Chapter 6
When we got close to the sanctuary we were suddenly surrounded by a very familiar group of dragons. I smirked getting up and then jumping off of Toothless. Hiccup looked shocked and was going to dive for me when I landed safely on a green nadder that had slight hues of pink, who was growling at the gronckles holding Stormfly. His name is Galewind and if you couldn't guess yet he's Stormfly's mate. Inside the sanctuary I'm sure Hookfang's mate is watching over their children along with Meatlug's mate. I laughed at his reaction as Galewind and I flew closer to Stormfly.
"Hookfang, Meatlug, Galewind, Barf and Belch, Iggy, Sharpshot, Pain, Head and Butt. It's good to see you how is everything inside the sanctuary?" I chirped at them similar to Stormfly would.
"Good now that you're back." Hookfang huffed.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Stormfly inquired cocking her head to the side.
"V-" Meatlug started but I glared at her motioning towards Hiccup lightly without him noticing. "Uhh.. Dragon Healers cooking. You made it back in time to cook dinner yourself." She looks at Hiccup cautiously. I smirked at Hiccup as he gave me a cautious glare.
"Why don't we show our guests inside? Hookfang, Barf and Belch, Galewind would you do the honors?" they smirked back at me as Galewind snatched up Hiccup and the other two carried Toothless we flew them inside as Meatlug helped Galbar and Percina (the gronckles holding the net carrying Stormfly).
"ASTRID!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!?? PUT ME BACK ON TOOTHLESS!!!" Hiccup growled at me I just laughed before grabbing on to a broken chain still on Galewind's horns on the back of his head and dangled down in front of Hiccup pretending to think.
"How about...? No!" I laughed lightly punching his shoulder before jumping back up onto Galewind's back, "Remind me to remove this chain later okay?" Galewind nodded and continued flying. We soon reached a large, dark cavern filled with dragons we dropped Hiccup and Toothless off there and then we took off to the center of the sanctuary where I found Stormfly already in the infirmary and started tending to her wounds as I saw Valka head in the direction of Hiccup hoping all would go well.
Hiccup's POV
Astrid just dropped us in this large cavern. We were surrounded by dragons. "Hey bud remind me to get back at Astrid for this okay?" He just nodded while growling at the dragons around us. I used Inferno (A/N: His sword in the second movie) to calm the dragons down when a masked figure clad in armor came towards us. They did something with there hand making Toothless fall over and happily lay unconscious. "Uhh.. Are you the Dragon Thief?" No response, "Dragon Healer?" I still got no response I backed up slightly as they lifted their hand towards my face before I heard a gasp as the figure backed up.
"Hiccup?" They removed their mask revealing an older woman maybe around my dad and Gobbers age, "Could-could it be? After all these years? How is this possible?"
"Uh, should I... should I know you?" I asked completely confused.
"No. You were only a babe." She answered as I stared at her, "But a mother never forgets." I gasped as she turned to run off, "Come" I followed after her. Who knew she could run that fast? I was struggling to keep up while running after her Toothless close behind.
"Hold on! Wait just a minute!" I called out to her.
"This way." she responded. I kept calling out to her as she only told to follow her.
"You can't just say something like that and run off! You're my MOTHER?! I mean, what the -- do you grasp how INSANE it sounds?!" I asked her.
"Come. Quickly!" is all she responded
"I have questions! Where have you been all this time? What've you been doing?! They said you were dead! Everyone thinks you were eaten by..." I trailed off as I came through an opening. "...dragons." I saw hordes of dragons of various species flying around. I stared in awe for a little before looking up to see my Mom on a dragon hanging on the roof of the cave. "This is where you've been for twenty years?" she nodded. "You've been rescuing them." she nods again but this time was smiling. "Unbelievable."
"You're not upset?" she asked me.
"What? No. I don't know. It's a bit much to get my head around, to be frank. It's not every day you find out your mother is some kind of crazy, feral, vigilante dragon lady."
"At least I'm not boring... right?"
"I suppose there is that... one... specific... thing..." I told her as she came down towards me.
"Do you like it?" she asked me
"I don't have the words." I watch as Toothless gets surrounded by curious dragons who playfully approach and sniff at him which he scares them off frustrated.
"Can I...?" I nod, "He's beautiful! Incredible! Oh look, he's your age! No wonder you get along so well. And retractable teeth! Ah! How did you manage to--"
"I found him in the woods. He was shot down and wounded." I told her.
"This Snafflefang lost his leg to an iron trap. This Raincutter had her wing sliced by razor netting. And this poor Hobblegrunt was blinded by a tree snare... then left to die alone and scared. And what of this? Did trappers do this too?"
I awkwardly laughed, "Heh. Well, crazy thing is... I'm actually the one who shot him down." She looked at me shocked but curious as I continued, "It's okay though, he got me back. Right, bud? You couldn't save all of me, could you? You just had to make it even. So... peg leg!"
"I heard your father doesn't know about your Night Fury friend, and I presume he doesn't know about the leg either then?" she asked me.
"No he doesn't.. Did Astrid tell you that?" she nodded.
"You know, it broke my heart to stay away, but I believed you'd be safer if I did. And yet after all this time you seem to have taken after me."
"What happened that night? When you left?" I asked her curious.
She sighed before speaking, "Berk being a land of kill or be killed I tried my best to stop all the fighting because I believed peace was possible. Which was a very unpopular opinion. One night a dragon broke into our house, finding you in the cradle. I rushed to protect you, but what I saw... was proof of everything I believed. This wasn't a vicious beast, but an intelligent, gentle creature, whose soul reflected my own. The dragon looked at me when suddenly your father threw an axe between me and Cloudjumper. He told me to run when Cloudjumper fired at him. I begged him to stop when I was suddenly carried off away from you, your father, and the rest of Berk. You and your father nearly died that night, and all because I couldn't kill a dragon."
"Well I guess it runs in the family. But, how did you survive?" I asked after she finished.
"Oh, Cloudjumper never meant to harm me. He must've thought I belonged here... In the home of the great Bewilderbeast! The Alpha species. One of very few that still exist. Every nest has its queen, but this is the king of all dragons." she showed me the center of the nest, where an immense, white dragon is asleep in a pool of water. Smaller dragons fly by and respectfully bow before the creature. As I watched it all I saw a figure by the king... it was Astrid.
