Chapter 4

When Sophie got back to the cottage it was already around 7pm, meaning she had been with Luke for 5 hours. She had run full speed to the cottage because she was out for so long and was worried about the boys, meaning she got there swiftly in 20-25 minutes. Yeah, she was fast. When she got there the boys were in the living room and Alex was asleep on Adrien's shoulder with his signature plush in his arms, snoring lightly. While Adrien was awake, but struggling to stay awake. When she walked through the door Adrien shot up and luckily they were on the couch so Alex didn't hit his head only fell back. Adrien ran towards her and hugged her knees. Sophie smiled sheepishly and knelt down and hugged the five-year-old.

"Where were you, Mama? I was worried, you're never out that long." Adrien said sniffling and she now realized he was crying. Sophie had a look of regret written on her face and hugged him tired while also letting a few tears fall down her face. She started to say sorry repeatedly slowly she broke into sobs. Adrien didn't know why and honestly? She didn't either, maybe it was all the pent-up stress, pain, and well everything over the years. Life hadn't given her a break once ever since she had left her kingdom, but that doesn't mean she regrets it. Oh god no, she doesn't, now oh now she understands, seen and has been through the hardships of a peasant and god was it hard. While aa a princess she was spoiled and always kept in the dark about how the real world worked. But now she knows what's happening and detests the royals for not caring or doing anything about it.

Alex had by now woken up and came over to calm their sobbing mother down. Sophie clung to both of them like a lifeline. Sophie's sobs soon turned to sniffles as she leaned back and stared at her two boys. She smiled softly at the two. "Are you ok, mama?" Sweet little Alex asked, he was so little and innocent, always cared for others, and was so soft-spoken. While Adrien was tough and very protective. He never hesitated in attacking someone who insulted, injured, or got too close with someone he cared about.

"I'm fine Alex, Mama was just thinking about some past memories, nothing to worry about." She said as she started to get up. "Have you guys eaten yet?" When they both shook their heads Sophie hummed and started to cook some food. After eating they all went to bed, Alex had somehow crawled his way into Sophie's bed, and soon after so did Adrien, who didn't want to be left out.

~Flashback~

A small five-year-old girl was sitting in a tree house, she had short honey blonde hair and bright brown eyes. She was wearing a light red dress that cut off at her knees and fell off her shoulders slightly. She was holding a bright blue stuffed elephant toy that had a green Hawaiian skirt. Suddenly she heard yelling from below but ignored it. Then a girl in a teal dress with cobalt blue eyes and brown hair popped into her face. The girl giggled at the blonde's surprised face and leaned back while sticking her hand out. "HI!! My name's Bianna, what's yours?" The girl, Bianna asked. The blonde softly shook her hand while mumbling out her name.

"Sophie."

"Well, it's nice to meet you! Do you want to play base quest with me and brother and his friend?" Before Sophie could reply Bianna had already grabbed her hand and pulled her down the tree. Sophie ended up playing the game and it was actually really fun. The two boys who also played names were Fitz and Keefe. They played for a while and Sophie and Biana became immediate best friends. Later on, they were all called inside for lunch and Sophie met the Vacker parents, King Alden and Queen Della of Everglem. They had a nice dinner when two messy-looking boys came in, one had wavy dark hair and electric blue eyes, while the other looked to be related to Fitz and Biana. He had dark brown hair and cobalt blue eyes, his jerkin was a little ruffled and so was his pants, and his hair was played in messy curls that fit his face perfectly.

They both gave sheepish grins on their faces as they apologized for being late and sat down. Sophie mostly ignored the two boys. After lunch Grady, her father, lead her to a room and told her to stay there and wait for someone who was going to come in, he said it was very important that she met him. A while later while she sat down in a chair swinging her legs and blowing hair out of her face. She heard yelling from the hallway and couldn't help but listen.

"DAD!! SHE"S FIVE!!!"

"Royals marry people far older than each other all the time Alvar."

"Yeah!! But Dad!!-"

"No Alvar! You will become king when you are 25 then marry her joining our two kingdoms together when she is 16, end of discussion!!" And with that Sophie heard a groan and one of the people walk away, before she knew it the boy from lunch walked in with an annoyed expression. She looked at him as his eyes lazily cast over the room and then finally landed on her. When they made eye contact his eyes widen in shock.

He hadn't really noticed her during lunch, but now getting a better look at his, now fiancé, he couldn't help but think of what she would look like when she was older. Long soft honey blonde hair, bright innocent brown eyes with golden flecks in them which her red dress would bring out, and soft tan skin. He had to admit, he knew she would look beautiful in the years to come. He blushed slightly (ew) and shook his head harshly 'THIS IS A FIVE-YEAR-OLD!!!' he yelled at himself in his head, although the blush never left his face.

He walked over to Sophie and knelt down so that they were face to face. He had a soft look on his face and a small smile. But Sophie could see something in his eyes, something dark and cruel, it sent shivers down her spine and she knew she didn't like him. She was smart for her age and already knew from the bits of the conversation she heard that she was going to marry this man. (for anyone wondering he's 19 at this point in time) So for the sake of her parents and everyone she would give this man a try, even though he gave her the creeps.

"Hi, my name's Alvar." He said softly, taking her hand and giving it a light kiss.

~Flashback end~

Sophie shot up in bed with a cold sweat, oh it had been so long since she had a flashback, especially of him, it scared her shitless. Just the thought of him sent shivers down her spine and made her freeze in fear. She looked out the window and remembered the events of the day before. She sighed and laid back down, choosing to cuddle with her two sons rather than get up and do her routine.

She laid there for about ten minutes, she could tell from the sky that it was about 9:30am when she heard intense knocking at the door. The boys woke up at the noise and looked confused. Sophie softly put her finger to her lips as a sign for them to be quiet. She mouthed stay here and got up to answer the door. She softly and slowly opened the door to find a fancy-looking boy and women and a bunch of guards with a few dogs. Clearly, they had used the dogs to track her somehow. The girl had blonde hair with little braids in it and some cute robes on, with ice blue eyes. The boy had periwinkle blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. They both looked around her age and as soon as the door opened the boy's face brightened. The girl still looked bored though.

"Hello, my apologies for bothering you at such an early hour. My name is Dexter Diznee, first born prince of Rimeshire, but you can call me Dex. This is Marella Reddek the kingdom's fire warlock. Can we come in?" He asked and I nodded moving over a bit. Marella and Dex walked in while the other stayed outside. She lead them to the couch as she asked if they wanted anything, they just asked for tea and she left to make it. She listened in on their conversation as she made the tea.

"Your brother didn't mention she was so young."

"He doesn't mention many things, Marella."

"Ok buts what's up with her living all alone, and all the way out here? Seriously that's really suspicious."

"You know it's not a crime for someone to live all the way out here and at her age, plenty of people mature and live alone at young ages."

They were cut off by Sophie walking back in with the cups. She handed them each one and sat down across from them. They smiled and thanked her, taking a sip before Dex started to talk. "So are you Maxine Shikari?" he asked and she nodded. He continued, " So I assume you heard about the notice out for you? Yeah, sorry if that scared you, you're not in trouble. My dad isn't very good at phrasing things sorry. You see my dad is just interested in hiring you for a job and would like you to meet him for brunch today to discuss it." Dex had a smile and friendly aura but Sophie knew he wasn't asking, meaning she had to go to the castle with them to talk. She sighed slightly and smiled with a nod.

"Of course, let me ju-" Sophie was cut off by small feet padding against the hallway floor. Sophie paled and all their heads snapped toward the hallway where the two young boys stood. Adrien was huffing and had an annoyed look on his face while Alex still looked sleepy and was holding his toy. Spirit and Anala were standing next to the boys, Anala doing a cute little griffin yawn and Spirit trying to catch his tail. Alex ignored the people and walked over, climbing into Sophie's lap and cuddling up to her while mumbling.

"Mama, tired. Come back to bed." Marella cooed at the cuteness, clearly already picking her favorite of the twins. Adrien walked up to Dex who was still stunned and was thinking the important question 's-she's a mom!?!?'. Adrien huffed again and Sophie realized a moment too late what he was going to do.

Adrien kicked Dex.

Adrien kicked the prince!

"No, taking mama away!!" Adrien yelled afterward causing Marella to stifle a giggle and Dex to groan in annoyance, at Marella, not Adrien. He found Adrien's protective nature cute actually. He wasn't really affected by the kick though.

"Adrien! No kicking people!" Sophie yelled, scared. Adrien was about to say something but Dex spoke up.

"It's alright, I didn't know you had kids. If you want you can take them with you." Dex said with a bright smile. Sophie brightened at that and she quickly said something and walked off to get her and the boys dressed. She put on what she had worn the day before and dressed the boys in their nicest clothes. She didn't like royals but she had to act like she did.

They left with the prince and warlock not knowing that one decision to leave with them would change their lives forever. And not in a good way.

If only she hadn't been nice to that child in the black market that day.
