(y/n) - your name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Billy breathes out as he mindlessly rubbed (y/n)'s back, her resting on top of his chest as they lay on the couch. He smiled, looking down at her as she curled into him and held him tightly, nuzzling her nose against his chest. It was moments like this that he missed and hoped to have together in his childhood home but the inkling feeling of (y/n) not having her memories really worried him. This wasn't the usual forgetfulness she normally has, this was long-term.

Billy looks down at (Y/n) clutching his mother's necklace with everything she had like she was afraid someone would take it away from her, slowly sitting them both up. She whines softly as he rubbed her arm and her hand, her grip on the necklace loosening so he could take it. He was beyond thankful that his love cherished the single thing he owned from his mother, leaning her back carefully so she could put the necklace on her. It looked so much nicer on her neck than in her hands.

"Billy..." (y/n) mumbles out sleepily as she moved her head to lay against his neck, her arms around his shoulders and he pulls her closer. She was never this clingy, never this touch starved before but he didn't mind. Usually, he was the one to always be touching her but now it seems the roles were reversed. Billy laid back against the couch again, letting (y/n) sleep and he kisses her head tenderly. He really did miss holding her again.

"Princess?" Billy muses, hearing a soft hum as (y/n) slowly wakes up. "Morning darling." He chuckles softly at the soft whine of annoyance, glad that her hatred for waking up early was still a familiar trait. "Come on (y/n). You need to eat something again." He pulls her off his lap and she wakes up, an annoyed frown on her face that her source of warmth was gone.

Billy chuckles as she wraps herself in a blanket, muttering about how it was too early. He was really glad some things hasn't changed. Billy went to freshen up, hearing (y/n) following him to do the same in her bedroom where there were spare toothbrushes and paste. While he took a shower, (y/n) roamed around the house in fascination while brushing her teeth. The house was big, bigger than... she knew it was bigger than what she used to live in. It was very spacious and had a beachy Californian vibe to it with the white walls and marble countertops.

Damn... how much did this house cost?

(y/n) explored the house as much as she could before going to her bathroom to rinse and wash her face. As soon as she stepped out of her bedroom, so did Billy, drying off his hair while just wearing track pants with water droplets sliding down his tanned chest. Billy notices her looking at him, her cheeks flushing and he smirks before leaning down to kiss the top of her head.

"I'll make breakfast. What would you like?"

"I'm not that hungry... it's too early to eat..." Billy sighs, hoping that (y/n)'s habit of eating only after 12 would break but guess that was still apparent.

"You're eating toast at least. I'm not taking no as an answer." (y/n) huffs as she sits down at the kitchen counter table, Billy making himself and her some breakfast. His mind wondered about all the questions he had but he thought it would be better for (y/n) to explain everything first before he swamped her with information. "(y/n), you said you can't remember anything last night."

"Yeah... it's all just fuzzy."

"How do you remember me?" he sets the plates down before sitting down next to her but (y/n) dashes off up the stairs. "(y/n)?" she comes back down with her bag, pulling out files and papers and photographs on the table.

"I felt like I knew you. I was searching for you when I escaped."

"Escaped?" Billy frowns. "(y/n), what happened to you?"

"I... I don't know... the furthest I can remember is waking up in some sort of glass room. There were creatures-I think people in white hazmat suits-that were doing experiments on me... They called me Experiment X... I woke up and I panicked. I didn't know where I was, or who they were, all I knew was that I needed to escape. I grabbed these." (y/n) points to the files. "I didn't even remember my name but when I saw your picture, I knew that you might be able to help me remember..." Billy takes the photo of himself, looking at (y/n) who looked at it fondly. "My heart felt like I knew you. So I ran. I got out of the facility and I ran... For a day or more maybe. It was all just desert and an empty road." Billy furrows his brows with worry.

"(y/n)-"

"-I managed to hitchhike with a kind lady. She dropped me off at a coach stop and I took one to California. I asked everyone around where you might be and I found you." (y/n) breathes out, looking at Billy. "I found home..." Billy hugs (y/n), dread filling his senses for everything his love went through.

"I'm not going to let anything like that happen to you again. I promise you (y/n)." she nods, holding Billy as she breathes him in, taking in the familiar scent of his cologne and cigarettes and she was finally at ease for the first time in a long while.

"Billy, please explain to me about the Upside Down. I tried to understand it while I read the file. All I know is my name so far but... what happened before I woke up?" Billy pales as (y/n) leans back to look at him and he didn't want to tell her and she knew. "Please, please tell me what happened. Don't keep anything from me." he sighs but nods.

"You... you died before you woke up in the facility."

~~~~~~~~
Billy gnawed on his lips as he stood in the kitchen, watching over (y/n) who silently sat cross-legged on the floor with all the papers and photos around her like she was trying to solve a major murder crime scene. She didn't make a move, looking over at the files and the photos of people she became close with in Hawkins.
"Jesus fucking christ..." she whispers out, scratching her head and Billy lets out a breath of relief that she was ok. "So... I become friends with this group of people that fight demons from the Upside Down annually like some goddamn gala event?" Billy deadpans at (y/n)'s summary. "Fucking hell, they need to stop summoning these things from their DND board game like the Jumanji book." Billy bursts out laughing, relieved that (y/n) still had her blunt humour. God, he missed that.
"That is the best reference I've heard yet." Billy smiles at (y/n) as she looks at him.
"Billy, what about before I came to Hawkins?" and that's when he froze.
"We didn't speak much about our past but I can tell you what you told me." He recites everything he remembers (y/n) telling him, about her needing to leave and disappearing from her family before moving to Hawkins. Being close with her deceased brother and her mother but hates her father.
"We both had father figure issues huh."
"That's the same thing I said on our date." Billy smiles and (y/n) grins at him, hearing him explain their first date and how it went. She blushes bright red when he explains how they first met and their interactions. From her giving him an ice pack and beer, to him climbing into her room for her to clean up his wounds, to him teaching her everything relating to sexual intimacy, to him falling in love with her and them dating.
"Did I... did I ever tell you..." (y/n) froze but Billy knew what she meant, smiling sadly.
"You told me you loved me before you died." he stands up, going to his bedroom to grab the photo frame and (y/n)'s boxes of photos. "This was the night I told you I was-am in love with you. I confessed to you first." he passes her the photo and she looks at it fondly, brushing her finger against the glass. "And these are yours." I took all of your belongings from your old house and kept them in your room. I couldn't throw them away."
"I don't own a lot of things..." (y/n) mumbles out, opening the boxes to see them filled with photos and random objects of memorabilia.
"It was everything you brought with you when you left home. I'm guessing these are your friends and family from back home." Billy sits next to (y/n) as she looks through all the photos. Some were a photo of her with 6 other girls, others of her with her mother and her brother. She felt a deep sadness wash over her, a deep kind of sadness that she left the people she loved behind twice. Left her family and friends back in Australia and disappearing from them, and dying with her new family and friends in Hawkins.
"I caused them so much pain..."
"We all had a bit of darkness we were trying to escape from." Billy held (y/n)'s left wrist, pulling down her sleeve and she frowns at the fading lines that were scarred into her skin. "You were in pain..." he whispers as he pulls her into his lap, her back against his chest. "I don't want you to be in pain anymore..." Billy kisses (y/n)'s shoulder, kissing her wrist and she tears up.
"I don't want to hurt anymore Billy... I just want to move on with you."
