Chapter 1
A girl can be seen walking around a small town in the lively kingdom of Rimeshire. Even though it was the middle of the day the town seemed dark and mysterious. Shacks and shady people with cloaks were everywhere. Some looked tough while others looked skinny and frail. Some looked both at once, but this girl, unlike all the people there, looked gentle and like a child, although everyone knew better than to say anything about it. She was wearing tan knee-high shorts, showing off some scars and animal bite marks on the lower part of her legs. She had a large baggy t-shirt and a duffle bag over her shoulder. Her honey blonde hair with dark blues and purples went through it and her hair was pulled up into a lazy messy bun with stray hairs on her face. Aside from that she was about 5'4 and appeared to be about 14 years old. She had a black fox mask on with no mouth and it didn't allow anyone to even see her eye color. All it allowed to be seen was her soft pink lips and chin. It had dark blues and purple designs all over it along with some gold.
Everyone made way for her, not daring to get in her way or make eye contact. After all, she was the most feared and admired thief, drug dealer, smuggler, and murderer around, The Satoru Fox. Everyone knows her story, no one knows her identity or how she became how or who she is now but they know better than to cross her. She doesn't take kindly to people fooling or using her. No one has survived her wrath and those who witnessed it were only left alive because she wanted them to, not to mention they were traumatized from it. They couldn't see it but she always hid her signature twin daggers with her.
As she was walking a child, a boy she observed, fell onto the ground in front of her. He had periwinkle blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. He looked around 9 years old ish and was wearing a normal villagers' clothing. Satoru tilted her head to the side a bit, what was a child doing in the kingdom's black market? She knelt down and was reaching her hand out until a woman ran over. The woman knelt down with tears in her eyes, hands, knees, and feet on the ground with her head laid on her hands. "Please, Master Satoru, please don't hurt him!! He's just a child! He didn't mean to get in your way!! Please!!" The woman practically screamed through tears, Satoru rolled her eyes behind the mask and continued what she was doing.
The child was scared she observed, he clearly didn't know who she was but by the way, everyone was scared and shaking he knew she was someone he should fear for his life in front of, especially with the situation he was in. He closed his eyes thinking she was going to strike him, but instead he felt soft hands go under his arms and lift him up as he heard gasps of shock. he opened his eyes to find the lady with the beautiful mask dusting his shirt off of all the dirt and dust it collected. "Are you ok?" she asked with a raspy and dry voice, but at the same time, it seemed soft and gentle almost ...... sweet. He just nodded at her too dazed by shock to answer.
She stood up and picked him up placing him onto her hip, shocking everyone even further. Murmurs and rumors started being passed around and said, but mainly surrounding one individually. The Satoru Fox had a soft spot for kids?
She just ignored them and walked over to the woman who was still groveling on the ground, although she was now looking up. She quickly cast her eyes down as Satoru's shadow cast over her and the woman's former gentle aura became harsh and demanding again. "Get up." She said harshly with no emotion or expression under her mask, not even a twitch of her mouth was seen. The woman quickly stood up still not daring to look Satoru in the eye. The woman could feel Satoru's cold glare through her mask. Satoru gently handed the boy over the woman grabbed him quickly not wanting to upset the other. " You should know better than to bring a child to the black market, moron," Satoru said harshly before giving the boy a small smile and saying "Have a good day, little one" and with that, she left.
Soon later Satoru appeared in front of a run-down shack. The wood of the walls and roof were old and chipping, the door was weak and practically off its hinges. The inside on the other hand was well kept and flashy. You could tell that it belonged to a very well-selling person here. All that can be seen though were curtains and soft cushions, along with a small table in the middle and another small reception-like desk placed in the corner with a back door behind it.
As she walked in a boy with messy brown hair walked out of the back room. As soon as he saw her he sighed and waved her in as he walked back into the attached room. He came back out with an old man, they were each carrying two heavy cases. Satoru smiled at the two and put her bag down as she shuffled through it to grab a big stack of cash. She gave it to them and they handed over the cases, she opened each to look inside. The first one had food and rations to last at the least a month. The second one held clothes, extended to a child's size toward a teen or adult, as well as hygiene things like soap and toothpaste. The third held medicine and ointments. And finally the last held drugs, weapons, and alcohol. Her smile widened as she fished out purple lace gloves with intricate designs.
She put them on and put her left hand over the now closed boxes. Suddenly her hands started to glow a light purple color and then the cases shrunk. She took the gloves off and put them along with the now small cases in her bag. Everyone in the world is born with power, most people don't use their powers because they can't control them or are not interested in them. Others can control them and those who can't but still want to use them purchase gloves like these that help. Satoru had stolen these gloves in her earlier years and when she put them on she found out about her abilities, unfortunately, she believed the gloves were the source of the abilities because people having powers wasn't really a common fact, it was mostly an unknown ancient fact and people believed unless you have the gloves that only royals have these abilities.
Before she left the old man stopped her. "You know, kid, it's not too late for you. You can still start anew, you clearly have enough money to start a life, all you have to do is get rid of anything that indicates you are the Satoru Fox and move to a town, says you're an orphan and travel around. You shouldn't condemn yourself to a life as horrible as this, especially at such a young age." He said with a sad but hopeful smile on his face. He tried to talk her out of this life every time she came for her monthly reload of resources. He had soft spot for her and even though she doesn't show it. he knew his trying and his caring meant a lot to her and she cared for him and his grandson as well.
Satoru just shook her head with her rare real smile and laugh. "Sorry, old man, no can do. This is my life and I'm fine with it. Have a good one, until next month." And with that, she walked out.
~2 hours later~
Satoru was walking in the forest, after she left that man's home she made her way out of the town, then the kingdom. She lived in the unowned land between the kingdom of Rimeshire and Alluveterre. She kept walking and came across a small cottage, her home. She opened the door and was tackled by two people. She instinctively tensed but then relaxed when she saw who they were. She laughed softly and said, "Guys get off of me" she only got small winey 'nooo''s in response. She rolled her eyes and said " Off or no muffins tonight" the next second she felt the weight lifting off her chest.
From the ground she looked at two cute boys, they were twins and had brown hair and cobalt eyes. Their names were Adrien and Alex, or as she jokingly called them, brat 1 and brat 2. When she was 9 she had come across a crashed royal carriage and there she found these two boys when they were babies. She knew the search team wouldn't be back for a couple of hours, or a day or two. God dare she say it might have actually been a few weeks, and she couldn't leave them there, so she took them in. Even if they survived the starvation or brought them back to the nearest kingdom she couldn't let them live the life of a spoiled royal, forever naïve to the problems and troubles of the citizens. She raised them even though it was hard and she was only 9. She trained them in all the fighting styles she had learned over the years and how to fight with weapons.
Satoru got up and walked over to the kitchen, she took out the cases and her gloves. She turned the cases and what was inside back to their original size. She had the boys unpack and put away everything as she went to change, for 5-year-olds they were very helpful and kind. She walked to her room and took off her shoes leaving her feet bare as she changed her pants to some soft black sweatpants and her shirt to a different oversized t-shirt but this time it was blue. She took her hair out and combed it with her old brush. Finally, she took off her mask, to reveal two soft bright brown eyes, completing her beautiful features. She delicately reached into her shirt and pulled out an old silver necklace, with a swan pendant.
The boys barged into her room with smiles on their cute little faces,
"We finished unpacking, Sophie"
