Chapter 11
Astrid's POV
It's been a few days but the sanctuary is finally empty. I was sitting on a ledge that looked out over the whole nest that was now bare our last group already on their way to the Edge, as Hiccup calls it, I watched as the king finally left taking one last look wanting to be the last dragon to leave their home. Getting up I backed away slowly as a couple tears escaped, hastily wiping them away I turned only to bump into something. Only that something was a Hiccup. "Woah, Sorry Hiccup." I stepped back.
"It's okay, uh come on, Mom said that the alpha is ready to leave."
"Oh yes of course come on lets go!" I grabbed his arm and started dragging him over to the exit only to be pulled back, "Hiccup?"
"Astrid, what's going on? Are you okay?" his whole frame showed concern, looking into his eyes I wanted to give in. 'No Astrid don't do it! You have to be strong!' .
"Yes, of course, I'm fine, what makes you think I wouldn't be?" I scoffed, but I don't think it was convincing enough for him.
"Milady, Astrid, please.. What's wrong?" I could feel his concern as my walls slowly crumbled, turning away from his gaze I found interest in my boots, another tear getting loose and almost comforting as it crept down to my chin before falling to the ground. "Astrid.." I felt his grip on my arm loosen as it moved to my back his other hand joining it as he pulled me close in a hug I didn't want but needed nonetheless. My arms betraying me as they held onto him.
"I don't want to go.. I wish.." my voice a shaky whisper as more tears slipped, "I wish we didn't have to leave." 'I wish you didn't have to see me like this'.
"I'm sorry Astrid." his voice came right beside my ear, making a shiver run down my spine, "Come on let's get outside, shall we?" I nodded slowly leaving from his grasp, my hands clearing away the last of my tears as quickly as I could wanting this moment to be over, I walked ahead exiting the sanctuary and mounting Galewind, who came back with me so that Stormfly could rest with the other dragon mothers and so that she can watch her own children. "Astrid!" I turned glancing at Valka's son, "You're sure you're okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine." and with that we took off glancing at the ocean every now and then to make sure the alpha was following us.
Hiccup's POV
I glanced at Astrid every now and then, her breakdown back at the sanctuary worried me and I wanted to comfort her so badly but.. How does one comfort Fearless Astrid Hofferson? One of the fiercest female warriors berk has ever seen! To see her crying... Hurts.
Looking away before she could notice my staring I saw the Edge up ahead along with Valka heading towards the ocean where I suspect their bewilderbeast is. Toothless and I flew ahead of Astrid and Galewind towards the clubhouse where I could already see some of my friends. Landing on the platform, Toothless headed inside as Astrid landed beside me. "Hiccup! Brother! Welcome home!" Dagur the Deranged came out from the clubhouse tackling me in a bone crushing hug as usual. "Oh and who might this be!" he turned to Astrid who had her mask on 'When did she put it on though?' .
"This is-" As I was about to say her name an angry yell came from behind Dagur.
"Astrid Hofferson!" turning to look at the person I found Dagur's sister Heather her battleaxe at the ready.
"Heather." looking back at Astrid I noticed she had her ax in hand, both girls ready to fight. Just as they were about to charge I ran in between them my eyes closed fearing the worst might happen to me.
"Wait!" laughter. I heard laughter and not from Dagur, no it was the two girls.
"Oh My Thor!!" I looked up to see Astrid and Heather leaning against each other as they laughed.
"He actually fell for it!" Heather nearly collapsed on the ground as she clutched onto her stomach.
"Wait! You two know each other?" I asked them confused.
"Of course they do brother! Astrid was at Mala and I's wedding remember!" Dagur exclaimed loudly as he clapped his hand on my shoulder.
"What? Seriously!?" I looked at Astrid for confirmation as she nodded with a smile, "How did I not notice you?"
"There's quite a few things one could miss when they're focused on something else Hiccup it's not really surprising." Eret son of Eret came out from the clubhouse his azure blue changewing, Thistlethorn next to him. I noticed Astrid's blue eyes glare at the former hunter.
"Eret."
"Dragon warrior."
