I internally rolled my eyes and set my fork down. Once everyone sat down at the table, we were allowed to eat.
"We have something to tell you guys." Our dad said. He looked at Mom."We're getting a divorce." They said in unison. I froze in shock. Technically, this wouldn't effect me since I'm leaving, but it hit me like a ton of bricks."Please tell me your joking." Nathan said."We're not joking." Mom said."I just, need to think about this. I'll be in my room." I said as I grabbed my bowl."I'll be with her. Don't worry." Nathan said and followed. Ah, twins. Always a best friend when you need them.
We walked to my room in silence while our parents helped the younger ones understand."I can't believe this." I said as I sat down on my bed."Me either." He said, following. I munched on my taco salad."Do I just climb out my window?" He whispered."Yep."I answered. My phone went off beside me."And leave your phone here, so they can't track you." I said as I grabbed my phone.
T🌹:So plan.
Me: Nathan's going.
T🌹: K. Meet at our tree, then leave. Right.
Me: Yup. See ya:)
I closed my phone and set it down on my dresser."Should we leave letters?" I asked."I guess." He said. I set my now empty bowl on my dresser and pulled out paper from the drawer. Handing a piece to Nathan, I also pulled out pens. We both wrote on binders I found,
Dear family,
I just couldn't do it anymore. Mom and I were fighting, and it took a toll on me. Im sorry we left. We really need this though.
Depending on who you are, read your section.
Dear Chance,
I hope you grow up to be the greatest young man. I love you. Remember when I taught you how go ride your bike? I loved that. I wish I could take you with, but mom needs a man around the house after we leave. Take care of Ben please! Don't forget us<3 I'll miss you.
Dear Ben,
I know you can't read yet, but have Chance or somebody else read this to you please. I love you. One of my favorite times together was when you were born, mom let me hold you last, but you were still very excited to see me. Another moment of our is when you were sick and I took care of you. I'll miss you:)
Dear Dad,
I know we weren't that close. But you were there for me. Thank you. I remember when I was learning how to ride a bike, and you helped me when I got hurt. Even though Nathan was all in your face asking if I was okay. I sorry about you and mom. You didn't make us do this:) I'll always love you.
Dear Mom,
Where do I start? We aren't close and we never will be. Have fun with your life. I'll love you forever even though we fought 24/7.
I finally finished after 15 minutes. Nathan laid his on my dresser and grabbed our bowls."Can I read yours later?" He asked. I nodded. He walked out of the room and down the stairs.
I grabbed some clothes from my dresser and headed towards the shower. Not before hiding our letters so they wouldn't find them.
After my shower, I found Nathan on my bed, reading a book."Hey." I said as I looked at the time. 10:50."2 hours to go."He said. I nodded."Did you pack yet?" I asked."Yep. I packed light. A bunch of money I've been saving up for years." He said."Me too." I said as I plopped down beside him. We sat there, staring at the ceiling."Do you think our lives are going to be better away from here?" He asked."Definitely."I said. He nodded and shifted. We laid there talking and going through what we need one last time. We were ready to go.
"Lights out!" Mom yelled from the hallway. I got up and shut off my light. Nathan walked out before nodding, making sure we were doing it. I laid down in my bed and acted like I was trying to sleep. Soon enough, after our mom checked to see if we were asleep, our plan was a go.
I stared at the clock for hours, until it hit 12. I quickly grabbed my bag and set the notes on my dresser."Goodbye old house. Hello new life."
